The peace between the Digital World and the human world following the final battle against BelialVandemon was only the calm before the storm. Thirty five years have passed and even though the two worlds have connected, something has been shaking the relations between the humans and Digimon as of late. In the more recent years, people have been vanishing, strange natural disasters have been occurring and unexplained illnesses have stricken the two worlds. As a result, Digimon have been suspecting the humans of betrayal and vice versa. Thankfully, war hasn't erupted, but that doesn't mean that things are getting better. However, there are still communities that encourage for both races to stay together.

Then, one day, it happened.

The U.N.'s computer systems were compromised by a hacker that only identified themselves as HERO, claiming that they would one day save the two worlds by driving them apart. At first, members of the U.N. thought it was only a prank. Then, shortly after, news of an attack on the city of New York came in. An army of Digimon and humans laid waste to the city... and not all of the citizens made it out alive. But there was one thing in common that all of the rampaging Digimon and humans had: they all wore dark rings.

Humans and Digimon alike flew into a panic. Both races blamed each other and their relations began to worsen politically. Their ambassador, Yagami Taichi, is doing all he can to restore peace, but things are not progressing as they should. The mysterious HERO is an enigma; no one has been able to find any sort of record on them; they don't even know if it's a boy or a girl.

But wait, you ask, where do our heroes come in?

Our heroes are none other than the children of the Digidestined who have grown into their pre-teen and teen years. One day, they each received a package in the mail from an unknown sender. Inside the package, was a digivice and a note that said: "Take your Digimon with you to Rainbow Bridge at midnight tonight".

And thus they did. An aurora borealis appeared when they got there and the whole city of Tokyo suffered a temporary city-wide blackout. And the next thing they knew, they were in the Digital World.
