8-Bit…8-Bit…8-Bit…!

I hate this city…so…cheery…

What if I just mixed things up a bit?

Played a little Game?

Just an innocent, harmless little game

I picked one fine time to move to this city eh?

Out of all the times I could have moved here, I pick the one time when everything and everyone is going bat shit crazy to settle down.

Well, let me pause there. I doubt you want to hear the ramblings of someone who hasn’t even introduced themselves right?

Right.

So allow me to introduce myself, I am Demetri Maverick. A shopkeeper, I sell a variety of things, ranging from the mundane, to the supernatural. But that’s another story for another time. You’ve come to me to learn just what’s going on here in this city right? And that’s just what I will convey.

It started just about the day I moved here, December 31st, 2009. The Dimensional Equilibrium around 8-Bit started to fluctuate, meaning, in simpler terms, 8-Bit was getting ready to undergo a change.

Originally, every place in the world has it’s own Dimensional Equilibrium. Whether it be a small island, or a giant mountain like Everest. This keeps our dimension, our world, away from crossing with others like the astral dimension, which holds your ghosts and ghouls. Normally though, every so often, the Equilibrium will tend to fluctuate, which will explain your ‘ghost sightings’. You dig?

So, basically, I didn’t pay much mind to it all when 8-Bit’s started shift, it’s a normal thing, happens a lot when new people settle down in new towns and such.

Who am I to know all of this? Well…I guess you can say I’m a kind of…Gatekeeper.
I make sure the different dimensions and planes are all in order, it’s a tiring job, but someone has to do it. I don’t like talking about my work though; just the thought of it can turn troublesome.

Back to the matter at hand, remember when I said 8-Bit’s Equilibrium began to fluctuate? Well, it didn’t stop. Normally, these little instances are just that, instances. They only last for about a week at the longest. This one, kept on going, it’s March now, and the fluctuations are only getting more and more erratic.

For now…the townspeople are oblivious to the shifts. Normal people can’t perceive things foreign to their dimension, they only see the damage those things cause.

For example, the other day, I stumbled upon a T-Rex the size of a small skyscraper. I handled it no problem (Gatekeepers have dangerous jobs, as such, we’re granted abilities to match with whatever baddies we may encounter), however it’s footsteps left some pretty unsightly craters in the street.

The people of 8-Bit all see situations like this as ‘unexplained phenomena’, and they’re the talk of the town these days. For now they’re nothing but interesting little rumors, but I fear for when things escalate.

I need to get to the bottom of all of this before things get worse, today a T-Rex, tomorrow could be some death machine.

It’s all so damn troublesome…

Mood Music 4: Those Who Fight Further

”These few…will be the Players…I wonder…can they do it?”—Unknown

The erratic movements of the rift have caused strange changes within the city of 8-Bit.It looks like slowly but surely, a small group of people within 8-Bit are gaining awareness of the ‘unexplained phenomena’s causes. Not only that, but they’re also gaining Gatekeeper-like abilities, but with an serious change; the way their moves grow and evolve are similar to a video game. The only way they can increase the power of their skills is to ‘level up’. These individuals level up by gaining experience points, I guess through battle?

I’ve even gained possession of a few items which ‘power-up’ my own abilities, my guess is their also a result of the Equilibrium’s situation and do the same for the individuals who have gained these abilities.

Regardless, I can’t let these people divulge these abilities that they’ve gained, if they did that, they could seriously screw up the nature of this world.

((scratch that about the timeskip in this post, probably the one after this perhaps.))

Demetri's unveiling of the girl's powers led to a somewhat emotional display from her and the boy Joel. He wasn't a fan of something as fragile as the concept of love, occasional companionship sure...but love was a pretty extreme thing. What's more to him is the rate at witch these two seemed to fall for each other, if he was right, the two of them just ran into each other less that an hour ago; maybe adversity did bring up such emotion in humans.

Such things were frowned upon in the Gatekeeper Order. Immortality tends to be lonely anyway, especially for one who travels from dimension to dimension. Gatekeepers work alone, never in groups, the existance of multiple Gatekeepers in the same dimension would cause the Equilibrium to literaly collapse from the sheer power the two beings emit.

This principle is what lead to Demetri's speedy apprehension of these four, not to mention his search for the man with the glowing crimson eyes. If there was a man out there with powers strong enough to snare a Gatekeeper like himself, he would have to deal with him swiftly, or else, 8-Bit, and maybe even the entire Earth Dimension would have to be
'purged' and sent to the Dimensional Desert.

These four individuals, and the other nine from the night before would hopefully be the key in tracking down the man. While the nine received their powers from the one in question, these other four recieved powers without any contact from him; perhaps there was something else in 8-Bit?

He didn't know, but right now, he had the first four in front of him, and it was time to take them back to his base.

"Well now that it looks like we're all prepared, head on through," With a simple smile, Demetri turned around to open the door, causing a mass of soft blue light too pour out onto the ground and his face. "It'll feel weird, transition from one dimension to limbo always does." Knowing full well they had no idea what he was talking about he gestured for them to head on through. As they did, he cast the fourth and final one, a student with a curious little box gripped in his arms a curious glance.

"So, are you coming too? I could just leave you here ya know...lunch is almost over after all."

***

Back in the courtyard the others were slowly dispersing. Charlotte spoke about heading back home, and, now that she mentioned it, Xavier realized she wasn't in any of the junior classrooms he delivered to this morning. She said she was home sick, but felt a bit better and decided to visit school. Weird, Xavier thought. If he got a free pass to stay home, he would have milked it for all it was worth; his mom never let him stay home, even if he was on his deathbed.

"Hm...you still coming to Dread's place with us right? I'm already carpooling so I can swing by for you too." It wasn't like her place of residence would be too far from the school; all the homes were on the same island with Atari anyway.

Finally, Xavier gave the run down of what had happened thus far, starting with the ‘phenomena’. Aemyle avoided anyone’s gaze as he went through that part; she was one of those phenomena, she was sure of it. And when he brought up the chimera, what was left of it popped out of Jayx’s bag to speak out. But it brought up one good point: they’d all heard a strange voice.

