Age: 57
Gender: Female
Ethnicity/Race: Caucasian
Level of Faith: Ira is an ardent believer in the Faith; she has had her moments of doubts, and been tested over the decades, but her belief in the Faith has remained strong.
Years of Service: Thirty-two
Weapons/Equipment: Two revolver pistols, a rifle, a Bowie knife hidden in her boot, two copies of the Book of Life, and several different eye patches to replace the one she wears in the event of its loss or destruction.
Personality:
Ira is a tough-as-nails woman, and one who doesn't take easily to foolishness and jokes. She is serious, grimly so at times, and has an extreme passion for the Faith and promoting it within the Deseret. She has an appreciation for 'gallows humor', as it were, and is known to make a witty remark now and again, but is otherwise an overly serious and determined woman. She also does not take lightly insults given to her based on her gender, as she's fought to prove herself as tough as any man over her years of service. And when she was younger, she was not appreciative of any man trying to 'charm' her or otherwise court her: as she stated many a time to her various suitors, she is married to the Church and to God. They serve as her husband, and so she remains devoted to the Faith and its tenants.
History
Ira has had a somewhat complicated and sordid history. Her past is known to but a few, select individuals, and they do not speak of her childhood out of respect for her. After her childhood, Ira came to Faithian lands, and when she was twenty-four, joined the Academy to become a Dog, being fully commissioned shortly after her twenty-fifth birthday. Since then Ira has served as a Dog, serving with many different Packs and people. She has served the Dogs and the Faith relentlessly, making no apparent time for family or children, instead marrying herself body and soul to the Church. She is nearing the age of mandatory retirement (sixty-two), so Ira knows her days as a Dog are numbered. Still, despite this, she still soldiers on, determined to serve her King and God, like a just knight from medieval Europe.
With regards to her lost eye: no one knows for sure how she came to lose it. People who attended the Academy with her, and the Dogs who knew her in her early years, know for certain she had two working eyes back then. But at some point during her duty, Ira lost her eye, and has since worn an eye patch over the dead eye. Stories and rumors have arisen to explain its loss, but Ira herself remains mum on the issue, so no one knows for certain what happened, except perhaps the Pack Leaders, who surely know what mission Ira was one when her eye was so grievously wounded.
As for her moniker...Ira made an reputation early on as someone harsh on heathens and non-believers, and believes wholeheartedly that sinners must either repent, or be killed for their crimes. And while she was discouraged from doing this, for a time she was quite infamous for burning many different people at the stake. Sinners of all shapes and sizes, though a majority of her victims were prostitutes and harlots. Hence why Ira is called 'the Merciless'. A nickname she's become quite fond of, and wears almost as a badge of honor.
Goals
To serve the Faith diligently and proudly, and to convert as many people as she can to the One True God. And to one day track down and kill a man named Travis Hope.
