Description

Tristen Martin Lester

Image

Nicknames: Tris, Les.

Age: 7

Date of Birth: May 20th

Fears: Shares the fear of never finding Tyler and getting to know him. She rarely says it, but Tristen desperately wants to meet her father.

Habits:: Talks to herself a lot and sings when she's thinking. Tristen also has a habit of biting her lower lip when she's in been caught in something she wasn't supposed to be doing.

Personality: Energetic. Fun. Sweet. But that's not enough to sum up this girl. Tristen isn't the kind of girl that likes pink dresses and tiaras. She likes watching Transformers and wearing denim shirts. Her favorite band isn't 1 Direction and she has never played with dolls. Not that she'd care to admit at least. Despite all that, she's an incredible source of fun and energy. She loves her mother and loves watching a movie with her or just cuddling up next to her on the couch. The fact that she has never met her father has caused her to be a little more boyish than most other girls.
She is very direct when she meets people and asks what she wants to know, which can sometimes be percieved as being rude. Kyle is the only person that has slightly resembled something like a father to her. He's been the only man close to her mother that she's ever seen, and Tristen loves him.
This little girl is tough. She's almost always happy and when something does bring her down and make her sad, she'll tell her mother and they'll talk about it. After that, it's chin up and move on. Tristen is very thankful for the fact that her mother has told her about her father.

So begins...

Kendra's jaw dropped, and her eyes grew huge, and she stopped biting her bottom lip. "You f**king bastard!" Kendra turned him around, and slapped him hard across the cheek with her hand. His cheek was a bright, tomato red, and so was her hand. "Tyler f**kin' Martins, I know exactly who you are. Why do you think I don't? " Kendra caught her breath for a minute, then screamed, not caring who heard her. Kendra swallowed. "Her name is Tristen. I had her a month after I turned 19. NINE MONTHS, after you left. Now, I don't know if you're smart enough to do the math..." Kendra then grabbed his collar, and gripped it tightly as she whispered in his ear. "But, you're a father." She let go of his collar abruptly, and pushed him back, without knowing it. " I loved you. I didn't have the heart to tell you to grow a pair, and come be a father. And..." Kendra looked at the sidewalk beneath her feet momentarily, then looked back up, wondering what hiding spot Zoe was in. "Here." Kendra slipped a card with her number into his jacket pocket. "Your beautiful, amazing, smart, and talented daughter wants to know her father. " She sighed, turning. "I shouldn't have told her about you."

Kyle took a deep breath and nodded, looking up at her and smiling sadly. "Yeah..." He said quietly and sighed shaking his head. "I just don't want her hurt..." He looked up at her and spoke in a normal voice. "Anyway, Summer, would you mind telling me about yourself? I don't like talking to people when I don't know who they are." He gave a small laugh, he was good at hiding his feelings.

Kyle leaned back in his seat, relaxing a little as he thought. "Hm... well, let's start simple, we can each ask a question and we have to answer our own question too. So, would you like to ask the first question?" He asked, being courteous. Then he looked at Tristen surprised as she had her little outburst and he looked at Summer for a moment. "Should we...?"

Kyle nodded in agreement with Summer, then chuckled at her statement about the question. "Alright then." He thought for a moment. "How did you meet Kendra?"

Zoe pumps her fist in the air at Kendra's outburst towards Tyler with a huge smile on her face.

"Hell yeah! That's my sister!" She whisper shouted. It may have been a bit to loud because Kendra looked around as if trying to find her. Zoe flinched and ducked inside, feeling confident Kendra could handle herself. When she entered the café, she saw Kyle and Summer talking, and she didn't want to interrupt if something was happening between them.

She quickly stepped in unnoticed and grabbed Ethan, realizing this was a good a time as any to give him his lunch. She quickly glanced at Tristan, looking confused at everyone. She quickly tapped her on the arm.

"Come outside with Ethan and me. We can talk, okay" She smiled at he little girl, realizing she hadn't had much time to get to know her niece very well.

Kyle smiled at her warmly and chuckled. "I'll tell you how I met her then you can ask me a question." He glanced up as Zoe asked Tristen to come with her then back at Summer, he was still worried about Kendra, he wanted to chase after her but since Zoe came back he figured she was alright. Zoe seemed like a protective sister.

"Well, it's a bit of a long story but I'll try and make it brief. I was walking down the street on my way home from work one morning and I saw Kendra and Tristen, and Kendra's parents walking around, they were obviously lost so I offered to show them around. Kendra and I talked a lot during that tour so we decided to stay in touch."