‘Moe’, or ‘Morris’ as he preferred, explained that the man who’d shrunk him last night (she recalled someone calling him ‘Maverick’) rewrote his code to ‘level one’. She didn’t know much about video games, as they were very different on her planet, but she had played some since her arrival. She knew enough to know that level one was what some people called a ‘Noob’, short for newbie. While Moe kissed up to little Nym, the others pondered how the game term applied to them.

Upon the arrival of Xavier’s friend with dyed hair, the group moved on to how they were to level up. The newest arrival made references to a game Aemyle had not yet heard of, so she had to hope what she understood was enough to get through the conversation. Though, with a bit of love from Nym, they were able to get Morris to explain that training their powers would help them level up. It really was like this place’s video games, this situation.

“ Hey, you know how in super Mario bros. they have se paths that are right in front of you, but you can’t see them. Well maybe all our answers are right in front of us, yet we just can’t see them clearly.”

"Hrmm....maybe you're right," Xavier sighed, obviously frustrated with the lack of understanding this meeting had achieved, "We just need a pair of glasses so we can see better...Fifth period's right around the corner...let's break for now, but we'll all meet back up in the first floor lobby?" He heaved himself up off of the table.

"Hrmm...I'm gonna have a packed car again aren't I?” He inquired.

“I do apologize,” Aemyle stood up, “I’ve not gotten around to getting my license, yet.” She smiled at him. “That seems like a suitable meeting place, though I do hope it is not quite so crowded as before.”

It crossed her mind to tell them of her true nature; that she was an alien from another dimension, sucked here by some strange phenomena. But she thought it was best to hold off on that. This Demetri character who seemed to know so much would probably need to know as well, and he might even be able to explain what brought her here, but if she had to tell him, she would wait until they met at his shop. So, she bid everyone farewell, and wished Charlotte good health, and returned to her class room.

"Hm...you still coming to Dread's place with us right? I'm already carpooling so I can swing by for you too."

Charlotte looked over her shoulder, wondering if Xavier had been talking to her or someone else. When she found him looking her way, she decided he was.

"Um, well, sure. I've got nothing better to do. I live closer to the edge of the Residential side. I'll be ready." Charlotte waved and left this time, out of site as the doors swung shut after her. She began her alk back home, not bothering to stop by her mom's classroom.

Outside the school, she had a brilliant idea. Probably dangerous and stupid, but brilliant nonetheless. The girl slipped behind an alley, only a few steps from the school campus. She tried to remember the feeling of shifting. A burning energy, it felt like she was going to burst, like a fire that can't burn out, a wild animal that can't be tamed, can't be caged...

A wild tiger, running through the streets of 8-Bit City, just trying to get home faster; Charlotte wasn't thinking like a human- no common sense to take the back alleys- she only knew how to get home. It was her destination, and she went as the crow flies.

"Yeah, I promised my dad I'd swing by the presinct after lunch." Jack told Xavier as the group began to split up. "He's a little surprised with the fact that I'm not in my bed hurking up blood as I've been the past few months, so he wants me to check in so he can confirm that I'm not going to suddenly keel over and die."

As he said this, he reached into his pack and pulled out a (rather thick) stack of papers, handing them to the taller teenager.

"Also, I did your homework while you were out about caboodling an' whatnot. Did Jayx's too while she was... well, being Jayx." The young man added with a shrug "Might still want to go over the notes though, can't do your tests fer ya."

Standing up himself, the lad picked up his bag and made to leave, giving one last remark over his shoulder;

"I'll meet you guys at the Dread-Head's later."

---------

It'd be a long walk to the industrial district, hell, it was a long walk from the school to the first bus-stop that went that way. Normally Jack would've just taken his beatentohellmobile, but his dad made a point of snatching up his keys before he could get a hold of them. Not like he could fault the man's logic; people who mysteriously recover from equally mysterious illnesses should probably not be responsible for operating an automobile within twenty-four hours of said recovery. Bad things might just happen.

John Kernow the elder was nothing if not a logical man.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw a familiar figure, whom he quickly recognised as the young lady he'd first met at the table; Charlotte. The boy raised his arm to wave...

Then she turned into a tiger.

And took off down the street.

A street filled with people.

People with cellphones.

Cellphones with the arabic numerals '9' and '1' on little buttons on their surfaces.

"God. Fucking. Dammit." Jack eloquently noted as he took off after her, surmising that any odd looks by passers-by or stern, military-styled talking-to's recieved from his father on the account of his chasing a wild tiger through the city streets would pale in comparison to the level of crap the girl'd be in if animal control actually caught her.

Tracking her with his on-board sensory equipment, the cyborg Welshman made a point of using convenient backalleys and side streets to try and gain as much ground as possible on his quarry while his cybernetic legs propelled him forward as fast as they possibly could, far beyond what was possible for a normal man, as he tried to think up a way to stop the girl he was pursuing and also stop her from being quite so... giant... carnivorous... feline...y... without hurting her.

Figures all this shit would happen on a monday.

God, did Jack hate mondays.

Nym listened to the explaination from Morris about the whole leveling up thing. It did sound exactly like a video game, which made it easy enough to understand what to do now. So they just had to practise alot, and they would get stronger. It would be nice to know what exactly she was practising. She quickly looked at her watch as everybody was starting to disappear to fifth period. Looks like they were going to split up again for a while. Finally she had found a group of people that she could feel quite comfortable around, enough to even talk to them. Perhaps she had even made some friends.
She watched everyone disperse, looking down at Morris who was still on the table,
"I take it that I'm taking you with me then?" She asked the chimera, wondering how she was supposed to keep him with her without everyone seeing the creature.

He would probably have to stay in her bag. At that thought, Nym opened up her bag, taking out some of the books to make some room for Morris.
"You can jump in here if you like," She said as she opened up her bag, "There's a jumper in there for if you're not comfortable or you want a nap or something." Perhaps the chimera wouldn't appreciate this, seeing as he was such a proud and noble creature, but he just could not be seen in this world yet.

