HEIGHT
      Short and delicate.

WEIGHT
Perhaps a strong wind could knock her over.

HAIR COLOR
As dark as the night she lives in.

EYE COLOR
      A brilliant sea of blue.

SKIN TONE
      Light and clear, like vanilla.

GENERAL APPEARANCE
Oh, Yue, so many things and yet not enough words to describe her. She is both small and frail, weak and pitiful, yet her eyes can smolder with enough hate to reduce the world to ashes. Her dark hair is usually worn long and and in ringlets, and she enjoys sweaters and hoodies and often wears the color blue. Yue had always been a weak weedy sort, easy to step on and forget, and her habit of silently taking it doesn't help. A pathetic little girl, most people would see her then forget as their minds go to the next thing in their lives that they have to waste time thinking about. An unremarkable sad girl, only spectacular for the hate she hides in her heart.

PERSONALITY
A neglected child? An abused child? A betrayed child? Yue was all three put together in one sad tiny little package, incapable of anything but welling in her own powerlessness. You can step on her and she'll silently accept the punishment. You can break her fingers and she'll shut her eyes and pretend it didn't happen. You can leave her locked in a room for days and she won't make a peep. Learning long ago that trying to fight only makes it worse, Yue knows very much that it's best to be silent, to be seen and not heard and sometimes not even seen. Just give it all up and pretend nothing's wrong. Let go of all the pain.

Except of course it isn't that easy, is it? The pain, the anger, the shame, the hatred, it all seethes and boils, waiting inside her heart for a single opportunity to turn everything upside down. A child smarter than she looks in some ways, and stupider in other ways, she can be dangerous if her feelings are allowed to come to a boil. While on the outside she's calm and silent, you can see her room full of torn up papers, scratched up walls, destroyed stuffed animals lining the floors.

Yue also has a bad habit of clinging to that one nice person who won't hurt her. But it's very hard to find that one person to rely entirely on. Perhaps if there was someone, maybe she could be turned from darkness to light.

LIKES
Destruction | Nothing feels quite as good as breaking things.

Solitude | Alone is safety, alone can't hurt you.

Misery | Seeing other people suffering helps her feel better.

Dreams | You can even be a good little princess rescued by a handsome prince in dreams.

DISLIKES
Yue Fan Xiang | A child who deserves nothing but what she gets.

Humans | They do nothing but hurt and hate and Yue is the same.

Noise | Too much noise hurts her head and makes her withdraw.

TALENTS
Breaking | If it exists, Yue can break it.

Bottling | Yue can keep it in longer than she should.

Singing | Though she hates her voice and doesn't hear the beauty.

FLAWS
Violent | She's learned it as a language.
Unforgiving | Hurt her and she won't forget.
Garbage | How she sees herself.

Passive | Prefers wishing for the world to end then actually doing anything about it.

FEARS
Humans | The root of all evil.

      Herself | She's a human after all.

Fire | The burns on her body are self explanatory.

Friends | Those closest to your heart hurt you the most.

"Walk off the cliff into destiny's death grip."

FAMILY
      Keeper | Gillian Eldriss | 41
      Keeper | Miranda Eldriss | 16
      Keeper | Tyler Eldriss | 19
      Soulmate | Orie Larson | 16

BIO
In the beginning Yue never really knew her parents. Her first memory of them was them begging for Yue to be spared when the local mafia came and stole her away. "Once you pay off your debt, we'll give her back." They claimed. Yue can faintly remember an auction, being dressed up all pretty when finally a man named Gillian Eldriss bought her, a higher up in the city's underworld, a local crime boss with much influence. Yue was put under his care as a new member of the Eldriss family. She was trained in the arts of violence, of control, of fear, of crime. But most of all she was taught to obey, to be pliant, to listen to what anyone said. Because she was a slave, she was made on the bottom of the totem pol and wasn't allowed any reprieve.

Yue always was a dreamy child. She liked to imagine fantastic landscapes and possibilities in her mind. A fellow slave, bought a few years ago, Orie Eldriss nee Larson, was the same and the two easily bonded as they were trained in weaponry and mafia affairs. She was a pretty thing, blonde with a bit of a bust, she was beautiful, like a pale flower in darkness. Sadly they were both on the bottom rung and neither of them were particularly good at hurting others. Every time they messed up, or sometimes even if it wasn't their fault, Gillian or his blood children, Miranda and Tyler, would take it out on Orie and Yue. Orie would always fight back, to yell at Yue to not just sit there and take it when they broke her fingers, stepped on her toes, tickled her for hours straight. But Yue saw how they treated Orie, how it kept escalating the more the screamed, so Yue knew to remain silent. Still, when things went well they were best friends, they were each other's only light in this dark unforgiving world.

At the young age of twelve there was a heist to take out a drug dealer who refused to pay his taxes. Yue was invited on this mission alongside Orie, Tyler, and Miranda. "Dad says if one of you does well, we'll promote you and you'll be blood children too." Miranda informed them. "Only the better one can be set free." Orie and Yue made a pact that day, they promised to both screw up so that one wouldn't have to leave the other. In the end it once the drug dealer was captured and it was time to deliver punishment, Yue decided to free him and let him escape to prove her loyalty to her fellow slave. That was when Orie grabbed her arm, shot the drug dealer to death, and dragged her in front of Gillian, the Keeper, informing him of her betrayal. Orie was thus promoted, and Yue was punished twice as hard for her betrayal.

After that day the girl wouldn't say a word. She silently accepted everything they did to her, and Orie no longer could look her in the eyes either. Even when Orie began punishing her by cutting her tummy she wouldn't look her in the eyes. Everything bottling up, Yue began destroying her room, breaking and clawing at everything to get rid of her will to fight, to bury it down so she won't make the mistake of attacking her family. Because the pain would get worse if she tried to fight.

But one day she had had enough, though. She didn't know how it happened, all she knew was that she shot and killed Gillian Eldriss, the bullet going right through his head. In return the rest of the family punished her extra hard, even after Miranda took her father's position as head of the Eldriss Branch. They punished her and then Orie made the decision. "Let's kill her and dump her in the river." Orie declared. So that was what they did, and Orie was the one who dealt the final blow. Except, of course, she didn't. "Swim to safety, you're free." Orie whispered as she threw the fake dead Yue into the river.

Yue of course didn't know how to swim and knocked her head on the rocks as she tried to stay afloat, drifting off to wherever destiny may take her.

Revenge for what the humans did? "We aren't humans, we're mages." Yue said softly, somehow having an odd sense of kinship with this strange demon who had infested her teacher. Not enough to truly sympathize, but enough to feel a sense of solemnity in her heart. If there was anyone who understood the desire for revenge, it was the moon child. "But I was hurt by humans too. Revenge... sounds like it would be well deserved." No one here knew the cruelty of humans better than Yue did, except perhaps the demon inside of Zinnia. Eventually a name was extracted, it revealed itself to be called Acacia. "That's a nice name. My name is Yue." Was it a mistake to tell a demon her real name? Possibly. But Yue was a fool and it was too late to take it back now.

But despite her attempt to bond with the demon to find common ground, in the end it didn't matter as Acacia prepared an attack with its inky blackness. Yue jumped back, falling onto her back, but was coordinated enough to roll backwards onto her feet. As someone trained since childhood in combat, something like this was easy for her. "That was risky, but you got her name. Now Blithe's seal can go through." Rain told her with a pleased grin. "Balls to the wall, but we did it good." Yue had to agree - she was willing to take a risk if it meant helping the Teacher who had done so much to help her so far. At first Yue thought Teacher and Blithe were simply new Masters to torture and torment her but now the lost mafia girl trusted that they truly meant well.

