a character in “Last Paradise Island”, as played by Hodgic

Description

Name: Kevin Malborne
Age: 16
Gender: male
Hometown: Shalour City, Kalos region

Appearance: Kevin has black slightly messy hair that isn't more than an inch long. His body is well built for his age, and his skin healthy. His eyes are reddish-brown. Kevin is right at 5 feet tall and still growing. He wears dark grey cargo shorts that are just longer than his knees with pockets on the front of each thigh which are kept closed with a button down cover. His tan shirt is partly covered by his long sleeve shirt that is open in the front. The long sleeve shirt has a folded down collar that is red, a breast pocket on the right side with a button down red cover. The sleeves are sloppily rolled up, showing the red lining of the shirt. His tennis shoes are black with red at the toes and soul of the soe. A specialized strap is attached on both ends to the belt he wears on his left hip; this strap is designed to securely hold up to six balls for a trainers Pokemon team. Kevin always has his black backpack to carry around pretty much everything he would need for his journey.

Personality: Kevin is usually very calm and go with the flow. He even let's his Pokemon decide if they want to be in their Pokeballs or not when travelling around. The only things that seem to excite him are fun battles. Although any battle is fun for Kevin; whether he wins or loses, it doesn't matter to him. Most of the time it is easy to get along with Kevin, although he doesn't seem to know how to go easy in anything, be it battling or general training. Kevin is usually prepared for any situation. When it comes to Pokemon he usually has a good eye for every aspect of them; though that partly came from the knowledge of breeding his family has. Kevin can even tell how good a Pokemon would be for breeding and could tell you how to breed for a specific quality even. You could almost call his knowledge of Pokemon masterful; although he would always deny it and say that is his sister, not him. When camping for the night during travels Kevin always lets his Pokemon out of their Pokeballs to use as a time to bond with them.

History: Kevin's parents were breeders and know a special technique to get shiny Pokemon. They let no one know the secret to having shiny Pokemon hatch and keep it a family secret. Even though Kevin knows this secret he chose not to take over the family business unlike his younger sister. Due to their skills with breeding the family was given one ticket to Paradise Island, and once Kevin came home for a visit he was given the ticket. Since Kevin was the only official trainer of the family he was the only one allowed to go. Before leaving for the ferry he took on and beat Korrina, who gave him a Mega stone for when his Metang evolved into a Metagross; in addition he got his Mega Ring.

Pokemon
Species: Greninja
Nickname: Blast
Gender: Male
Special appearance: Blast is a shiny Greninja; thus he has a black body with white spots and a red tongue. Other than that is just like your average Greninja.

Personality: Blast is just like Kevin in every way. Many think it is part of the reason he and Kevin get along so well.

History: Greninja was Kevin's starter Pokemon he got from his parents. They have been together through everything. Blast was hatched shortly after Kevin was born and the two have been impossible to separate ever since.

Species: Crobat
Nickname: Dash
Gender: Male

Special appearance: Dash's left set of wings each have a small cut on them. This was from when he was a wild Zubat before Kevin ever saw him. It does not seem to affect his ability to fly though.

Personality: Dash is kind but protective. He is always out of his Heal Ball which he was originally caught in. It is common for him to hang onto Kevin's right shoulder when traveling. The two of them are really close due to Kevin caring for him in a way no human or Pokemon had even done before. Blast always walks beside Kevin when traveling.

Ability: Infiltrator

Stats
HP: 312 (31 IV and 4 EV)

This was Kevin's second Pokemon, not long after setting out with Blast. After some time together Zubat evolved into a Golbat; he became a Crobat not long after that.

Species: Dusknoir
Nickname: Grim
Gender: Female
Special appearance: N/A

Personality: Grim is a very playful Pokemon; always having fun with people when she can. She is also very innocent and easily embarrassed. Although when the time calls for it she is very motherly. Due to when Grim was obtained she commonly shows her motherly side towards Kevin and Blast. Even though they don't always like it Grim does this they both know it is due to her kind heart.