"You have to hurry up though, otherwise I'm going to be late for class."

Xavier

“I do apologize,” Aemyle stood up, “I’ve not gotten around to getting my license, yet.” She smiled at him. “That seems like a suitable meeting place, though I do hope it is not quite so crowded as before.”

Xavier grinned, “Eh, hey, riding with Ms. Eolis isn’t too bad.” He nodded at the second bit of her statement, “I lot of kids head out the side entrance cause the monorail’s closest that way, so you should be alirght.” The senior assured her, drawing from his four years of experience.

"Also, I did your homework while you were out about caboodling an' whatnot. Did Jayx's too while she was... well, being Jayx." Jack handed Xavier his papers from when he was gone, he didn’t know whether to be thankful for his friend’s gesture, or to be disappointed in the amount of work they received only on the first day.

“Thanks man, I’ll repay the favor,” He said, before Jack walked off.

Xavier watched as the gang dispersed each one exchanging different words and such with each other. An amused look spread across the seniors face, thinking about how their little group could become a nice little circle. This bunch was the farthest from who he would have hung out with this year, except for Jack and Dan who he probably would have kicked it with anyway. He just wished their meeting had been a lot less…stressful.

He was ready to take off back to his homeroom, but then he noticed Moe and Nym engaged in some conversation. There was a tiny vein in the corner of Xavier’s forehead that bulged whenever that chimera spoke, so with a sour face he walked over to him.

"You have to hurry up though, otherwise I'm going to be late for class."

“I hope you’re not bothering her Thing.” Xavier spat, with an ominous tone in his voice.

“Eh? What the hell are you doin’ specs, get to class! I’m going to class with Nym this time <3” Those tiny pink sparkles were in full swing around ‘Morris’ right now, and all he could do was shake his head at the situation.

“Fine, just be good. At least you’re not with Jayx…I think Nym can handle you better.” Xavier shrugged and started on his way out the courtyard, but not before smiling politely at Nym, and casting Moe a dagger-like glare.

The Gatekeeper

On the other side of Demetri’s doorway, there was a blinding flash of light which surrounded all four of them ((he dragged Valor along)) in it’s warm sensation. To some, dimensional travel could induce a brief state of nausea or vertigo; others are naturally immune to the side effects. If you were of the first group, you would learn to overcome it in time, if you were of the second group, which were bonus points when you entered the Gatekeeper academy. Demetri, in his younger days, was of the nausea group. It took him years to overcome his phobia of Dimensional Travel.

Anyways, back to the matters at hand.

Once the five of them (even Demetri can’t keep his eyes open during the flash) opened their eyes, they stood in a wide area. The very atmosphere of the locale would feel completely foreign to anyone not familiar with locations like this.

That was because, this is what it felt like to be between Dimensions, dimensional limbo.

The ground on which they stood on was completely see through, allowing them to peer into the scene below—a city, much like 8-Bit, except for one difference: it was bathed in complete darkness. Curious creatures swirled around the many skyscrapers, while clouds of the think black substance floated around rampant.

If one looked overhead, they would see a very similar sight as the one below. The ceiling on the place was also made of a see through substance—was it glass? Regardless, this city was much brighter in fact, it was 8-Bit. If you looked closely, you could tell that they were standing right underneath the residential island where they were located only moments ago.

A ways away, dead ahead of them was an average sized building. It looked rather out of place in such an strange, dark location. That was Demetri’s shop; why had he warped them so far from his place of residence.

Dimensional limbo was a very frightening looking place. Save for the glass ground in place of the sand, it was almost like a desolate expansive desert, it even had trees, which appeared to be made of some crystalline element—they lacked any type of ‘leaves’ though.

Behind them was the door Demetri used to bring them here, and it shut with a loud click.

“Welcome to 8-Bit’s Dimensional Limbo kids!” He said to Joel, Naydelle, Don, and Valor with an almost eerie joy. “Hope it’s all not to hard to settle in to.”

Finally class had come to an end, this day felt abnormally long after he came from lunch. Maybe it was all the anticipation he had. It was time to learn the true nature of their powers, from a man that seemed like he knew everything.

Xavier and Jayx were the first two to arrive in the scarcely crowded lobby. They stood right onto of the twin-dragon monogram that was imprinted on the tile. The both of them looked around anxiously for the others; Xavier, ready to go, Jayx, excited to see Demi.

I wonder what Maverick will pull this time He thought with disgust, causing Jayx to frown. Demi isn’t gonna pull anything! He’s gonna help us out, right Karen? The freckled girl shot back, calling for the defense of her motherly imaginary friend. Of course Jayx, Demi’s very nice. You should learn to trust him Mister. Karen said firmly at Him, causing a hush to fall over Jayx’s consciousness.

“Ugh, the anticipation is killing me. Hey…we don’t even know where Dread’s place is…” Xavier thought, a bit puzzled. But he quickly shook the thought away, “How hard can it be? The guy’s aura is insane, we’ll find him.” The senior nodded hard, a goofy grin wide on his face.

“Yeah! I’ll sniff Demi out!” Jayx grinned back at Xavier running over to initiate a high-five, not missing a beat, the giant slapped he hand with an intense enthusiasm.

“How the hell do you know him anyway Jayx?” He asked the girl, it was a strange connection to have that was for sure. But then again, Jayx was strange herself so it shouldn’t have been of much surprise to him.

“Uhm…well…me and Demi talked a lot, in my…” She looked away, embarrassed, “He…helped show me around town one day!” Jayx said with a frantic head nod. It was obvious that she was holding something back, but Xavier wasn’t one to pry.

“Ah…that’s nice of em’ huh?” Xavier turned away scratching at his beard. “Man…they better hurry up, or else I’m leavin’.” It was a bluff, but he sure did want to do it though.

