Introduction
The biggest forest between the two nations is enchanted, you can walk for five minutes and end up fifty miles away. The stream running through it is poisoned with Deadwater: black water that can kill any living thing that touches it. The poison is what keeps commoners away from the war. Most of the Earth at this time is polluted, so water in a stream could be any color in the world. The commoners, not knowing any better, attempt to wade across it, and die. Escaped commoners living in the forest are trying to clear the stream of harm.
The Hex have technology to give people certain visions that someone they love is in mortal danger. The people receiving them run over to help them and end up right where the Hex want them. The visions can be fought against, with special training.
The Hexes have an overpopulation problem, and they don't have enough food for everyone. Only kids of rich Hexes can go to school, where they learn about how the technology is made and works. Poorer Hexes are not taught how to make the technology, for fear that they will use it for a rebellion. Most of the Hexes fear their leader, Hexadecimal. Every molecule of her data is stored in every computer in the Hex nation. If Hexadecimal is killed and even one computer is left un-destroyed, it will be able to re-create her. She has a chip implanted near her heart, which will notify all the computers if she dies.
The Mages have very different life. Every single kid MUST go to school. About 1 out of twenty kids is an elemental and has to go to the training academy. It is a social norm to fight in the war, that is, if you are normal. You can get out of it, with a few dirty looks. But unless you escape, if you are elemental, YOU ARE GOING TO FIGHT. There is no way around it. You are forced to. Every parent in the Mage nation is expected to teach them a simple spell. They are expected to have learned it by age five. If they cannot do it, they are put in special school for a year. If they still can't do it they are deemed an elemental.
So who will you be? A lowly commoner looking for a better life? A fugitive trying to stay alive? Or a power hungry leader? The choice is yours.

"Don't you just love that magic smell?" she says sarcastically.
"Get used to it because they will never let us escape," I say.
It is true, few elemental mages can escape this place without being caught. I've tried, I was in the woods for about 2 weeks. I was caught and taken back to the school. We graduate from this school at age 18, they need to make sure that we are "ready" to fight in the war. Why do we need to fight in this war? I ask that question quite often and I always get the same answer.
"Oh Samantha, there are many things about this world that you don't understand!"

"What's that?" sneered Robert. "Another LOVE NOTE?" "Shut up," I mumbled. I didn't pay any attention. He's always bugging me. "What's wrong, Lord of Death? Have a fight with your GIRLFRIEND?" I didn't say anything. There were only five minutes left until my next class. Some reason I needed to open the letter in private. I ran back to my dorm.
I sat on the edge of my bed and slowly unfolded the letter. ATTENTION, LUCKY FIGHTERS!!" It said. I read on: You have been chosen to be specially trained by Mr. Jon Whitebane. We believe you deserve extra training and challenge. You are one of the 10 students selected for the elite squad. We believe you will benefit the Mage nation and help us WIN THE WAR!"
"WHAT?!!" my mind screams. "I'll never escape if I'm in an elite squad! And with Whitebane? I'll be CRUSHED! How did I get chosen?!"
"Stihdnaguk!" I yell and I am teleported to the dorms.
I run into Hades's dorm, I need to know what that letter said. When I walk into the dorm I hear him yell. He isn't happy about what that letter said. Maybe it said that he must fight in the war now? I brush my bright red hair with my fingers. Hades is a pretty cool guy, but his powers are horrible. It's like he has no control over them. He is always being bullied, I don't even know his real name. I can never talk to him because he is always being bullied and everybody thinks that we are dating. I open the door to his dorm.
"What happened, Hades?" I say quietly, I am so shy. i wish that I could just talk to people that i don't know.
I rush down the stairs, headed to her dorm. My fingers touch the metal banister and I feel a shock. "Static," I think. Then it hits me: there is no static in the mage nation. It has been blocked ever since the war started. I've been in the mage nation all my life. That leaves me with two questions: How do I know about static? And why is it here?
Hades ran way. I am skipping class. I run as quickly as I can, I am not allowed to use magic without permission. I reach Magic Control Class. I sit at my seat without a word.
"Why are you late Samantha?" says Mr. Hudson.
