Personal Assistant to an older vampire and brother to one newly turned.
Edward Tollins is a "teddy bear" (according to his sister), though he maintains a very serious appearance and attitude when he is working. Although he has not lost his soft compassion from youth, life has turned him in to a hard and violent man who can be a force to be reckoned with when backed into a corner. He is constantly thinking of his sister and his employer and their welfare, putting everything including himself second. While he has the capacity for great patience, being a hunter, he tends to be short with people when he finds himself in circumstances that seem to be turning out other than he planned. He mostly keeps to himself, engaging others socially only as part of his duties. Tollins understands very little about how vampirism works, but has no desire to learn more. He generally treats aspects of vampires he doesn't understand with apprehension, but views them as an unsolvable problem that should be handled with the same respect that humans deserve, at least until they show themselves to no longer be worthy of that respect.
Excluding obvious security situations, like airports, Tollins always carries a SEAL Pup Elite knife on him in a specially designed sheath that allows him to carry it just under his left armpit. He always has a cell phone on him and his Ironman watch. He does carry a .40 caliber Glock G27 with two spare clips when his duties are categorically more hazardous. Through his employer, he can obtain just about anything else he would realistically need to accomplish his objectives.
When Edward and his twin sister Samantha were 17 they lived in a small town in West Virginia with their grandparents, both of their parents having died a few years before in a car accident. Samantha was beginning to take an interest in the structure of government and so Edward surprised her with a trip to D.C. After a long day of sight seeing and listening to lectures that put Edward to sleep, they decided to see the Reflecting Pool at night before heading home.
As they were sitting by the edge talking about their plans for the future, a man jumped out from behind a tree and attacked them. Edward was thrown to the ground where he struck his head against the walk and blacked out for a moment. When he came to, he saw the man standing over his sister who had gone limp. Thinking she was dead, he pulled out his hunting knife and flew into a rage. Though the man was surprisingly strong, Edward managed to cut him deep enough and often enough that he soon lost the fight. Picking up his sister he began to walk as fast as he could back towards where he had parked his pickup truck. He knew that if the police showed up it would most likely end badly and just wanted to get back home.
Though he tried to avoid lights and people because he was drenched in blood, he accidentally ran into an older man knocking him and Samantha to the ground. When he helped the man up, he questioned about the blood and his sister. As Edward explained, the man's look became more worrisome as he inspected the girl. He informed him that the two of them were in some danger and should go with him back to his residence until Samantha recovered. Once there, the man explained that Samantha was in an irreversible process of conversion to a vampire and that the two of them would be hunted down and killed if they were found out. After much explanation, time, and a few drinks, Edward gave in and chose to believe that the man was telling him the truth.
The man offered to take Samantha to his private ranch where she would be raised and educated in safety as well as provided for as long as she should live. In exchange, Edward would commit to serving his benefactor in whatever ways he should need assistance for life. Thinking only of his sister, Edward agreed. The man arranged for their two deaths to be faked, and had their grandparents notified so that they no longer had a connection to their previous lives. Taking a new last name of "Tollins", Edward continued his high school education under the guidance of his benefactor in addition to physical and combat training.
Now, 10 years later, Tollins is the right hand man of his benefactor, managing all security operations and assisting with several other tasks. Though he sees his sister as often as he can, he understands that things will never be the same again and is just glad for the moments they still have. The benefactor has become a dear and trusted friend whom Tollins regards as closely as family.