Don was lead though the door with a bright flash. What a time to be without my shades Don thought as the light enveloped him and he closed his eyes. When he finally opened them he felt a bit of nausea, but nothing he couldn't handle.

As don looked around he blinked a few times at what he saw. Not really shocked so much as enticed by the eerie glass landscape, but that all palled in comparison to what was under him and above him. Two whole cities that seemed mostly the same except one was light, which he assumed was his town, and a dark one. He noticed normal people in the light one, but as he scanned the dark version he noticed creatures he could only imagine in his dreams.

“Welcome to 8-Bit’s Dimensional Limbo kids!” Demetri said with a ring of joy in his voice.

Looking at Demetri as he spoke Don replied with a smirk, "Well call me Alice, because we just fell into the rabbit hole." Looking up and seeing a few ladies, he thought to himself I wonder if I could look down some girl's shirts, well look up them from here. Continuing to scan the surroundings he notices the only normally looking thing in this place, which was a building.

"So umm Demetri, us coming through to here, would that count as maybe hazard pay," Don said with a laugh. He looked at the others and they seemed to be a mixture from shocked to calm. I guess everyone handles things different, Don thought with a smile at least I know I'll enjoy this.

Daniel walked down the stairs to the lobby where he saw Jayx and Xavier, he let out a yawn and than dug in his pocket and threw pulled out a detention, he stretched it like most would stretch a dollar or any other type of paper money. Daniel smiled and walked up to them. He than said “ well I got another detention. I think I can rest easy for the next couple of days knowing that my record has been beaten.” Daniel smiled and than threw the detention in the trash. Daniel started to stretch and he said “ hey, where is everybody?” Daniel than thought about it and he than said to Xavier “wait, I don’t know if you told me this already or not, but are you planning on fitting everyone into your car?” Daniel than chuckled as the thought of Xavier’s car becoming a clown car popped into his head.

Tetris

Daniel watched as most of the students started to leave, he was happy that the day had finally ended. He was bored of school and he couldn’t wait for the weekend. Than a thought came to Daniel, he took out his cell phone and began to play video games. Daniel was always able to come up with good ideas while playing video games. After a minute or two Daniel looked up at Xavier and said “ I think I have an idea, but now I can’t really tell what it is, it will come back to me later.” Daniel than went back to playing game, he than shouted out in anger while shaking his phone “ give me a line piece you stupid game!”

If there was anyone who could claim they felt completely out of place, it had to be Valor. He tended to think of himself as one who rose to the challenge, but this time he was having a bit of difficulty figuring out exactly what he was supposed to do here. He felt like he was in the middle of some strange, convoluted dream, where up was down, left was right, and not even your own thoughts could be believed. And Valor didn't even have any clue what HIS power was, if he even had one, and this wasn't all some nasty hallucination caused by bad meatloaf. Because it's always the meatloaf. No one ever blames the yogurt, it's always the meatloaf. Couldn't possibly have been the yogurt.

Well, the nausea certainly wasn't a hallucination. That was definitely very, very real. Valor managed to hold down the aforementioned possibly polluted sustenance, but only just barely. As Demetri introduced them to the place, he just sort of shivered a bit, staring around. See, think, then do. See, think, then do. Valor kept repeating this mantra mentally to himself as he liberally and thoroughly performed the first step.

I--- gotta get out of here,
I’m stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake,
I--- gotta get out of here,
And I’m begging you, I’m begging you, I’m begging you to be my escape!

Aemyle sang as she distanced herself from the class hallways and made her way to the lobby area. Xavier had been right; the area around the lobby was only occupied by a fraction of the area the rest of the students seemed to be flocking to. It was a good meeting spot.

She felt good. After what happened in third period, Aemyle had tried to repeat the ‘song-pulling’ technique, as she called it now, during the remainder of the school day. It was so much easier when music was already going through someone’s mind, but she did manage to pull to her mind some songs she did not previously know. One song’s owner had even identified themself inadvertently by humming the pulled song a bit.

“Man…they better hurry up, or else I’m leavin’.” He heard Xavier whine as she walked up.

“I thought you wanted me to ride with you?” She teased, closing the distance between her and those who had already gathered. She poked her tongue out childishly to finish off the jab.

“Besides, I have discovered what my power is,” She smiled. “Think of a song you are fond of, but do not tell me what it is.”

Nym looked around the corridors wearily as she looked for the first floor lobby after class. She did hate not really knowing where she was going most of the time, and she didn't have a map to help her navigate this place. It all seemed too big. She glanced down to her open bag, seeing Morris sitting in there awkwardly on her jumper, staring up at her with big eyes, the pink sparkles appearing again as he noticed her checking on him. She quickly took her gaze away, not wanting him to start talking while there were still other students around. Because a talking bag would not make her seem strange, not at all.

Thankfully, she managed to find the familiar looking group and quickly shuffled over to them. She caught the end of what the green hair girl, Aemyle, had said. So she had discovered her power. It was beginning to sound like she was the only one that didn't have an idea of what she could do. Fat lot of help she was going to be. Everyone was going to be able to fight with their powers, and there was going to be her, standing there like a dork not knowing what to do. Nothing unusual there then. That stupid voice had forced her into this whether she liked it or not, and she couldn't even find whatever power she was supposedly given.

"Nym, are you alright?"

The concerned voice from her bag distracted her from her thoughts, only then she noticed that she had been frowning a little, her gaze lingering on the floor. She glanced at her bag, seeing Morris's upper body out of the top and his... claws? holding onto the strap of her bag as if preparing to climb to face level.

"I'm fine," She told the chimera, not needing anyone to worry or fuss over her. "Just wondering if there was going to be enough room for all of us in Xavier's car." That should've been enough to throw the attention away from her.

Preston shook his head, placing one hand on his forhead as he walked down the hallway to the first floor lobby. The whole school day had gone by in a complete blur, as if nothing had even happened that day. He remembered it all clearly though, and that was why he was on his way to meet up with Xavier and the others, so they could go see the man from the previous night. He yawned as he made his way, looking around him occasionally to see all of the students around him, hurrying home from their first day at school.