Ability: Pressure

Although since Grim was holding a Reaper Cloth when she was pulled from her Pokeball she evolved. This trade happened less than a week before Kevin's mom went into labor to have him. When Kevin came home the day he was given the ticket Grim refused to let him leave without her.

Species: Metang (later Metagross)
Nickname: Blue

Tulip bounced off of the ferry, looking around. She was so excited! She hadn't been too far from her hometown before, and only had stories her older brother had told her. But he had never been to this island, so that wasn't much help. She searched around again. Wasn't she supposed to be doing something now? ...Oh, right; checking in. It seemed pointless, but she knew they didn't want any bad people sneaking in. Still, it seemed rather unnecessary to her. She hesitated. It was crowded, and there were a lot of people waiting. She sighed, but grinned, giving Flare a tight, brief squeeze. She liked to carry the Vulpix, and Flare seemed to enjoy being carried. She was glad she had kept Star in his pokeball, though; in a crowded area like this, she was afraid he'd get lost. She hesitated, seeing a Greninja. She had seen one before, but not with those colors. Shiny? Maybe. But...did it belong to the trainer with the Crobat? Strange; most people would only keep one out of a pokeball at once, unless it was feeding time for them. She doubted that, though. She shrugged, heading towards the receptionist area, trying her best not to bump into people, and failing often.

"Sorry!" she apologized, over and over, after bumping into so many others.

"Sorry!" Kevin heard after someone bumped into him. "Not a worry," a smile accompanied Kevin's assurance, just before he went up to the desk. He handed the clerk his Pokedex and ferry ticket along with stating the Pokemon he was bringing with him. As the lady was making sure everything checked out Kevin looked over to the one that bumped into him moments before. Giving a better look now he saw that she had a Vulpix in her arms. "She is kinda cute," Kevin thought as the reception lady handed Kevin's credentials back.

"Make sure to keep both your ticket and Pokedex with you while on the island. It will make things easier if they need to look you up for any reason." As the receptionist said this Kevin nodded and continued passed the entry gate as the lady called for the next person.

"Well guys, what should we do first?" Before Kevin's Pokemon could answer a guy came up to him that was on the same ferry Kevin came on.

"You there! It is time to prove I am a better trainer than you ever will be!" The guy was a little older than Kevin from the looks of it. And he sounded very cocky.

"Fine, could use a little warm up since the ride was so long. Sucks being the furthest region from the island." Dash started to fly now, and Blast straightened up, making him about as tall as Kevin. "How about a double battle, no substitutions; you leave the arena area and your Pokemon is counted as fainted. I'll use my two companions here," Kevin held up two balls hinting he was going to use Pokemon other than the two that were already out.

"Fine by me. Just means a quicker defeat for you!" The guy sent out his two Pokemon, a Pidgeot and Gardevoir. As soon as his Gardevoir came out he Mega evolved it.

"Blast, make a standard sized arena for us to battle inside of." The Greninja instantly used his Ice Beam to make a makeshift standard sized arena for the battle. With a nod Kevin sent out his two Pokemon; a Dusknoir and Metang were his picks. "Let's do this Grim and Blue!"

Someone came up to the arena and pulled out two flags, one red and one white. "I'll be the ref for this match. I heard the rules and also am qualified to be a judge for Pokemon Battles." Once both the cocky guy and Kevin nodded in agreement the ref put his flags up and yelled out for them to begin. Anyone that was starting their processing when this challenge was issued would easily be able to come in at this point. Even so there were already a few spectators for this battle, and the aura (so to speak) that was coming from the competitors was easy to notice.