I don't speak, teachers know that I am shy. I can only think about Hades and the elite squad. A magical letter appears on my desk. I have never received one before, letters are sent by important people. Another one appears on my desk, too. I open the first one and it says:
"Samantha Jones: you have the best magical ability in this whole school and with good training, you will be the best. You will be trained by Whitebane and made into the best elemental mage in the world. You are an earth elemental, so you have special abilities because of your rare element. We hope that you will do great fighting against the hex in this war!"
I open the next letter and I am frightened.
"Samantha Jones: Hello, it's mommy and I am sending my weekly letter. Your little sister is missing you and she wants to see you one day. I also wanted to let you know that you asked about your father and if he was an elemental, I am finally going to answer you. He wasn't an elemental or even a mage. He was a hex, when you were born I ran away and hoped that you were born a mage. Luckily you were and turns out that you were born an elemental. I am sad that i can't see you, but at least you are a mage and I would love you as a hex or a mage."
I start crying, my father was a hex? Why didn't mom tell me that this is the reason why I can't see daddy?Students are staring at me.
"What is that spell, Samantha?"
"Huh?" I say as I look at Mr. Hudson.
Students start laughing at me.
"Zhisxmh, the Arxorl Spell. It was discovered by John Arxorl. It gives you the power to see into the past. " I whisper very quietly.
"That is correct..." says Mr. Hudson while looking very surprised.
I know that spell, it is the one that I use every night to remember my mother. I haven't seen her in so many years. Why isn't Hades at this class, this is the one class that he needs.
"I will grade you all on your ability to keep from leaking magic. This happens when you perform a spell incorrectly and your magic starts leaking out of your pores. Your magic is replenished whenever you sleep, so if you are running out of magic just take a nap." says Mr. Hudson.
I perform the Arxorl Spell flawlessly. Mr. Hudson gives me a nod of approval. I can see my "conversation" with Hades. I look at him, my mind randomly picks a place in time to see. Why did it pick this? I focus on the little necklace that he is wearing. It is a hex necklace! I cant believe it, is he a hex in disguise? I need to go the library. I teleport to the library. I look for books on the hex. I see an old book that looks like it was never opened. I open the book and it shows everything about the hex. I skip to the chapter about that necklace. It says:
" This necklace is the legendary necklace of Hexadecimal. She puts part of herself in every computer and this necklace. Legends say that Hexadecimal had one child and this child was given the necklace. This necklace has been passed on to Hexadecimal's descendant in the present day. That necklace holds part of Hexadecimal herself. If every computer in the world is destroyed, that necklace will save Hexadecimal's life. This is information that only the most trusted hex can know.
How did this school get this book if it is only for the most trusted hex and is Hades really a descendant of Hexadecimal? Wouldn't that make him a HEX?
The footsteps grow closer.
What to do?
I hear Whitebane opening another door. Voices drift past me. "The headmaster needs to see you." "Why?" "It is known that you have attempted escape." "N-no," "Do not lie to me, Maria." Maria? She's the quietest girl in the school, and the most afraid, too. No one would expect her to run away. "Are conditions this desperate?" I thought aloud. Then I see an old, word library book on the floor. "For Hexes Only," it says. I reach to pick it up. Inside, it has a Table of Contents, with chapters like "Hex Heirachy," "Hexadecimal" and "Teleportion Machines." I flip to the part about Hexadecimal. There is a page about her decendants, that's interesting. I read on. Hexadecimal is immortal," it said. "Her data is stored in every computer in the nation, plus a special necklace, given to her desendants. No more is known about this." Below, it had a picture of a necklace.
MY NECKLACE!
Written by: Gridnet Narvils, Jo Natheken, Koko Omanylina, and Elizabeth Jones.
This book was written by these Mage spies who have put all of their effort into finding out about the hex.
I remember now, my mother is a spy. She is training my little sister to be a spy, too. My mother wrote this book. It says that descendants of Hexadecimal can only have one child in their lifetime to insure that Hexadecimal has only one descendant alive at a time although she is immortal. I need to read this book when I am being trained by Whitebane, this book could save my life. It has everything about the hex. It says that some hex can put their data into a computer, but Hexadecimal can put her data into every computer in the world and a necklace. There is something interesting on this page! It says that some mages buy baby hexes to help with the underpopulation. Hexes have no magical ability, so they are often put into elemental schools. Is there a hex in this school?! When elemental mages perform spells and they leak magic. If a non-elemental is exposed to the magical air, they will gain elemental powers. These powers have no specific element and are completely uncontrollable. The unfortunate person who has this happen to them will never have control over their power and will have this curse forever.