To his right was Lilli. They had stuck together at the end of school so that neither of them would get lost. Preston wasn't exactly familiar with the area, but neither was Lilli, but they figured it couldn't be too hard to find.

After a few minutes of walking, Preston was able to spot out Xavier, standing in the lobby with another one of the people from last night, who he identified as Daniel. "Well, there they are." He pointed them out for Lilli, and together they approached them.

Preston spoke to them first. "So, Xavier. We going to see that guy, or what?" He had a lot of questions that still needed answers, like how he wasn't dead or even hospitilized from the burns that plagued his torso, and how he managed to go from ordinary kid to extroardinary heroe in a mere couple of hours worth of frozen time. He was confused, and therefore scared, although his surface emotions wouldn't show it.

Lilli followed Preston down the long hallways, turning when he did, stopping when he did, anything to remain close as to not get lost. Although it was going to be hard not to get lost, Preston had just about as much of an idea of the surrounding area as she did. She letr out a groan. 'Dammit.' She mumbled, looking down at her feet, and then back up.

After what seemed like forever of walking, Preston finally stopped, pointing out Xavier and a couple of others from the night before. "Good. Let's go." She said, following as Preston approached. She listened to what he said, and then oerked up as well. "Yeah, I really want to know what the hell is going on, especially if were going to have to be like this for god knows how long." She looked back down at her feet, and then at Xavier, and tried her best at a smile.

Revolution

Dan came first, with yet another detention slip in hand. Xavier had to admit, he didn't expect him to pass up the record so fast, on the first day even, that was unheard of. Though, at the same time, one had to feel some sort of worry for Daniel's academics...

"Hey Xavier, are you planning on fitting everyone in your car?" Dan asked, which caused him to take a deep sigh.

"Yeah....I was hoping Jack could take some of you guys but, he's nowhere to be found...sheesh." He shook his head, a slightly disappointed look on his visage.

"I thought you wanted me to ride with you?" A teasing voice called out from not to far away; it was Aemyle. She topped off her jab by sticking out her tounge at him. Xavier laughed, throughly amused.

"Aha, you're learning well," He said, impressed, as she strolled over to join them, "Nah, you got me. I'd be crushed if I missed the chance to have you in my ride." The fellow in the glasses smirked playfully. Aemyle had a wide smile on her face, as if she had some exciting news to convey to him and the others. "We'll probably have to lap up..." The thought instantly made his face shift from brown, to a hint of red.

"I found out what my power is, think of a song you are fond of, but don't tell me what it is." She instructed them, Xavier nodded and brought his finger to his chin to ponder. Finally, he came up with one, and the tune played through his mind like elevator music.

Wake up, things might get tough,
No need to stress, hold ya back too much,
Wake up, I heard they found a solution,
Where will you be for the revolution?

He wondered what this all had to do with her power, but for now, he just went along with it...and got lost in the music.

* * *

With some delight, Demetri watched the student's individual reactions to Limbo. Don seemed to be adjusting fairly well, even taking the chance to sneak a peek at some ladies up above. Valor, well, he seemed fine enough, lost in his own thoughts. The girl, Naydelle, he couldn't quite tell, she was completely still. And Joel, the necromancer was busy observing the scene underneath their feet: Negative 8-Bit.

"That's...what is that underneath us Demetri?" Joel asked him, crouching down to get a better look. You could barely see the town through all of the swirling black fog. Only a few skyscrapers were tall enough to cut through, the main one being the Eos Corp building. Demetri looked at him with a curious glance and a risen brow. "If that's 8-Bit above us...then...?" Still crouched to the glass ground, Joel looked at the man with big red eyes.

"Well, that's 8-Bit too, just it's Negative version." He was intentionally holding back information.

"Negative...?" Joel was confused.

"That's all you need to know for now, I've got something a lot more interesting to show you all; a little bit of training." With a wide smirk, he snapping his fingers. A strange swirling blackness formed behind him, twisting and turning until it formed a wide circular hole in space. "We're going to another dimension; finish what I have for you to do in there...and I'll tell you everything." Dreads chuckled with a cheery glint in his golden eyes.

Peering sharply into the Gate Demetri created, Joel could see the faint image of what looked a bit like the Roman Collesium, what did that mean?
What did Demetri have in store for them.

"What...do you want us to do?" Joel asked him, cautiously. Demetri nodded, both to his own self and the boy.

"There are nine others who've got powers such as yourself. Their students just like you, but they obtained their powers from someone malevolent, and are aligned with this fellow. If these students and their Master have their way, you can say bye bye to 8-Bit, and maybe even the world as you know it." For the magnitude of his words, Demetri spewed them out rather dully. "In that portal is a place where you can battle monsters to your hearts content, and get stronger to fight against that evil." He looked at each one of them with an icy stare.

"I won't blame ya if you wanna turn back. I've got another stop to make back in 8-Bit, so if you want me to...I'll drop you off. But just know that without your help, this town is done for." He held his hand out, ready to lead whoever accepted his offer into the Gate, and to a new Dimension...and perhaps an entirely new life.

((crappy post, sorry guys. by the by, Neko my song is Kid Cudi Revolution, when I get by a computer I'll post the actual link.))

Back in the lobby, Xavier was happy to see the rest of their group forming up, minus Charlotte and Jack though. He only waved though, still trying to focus on the melody playing in his head; he didn't want to lose it through chatting.
Jayx though, with the aid of her friends, was able to keep a tune going while still doing six other things. So while Odd sung away that tune of 'Somewher. Over the Rainbow', she walked a bit closer towards the three freshmen, a simple smile on her face.

"Yep! We're gonna go see Demi. I'm sure he can clear aaaall of this up." She turned her head a bit towards Xavier, Daniel and Aemyle's position, "Aemyle figured out her power, she told em' to think of a song...but I dunno what for yet." The freckled girl shrugged, hiding her impatience. She couldn't wait to go see her friend in the shopping district. "I wonder where Jack and Charlotte are..." Jayx looked around, trying to spot them, but to no avail.

