Fatum

The Mad Oracle

0 · 349 views · located in Bandits' Underground

a character in “Fusion Fantasy Neo”, originally authored by Alexander von Koopa, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Approximate Clothing

Theme - Subuta.2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Age: 89 (Relative to human lifespan)

Gender: Male

Race: Xatu

Alignment: Neutral Evil.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Physical Description: Fatum is a Xatu dressed in the robes of a priest of the sun. He's also physically infirm and weak - even light blows are enough to cause lasting injury.

Personality: Fatum, being a Xatu and an oracle, can predict the future and finds only suffering and death therein. However, he is insane and believes he must cause the future he has seen, or he is worthless as a being, even if his future involves the world's destruction. As he is incapable of destroying the world on his own, Fatum relies heavily on the work of others, manipulating everyone and everything he comes across. He will abuse any power he is given and is incapable of seeing others as anything more than tools towards the future. Always thinking in the long-term, his methods are strange and confuse anyone but him.

History: Fatum has been slowly, subtly manipulating history for a long time, but most recently came into the public eye when he manipulated Estrella into mind-controlling a small army of Pokemon and leading them against humanity. Even when his manipulation was shattered he seemed to think it was all "part of the plan". His visions may indeed be symptoms of madness, as he has given conflicting stories as to what the future holds - and thanks to time travel he may be working against the same exact plans he is setting up. After he became well-known many started to seek out this oracle for some mad strain of advice, but he hasn't made getting to him easy. Those that have managed to find the mad oracle throughout space and time may themselves just be manipulated by him, but to what end?

Equipment: Fatum's robes, along with being ceremonial, help protect him from attacks and keep him alive, but only slightly.

Abilities: Fatum has great control over illusions and future sight - capable of seeing, and even travelling through, space and time. Combat-wise, however, Fatum is not the greatest, capable only of breaking the opponent's mind and not their body.

Other: Fatum is dangerously insane, but the Hannibal Lecter kind, working in subtle ways rather than flipping out. He always has a goal to work to, but only works for himself, caring less about order and chaos.

Inside the temple (what Camilia can see of it, anyway) is a Xatu sitting and meditating in the middle of spiky statues of legendary Pokemon. If her spell to eliminate illusions/see through them is working, she can tell that one of the statues isn't a statue at all, but a living, breathing Pokemon... for a certain definition of the term.

Camilia was even more puzzled by the situation than before. However, her attention soon turned to the rocky Pokémon. She's seen a lot of Pokémon, but certainly not any like this one.

This Pokémon looks vaguely like a Mewtwo, but its skin is far too scaly and spiky to be one. It shares the spines and claws of a Tyranitar, and a very large one at that. The Xatu in the center of the statues opens its eyes.

"Hello, Camilia," said Fatum. "I've been expecting you. Won't you join me? I find meditation... quite enlightening."

"!!!"

Camilia was startled by the Xatu's attention shifting to her.

"Oh - ! Um...it's, uh...it's okay. Say, have you seen a sword fragment lately, by any chance?"

"Yes," said the Xatu.

He's silent after that, going back to meditation.

"...I see," Camilia replied. "Do you...know where it is?"

"Yes," said Fatum.

Wow. These answers are really irritating.

"...Where is the fragment?"

"In the lair of some bandits," said Fatum. "Along with a book I desire. Perhaps we can aid each other. My followers know where your sword piece lies but can't get to it safely. You can. I'll be happy to loan you a few soldiers to escort you there and get you safely through the lair if you can get the book for me."

"A book? Well, I suppose that - (!!!)" A sharp pain struck Camilia in the heart at that time. "Nngh - ! {catches breath} W-Wha - ??" She wasn't sure what caused it, but it didn't feel at all light.

"Problems with a Bell Tower?" asked Fatum. "Go if you wish. I can wait. I've been waiting a long time."

However, just then, the pain Camilia felt was subsiding. It feels...the world is at ease once more.

"...I think it's already been helped. So, uh...I just need to find this book for you, and then you'll show me the shard?"

"Of course," said Fatum. "I warn you, though, that the book can create... Rather maddening illusions. But that shouldn't be a problem for you, should it?"

"It's three hundred yards to the north," said Fatum. "Colonel will go with you."

"Oh, if you insist," said the strange not-statue from before, suddenly opening his eyes.

Fatum turns to Colonel and stares at him for a while before beckoning him closer. He then whispers something into Colonel's ear as Colonel nods.

"Colonel and Viv will be your main companions," said Fatum. "Though of course, you will recieve aid from... lesser workers, let's say."

"Come on," said Colonel. "The book won't be there forever."

Colonel walked out of the temple, heading north.

Camilia took a deep breath - she wasn't sure if she could entirely trust these folks, but they're her only lead for now. So, she followed Colonel north.

The trek back to Fatum's makeshift temple is uneventful. As Camilia, Viv, and Colonel enter, Fatum just stares at them.

"Welcome back," said Fatum. "I trust there were no problems along the way?"

"None we couldn't overcome," said Colonel. "I got your book."

Colonel pulled out the book and looked ready to toss it over.

"NO!" shouted Fatum. "Do not damage the Dark Prognosticus! Who knows what would happen if you did?"

Colonel just brought the book over to Fatum and gently laid it down.

"Camilia," said Fatum. "You've done well, my dear. I would tell you where your piece was as a reward, but you already know where it is, don't you?"

The "Dark Prognosticus" part was unfortunately a blur in Camilia's ears - she's still got a bit before she recovers from this numbing trip.

"U-h...w-h-a...? W-a-s t-h-e-r-e s-o-m-e-t-h-i-n-g I m-i-s-s-e-d...?"

"Nothing major, my dear," said Fatum. "Just the key to my full power returning... and the end of the world!"

Fatum opens the book, revealing all sorts of runes that look like gobbledygook to the untrained eye. Colonel and Viv run over to Fatum and look at it.

"... I can't read in this state!" said Viv. "My bad!"

"I can't read this, period," said Colonel. "What do those runes even say?"

Fatum chuckles lightly before bursting into full-on laughter - more full of loathing than mirth.

"Master?" asked Colonel.

"These are not the runes detailing the end of the world," said Fatum. "These are pictures of happy cats! The book is a fake!"

Colonel cracks his knuckles again.

"So..." said Colonel. "Your little dragon friend led us to the wrong book?"

"Don't be absurd!" said Fatum. "Look at her! She's barely aware of what's in front of her face - how could she have known the book was fake? She didn't even know what the book was until now!"

Fatum collects himself.

"I apologize for wasting your time, my dear," said Fatum. "If there is anything I can do to make it up to you, anything at all, name it."

"H-a-p-p-y c-a-t-s? E-n-d o-f t-h-e...?" None of this made sense to Camilia's dazed hearing. It was just starting to recover, though. "...Anything? Well...do you know of any place where another shard is? Any place I don't know of?"