Tulip sighed as she finally reached the desk. This whole place was a mess; hopefully the rest of the island wasn't the same way. She handed her ferry ticket and, after some searching, her pokedex. Maybe she needed to clear out her bag one of these days. It was always such a mess...but then, ho would she find anything if it wasn't a mess? She nodded as the receptionist advised her to keep them with her at all times. It wasn't like she had intended to leave them anywhere, after all. Those were important; the only reasons she was able to come to this island.

She turned around, looking around. Where to first? But something else grabbed her attention. Was there a battle going on over there? She glanced at Flare, who looked up at her curiously. With a small nod to herself, she made her way towards the battle, occasionally bumping into others along the way. She stopped as soon as she could see the battle. It was one of the people she had bumped into earlier, and someone else, too. She glanced between the two. One looked to be older, but that didn't always matter. It could go either way...though she hoped the winner wasn't the older one. He seemed...far too cocky. That didn't usually end up well.

She looked over the Pokemon curiously, using her pokedex for any Pokemon she didn't recognize. Which was all but the Pidgeot. But she couldn't tell which was stronger. Instead, her thoughts were turned more towards a contest state of mind. Gardevoir was pretty...and Pidgeot wasn't too bad, with suck long, graceful feathers, and even Metang was alright, with a metallic gleam. But Dusknoir would never be her choice in any contest. What did he call them? Grim and Blue? Oh well. She found herself a spot where she could clearly watch the battle, and gave Flare a brief glance.

"Maybe, if we watch, we can learn a few tricks. There aren't any fire types...but any attack could be useful in a contest, when used properly. Pay attention, alright?" she noted to Flare, who nodded eagerly.

"Gardevoir use Shadow Ball on the Dusknoir, Pidgeot use Aerial Ace on the Metang!" As the cocky trainer commanded his pokemon did; however it didn't seem they did as much damage as as one might think they would. However, his Pokemon were extremely fast and still quite strong.

"And this is why I said you wouldn't win on the boat. Blue let's give him a frozen bird after Grim! Grim let's change things up some!" Even though Kevin gave his commands in an unusual way his Pokemon knew exactly what to do. His Dusknoir created what seemed to be a box the was pink when expanding to the size of the arena. At this point it became completely transparent; those that had seen the move before could probably recognize this as the move Trick Room. As soon as this was done Kevin's Metang made its hand very cold and caused it to gloss over with an icy film; this move being able to be recognized as Ice Punch. Even though the Metang didn't look fast earlier it moved so fast now it was hard to keep up with it. Before the Pidgeot could react Blue slammed its claw into the bird's back. This caused it to be knocked out of the air for a moment; the hit clearly was not only super effective but a critical hit. The Pidgeot was left very weak; but could continue on. One more hit though and it was clear it would be out of this battle.

"Pidgeot! Are you okay?" The valiant bird Pokemon responded with a nod of his head, signalling he could still go on. "Good job, now let's get this guy!" Both his Pokemon nodded, though they were all slightly confused on how the Metang moved so fast. And by the looks of it a lot of the crowd had the same question. "Gardevoir use Shadow Ball on the Metang this time! Pidgeot use Feint Attack on the Dusknoir!"

At the same time as his opponent gave the orders Kevin gave his; who moved much faster. "Grim show his Gardevoir the true power of the ghost type!" Grim then moved so fast you could be forgiven for thinking it teleported behind the Gardevoir. In that moment Grim struck the Pokemon with her fist and instantly K.O.ed the Mega Pokemon. Only after the attack was it clear that the Dusknoir used what could be recognized as Shadow Punch. Most people know that a Dusknoir shouldn't be able to reach the speeds that were shown here; though those that know what Trick Room does (and recognized that it was used) would know how it moved so fast. "Good job Grim. Blue make the Pidgeot a star!" With that the Metang's body started to glow and it charged the Pidgeot. Blue left a trail behind it that made it look like a meteor, and it even had the speed of one too. It collided with the Pidgeot, knocking it out; though most would call this overkill since it was so weak already. "As I told you on the boat: there is a difference between training your Pokemon and training with your Pokemon. Now you know how much stronger your Pokemon become when you train with them." Kevin returned his Pokemon to their balls before turning to his other two that were watching the battle. "C'mon, you two ready to go?" His Crobat and Greninja gave a happy looking nod as they followed him to leave from the area.