Yue loved being able to pay back, whether in revenge or affection, she would not leave anything unpaid. "Let's get out of here." Rain pulled Yue out of the way of the seal, and Acacia began to thrash and seize but it was too late, the strengthened barrier had been completed. "You did well." Ulrich said to her with a wink. "I might like to see more of what you can do, little one." Yue blinked, unsure what to do or say. How could a newbie like her ever live up to the expectations of a seasoned Elder? Blithe began asking Acacia questions and it became clear that Acacia had no intention of leaving Zinnia.

"Is Zinnia a pure blood?" Rain asked suddenly. Yue was confused and tilted her head, not really knowing what pure blooded meant other than in some books written about witches and wizards at a school. "Pure Blood means a direct descendant from the Original Mage." Freya explained. "They have the strongest potential for magic, and demons are most attracted to them." Yue shivered, hoping that she wasn't one. "Don't worry, if you turned out to be Pure Blooded I already claimed you, most demons wouldn't dare trying to lay claim to a Teranos's property!" Yue wasn't sure if that was reassuring or not.

"Rain, can you use Occlumency to ask Acacia a question?" Rain nodded, happy to oblige, leathery wings flapping. "Hey, you. If we offered to take revenge on the humans too, would you eventually release Zinnia from your possession?" Rain grinned, looking directly at her fellow demon. "I'm one of the Teranos siblings, so you know I'm good on my word, Acacia."

Blithe turned towards Rain, who had made an inquiry as to whether or not Zinnia was a pure blood. "Through and through," Blithe replied with a nod. "This was something Zinnia has been afflicted with since childhood," every full moon the monster would come out and when the sun rose, it would tuck away once more, releasing Blithe's Master from her possession. They were close now, a couple of hours until the sun would poke its head above the horizon and shine down on their faces. "I could sense it as soon as the blood was drawn for our contract." Blithe licked her lips at the memory, the enticing amount of mana and her pride, bellowing her to defeat the mage, despite the fact that she was just a babe. It was that day that had made Zinnia's parents realize she was too powerful to remain in their village.

Acacia's head perked up, Rainarch, that blasted demon, was speaking in its head. "No," Acacia replied stubbornly, Freya and Rainier paying the creature no mind. "We will take this body as our own and see our revenge through ourselves." It hissed, knowing that time was running out. The sun had begun to rise, a new day, a new dawn. Acacia screamed as the night faded, its grip on Zinnia slipping. Freya jumped forward, waiting for the keyhole on Acacia's forehead to disappear completely before releasing the seal. Zinnia had returned once more, her pallor pale. "I'll brew some tea," Rainier offered, leaving the room as Freya cast a spell to return the room to proper order. "Inform the others they may return and get some rest." Rainier nodded, taking his leave to go see to it that Yue was faring well.

Zinnnia blinked, coming to. The sun had barely risen, she had no memory of the evening's events. "I've failed again, haven't I?" Zinnia inquired as Freya lifted her, placing her on the bed. Zinnia draped an arm over her eyes in shame. They had returned to their normal color, the oil slick that had covered them before having long disappeared. "Yes," Freya replied. "It is of no consequence, Zinnia, we'll exorcise the beast eventually." Zinnia nodded, feeling weak after the ordeal. It was normal of course, having one's body possessed by a monster was energy draining. The only reason that Blithe didn't feel the effects was due to the full moon. "It was a mistake to bring Yue into my home, I was reckless, I endangered her life."

Rainier entered, a tray floating in front of him, a teapot pouring what smelled like chamomile and elder flower into a ceramic cup. "Sugar?" He asked and Zinnia nodded, a spoon moving of its own accord to pick up a scoop of sugar and dump it into the cup, mixing and tapping the excess off of the side. Freya assisted her into an upright position and Zinnia clutched the cup with both hands, the warmth bleeding into her skin. "Yue fared well on her own," Rainier replied, the tray floating onto the desk. "In fact, I think you would be rather proud of all she has accomplished."

Despite the combined attempt by Yue and Rain to at least make peace with Acacia, the demon had no interest in them. "But all these years and you still haven't escaped. You need help, because you still haven't broken free yet." That was the last thing Rain would tell Acacia before the full moon ended and the morning sun began to rise. Zinnia returned to them, to everyone's relief this month's Harrowing came to an end. Yue waited patiently until Blithe and Zinnia finished their moment before the moon child gave her teacher a hug at Blithe's cue. It was a hug of relief and of concern. Hopefully Yue could become a strong enough mage to be able to get Acacia out of Zinnia one day.

"That was scary." Yue decided to speak, not wanting to leave Zinnia in the dark about her new ability to speak. It wasn't of her own power, and it wasn't because she in particular worked hard to regain it. Truly this was just her borrowing Rainarch's dark magic to speak again. Whatever stole her voice was still in effect otherwise. "But you're back now. I'm okay, and now you are too." There was a tickling in the back of her mind. "You're still weak, Master. You can't save your Teacher yet." Her bat wings wiggled as once again the offer was made. "All you have to do is learn from me, then you can be strong. A magic no one else can use." Yue was no idiot, she knew what this offer was. And however tempting it was to learn Dark Magic, she didn't want to be cast out of Constantina and be labeled as evil, ruining her only chance of having a home.

Ulrich coughed to clear his throat. "Yue has shown she has great potential, Zinnia." The pale and sickly looking Elder spoke, taking a seat on a tree log outside the main house. "I hope you teach her our language well and have her ready to enroll at the University by the end of Summer Vacation." Yue looked hopefully at Zinnia - was it possible she too could quickly learn how to be strong? There was so much she wanted to do with her newfound power, so much she could accomplish with just a flick of a wand and a few words spoken. Her wand itself was brimming with power, a nervous energy and a desire for strength could be sensed coming from it's core.

Rain shut her eyes, her wings becoming smaller, eyes returning to normal, fangs shortening, claws becoming human and proper again. "Aww, my power boost is gone." The bat demon complained, stamping her feet on the ground. Freya was looking at her curiously but for whatever reason, no one was able to discern. "Did I do okay, Rain?" Yue asked, wanting validation from her familiar. Rain snickered, tail wagging. "You need to be fine tuned, you're like a strong ore that wasn't worked on yet. A diamond in the rough." But there was definite possibility just waiting to be mined out, wasn't there?

To the rising sun, Yue realized that the idea of revenge might not just be a silly childish dream anymore. Maybe she could finally burn that place under the flood of her raging waters.

Zinnia felt sleepy, even as she sipped at her tea. Her priority of course was to make certain that Yue was alright before she could rest and so, Zinnia grabbed her wand from the bedside table when Freya had her back turned, speaking to Drake and Rainier. "I'll be back," Zinnia mumbled, casting the spell to make her float. She drifted from the bed and through the doorway, the damage already swept up by the Elders. Ulrich was still outside, speaking to Yue when Zinnia approached. Blithe ran forward, her tails swishing in concern. "Zinnia! You shouldn't be out of bed!" Zinnia gave a weak smile, waving. "I'm alright, no need to make a fuss." She had to check on Yue, her house guest was her priority. "I swear, sometimes you're too polite for your own good." Ulrich crossed his arms, joining the others within Zinnia's home to give them some semblance of privacy.

"Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Zinnia inquired, taking in her state. There was a bandage wrapped lackadaisically around one arm, "Did I do this?" Zinnia asked in concern, taking the arm gently in her own. Her hands shook as she unwrapped the bandage, the wound was a clean cut. "Let me fix it," Zinnia insisted. "No," Blithe grasped Zinnia's hand, "I'll fix it. I'm the one that asked her to do it," she smiled, gently nudging her Master away. Fire lit across her finger, Blithe ran it down the length of the cut. "This might tickle," she warned, then glared at Rainarch, who should have shown enough concern to heal her master.

Zinnia's head jerked up when Yue spoke, surprise written clearly across her expression. "How?" The young witch blinked and floated in a circle around her student. Her expression darkened, "This is Rainarch's doing, isn't it?" Blithe had just finished wrapping the wound, clearly she didn't want to get involved considering her silence. "Yes, I'm fine, this only happens during the full moon. Once the sunrises, so does the possession. I'm sorry Yue, I should have explained this better." Zinnia flipped a strand of orange hair over her shoulder. "I suppose borrowing a bit of Rainarch's power to speak won't harm you much for the time being."

Ulrich coughed, clearing his throat in the doorway. Zinnia nodded in understanding, "So you intend to be her sponsor?" A sponsor was someone who backed an entry into the university, testifying for them, essentially. When Zinnia first entered, she had none. There was no one to recommend her, in fact, she had simply marched into the Dean's office and demanded entry into the school. Zinnia was beginning to feel faint once more, her energy stores were gone. Blithe caught her with one of her tails, her Master as limp as a rag doll. "I'm... alright," she whispered, fighting sleep.

The door was shut, no light brimmed through except that from the small hanging light bulb from the ceiling, a dim glow to make the room of sorrow even more ominous. Yue stood there, eyes shut, as was her duty. A girl was seated in a chair, ankles fastened by leather belts to the legs, arms tied behind the chair with coarse painful looking rope. Gillian Eldriss, head of the Eldriss Family, smiled solemnly at the girl. Yue knew who she was. She was the daughter of a police chief who had been on their case, trying to link together evidence and crimes to put an end to organized violence in Castene City. The door was shut, but Yue was still in the room. Orie gave her a side glance, looking nervous as well, blonde locks trailing down her beautiful face.

"My dad won't bow down to your threats." The girl hissed, not even fighting against the bonds, she knew it was hopeless to try and resist. She must be around fifteen years old, only a few years older than Yue herself. How unfortunate to have parents thrust such a horrible fate unto her. ""Y-you might as well just kill me." But as brave as she might try to be, the fear was obvious in her voice. She was just a child, but Yue knew she was an enemy. "No hard feelings, Alisha." Gillian looked intimidating in his dark suit and tie. He was never one to get his own hands dirty, after all. "But this isn't a threat. Sometimes, drastic action must be done. Your father, he didn't show my family the respect we deserve. He even almost put my youngest daughter in danger." Yue had almost sprung a trap laid by the Chief a few days ago, which was what spawned the kidnapping of Alisha Grice.

Gillian gestured to the metal object held in Yue's own hands. "And now your father must pay with his own daughter, the price of endangering mine." It was clear - the girl was slated to die. Orie lifted her gun with gritted teeth. "Father, I can do it." She implored, though unlike Gillian's blood children, neither Orie nor Yue had ever taken a life before. "No." Yue didn't want to have to be protected by her soulmate. She wouldn't force Orie to kill just for her sake. "I can do it." Her heart thumped, and Alisha's did in sync as the gun was raised. At this range, Yue wouldn't miss. She was trained not to miss either way. Without allowing for that brief moment of hesitation, Yue fired the gun, ending the police chief's daughter's life.

It had been a week later. Yue shivered, waking up, she didn't want to remember, she didn't want to think back to her old life, her old crimes. "Rain, I thought you were keeping my nightmares in check." Wasn't that one of her familiar's duties? "I'm..." A loud sneeze erupted from the bat. "I'm sick, okay? It's Venal's Disease, for demons who aren't used to this layer yet!" Rain sniffled, whimpering as another wave of chills went down her spine. "Hurry and make the Infusio Potion already!" The thing with Venal's Disease was that only the contractor of the demon afflicted could make the potion to cure it. If any other mage tried, it would only make it worse.

"I just finished learning how to read." Yue murmured, feeling bad now. She sighed - at least today she would finally start learning proper magic. And the first step was what was supposed to be the easiest - learning how to brew potions. Yue sauntered down the stairs, helping poor Rain make it down as well for breakfast where Blithe and Zinnia hopefully were. "Um... Teacher... can you help me make the Infusio Potion today?" She had finally last night passed the minimum runic language test Ulrich had given her, meaning she was now qualified to try all sorts of magic.

But first things first, Rain needed to be taken care of!

Blithe had laid Zinnia back in bed, Yue and Rain were still speaking with Ulrich, Freya tucking Zinnia in with all the love of a Mother. Freya had never had her own children, she had miscarried twice and her husband had killed himself with grief. Zinnia was the closest she had ever gotten to having a daughter of her own. "While possessed, Acacia told me something," Blithe admitted, her tails swishing uncertainly. "The heart is a muscle, what's that supposed to mean?" Freya's eyes widened, it seemed the meaning to her, at least, was loud and clear. "I apologize Blithe, I must take my leave. I'll send Madame Pomfrey over to check up on your Master and Yue." Blithe nodded, watching her leave, she kept the message to herself, knowing that this perhaps, might be a puzzle meant only for herself.

Once having clearance from Madame Pomfrey to leave bed, Zinnia began to tutor Yue in their runic language. She herself, was taking finals at school and surpassed the expectations of her teachers. Freya did not call upon her during the week, knowing that her apprentice was busy enough between learning and teaching. By the end of the day, Zinnia was exhausted and fell asleep easily, which was not an easy accomplishment. Her nighttime was usually accompanied by strange visions Madame Pomfrey had always written off as nightmares, but Zinnia wasn't as sure. They made no sense to her, containing large hunks of metal that spun on four wheels, nothing like their carriages. There were devices that made odd noises that came from the pockets of people and tubes of what appeared to be metal that shot back and forth faster than any horse.

They made Zinnia feel sick.

Last night had been another successful sleep, Zinnia awoke feeling refreshed and floated herself into the bathroom to rinse her skin. She dried her hair with a quick wind spell and called for Blithe to brush out her long locks, her familiar popping into the room in a puff of smoke. "Morning Zin Zin," Blithe teased, taking the hairbrush and standing behind her Master, brushing Zinnia's hair for her. When the muscle weakness had first set in, Zinnia had stubbornly refused to allow anyone to help her, but the more Blithe had insisted, the faster Zinnia had relented. This had become their routine, a normal of sorts. "Last day of school," Blithe almost sang. "I'm excited, it means I can finally stop babysitting those two." She was referring to their house guests, Yue and Rainarch of course.

"A fine job you're doing, letting them run amok in the garden yesterday. The nymphs were not enjoying it, you should have heard the earful I received when I returned home." Blithe laughed, patting Zinnia on the head, "you're done." Zinnia dressed in her uniform and headed down the stairs, waving her wand to cast breakfast spells. She had just settled at the table when Yue came running down the stairs, requesting to be taught a new potion. Zinnia glanced at the clock, there was plenty of time to make it. "Alright, I'll teach you," she pushed away from the table, floating towards her study. "But only you can prepare this potion."

