Introduction
The remains of a third-world war beginning in the year 2048 bring to focus the town of Glass Heights, a once bustling urban jungle in the United States, which has now diminished to the epicenter of the surviving world. With nuclear weapons being a driving force in the world, much else of once existing life on the planet has wasted away.
There are two kinds of people: those who fight ruthlessly to stay alive, and those of a much, well, "different" kind. Those that are a species of all their own. The effects of radiation coming from powerful gamma rays ,emitted from the atomic bomb, cause an immense mutation of a large and isolated population that have now spilled over into Glass Heights. These people, or "fallouts" as they are informally known, now consist of over 30% of the city's population. Feeding on nothing but human flesh, blood and bone marrow, these relentless mutants do whatever they can to get a hold of the remaining inhabitants. However, as agonizing as it may seem, most would rather be devoured alive by a fallout than live to see their new fate by escaping an attack. Radiation transfer can occur from a single bite and starts immediately. Flash burns begin covering the body, searing the flesh and not long after, cell mutation begins. By the time the whole process is completed, after four hours or so, the human has been mutated completely into a fallout.
Aside from constantly struggling against a mutated race, the citizens of Glass Heights must also deal with the wars waged between each other. With no government in place, it is a truly dog eat dog world in which most choose to carry multiple weapons just to step outside of their dead-bolted homes. Friends can quickly become enemies. Families turn against one another. No one can be trusted.
We have all become desperate and ravenous.
The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 2 authors
After the last board was in place, Rigby stood at the window peaking through a small hole in the wood, Ben was there right beside him, as always.
Nikolai prided himself in being the local cigarette dealer. Bartering with the other members of the city is what kept him alive. He lit his cigarette and leaned against the steps leading to his townhouse, allowing the smoke to escape his lips. He rested a hand on his gun, keeping an eye on the separated baggies of tobacco ready to go out for trade.
He shifted around as he stood, shoving his hand into the pocket of his jacket. It was cold, yet soothing. The cold always seemed to remind him of Russia. It was an especially nice treat when it snowed. He turned his eyes up toward the sky, surveying the clouds.
His head perked up at the sound of the dog. He had seen Rigby and Ben around quite often, and his love of animals always made him envious of Rigby's companion. He pushed his hat back down over his ears, allowing his eyes close and his muscles to relax.

He slightly opened one eye, looking up to try to find the sun so he could tell the time. He figured it was about time to get going if he was going to get to one of the only operating stores in the city before they locked up for the evening. He shoved the gun back into the holster, patting his pocket to feel for his small knife. He pulled his hood over his beanie, tucking his hands into his pockets.
It was getting dark quickly, and no one wanted to get caught in the dark. He kicked some broken glass away from the sidewalk in front of his home and began walking, his eyes fixed on the boy sharpening the stick. He wondered if there was any use behind doing that, as if he would get the stick sharp enough to actually kill someone with or something. Whatever. He needed to go stock up on some food before the day was done. He went around to the side of the building, grabbing a shopping cart. He pushed it with one hand.

He eventually made his way back, a cart stocked with groceries. He now held his gun in his hand, propped up on the handle of the cart. He didn't want anyone to get any ideas. The sky had grown dark, the temperature dropping down even lower. He watched his breath cloud in the air around him, the only sound seeming to be the incessant squealing of the wheels on his rusty cart. He reached his home, pushing the cart over to the steps and leaning against it, exhaling deeply.

He thought hard. His family had never known who he really was. Hell, no one did. He had never had the guts to admit to them that he may be gay, and then again, he never really had the guts to admit that to himself. He figured that his family in Russia was most likely dead. That the farm had been destroyed. He sighed deeply. He could see the lot where Ben roamed free from up here. He wished now more than ever that he had a dog of his own. He picked rock and debris from the gutter, tossing it at the building across the street. He listened to the echo as they bounced down. Everything here seemed to have a hollow sound.

"Listen." He said, leaning over the side and looking down on Rigby. "It would be pointless to shoot someone because they threw a pebble in your direction, no?"
This was the most he had spoken in a while, and his accent appeared a bit thicker than usual.
"Anyway, I didn't mean to throw it at you. I wasn't aiming for you. So put your gun down and go back into your little barricade."
He flicked his head in the direction of Rigby's building.

He climbed in through the window and exited form the front door, grabbing his groceries handfuls at a time from the porch and tossing them in, keeping a sharp eye on Rigby as he did so.
He then began to pick items up one at a time holding them out in front of Ben one at a time, "what about this? Does this look good?" Ben tilted his head and began drooling as he jumped up using his front paws to hold onto the cart as he sniffed around. Rigby smirked at Nikolai before watching his dog, satisfied.

"Don't touch my shit. And don't even try to pull your gun on me. I don't need you or your dog tainting my food."

"God dammit."
He stripped his pants immediatley, digging through the cart. He pulled out a bottle of rubbing alcohol, pouring a bit on the bite marks.
He said a few Russian curse words, now shivering a bit.
"Fucking dog."

"Shit!" He screamed out, his voice echoing loudly. He went darting pantless into the street, desperately trying to cock his gun while in motion. A fallout was in pursuit.

He now didn't quite know what to say to the other. He shifted his weight around.
"Uh, I'm Nikolai." He said, avoiding eye contact. It was all he could think to say.