On the other hand the cocky trainer returned his Pokemon and after a moment of silence rushed towards the Pokemon Center which was clearly marked as to its direction.

As he was leaving Kevin spotted the girl that bumped into him earlier. "Hey there! Did you and your Vulpix enjoy the battle?"

Tulip watched the older traine's Pokemon attacked, but didn't seem to do much to the other two. Well, it already looked like he wasn't doing well, though her brother had said it sometimes helps to get the first move, even if it dodn't look like much. She blinked at the pink box. What was that? Her brother had told her once...Trick Room? If that was thd case, things weren't looking good for the older trainer. But that thought was pushed aside by another one; Trick Room was pink, which made it a little cute, if used properly. It didn't seem to suit the Dusknoir, really. But it helped in the battle.

But she thought it odd he didn't tell the Pokemon which move to use. He almost seemed to give a vague command, and the Pokemon did their best to follow. She knew that probably wasn't right, and that they had probably just been together for a while, and had learned to understand. But she still didn't expect them to move so fast, even with Trick Room in place. And it really didn't seem fair to the Pidgeot to use that muchforce; it had already been weakened, it looked like. But, in the end, she supposed it didn't matter much. The point was, the younger trainer had won, and the battle was over.

She hesitated as the trainer talked to her, but she quickly turned it to a bright smile. Maybe it would help if she wasn't trying to learn everything on her own. Well, her Pokemon were there, but that wasn't really the point.

"We did. It was very exciting...though it seemed to be over fairly quickly. Actually we learned some, too. It was very different from my brother's battles. And I might have a few ideas for our next contest, too," she answered,, looking down at Flare, who nodded and gave a small cry, which she took to be in agreement. She looked back up to Kevin.

"Well...our first contest, technically," she added with a little shrug.

Tulip nodded, taking in what he was telling her. She knew she had to start somewhere; that was what she was doing there, on that island, in the first place. Still, he was only trying to help, so she kept it to herself. It was nice of him to offer advice to a stranger, anyway. And better, he had said it was impressive. Whether he meant that she was a coordinator, or that she didn't seem like one, didn't matter much. She patted Flare's fur, as the Vulpix watched the Greninja that was looking at her.

"My name isTulip, and this is my partner, Flare. We came from the Sinnoh region," she responded with a smile.

Tulip hesitated. She had been hoping she would have someone else to talk with on the island, but hadn't thought he was going to ask. She had thought she would have to ask. She quickly turned the hesitation to a smile. She didn't once notice the slight blush.

"Sure, it would be fun to have company, right, Flare?" she asked, looking down to the Vulpix. Flare let out a small cry of agreement, so Tulip looked back up to Kevin.

"I don't think Star would mind, either. I was hoping someojne wouldn't mind travelling with me, anyway. I'm glad you asked!" she added.

"Before we head out I need to grab some extra supplies from the mart. Need to make sure we have what we need for the journey ahead." Kevin smiled as he gave a wave for Tulip to follow him as he head towards the location of the nearest Pokemart. It wasn't until now that Kevin noticed the eyes watching him. Likely they were thinking something like 'how could such a young trainer be that strong;' though Kevin did he best to ignore the gazes. 'Hopefully these gazes don't bother Tulip too much. I wouldn't want her getting uncomfortable,' Kevin thought as they walked.

Tulip gave Flare a small, light squeeze and a little smile. Well, at least they would have someone along who actually knew what he was doing. She hadn't traveled before, except to wander outside her town for a few hours, and so she didn't have much idea of what she was doing. She hesitated, though, glancing around. People were staring? But she hadn't...oh, wait. The trainer, Kevin; he had won a battle so easily. It was probably just him. Still, it wasn't exactly comfortable. She decided she'd distract herself with conversation.