Charlotte was running at high speeds. Her mouth was open, breathing heavily. Her eyes were open and watching carefully with more than perfect vision. The air whistled around her ears, though she could still hear easily. People around her moved out of the way- some ran- cars were screeching to stops & swerving. She wasn't in the road, but who wouldn't want a good view of a tiger? They'd think she was another Phenomena.

She was thinking as a tiger would think, just racing to her destination, determind to get there no matter what.

She leaped over a trash can someone had knocked over. She swerved between people and smiled to herself at their shocked faces. Turning a corner, she slipped and half slid half slammed into a brick wall. The wind was knocked right out of her, but not the burning energy. Charlotte shakily stood and regained her balance. A huge circle of people, still giving her a fair amount of room, had formed around her. She drew back her lips and snarled, hackles raised, baring long, sharp teeth. She eyed everyone, daring them to cross her while she tried in vain to find a quick and easy escape route.

Charlotte was still scanning when there was a movement a little farther back in the crowd that caught her eye, moving steadily towards the front. She braced herself, claws out. But to her suprise, a familiar face pushed out and stumbled a feet feet closer, then stopped himself. Memory, memory...where had she seen him before? A flashback replayed in her memory- him- this boy- her- this tiger- shaking hands and introducing themselves...This was Jack.

Jack. Jack. Hold onto that name, don't forget.. She tried to tell herself. Charlotte relaxed a bit, human senses crashing back. Glancing at her paws, she saw them slowing chaning back to fingers. No! They'll know who I am & I'll be put in an insane asylum at best, at worse they'll dissect me and I'll never see daylight again. Willing her to stay tiger, Charlotte kept her eyes on Jack.

Two last human thought passed through her mind-

There were others like her.

They were supposed to meet today.

"Sounds like fun to me, so count me in," Don said while looking at the others. He noticed Nydelle still hadn't said or done anything since coming here, worrying him just a bit, but still not enough to detour him from what was in staring him in the face. A gate, which showed a roman coliseum on the other side.

He looked at Joel and the new kid,"Well I'm heading in to get as strong as I can, you guys should come along and don’t forget to drag Naydelle along. I believe she is still in shock," with that Don walked toward the gateway and entered it. There it was agian the nausea and the blinding light.

When he opened his eye's he was on one side of the ring, which he could guess was the width of a football field maybe a bit bigger. Don was immediately assaulted by the loud roar from the crowd. He looked around and thought there has to be at least two thousand people here. Shortly after the shock and nausea passed, he noticed a new smell in the air, blood, well they mean business I guess, I hope everyone hurries up cause I don’t think I can take them on by myself Don thought as the gate on the other side of the ring begun to open.

"Then this fight has started hasn't it," Don said under his breath, wondering what was about to come out. Entering a command on his wrist computer to get ready to active his powers, he begun to head toward the middle of the arena.

When Xavier nodded, Aemyle closed her eyes and sought out his melody. She detected it with minimal difficulty; he must be playing the song in his mind. She’d simply asked him to think of the song, but he went beyond that. He must really be fond of this song.

I’m so higher, so higher and I like it, hey
I’m so higher, so higher and I like it, hey
I am happy today,
This not like other days,
Some how I feel okay,
Some how I feel okay,
” She sang, voicing a part of Xaver’s song. She ended with a smile before detecting an odd switch in song. After listening to Jayx speak she tried to pull the song further forward in an attempt to see who’s head it was coming from.

Somewhere over the rainbow, Skies are blue…” Aemyle muttered. “What song is that?”

((And Because Aemyle is pulling the song forward for her to learn, Odd should remember more of the lyrics. :P))

Those new words spoke shook Valor out of his thoughts. Fight? Well, he'd been in a few scraps before, but only in self-defense. This was different, though. This was about saving... somehow.... the entirety of... No. Valor stopped himself mid-thought, shaking his head a bit to clear away the dust and the cobwebs. He decided that he was still feeling foggy from studying so hard the night before, and thus put all thoughts of anything school-related out of his mind.

"Looks like you've got yourselves some warriors... Better add one more!"

Valor stepped forward, cracking his knuckles and stretching out his back, getting himself ready to move. Even in battle, Valor would tend to think with his mind more than his body--at least, until the adrenaline started flowing. He WAS a straight-A student and had even skipped a grade, after all. Ready to throw down, even without being completely sure what his power was, Valor walked the rest of the way into the gate, not even waiting for Demetri to help him.

Demetri frowned as Don jumped right on into the Gate he created. This kid wasn't big on brains was he?

"Well, your friend certainly had no issues did he? So, what about you three?" Dreads asked, tapping his foot against the glass impatiently. Joel stepped forward next, a solemn expression on his face. "Ah?" Demetri exclaimed, wondering what the boy was going to do.

"I'll go. We can't let those nine and their Master have their way right?" Joel clinched his fist, looking cautiously at the Gate behind the tall man. Dreads had a chilling look in his eyes as Joel spoke, which managed to shake him just a bit. The red eyed student turned to Naydelle, concerned for her sake. "Naydelle...you don't have to come if you don't want to. J-Just leave it to us." He grinned, hoping that she would smile, if even just a bit.

"I'm worried about Don....I think if we leave him there too long he'll break something." He was joking of course, but still, the thought of that kid alone in a new dimension was....unsettling. After a moment of peering into the Gate, Demetri attention shifted back to the students. "So? What will it be? You three coming? I doubt your friend can last long, even against those small fry." With his thumb he pointed back to the Gate, he had to be quick about it, because by the looks of things above, school had ended.

I just hope Alistair does his job right...