"Two prongs of warts bush, a dash of licorice seed, two sprigs of fennel, and a handful of bush weed." Those were just the ingredients of course, next came the mixing, fifteen times counter clockwise, thrice clockwise, and once back and forth. Then it had to bubble and foam, it would turn a deep green once it was ready.

Teacher was willing to teach them! Yue smiled at Rain, who shot her a devious thumbs up before sneezing yet again, wiping it onto her hand and then onto the table. "Did you have to deal with Vernal too, Blithe?" Rain asked, mildly upset that something as simple as an acclimatization disease would have been enough to bring someone mighty like her down. "It's such a drag, seriously!" Yue quickly scribbled down the instructions given by her Teacher onto a page of parchment. "Is it good?" She still wasn't confident in her writing ability but she hoped it was decent enough. "I think it's fine, now let's get the ingredients!" Rain beckoned, coughing and wheezing in the chair. Yue stood up, stretching her legs, then went to the ingredients cabinet.

Here, everything was labeled and categorized neatly. A section for herbs and plants, a section for rocks and minerals, a section for animal products - though this category was empty here, Yue knew that some potions or other magic can use animal products. Apparently though the nymphs don't like that so Zinnia used herbal substitutes instead, which was more effort, but kinder to nature. The last category was magical essences, which was usually only used for advanced potions or other rituals. Yue did her best to gather what was needed from the list but in the end she came short. "There's not enough, Rain." Yue announced sadly, not sure what to do now. The gathered materials were left in on the side in a "to be put into cauldron" pile, but she still needed one more sprig of fennel and two more bush weed strands.

"You know what that means, right?" Rain began and Yue knew just how to finish that sentence. "We're going to go gathering!" However, neither Yue nor Rain had any idea how to gather for materials in the wild. Whenever Rainarch wanted something she was used to fighting or killing for it, while Yue was good at stealing and sneaking around to get her prizes. Before their permission could be denied the two trouble makers left the house into the lush morning outside, an adventure just waiting to begin. "If we're fast enough Blythe won't get to stop our fun." Rain stuck her tongue out before she sneezed again. "Are you okay to gather?" Yue asked worriedly. "Don't push yourself." The bat demon shook her head as if offended. "I do what I want, stupid disease or not, the great Rainarch won't be stopped!"

So they trampled through the wild, dashed around the edge of the forest, trying to find what they would need. It didn't take too much work to find enough bush weed to finish the handful, but the last fennel sprig was proving to be more of a challenge. Rain sneezed again, wiping the goo off of her hand onto a nearby tree. Suddenly everything began to shift and the tree somehow began rustling, moving. It... stood up to a massive height, eyes opening in the bark. "What kind of disrespect is this?" The tree spoke somehow. Nymphs sidled up around them, surrounding them in a circle so they couldn't get out. Yue shivered, feeling afraid again. "You would disrespect the Elder Tree?"

Rain sneezed yet again, flicking the goo onto the forest floor, stomping it into the soil. "We're in danger! Yue, say the word and I'll show you what I'm good for!" The bat demon grabbed Yue and held her protectively, leather wings enlarging, hissing like a cornered wildcat. Yue whimpered, she didn't want to be in danger. But was it really okay to trust her sick friend to get them out of this mess? "Rain, save us!"

Zinnia watched them run out the door, chewing on a piece of toast. "Is it really okay to let them out there?" Blithe inquired, spreading jam onto a piece of bread. "Let them adventure, there's only so long that Yue has to become a bit more accustomed to our neighbors." Blithe cocked her head, ears standing upright. "You don't think she'll elect to move into the dorms come fall, will she?" Zinnia had considered it of course, "If she wants to, then it's her decision to make. Besides, with Ulrich as her sponsor she'll be receiving plenty of attention, both desirable and not so much." Blithe nodded, "Too mature for your own good, aren't you? If you want her to stay, just ask her." Zinnia's cheeks turned pink, the cuckoo clock on the wall suddenly announcing the hour.

"I'm afraid I must take my leave if I want to be prepared for the closing ceremony." Zinnia had been chosen to make the closing remarks at their school, a year end festival would be thrown today, Blithe had planned to bring Yue and Rain later on so that they could formally introduce themselves to the staff. Familiars were not allowed in school, thanks to their tricksy nature, they had to remain home. "Your bag Zinny!" Blithe called, attaching it to the back of the wheelchair. She waved as the chair began to roll down the garden path. Zinnia waved, the green house door swinging shut behind her. Blithe sighed and shook her head, "She'll never admit what her heart most longs for, will she?"

"Excuse me, Elder Tree?" Zinnia inquired rather loudly. She had been on her way to school when she had come across the near-brawl. The circle of nymphs turned, a range of expressions on their face as she rose to her feet. Of course, Zinnia had no choice but to walk considering her chair could not maneuver across the grass. Her knees nearly buckled underneath her weight, she was doing this unassisted, with no strength potion coursing through her veins. "Ah, Zinnia, shouldn't you be on your way to class?" The Elder Tree asked, shifting its branches towards her. "Yes, but, I must apologize, these are my house guests, Yue and Rainarch, they mean you no harm. I'm certain this must have been some sort of misunderstanding."

"Well, your guest wiped her disgusting fluids on me!" The tree humphed, crossing two branches in a very upset motion. "Rainarch knows no better, this is her first time outside of her Realm. You must excuse her, as she knows not the customs of our land." The nymphs glared the bat down, the Elder Tree seemed to be rather deep in thought. "I'll allow it, this once. Next time I catch you defiling our land, it'll be your head!" He threatened, leaves falling as his branches shook. "Your benevolence continues to astound me. Come you two, let's return home." Zinnia's knees shook as she stepped, threatening to buckle once more.

A vine wrapped around her arms, holding Zinnia an inch above the ground and setting her gently back down in her chair. Zinnia tipped her head, acknowledging their actions without outright thanking them. "I do hope to see you all at the festival," a formality really, they wouldn't leave the forest. "And you two," Zinnia sighed, shaking her head. "There's plenty of fennel in the garden."

Even in her weakened state, Rain was still a powerful demon and she wasn't going to let anyone hurt her Master without a fight, that's for sure. The Elder Tree was still a tree. While Yue didn't know much of magic other than the one water spell and also the soul stealing dark magic spell, Rain sure was able to use fire if she pleased. "Fire is strong against-" Rain shook her head. "No, nymphs can use water to damper the fire if I try that. I'll have to use my dark supernova!" Rain put her hands together, ready to strike when a voice suddenly broke apart the fight. Teacher was here, she had come to save them! "Teacher!" Yue's voice was breathless, full of relief and humiliation all the same. Rain snorted, folding her hands no her jutted hip. "Hmpf, I knew she would save us! No big deal!"

Of course an expert like Zinnia was able to stop the fight between them and the Elder Tree. With that the situation seemed solved. "Wouldn't have done it if this disgusting stuff wouldn't stop leaking outta my nose." Rain complained sullenly while Yue stared at the wheelchaired Zinnia with stars in her eyes, something between adoration and idolization. Apparently fennel was available in the garden to be picked and used for potions. Yue laughed uneasily, poking her cheek with a finger. "Um, the truth was, neither of us remembered what fennel looked like? So we just went exploring and hoped we would recognize one when we found it?" Rain huffed, trying to pretend this didn't bother her. "Who names a vegetable fennel anyways? Whoever did should be burnt alive!" In any case, the troublemakers were brought safely back home, with all the ingredients they would need to make the Infusio potion. "Thank you, Teacher. We'll be waiting for you at home."