Summer's attempt to calm her down worked, but Tristen still wondered what Kyle had meant. He had asked Summer if they should tell her something, that much she got, but she didn't know what. And Tristen hated when secrets were kept from her. She gave up though, and looked defeated down at the table.

Not long passed though, before Zoe came back in and rescued her from listening to Kyle and Summer talk about each other. She looked up at her aunt and nodded gladly, following her outside. "What do you want to talk about, auntie?" Tristen asked and looked up at Zoe, head slightly tilted to the right. Her eyes moved from her to Ethan from time to time. She had never been this close to a baby before. Not that she could remember anyway.

Zoe smiled at her niece as she dug though her bag and pulled out a little baby bottle, filled with milk and still a bit warm. She turned towards Tristan.

She took Tristan's hand and led her to sit down on the bench, then she sat next to her with Ethan in her arms.

"Have you ever fed a baby before?" She asked, but didn't wait for a response before she handed Tristan the bottle and sat Ethan softly in her lap. The baby looked up at her with curious eyes, before breaking out in a big gummy smile.

"Just keep his head up and hold the bottle." Zoe said smiling and her niece, feeling confident Tristan would do fine with the child.

Kyle nodded to her and left, hurrying to the night club, taking shortcuts through alleys so he made it there in only ten minutes. He sighed as he entered. He looked at the ground, his eyes deep with thought. He wished he could have Kendra, but it was obvious to him that that wasn't going to happen, not with that bastard around. But he didn't feel as bad as he did at first, maybe he had Summer to thank for that. He smiled softly and began preparing for work.

She didn't get to say anything before her aunt took her by the hand and sat her down on a bench. Tristen wondered just what was going to happen as Zoe took out a bottle of milk and handed it to her, along with Ethan. "Woah." The child let out in suprise. She placed her small hand under the baby's head and held the milk bottle with the other one.
Tristen sat there for a moment and just stared at him, then up at Zoe and then back. Slowly, she put the milk bottle to Ethan's mouth and watched him drink.

"He's drinking!" She exclaimed and smiled brightly up at her aunt, excited. She had never done this before and it was completely unexpected. Ethan smiled as he drank eagerly and looked to be enjoying himself. "Wow, aunt Zoe." Was all Tristen could say.

"Well, of course he is, kido" Zoe laughed. "I can tell your going to be a great cousin for him."

She sighed and leaned back on the bench, feeling the cool air hit her face. It was a nice day that day, no clouds or rain, not to hot or cold, just perfect.

"Geez, not everyday you get a day like this, huh." She looked a Tristan. "So, Tris, How've you been these past few months. No one giving ya trouble at school right. Just tell your aunt Zoe, and she'll take care of it." Zoe chuckled a bit remembering when Kendra and her were kids, and anyone to pick on Kendra would always wind up on the ground with her standing over them in a bat of glory(she's being dramatic of course).

Kendra sighed. "You running away, again?" She screamed at Tyler as he left, and then paced back and forth in a nearby alleyway.

She couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't take him anymore. Kendra loved Tristen, and she wouldn't dare take her own life just because of Tristen's idiot father. What had she seen in him?

But, Tristen doesn't need to see her mother in such a vulnerable state, either. It'd go against everything Kendra has taught her so far.

Kendra climbed in her car, and buckled, the rested her hands on the steering wheel. She stared at the cafe, seeing Zoe helping Tristen feed Ethan. She smiled at the sight, then bit her bottom lip. She quickly lost the battle against her emotions, giving in, and crying.

Image

After about a minute, the crying got so bad, Kendra was letting out small squeals, and leaned her head against the steering wheel. She finally toughened up, and put the key into the ignition, stomping the gas pedal, and going where ever her heart lead her.

She chuckled and looked at the baby once again, watching him drink. There was a certain thing about watching him do just that, that made her sort of calm down. Tristen couldn't explain it, but she just felt it. Maybe everyone got that feeling? She smiled again as she heard her aunt say that she thought she would make a good cousin for Ethan. He was still so small though that all she could do was watch him and help feed him.

After a moment of silence where Zoe seemed to look up and enjoy the weather, she spoke to Tristen. "Hmm?" She let out as the woman spoke. Amused, she laughed with her and shook her head. "No, no one is mean to me." The girl let out and shook her head. "Well, sometimes the older girls tease me for playing with Transformers instead of Barbie dolls, but I tell them to shut up." Tristen said and chuckled. "If they're mean I'll just tell them that my aunt will come and make them not be mean!" She added, smirking shyly.