"I might need to get some things, too. I've never really left home before...I don't know that I have everything that I need for this..."

"I would suggest getting things like pokeballs, potions, and stuff to cure status ailments. In a pinch those will come in handy. I can take care of food and Blast can help us when it comes to water. You want to make sure you have what you need before what you want. If you carry too much you might end up regretting it later." Kevin took a look at the map application he picked up when he was on the ferry to the island. It was quite helpful since it told him where everything was in each city in addition to giving a normal map of the entire island. "The mart should be right around this corner," Kevin said as he turned the corner; the pokemart sign easily seen hanging above the door.

"Let's meet just outside the entrance when we are each done with our shopping." Kevin pulled out a list of items he figured would be useful for the trip, taking a mental note to add some more food to accommodate for more mouths to feed. Luckily he brought plenty of money to last him quite some time, so that wasn't an issue.

Kevin went inside, grabbed a basket, and started looking around. Lucky for him the prices were cheaper than back home so he wouldn't be spending as much as he had originally thought.

  • 10 Ultra Balls
  • 5 Heal Balls
  • 5 Quick Balls
  • 5 Timer Balls
  • 10 Full Restores
  • 15 Super Potions
  • 15 Full Heals
  • 2 weeks worth dehydrated ingredients
  • 1 weeks worth snacks
  • cooking gear
  • 5 Smokeballs
  • 10 packs of fire starters
  • 2 cans of easy fuel

"Well that should be everything. And it looks like I am saving a ton. Might have to stock up before I go home after this whole trip." Kevin went over to the register and paid for his stuff. After stepping outside put everything inside the pack. The pack was just big enough to fit what he got inside. The bottom was separated from the main part to allow the sleeping bag and tent to be pulled out without having to take everything else out. The main part of the pack had a few compartments to allow things to be separated. The different pokeballs balls he got were placed in their own pouches for easy access; same with the Smokeballs. Now he just needed to meet up with his travel companion.

Tulip nodded, heading into the store. She looked around, curious. Her brother hadn't explained much of what she needed, so what Kevin had said helpes out. She had been advised to bring plenty of money, so she knew she was okay with that. But there were so many cute things she didn't need, but wanted. Flare gave her a small nibble to get her moving. Tulip shrugged and started searching. She had never bought these kinds of things, so she wasn't sure if these prices were good or not, but it wasn't like she could risk waiting for a store that might or might not have better prices. She decided she needed to get it over with.

-5 Timer Balls
-10 Pokeballs
-10 Potions
-1 weeks woth of snacks
-10 Full Heals
-1 weeks worth of ingredients

Tulip hoped that would be enough. She searched through the shelves once more, wondering just how much food they would need. There would probably be plenty of berries growing around the island, after all, and those worked in a pinch. She paid for everything she had picked out, and organized them into her bag. She wanted to be able to find everything. Though she was surprised to find just how much her parents had reorganized her bag before she had left home. She had a little space left, but she preferred it that way. Then, even if her bag got messy, she would still be able to fit everything. She gave Flare a light squeeze before heading outside, to wait for her new traveling companion. How lucky was she, to havesomeone who actually knew what he was doing to help her out!

Kevin waved as he saw Tulip walk out of the mart. "Over here," Kevin picked up his pack and strapped it on, making sure he was ready for the trip to come. Once the pack was on he pulled out his Poke'gear and turned to the map app. " According to the map there are a few options from here. One is short but leads to a small town; no gym or compitition locations. The second leads us through or around a mountain. There would likely be more chances to see various pokemon and it leads us to a gym and compitition hall. The last one is pretty flat and leads to another town that apparently has a really good tourist location. And according to the extra info here there will be a festival starting about when we get there.

(Sorry for the short post. I am on my cell and will be back on my computer in about 4 weeks.)