At the cauldron, Yue carefully put all the ingredients in, in the order as spoken by Teacher. Fifteen times counter clockwise, three more times clockwise, then once back and forth. Finally she let it bubble and boil and slowly the potion began to turn greener and greener until finally it seemed it was ready. "Ugh, this smells like the worst thing ever." Rain plugged her nose in distaste. "Why can't I just eat a human soul instead?" The bat cried, wailing. Which meant opening her mouth. Which was the perfect time to pour the vial of green fluid down poor Rain's throat. Her familiar coughed and sputtered, wings twitching fervently. "B-Betrayal! How could you!"

After a few minutes Rain curled up and passed out at Yue's feet, so Yue shuffled the both of them over to the reading place where there were many books. She might as well practice her reading now in order to keep sharp so she'd be ready for university. "Sorry for always being trouble, Blithe." Yue said with a frown. "Um, you probably want us to grow up and get our own place already so you and Zinnia can have your quiet peace again, right?" The moon child could see how she and Rain were a hassle with how little they knew about the world. Still, she hoped the fox demon didn't hate her despite that.

Zinnia sighed, "Yue, I've told you, just call me by name." Referring to her as teacher seemed an insult, it meant that their relationship was simply business. Unless of course, that's all Yue believed this to be. "Fennel looks like this," she pulled out her wand, now safely in her chair once more and conjured up an image of fennel. "The herbs in the garden are all marked, come summer, we'll have fruits and vegetables too." Zinnia's smile was gentle, "Try not to stir up the neighbors too much. Alright?" Zinnia inquired, turning her chair and heading down the path to school once more.

There was someone waiting for her at the busy carriage intersection. Yuu stood there, hands tucked into his cloak pockets. "Zinnia," he nodded, black hair almost seeming blue in the light. "Good morning Yuu," Zinnia clipped, turning her chair to face the street. "The outsider is causing a disturbance."

"What would you know about it?"

"A little mouse told me."

"Keep your pesky messengers out of my attic." Zinnia replied, her tone polite despite her warning. "My, my, aren't we loud today?" He leaned over, resting his hand on her armrest. "Loud, nosy, strange, those all spell trouble to me. I think you should get rid of her, send her out of Constantina." Yuu's tone wasn't threatening, in fact, if Zinnia didn't know him better, she would have thought him to be concerned. "Stay out of my home, Yuu. Or else,"

"You'll send Freya after me? I'm so scared." He taunted, his lips pressed into a thin, wavering line. "Blasfio!" A spark ignited from the tip of her wand, which had crept into her hand, lighting Yuu's sleeve on fire. He stepped back, waving it frantically in the air. "Stay away from me Yuu, stay away from Yue, or else!" Traffic stopped to watch and Zinnia escaped in the space between the carriages, reaching school without incident. Well, relatively. Dean Eincrad waited for her on the bridge into the school. "Zinnia, there you are. I was worried you wouldn't come," Zinnia shook her head, tossing her vibrant hair over her shoulder. "I was asked to speak, was I not?" The Dean laughed, the two of them strolling in through the splendid entryway.

"Yes, I did ask you to. I wanted to speak to you about your grades," they entered his office, there were several other teachers waiting, including Elias Castle, and Autumn. The secretary entered with a large tray of tea, a plate of biscuits floating in behind her. "My thanks, now that we're all here, let's talk about your final grades."

"I've disappointed you all, haven't I?" Zinnia asked, shifting in her seat. "On the contrary, you've surpassed our expectations." Dean Eincrad began, biting down on a biscuit. "We would like for you to be the Head Girl in the upcoming fall." Zinnia froze in her seat, Head Girl was the highest honor one could elect a witch in University. It meant that they had gone above and beyond expectations. "But... why? I haven't been diligent in my studies. I miss class, I don't understand why you would honor me with this?" Her expression suddenly darkened. "It's the chair, isn't it? You pity me because of it, don't you?"

"Actually, it's your academic achievements. The youngest mage to summon a familiar, you've perfected several potions, have come up with spells that are now being used outside the halls of the school. You've done it in spite of your situation and that is why, we wish to honor you." Autumn stepped forward, holding a small box. Zinnia tapped the lid with her wand, the box opening, a sprinkling of glitter dust surrounding her. She couldn't help but giggle, peeking inside the neat wrapping to gaze at the shiny badge and ribbon.

"Well, will you accept?" Elias asked impatiently with a grin. Zinnia nodded, "Yes!"

Blithe shook her head, the fire in the hearth was flickering around the cauldron. "I never suffered from it," she admitted, scratching her cheek. The affliction hadn't hit Blithe, but she had gotten sick from other things, among them, eating too much chicken in one sitting. "You're no trouble, between you and me, Zinnia likes having you here. She has a hard time making friends and saying what she actually thinks, but this is the most life that's been here since the mice moved in."

"My Master is... complicated among things, but she means well. It's good for her to have a girl her age here."

Zinnia was always so nice, so patient, no matter how rowdy Yue or Rain ever got to be. Perhaps Yue was even being something he never really got to be before - a carefree child. Ever since she first began forming memories she was put into training, so now that she was here in a safe environment, with Rain there to egg her on and goad her into escalating their silly antics, it was no wonder Yue was now acting just like a little girl would when given free roam to run amok. "We're sorry." Yue shot Zinnia an apologetic smile. She faltered a little at Teacher wanting to not be called Teacher. "S-sorry! Zinnia, it's um, well..." Calling her teacher was a form of respect, like calling your commander Commander. "Have fun at school, we'll be waiting for you at home." Rain sneezed and waved too.

Around the smoldering fire by the cauldron where it was warm and nice, Yue was relaxing with Rain's head nestled cutely on her lap. The bat was twitching as she rested, the Infusio Potion having knocked her out. Was this supposed to happen? Yue didn't know but she didn't sense anything off from the contract so it must be fine. Apparently Blythe never had to worry about Venal's but she did get sick from other things. "I see." Yue gave Blithe a shy smile. "Um... I'm glad. I don't want to impose." No matter how much this house in the middle of nowhere felt like home, Yue knew at some point she would need to find her own residence, wouldn't she? "I want to get closer to Zinnia. Sometimes it feels like she's a little distant." Was it just Yue? Maybe Rain being around put Zinnia off a little?

"Well, summer vacation starts soon... so um, I guess that means more time to play with her." The problem was that most of their time together was spent learning how to read and write runes. Now that that was done, maybe they could get to the more fun parts of Yue's remedial education. "A week before the next school year starts Ulrich wants to see me to evaluate if I'm ready or not." Yue had no doubts that Zinnia would do her best to make sure her student was ready. But Yue herself wasn't so sure she was smart enough to do it. There was also the fact that she had used dark magic once before... was there a possibility the Elders might be able to find out?

Stretching, Yue looked at the fox demon and tilted her head, suddenly curious. "Can you show me your favorite spell?" She asked, wondering what kind of magic Blithe specialized in.

Blithe was sitting on a chair by the fire, the heat pleasant. She was sewing, making alterations on a sleeve that dragged on the floor. Rain had fallen asleep with her head in Yue's lap, the room silent save for the crackling of the restless fire thhat leaped to and fro in the hearth. "I had trouble getting close to my Master in the beginning," Blithe recalled. "I was a fierce General of Hell, a demon, and she was just... a kid." Blithe laughed at the memory of the small, but mighty child she bowed down to, but not by will. "We didn't see eye to eye, ever. She was stubborn, is stubborn, but was always worried for everyone else." Blithe looked up from her sewing, "Don't give up, you've already sneaked into her good graces."