A few moments passed and Tristen began looking around, seemingly searching for something. "Aunt Zoe, where's my mom?" She asked as it had been a while since she'd last seen Kendra.

Kendra drove for a few minutes, before pulling over in front of their apartments. If she was going to "run", then she might as well tell Zoe. She pulled out her old flip phone, from her purse in the passenger seat.

"Going out for a bit. Drop Tristen off at Kyle's later."

Was all she texted her sister. She then hid her phone in her purse again, and drove off.

Zoe had already been looking around for Kendra when she had said that. She had noticed Kyle and Summer were both gone, and so was Tyler, and now Kendra disappeared too. It confused it. She stared to worry for her sister.

"I don't know." She replied. She suddenly felt her phone ring in her pocket, and pulled it out to look at the text.

Going out for a bit. Drop Tristen off at Kyle's later."

She frowned, wondering where Kendra could be going. She knew something happened, but she didn't was to worry Tristan. She turned to the girl in question.

"That was your mom. She said she was going out for a bit and to drop you off a Kyle's..." She rubbed the back of her neck. "But I think he went to work, so I guess me and you have some time to kill. Anything you want to do?"

"Is something wrong with mom, aunt Zoe?" She asked, suddenly looking concerned and no longer wanted to sit with Ethan. She was concerned for her mother as she had never done anything like this before. Kendra was always there. Whenever she needed her she was there, and rarely went anywhere without telling Tristen about it.
When she heard what her mother had texted Zoe, her brows furrowed, not really understanding.

"She never does that." Tristen said and sighed, pouting. At least she was with her aunt now and felt safe enough, even though she hadn't seen her for a long time. Zoe was family after all, family took care of each other. "We could..." She seemed to be deep in thought for a moment, contemplating what they could do to kill time. Still, it was hard for her not to worry about where her mother was. "We could go to the park!" She said and suddenly the smile was back on her pretty face.

Kendra drove towards the heart of New York, a place Tristen had never been. She parked outside a liquor store, then went inside and bought a bottle of Jack Daniel's, cheap cigarettes they had by the register, and a lighter. The cashier looked at her curiously for a minute, but then sighed, and gave her her change.

Kendra then walked to the bar nearby, the "sister" of Kyle's. She sat in a corner table, popped open the Jack Daniel's, chugging it in 5 minutes flat. She missed the burning sensation she had down her throat.

Kendra drank and smoke with Tyler. In fact, he was the one that introduced them to her in their teen years, and part of the reason Tristen even existed. He'd gotten her flat drunk one night, and then banged her.

Kendra then lit a cigarette, and inhaled it, deeply. She held it in her mouth for a minute, then let out a huge puff of smoke. "Looks like I still got it.." She chuckled, inhaling more.

Zoe saw how Tristan looked at the revelation that her mother had drove off, it almost made her want to tell her everything she knew(Which wasn't a lot) about the current situation, but she didn't because Kendra would get angry with her if she did that.

Tristan suddenly exclaimed that she wanted to go to the park and she smiled. "Sure!"

They decided to walk to the park (Zoe said it was because of the nice weather but really she had forgot to fill her car with gas). The park was large, with swings, slide, monkey bars and miles of fields to run around in.

Zoe took Ethan and placed him in the baby swing, which was conveniently located in a place where she could keep an eye on Tristan. But, or course, her mind couldn't help but wander off.

"It just occurred to me that I left my sandwich back at the café" The mumbled. "My poor sandwich..."

She followed Zoe to the park. Tristen still couldn't find her way around on her own. She wasn't allowed to go outside on her own any way, so it was always with her mother. The park was beautiful. The trees provided shade and there were all sorts of things to play on. Zoe set Ethan down in the baby swing and Tristen found a swing for herself next to him, slowly swinging back and forth.
"Aw, we can buy another sandwhich on the way home, aunt Zoe." She said and smiled at her, as if to tell her that it was going to be okay despite the fact that it wasn't a particularly serious matter.

Still, even though she had fun on the swing, her mind wandered to her mother and what she was doing and why she had gone away so suddenly. That was so unlike her and it didn't sit well with Tristen. "There was a man you were all talking about, aunt Zoe. Who was he?"