* * *

In the collesium, the boy stood in the dead center of the sandy arena. Indeed, it's size was grand. Three...no, four entire football fields could fit inside it's grandeur, and perhaps still that wasn't an accurate enough way to describe it's size. In the stands, thousands upon thousands of people, thirsting for a bloody sight screamed numerous curses the newcomer's way. At the head of the circular complex high above even the crowd, was a box, decked toe to toe with red velvet. It had a throne their, waiting for it's empty spot to be filled.

Floating around near the base of the colliseum where Don was, was a curious looking fellow on a cloud. He wasn't elderly, but he sported a shiny bald cut, and his clothing was only described as very 'turtly', even his skin was an odd tint of yellow. In his right hand he gripped tightly a white microphone, adorned with tacky looking gold wings. This was the arena commentator Icarus.

"What do we have here? A new contender? What strange lands does this contenstant hail from? What is his story? How can such a young face hope to survive in the Games?" An electirc anticipation shot through the crowd at Icarus' words; not because they thought Don stood a chance, but because they were finally able to see some blood, and by the appearance of this contender, lots of it.

The gates for the beasts, which was located in the front of the arena, underneath the velvet box, rose open, revealing seemingly hundreds of fearsome looking red eyes.

"And it looks like the contender's first opponents are...ooh...that's no fun! Just the wolves! Oh well. Fight!" At Icarus' words, dozens of gray wolves, salivating at the thought of a meal, were sent charging at Don.

Atari High, Lobby

"Whoa..." To Xavier's surprise, Aemyle was able to sing the Cudi tune he was thinking of word for word, picking up at the same spot he left off of. That was no coincidence.

"Somewhere...over the rainbow..." Jayx's eyes widened as Aemyle picked up on Odd's song, she though he was the only one that knew it. But the surprises didn't end there, back inside her mind, Odd was still in the middle of his concert-- but with one huge difference this time from his other shows: the tune was no longer looped.

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, ooooooooooooooh whyyyyyyyyyyy can't IIIIIIIIIIIIII?!!!!!

Simply from the shock of it all, Jayx leapt into the air. "He sung the whole thing!" She hollered over and over. Never in all of her sixteen years had Odd ever sang the entire song. It was....baffling (sp?).

She ran over to Aemyle and grabbed her hands waving them around in celebration. "You're amazing! Howdja do it?!" Her green and brown eyes were sparkling with joy.

Xavier was doubling over with laughter at the sight. "Aemyle, you're a hit!" He teased, laughing deep and heartily. After the fit died down, he slowly wiped the tears from his brown eyes, looking around hard for the sight of Jack.

"Man...where is that guy...?"

"Hey, Xavier didja hear?" One of the girls from class came strolling by, aparently she had club today, or else she wouldn't be caught dead here. The girl paused, seeing the singer among his group.

"Nah, what's up?" When she didn't respond, he waved his large hand in front of her face, snapping her back into reality.

"Sorry...oh yeah! There's like, a tiger or something not to far from the school! It's totally clogged up traffic, my mom called me freaking out!" The girl's gaze shifted back to the green haired girl, "Hey..."

"A tiger..." Xavier's eyes narrowed, "Wasn't Charlotte...." He grimmaced, "Shit...guys we gotta go!" He relayed, quickly putting two and two together. Xavier prayed that it wasn't what he thought...but knowing their luck, he was probably dead on. The senior waved for them to follow before taking of towards the front exit by himself.

"Hey, Xavier! Why didn't you tell me you were friends with Aemyle?!" The gossiping girl hollered at him, but the young man was already out the door.
"What's his problem?" She shrugged, strolling away from the lobby and back about her business.

* * *

Outside, near all the commotion, a single figure tried his best to cut through the crowd. Minding his polite words the man slithered on through, 'Excuse me', 'Pardon Me', were all you heard from the short fellow.

The crowd was gathered with horified expressions at the wild animal that looked like it was coming straight for them.

"No, no, no...this won't do at all! Master Maverick will throw a fit!"

The voice was old, but spoke with a hint of vigor. He pulled up beside the tall Mr. Kernow, a walking stick grasped in his hand. He had a long pointed nose, his snow white hair was only in existance on the sides, while his skin was pale white. The strange person dressed finely in a black suit and white and black striped tie, with a pair of black loafers to top it off. The eccentricity of this man was obvious from the curly white moustache he wore, it ruined whatever formality he wanted to convey with his appearance.

"Well, are you going to just stand there? Or are you going to stop her?" The old man turned to Jack, an anxious gleam in his beady golden eyes. Jack gaped at the owner of the voice, not replying though, only letting out a groan. It looked like things were only getting worse.

Charlotte was getting closer, and it looked like she wasn't ready to stop any time soon.

((Uhm, Nightmare train did you click the account button? To send messages that is.))

Demetri grinned proud of Valor's decision to step on through the Gate. He was sure Don could use some help at this point, even if it was round one of the tourny.

((Yeah Astro, it says "You are not authorized to send private messages." :P oh well.))

Charlotte couldn't decide what to do.

She had stopped, a yard or two infront of the wall where she had slid to a stop. She stood with her head down and ears back. She tried to keep her tail high to show know fear. She wasn't exactly scared, just...indesisive. (sp?) And in her case, it might be okay.

Her eyes were locked with Jack's. She didn't want to forget, and even if she did, she'd have to remember why the hell she was looking at the guy. Her sensitive ears caught another voice.

"Well, are you going to just stand there? Or are you going to stop her?"

It was a rusty old voice, she could tell. Her vision path didn't waver though. The croawd was still captivated. Something had to happen soon.

Where was Animal Control? The Cops?
This was 8-Bit City. A tiger- compared to a chimera- wasn't a lot.
But tigers have claws and teeth.

Claws and teeth hurt.

The old man grimaced, apparently the boy was hesitant to do much of anything with all these people watching. With a deep sigh he tucked his white walking stick underneath his right arm, and clapped his hands together, which were covered by a pair of white, silk gloves.

"Fine, have it your way. Humans are so worrisome." A wispy purple haze gathered around the crowd, and suddenly a unified yawn came from everyone within 10 feet of the haze. All of them collapsed into one big fanfare of snores. "There, now, please, get your friend." The old man smiled eeriely at Jack.