The cuckoo clock struck the hour, informing Blithe that it was time to leave. "Let's go, there's an open house at the University, they hold an annual end of year festival." Blithe rose and placed the sewing back in the the basket, the needle now moving on its own to finish the stitch. Demons were different, they didn't need wands or to utter spells aloud, they could simply think and their mana carried through with their wishes. "Zinnia's giving the opening remarks," her tails stretched when her arms went upwards, back arching. "Rain, don't make us late," summer vacation was starting today, Blithe could hardly wait because waiting at home all day was dull. At least now they had guests to occupy her time, but of course, the fox preferred to be around her Master.

"Ulrich has become keen on you, don't waste that attention." Blithe warned, moving to put out the fire. Ulrich's keeping an eye on her could be a good or bad thing, it could prove useful in the future, but detrimental to their position if Yue somehow slipped. "My favorite spell?" Blithe took pause, considering this. "I don't have one, demons don't use spells the same way that humans do. I do like Zinnia's incognitious spell though, she came up with it. It let's the caster tell you if someone is lying to you by shooting sparks from their wand." If the person was lying, red sparks would shoot from the tip, but if they were telling the truth, nothing would happen. "Now come on, we don't want to be late. It's a bit chilly in the village, the sun doesn't always get through the trees so make sure to bring a jacket."

Zinnia looked at the parchment in her lap, scanning over her speech once more. She felt an odd sort of thrumming in her chest, perhaps nerves or the fact that she had barely eaten a slice of toast this morning for breakfast. "Are you ready?" Dean Eincrad inquired, the two of them on a raised platform, the open auditorium slowly filling. It was carved in stone, the entire center smooth, sunlight sparkling down on them between the trees. Zinnia looked up at him and nodded, "Quite," she replied curtly with a nod of her head, knowing that the other students would have their parents sitting beside them. If her parents came today... would she recognize them? Her memories of them were vague, a crinkling smile, a voice like a gentle caress.

"You're thinking about them, aren't you? Your parents I mean." Autumn's voice drifted from behind them, she strode forward, her dress lined with live butterflies that rested against the flowers woven into the cloth. Or perhaps it was merely flower petals mended together, Zinnia wasn't quite sure. "Only in passing," Zinnia closed her eyes and leaned her head back against her chair, the memory leaving as quickly as it had come. "I'm sure they would be proud of you."

Was that how demons saw their contractors? Did Rain, a demon with a long and decorated history of battle and suffering, did she also see Yue as just a kid? While Yue had gone through quite a lifetime of struggles, it probably wasn't even a flicker of light in comparison to anything Rain and Blithe must have lived through. She couldn't even imagine living that long at all. Apparently Blithe and Zinnia had a rough start as partners, but they sure got along great now. While at first Rain wanted to use Yue as a mana dessert, in the end they became akin to playmates now. "I hope to be close like you are to Blithe some day." She glanced down at Rain, brushing her blonde locks with care. "I hope me and Rain become good partners like you two."

A spell to see if you were telling the truth or not. Something like that would be pretty powerful to use for anyone. Would Yue be able to invent her own spells too? A part of her hoped so, another part was afraid of what terrible magic she may create. With her thirst for revenge becoming stronger the stronger she herself became, wasn't it really just a matter of time? "Okay, Rain, wake up, we have to go." Yue didn't want to miss her teacher giving a speech! It sounded like an important event and Yue wanted to show her support for one of the few who had ever been truly kind to her ever since she was born. Rain blearily opened her eyes, curling her wings and unfurling them just as quickly. "Mmmhhhhh." Rain tried to say as she yawned so Yue tugged her ear gently. "Wake up sleepy, we have to go to school now." There wasn't much time to waste.

Dressed slightly more formally, the two troublemakers found their way to the University following the fox tailed demon's lead. Yue was going to have to do really well and focus hard to be strong. After all one of the Elders was keen on seeing her progress. It wouldn't do well to disappoint any expectation Ulrich may have of her, however slim. They sat in the auditorium, the curtains closed, waiting for the ceremony to begin. "This is where you'll be schooling." Rain nudged Yue and told her with a silly grin. "If you can learn a little of the basics for each category for magic at least." Zinnia's job was to help Yue get at least the start of basics before the new semester began.

A small few amount of familiar faces were here as well. The Elders were all watching from a balcony seating above the rest, special accommodations for them of course. Somewhere in the mess of faces was Zacharius Aurora, wand maker of Constantina. "Hissss." Rain suddenly spat, alert, ears twitching. She went rigid, her body stiff and ready. "We're being spied on, Master." Rain's whisper was harsh and only for Yue's ears. The moon child nodded. "Keep us safe, but let's not make a scene." She didn't want to ruin the event, Zinnia's big moment.

The curtain opened, the auditorium was full of students and parents, both current and potential. The University was prestigious, they didn't just allow anyone in through it's doors after all. Those who didn't make it often switched out to other trades, such as potion making or starting stores in the square. "It's starting," Blithe said eagerly, a hush falling over all of them while the curtains parted and Dean Eincrad stepped onto the stage, some openly gaping at his odd features, others transfixed on the man who ran the most prestigious school in witch kind. "Welcome, Witches, Wizards, and Folk of all walks!" His voice bellowed out into the silent auditorium, the sound amplified thanks to a simple spell.

"It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to this year's Summer Solstice Festival!" The curtains opened up further, revealing chairs where the teachers were sitting. On the other side of the stage were Zinnia and Yuu, the next year's Head Boy and Head Girl. "We welcome those from all walks of life, into our doors today and ask that you please respect our rules and bear in mind that no parents are to enter the dormitory until the festival has ended. Now, I would like to invite our next year's Head Girl to speak a few words. Please, give a round of applause for the esteemed, Zinnia Evernight," they burst into applause, the young witch was well known for various reasons among those in Constantina. Yuu moved to take the handles of her chair in what could be seen as a polite gesture, but Zinnia moved forward, his hand slipping and his posture sliding as he nearly fell out of his seat.

She murmured a spell to amplify her voice and rose to her feet, thanking her lucky stars that Professor Elias has slipped her a strength potion just before. "Thank you, Dean Eincrad for that splendid introduction. Welcome prospective students, parents, and friends both old and new. With each year, we celebrate the coming and going of the seasons and with them, the graduation of the previous class. I have had the pleasure of encountering them, of interacting with each student and can attest to all they have learned in these halls. The University will feel the hole of their absence, but all the same, celebrate their success." This year's graduating class was a mere twenty students, a bit smaller then the one previous.

"There are lessons we've taken from all of them, from each other. Just as we learn from our teachers, we learn from our peers. Respect, loyalty, creativity, we will forever remember the laughs they have brought us, the smiles they bring us, and we look forward to seeing them thrive outside of these walls. As Head Girl, I promise to uphold the University's pledge and to bring us another year of prosperous learning and divine acceleration. Thank you and now without further ado, let the festival begin!" The teachers raised their wands, an explosion of flower petals suddenly showering the crowd. Zinnia sat back down in her chair, breathing a sigh of relief.

It must have been such an honor, a tiny little witch like Zinnia was chosen to be Head Girl. That must mean that among those of her class, she was the best performing of them all. Yue was lucky to have such a strong teacher, and the scary looking monster who had opened her gates, Dean Eincrad, gave the opening speech. With that, Zinnia stood up and spoke her pledge, gave a farewell to the graduating year, and promised to uphold tradition. There was an explosion of flower petals, and Yue clapped, waving her hand excitedly at Zinnia. It seemed everything was going to go splendidly. One day would Yue find herself up there too, following the footsteps of teach - of Zinnia? Rain smiled tensely at her as a mixture of a show of support and of anxiety.