This sounds familiar, uncontrollable magic, no specific element... HADES!!
When Hades first got into this school, he had to take the test to see what element he is. He couldn't control his magic, so the people assumed that he just wan't trained correctly and they deemed him a fire elemental for the time being. Nobody knows what element he really is. I hear Maria getting in trouble, I am too far away to hear her, but I know trouble when I hear it. I start running and I see Hades.
"Hades, yes or no. Are you a hex?!"
I see Whitebane and he is telling me to pack my necessities. I run to my dorm and look around. I have to share my dorm with Lucy, it is all pink because of her decorating. She even made all of my clothes pink! I change into a pink blouse and a pink skirt, I am getting tired of this color. I brush my long, red hair. I pack all of my clothes and the hex book. What else do I really need? I grab a small photo of my mother and sister. They sent me this photo last year so that I can see them. Being trained by Whitebane will make me the best earth elemental mage ever! This is exactly what I wanted to be, right? Even when I was 5 years old, I knew what I wanted to be. I still want to be in the high council and be the high earth elemental mage. If I try hard I might be the next leader of the mage nation. I could change the world and stop the war. I am finally ready to go. I teleport to the courtyard and Whitebane is there. I am ready to be trained to be the best mage ever, even if it is a horrible experience.
Hades decided to give this training thing a chance. It could help him control his powers! He read the back of the letter. It told him to grab necessities and report to the off campus training site. He teleported to his dorm and grabbed 2 changes of clothes. He also brought his journal. It was for writing down important things, so if someone tried to edit the facts that no one could truly remember he could prove what really happened. At this school, you really needed something like that. He finished packing and walked off to the training. He saw that Samantha was already there. Whitebane was offering her a charm that would help her do spells more easily, but warned her that at a time it would stop working and then she would have trouble doing spells. Whitebane offered a charm to Hades, and he accepted it. He could worry about the future later. For now, well, he couldn't be trained if he couldn't control his powers. The first thing they had to do was the Elemental Spell. It was a simple spell that really had no practical use, except for proving you were an elemental. For fire it summoned a small spark, for water it created a drop of water, for air it created a tiny gust of wind, and for earth it created dirt in the Mage's hand. For Spirit (which there is no one alive that is Spirit but logical proof shows that it is a possibility to be Spirit), it could give someone a certain emotion for a brief time. It was good exercise in magic however. Samantha went first and did it. But when it was Hades' turn, he couldn't do it right, because he had no definite element. The result was sort of muddy wind that caught on fire a huge mess. Hades was very ashamed.
"Hades can have the horse, I don't need it." I say confidently.
I wonder what we are going to have to do now.
I'll use the horse. I never do magic if I can help it. This needs to change. I'm sure Whitebane would want me to try teleportion. I consider this. However I have never ridden a horse before, and I really want to try it, plus if Whitebane is traveling by horse, that is much slower than teleportion. If he's leading the way how will I know where to teleport to? So I choose the black horse. We start off down the road. It soon becomes a dirt path, and that leads way to brambles. Whitebane seems to be doing ok, but my horse's legs are scrathed up, and he is moving at a crawl pace. I wonder where we are going.
looks like someone was trying to get to my dorm recently. I wonder who it was, since all of my friends knew i was in detention for the last week. wait, there's something on the ground. it looks like a necklace, but i'm not sure. i take it inside and do a scan for potential threats. seems to be hex affiliated, but otherwise harmless. i wonder whose it is...
Jon looked at the two he looked at the girl she depended on magic too much which would do her poorly when she deals with some Hex technology along with some ancient grounds. He looked at the boy who seemed to struggle with both magic and any other form of combat. He led them far away it was fairly quick since Jon had Hades horse stay behind his the whole time. He took them to some plains that laid just below a couple of mountains he got off his horse and walked a distance away from the young elementals he stood his ground. He looked at them both "Attack me give me every thing you have don't hold back anything is permitted." he had the necessary skills to hold them off but this was to see how far they have gotten and to check which one needs more attention. Jon drew his sword and drove it into the ground next to him.