"This guy...another weirdo?" Jack sighed.

Well, at least he saved you the trouble of a crowd. Now you don't have to worry. Navi said with delight.

"Yeah, until the cops come..." At those words he remembered the delivery he was supposed to make to the presinct, before all of the commotion. "Great...now my dad's gonna be all over me." Yet another incident thanks to the monday curse.

"Hey! You can change back now!" He hollered at Charlotte, hoping she would be able to still make out human in that form as he gingerly approached the tiger.

"Now...I'm sure there were supposed to be seven others like them...where are they?" The old fellow cuffed one of his hands over his eyes to keep the sun away from his sensitive peepers-- they weren't used to the light of 'Positive' 8-Bit.

((gr. Ima try this stupid url link. If it doesn't work, I give up.))

Jack and the man she'd heard were talking quietly, then all of a sudden, everyone in the crowd collapsed and fell. A quieter noise replaced the clammor- light breathing. Were they all alseep? But everything was quiet...except

"Hey! You can change back now!" Jack yelled, waving his arms at her.

Charlotte barely understood, but, keeping her eyes on him, she tried to remember how to change back. Human thoughts- right.

My name is Charlotte Nicole Dales. I am a 17 year old Junior at Atari High in 8-Bit City... She was already starting to change. It was quick this time. In and out, not a human eye could see it...unless you were "special," like Jack and the old man.

She was very tired now, after running so much and the shifts made her stomache flip over. Not as bad as last time though- she didn't feel like puking up her empty stomache. Charlotte was now shivering, hugging her knees to her chest. The possibilities of animal shape-shifting was endless, yet why was she worried? I'll just get in the way...

New beginning? Or the start to a horrible and troublesome school year?

Bright light. Vertigo. Nausea...Nothing.

She had closed her eyes and now opened them tentatively, but found herself unable to do more. Everyone around her was spinning and talking, talking and spinning, but she was stuck. No tilting of her head. No questioning the city below. No looking to Joel for comfort or help. Nothing. She was trapped in herself and couldn't move.

The man talked about helping the city, but she couldn't agree to it...Not until she saw Don run off. She panicked internally and her hand finally moved to squeeze Joel's. And then her head moved, eyes still wide and unblinking, to listen to Joel. He was saying to leave it to them...to go home...

"No! I'm coming with you. I want to help. I need to help," she stated, before giving him a tight smile. "Let's go help Don, okay? Apparently, I have powers, too. Let's see if I can use them."

And with that, she stepped into the portal, keeping a hold on Joel's hand, and prepared herself when she saw the red eyes...The wolves.

((N!ghtmare, you need to make a certain number of forum posts before PMs are enabled.))

Valor had the utter misfortune of stumbling into the middle of the arena, right behind Don, right as the wolves were released. However, it appeared he had not been blatantly noticed. This gave him the opportunity to observe his opponents, the pack of wolves. Wolves. Gray wolves.... Images flashed through his brain, information coming to the forefront. Time seemed to slow to a crawl for him as every single fact he had ever learned about his query surfaced, helping him to formulate his battle plan. By the time he'd finally come out of it, ready to fight, it seemed to him as if nearly ten minutes had passed. In reality, though, it had only been a few seconds. Part of the delay was from exhaustion... but both that, and the other half of the delay in perceived time to elapsed time was much simpler.

He had found his power.

Any other time he would be giddy with excitement. But now he had to help out Don. Since these wolves were likely no more than feral beasts, they wouldn't react much to his voice. Furthermore, they were less responsive to voice in general, as opposed to gestures like hand signals. "Don! Wolves hunt less effectively as a pack than as pairs or individuals. We need to hold back and siege them, damage them slowly and take them out at once!"

#, as written by Valor
Nym looked from Xavier and Jayx to Aemyle as the green haired girl sung parts from songs that they had been thinking. That was a pretty neat gift, seeing as she was a singer too. She was a little unnerved by Jayx's reaction, edging away a little as she bounced around. She was thankfully distracted as Xavier had a conversation with another older student, who mentioned something about a tiger. Instantly her thoughts flashed back to the tiger that had leapt infront of her to protect her, and Xavier seemed to recognise who it was too, suddenly rushing off.

She glanced down to Morris,
"Guess we should follow then..." She said, noting the look on the chimera's face. Either he didn't like her following Xavier or didn't want her to chase after a tiger. Did he even know what a tiger was? Either way, she was still going. She said she was going to help, after all. Nym was nowhere near as fast as Xavier, but she still ran after him, trying to keep up as best as possible which got harder as the crowds grew.

Run away!

Nym paused in her chase as she heard a chorus of high pitched voices sing the same two words over and over. Run away! Run away! Run away!
She looked around, unable to see any people screaming those two words.
"Morris, did you hear that?" She asked quietly, still looking for the voices' owners.

Morris looked confused.
"Hear what? People screaming, that's understandable."

Nym shook her head a little,
"No, not that. Other voices, telling us to run away..." She continued to talk as if she was thinking aloud, looking around as suddenly all the people dropped to the floor in a deep sleep, judging by the snores.

"Well the only things left to say something are the birds. And birds don't talk." Morris pointed out, making Nym's gaze wander towards the sky. The voices had faded away now, and all was quiet again. That was strange.

"Let's just forget about it, probably just some hyper kids or something..."

With that, Nym continued on her way, picking her way through the crowd of sleeping people till she caught up with Jack and Xavier, who were now looking at Charlotte - along with some other guy that she didn't recognise. She noticed the way that Charlotte was shivering, she looked a little scared, maybe tired too.
"A-Are you... okay?" Nym asked, the stutter returning to her voice as she'd never really spoken to the older girl till now. She edged forward, crouching down infront of the older girl so that they were at eye level. She offered the girl one of her small hands to help her stand again,
"Maybe we should get out of here..." She suggested, glancing over her shoulder to all the sleeping people, "Before they wake up...?"