Because they were being watched, and Yue knew someone was here who wasn't supposed to be. She didn't know who or what it was, but that didn't change the threat that this represented. Did the Elders know? Were the aware of it? Now the Head Boy, Yuu, was giving his speech, mostly hitting the same beats that Zinnia was. Looking closer the dark haired tall male boy did not seem like he got along well with Zinnia. Was it jealousy, or something else? The moon girl did not know, but she did know Zinnia was strong enough to be able to handle herself. "She's so pretty up there." Yue told Blithe, wondering if the fox demon also knew what was going on. There was another shower of petals when Yuu finished his speech and that seemed like the cue for the festival to begin.

Suddenly there was a flash of energy and a shockwave that blew people back. Yue felt dizzy but Rain caught her while many others were knocked out of their seats. Someone seemed to step out of a veil, long blonde hair, a cruel demeanor in her eyes, as well as exhibiting a massive amount of power. The demon appeared, with two more at her side, one large and strong, a single gaze was all he needed to make you cower in fear. And the last demon had a long serpent-like tail coiled around her leg, eyes shut, wings like an angel that could bring you to life. Rain's eyes went wide. "Baroness Licht." She explained and Yue blinked, not knowing what Barons or anything else meant. "She's-"

"It's good that there's so many of you here." Baroness Licht spoke with grandeur, it was clear she was some sort of royalty beyond other demons. "I'm here to remind you mages of your pact." Her eyes glowed red with a powerful energy and the other two demons behind her looked strong enough to wage war on a country if they so wished. Possibly not even the Elders could fight them. "As your Elders know and didn't tell any of you, us Demons are beginning our plans to create the Second Impact. Our goal is to break the lock and free my brother and his wife, Lumos and Kuro King, from their prison." Yue shivered, having never seen anything as powerful as this before. "You mages are to stand aside and you will not be harmed. But if you plan on getting in the way, us demons won't hesitate to fight back."

There was a pause and then suddenly Licht was walking at them, recognition in her eyes. She touched Blithe on the cheek - was it affection or admiration? "There you are, Blithe." The Baroness spoke. "You should come back and help us prepare. Don't you want to be promoted to a Baroness too? I'm sure you would meet the requirements." She bat her eyes, clearly familiar with the fox tail demon. "Asmodeus and Lachesis miss you too, and we could use your help to bring our Kings back." Yue stared at Blithe, wondering what she was going to do, wondering how the Elders would respond.

Zinnia sat back in her seat, her eyes fixed on the crowd. She was not listening to whatever drivel Yuu had come up with, stumbling over his words once or twice. He may not be the most charismatic in front of a large crowd, but his grades were what had brought him to this position. The festival had officially begun, but before anyone could so much as move, a crack went through the stadium, heads whipping back towards the crowds. A door had been opened, straight onto their stage. Zinnia's eyes widened, she grabbed on to something to keep from being knocked over, but the wind coming from the door was so strong that her wheelchair toppled over her. "Atticus strangeous," Zinnia murmured, her chair righting itself. Hands grabbed at her waist, Yuu lifted her easily, pulling her back behind the curtains.

"Don't touch me!" She hissed, wishing to strike him for laying his hands on her. It was embarrassing to be rescued, especially in the midst of demons. He made a motion, putting his finger up to his lip. The teachers on the stage had all risen, Dean Eincrad was clearly upset with the infiltration. Today was the only day one could not simply appear in the University, no doubt they had purposely planned this invasion. The Elders too, rose, Zinnia watching them between the curtains. Yuu too, had gotten to his feet, his wand at the ready. Zinnia's chair had been pushed back, had Yuu purposely moved it just out of reach? Did he intend to make her crawl to it? His focus was fixed on the ones standing on the stage, Zinnia crawled towards the curtain to peek between.

"Floo," she waved her wand in a circular motion, disappearing. Zinnia flew above the clouds, a new spell she had been working on. She couldn't send it to the board for approval if she didn't test it of course and now had given her the perfect opportunity. Had Blithe brought Yue here? Had they put the newbie in danger? No, Rainarch would protect her, even with the affliction, if she had taken the potion, she should have been fit for battle. Zinnia narrowed her eyes, even from up here, she could hear their bellowing, their gesticulating and posture alone were tall and proud. There, Zinnia spotted them, the mages had fled the arena, no doubt running to the halls of the University for safety.

Zinnia landed without sound behind them, her arms crossed. Blithe's tails were stiff, but she did not appear to be afraid. "Excuse me," somehow, perhaps adrenaline alone gave her the ability to present herself before them without shaking. "Please remove your hand from the face of my familiar," Blithe turned, her eyes widening. "Zinnia, I-" Zinnia shook her head and stepped forward. "Blithe belongs to me now, we have a contract and you will find that it is up to the legal proceedings of both the Mage Union and Demon Labor Association. If you would like to check your records, then please, by all means go ahead, but you will find that the paperwork is in order."

Blithe made a sound behind her, snickering into her palm. Her tails swished, she should have known that something like this would have happened.

Baroness Licht was one of the mots powerful there were, losing only to the Kings themselves, who were above and beyond anything else you might encounter in terms of demons. If a fight was picked, even the Elders would have diffculty keeping up with her, let alone her two subordinates as well, Asmodeus and Lachesis, also Barons in their own right. Yue was whimpering behind a stiffened Rain while Licht put her hand on Blithe's cheek, making the offer to Blithe to also come help in the Second Impact, whatever that was. Did that mean there was a first? Then Zinnia appeared, the only one to show no fear or hesitation, stating her claim to Blithe as professionally as one could.

Licht blinked, having not expected resistance, especially from a girl in a wheelchair. Then she broke into a grin, snickering with amusement at the tiny little thing before her. "I see. Mighty Blithe could have become a Baroness, but if serving a sickly witch makes her happy then I won't intervene." Asmdeus, the one wth the long sharp tail, then looked almost sadly at Blithe. "Lana would have liked to see you again." He said, voice a low rumble that shook the University's walls. "You're always welcoe back to retake your place in Hell." Despite being a Baron, it seemed he really did think well of Blithe. Lachesis, the angelic looking snake, nodded in agreement. "We'll kill some humans in your stead, Blthe." Lachesis pitched in with a twisted sort of grin.

There was a howling sound that pierced Yue's ears and then suddenly she felt attention on her. The three Barons were staring her down. Rain hissed protectively, putting her arm out in front of Yue. "This one smells unclean. Like the humans who have wronged us." Licht muttered with a disgusted scowl. Yue gulped, shivering uncontrollably. "I-I-" She froze, unable to say anything. "And it seems one of the wild dogs of Teranos is her familiar." Rain snarled again, bat wings flapping like mad. "I'm a bat, not a dog! I'm at least sophisticated!" These Barons were going to attack humanity beyond the veil, Yue knew this. A face flashed through her mind, once soulmate then traitor. Orie.

Yue couldn't let them kill her. Because she was going to kill her herself.

"N-No!" Yue suddenly declared, shaking like a leaf. "I won't let you hurt humans!" Her eyes lit up with a fury despite the terror and suddenly Yue felt brave. Licht stared at her as if finding a rat trying to fight back to be entertaining. "She's still untrained I see." The Baroness noted. With a puff of smoke someone appeared in front of Yue - it was Ulrich, his white hair looking like a lion's mane. "She slipped through the veil only recently, so we're still in the process of rehabilitating her." Yue ignored both of it, ignored Rain staring at her as if she were crazy. All Yue knew was that her revenge target was at risk of being stolen from her.

Yue always wished that she could be strong. Someone with the power to change the world through sheer force of will - wouldn't that just be so wonderful? The ability to alter reality with her decisions, to make whatever she wanted to happen, happen. So many things could have been changed if only, if only she was stronger. If only she had the power to make change. One of the many things Yue wanted to change was the power of fate. As she watched the magic beans slide down, hitting the rods, she shut her eyes and hoped with all of the little power within her that Zinnia would win something, anything. Even she had something, so why couldn't Zinnia get a win in? When she opened her eyes she saw Zinnia with her new prize, a stuffed animal named Luna.

"Congratulations." Yue said, patting Luna's head, someone who shared almost the same name as she did. Almost simultaneously a stranger arrived, a tall man with white hair and round circular glasses on his face came. He looked vaguely familiar - was he at the school when Yue had her gates opened by Dean Eincrad? He referred to her as the new recruit and then kissed Yue's hand, who flushed in confusion, never having had this happen before. Rain hissed, stepping between them. "No flirting with my Master allowed!" Rain snarled protectively, bat wings flaring. "Who said anything about flirting?" The strange man asked with a wink. Yue glanced worriedly at Zinnia and Blithe but received no hints. "Yes, I'm Yue." Where was the bravery she had before when staring down Baroness Licht?

"You may call me Elias Castle." He gave her a careful lookover. No doubt he was seeing a weak little runt of a girl, weaker than can be imagined, who knew less about the magical world than a frog knew about what was outside the well. "What do you think of potions?" Potions? Yue scrutinized him carefully, trying to think. There had to be a reason he was asking this. "Are you the potions teacher?' She was pretty sure she saw him at the University, so this was her best guess. Elias chuckled, glasses glemaing. "Yes, precisely. I heard from Ulrich you're looking to enroll. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can learn." The moon girl seemed to have dodged the trap.

He looked back to Zinnia then, seemingly losing interest. "The dueling tournament is starting soon, the signups are still ongoing." There was an odd twinkle in Yue's eye. A duel? For someone who apparently had a Major Affinity with offensive magic, something like dueling was naturally interesting for her. Even if she couldn't duel yet since she didn't know any spells other than one dark magic spell and one water spell, she could still watch and learn from the tournament. "It's a tag team duel if you and Blithe want to join. I'm sure Yue would like to watch either way." Zinnia, dueling? Was she good at that? She seemed to pacifist to enjoy something like combat. As well as too delicate despite how strong she was, one strong spell could seriously hurt her, couldn't it?

Despite all that, Yue's heart was pumping.

"Ignore him Yue, Elias is notorious for harassing new students." Zinnia rolled her eyes and crossed her ankles. "Harassing? Who? Me? Why, I would never!" Elias winked, "pleasure to make your acquaintance Yue,"[/color] he turned to Zinnia then, clearly having come all of this way to make the proposition. He wanted her to sign up for the duel, the spectacle of the year end school festival where students made fools of themselves and flaunted their defensive and offensive magical skills. Her first year, Zinnia had attended, bringing parchment and quill to take notes on the moves and spells the senior students had used. Of course, there were plenty of backfires, mages that believed themselves to be proficient but indeed having not a clue on how to confront one with a wand. A disappointment to say the least, no doubt that was why Elias had come to recruit her.

Zinnia was going to turn him down of course, until he mentioned the twist. A tag team? Preposterous! They had changed the school tradition? Zinnia could hardly believe her ears, this was a century old ceremony, almost a rite of passage to many. "I see that twinkle in your eye," Elias teased. Zinnia glanced at Yue, whose eyes truly were twinkling. With a sigh, the young witch resigned herself to her fate. "I suppose I'll enter," she resolved, Blithe's tails swishing in excitement. "My familiar will stay out of this of course and please, use an alias, nothing ungainly. You wouldn't want to scare away the other potential entrants." Elias laughed, his demeanor changing from flirtatious to kind. "Two against one? How very like you," Elias gave them all one last cursory glance before taking his leave with a flourishing bow.

"Elias is the potions teacher," Zinnia said once he was out of sight. "He has a flair for the dramatic and a passion for teaching, essentially, he's quite harmless. Unless of course, you get on his bad side, then he might make you clean the cauldrons after class." Zinnia flipped her hair over her shoulder, speaking from experience. She wasn't perfect, not like the air she exuded, the witch had gotten in trouble plenty of times. "Aw, I wanted to fight," Blithe teased, rather glad that she wouldn't be going into the ring. A familiar against two potentially new students would only scare the poor things. Zinnia had made the call that would not only protect the others, but herself as well.

"The match won't take place until the golden hour, we have a bit of time until then. What do you propose we do next?" Her fingers drummed against the handle of her chair, glancing between Yue and Rainarch. Anyone was free to participate in the match, so long as they had a wand and two feet to stand on. Still, Zinnia did not think Yue would be interested considering her lack of magical knowledge.

yue was almost beaming. Once Rain realized the potions professor, Elias Castle, was not in fact, an enemy, she stopped hissing, merely huffing a few times as he spoke to try to be passively rude. A petulant gesture, one that ultimately meant nothing as Elias did not seem to mind the familiar's belligerence. Apparently he liked to harass new students, but Yue figured that was better than someone who enjoyed beating you with a stick, like a certain someone from her colorful past. "Um, I'll do my best." As someone who only recently learned how to read, hopefully she would learn even more over the summer vacation to come. Zinnia was invited to join a dueling tournament, except this time it was a tag team battle, two per team. It was obvious the professor wanted to show off with his favorite student.

Once he left, and Zinnia confirmed that she would be signing up for the tournament - with Elias as her partner using some sort of alias so as to not scare off anyone, Zinnia explained a little more about him. "I hope he and I get along too." Yue twiddled her thumbs, not the most certain in her ability to do the best. Cleaning cauldrons after class? As Zinnia no doubt knew by now, Yue was not someone who enjoyed cleaning at all if she could avoid it. How messy the house was after she went through it was a testament to that. "I kind of want to fight." Rain said suddenly with a sigh. "But I'm not peak power yet." While she would never be as strong as when she was in the in between world, Rain still needed time to grow more accustomed to this realm in order to properly use her power.

"Maybe next year I can join. If it's tag teams, we can try together." Yue offered Zinnia, figuring that familiars wouldn't be quite allowed in something like this. She would try to focus hard in learning both Offense and Divination, because that was what her mana's natural affinity was. That made her wonder what Zinnia's Major and Minor affinities were. Potions might just be one of them, and considering how they lived in the middle of nowhere, nature might make a good guess too. "Hey!" Rain decided suddenly. "Let's go explore!" And so they aimlessly wandered until they happened upon a strange sight.

Autumn, one of the witches Yue saw when she first woke up, was standing at the edge of the woods, attending to a foray of strange creatures. The occlumency expert looked back and waved to them. "What's happening?" Yue asked curiously, not entirely sure what's going on. "The gnomes sense dark magic being used." Autumn explained. "The magical creatures we live with such as the dryads and the gnomes, they fear and despise dark magic." The witch explained calmly. "So I'm trying to use my occlumency to see if anyone's used dark magic today." Yue felt cold - it couldn't be Rain doing it, right? Wouldn't she have told Yue if she was going to cast dark magic?
