♛NAME♛
Riven Seylum

AGE
Unknown, she appears to be fourteen but acts a lot younger.

NICKNAMES
Doll || A sort of pet name most of the hunters use because her appearance seems to be that of a porcelain doll.

Rei || There is no story behind this one. It is a nickname ones who are too lazy to say her actual name use.

The Princess of the North || It is no secret that she is Princess Seylum, rumored to have died long ago.

The Blood Stained Sword || This was how the humans knew her, as nothing more than a weapon of mass destruction.

SEXUALITY
Pansexual

ROLE
Vampire working with hunters

HEIGHT
As tall as she was the year she was bitten.

WEIGHT
Same weight too.

HAIR COLOR
Her hair is a long, silky, cotton candy pink. You can usually find her locks tied up in two some pigtails, with the rest hanging down her back.

EYE COLOR
A delicious candy apple red.

GENERALX APPEARANCE

Riven has never believed that she is anything special, although others would beg to differ. The young vampire has a gorgeous milky white complexion that has not even the tiniest of blemishes. Her eyes are a vivacious red that seem to pop in contrast of her skin and she has hair so long that should Riven not tie it up she is able to sit on it. In every aspect Riven is the image of perfection, if not for her short height and small stature. Should you look inside her mouth you would find sparkling teeth and a set of fangs that are sharp enough to slice through the toughest of skin. Pointed fairy like ears are attached to the sides of her head and if it weren't for the fangs one might joke that she could be mistaken for an elf.
Unlike other hunters, Riven wears what she wants. Normally it is a dress with detachable bell sleeves and a bow type collar with a bell so that the hunters can keep track of her. As for shoes Riven prefers boots, she has a long thigh high set that she pairs with her dresses. Ironically enough the vampire's favorite colors happen to be black and red.

LoudEasily AmusedCleverSneaky UnpredictableAlways HungryEasily Angered

___For such a small thing, Riven sure hosts a range of emotions. You have to be careful with her for Riven is quite sneaky, she always seems to have some sort of trick up her sleeve and is constantly attempting to escape since she has realized they are trying to use her to kill other vampire's. The hunters will not allow Riven to leave, often threatening her with death if she doesn't cooperate with them. This is why Riven seems perpetually angry when really, she's just annoyed her freedom was taken so easily from her. Riven is actually quite compatible and very easy to get along with. The girl is constantly bored though, so she is easily amused when fights start up or when she's needed. Other vampires see her as a traitor due to the fact that she is technically assisting in their demise. Some might say it is for reasons of self preservation, as long as Riven does what she's told she'll get to keep on living. Riven only sticks around because she has to and quite often she'll sabotage the hunter's plans and feign innocence.

LIKES

❥ Midnight || Riven is a day walker, she just prefers the darkest time of night.
❥ Flowers || Especially roses, she loves their unusual aroma.
❥ Cake and Sweets || Riven is a bit unusual in the sense that she can tolerate human food, to most vampires it simply tastes like ash. She cannot derive nourishment from human food, however, and will normally throw up a few minutes after eating because her body cannot tolerate it.
❥ Blood || O- is her absolute favorite, she considers it a delicacy but if it is not available she'll take whatever you have.

Image
Image

DISLIKES

⌦ Being Interrupted || If Riven is doing something and you interrupt her she will snap at you. It is one of her greatest pet peeves.
⌦ Eyeballs || Other vampires consider them to be the chewing gum of the vampire world. Riven is repulsed by the sight of them.
⌦ Chains || Due to the fact that she was in chains for so long they fused to her wrists and so she wears long sleeves to cover the hideous pieces of metal. The alternative would be cutting off her hands and waiting for them to grow back, but she has no desire to do such an ugly thing.

STRENGTHS

Killing || It was a bit of a lie when Riven said she hated death. She actually enjoys the hunt all too much, the dying screams are music to her ears.
Transformation || Riven's main ability is to turn into the weapon of her user's choice. She is also very experienced in turning into a bat.
Sabotage || Riven is very good at getting what she wants. If not she will "accidentally" sabotage your plans.
Dancing || Especially in the rain, or down the hall, or anywhere really.

WEAKNESSES

Heart break || Riven can die if you crush her heart and scatter the pieces. This seems to be the only known method of demise.
Crosses || Vampires are unholy beings and while they can't kill her, they can certainly hurt her.
Holy water || Don't even put that stuff near her! Riven was once kidnapped by a human who was convinced they could turn her back if they doused her in holy water.
Fire || A weakness in the unusual sense that Riven is terribly afraid of fire. It can no longer hurt her, but she still hates it.

QUIRKS
Mumbling || Twirling hair || Biting right thumb nail || Never sleeping || Eating human food || Hates eyeballs

FEARS
Fire || Holy water || Stakes || Being a scapegoat || Cellphones || Cars || Cages || Being confined in small spaces for long periods of time || Being chained up

POWER
Riven's power is a variation of shape shifting. She can turn into a usable and durable weapon for combat, offense, and fighting purposes. There are two sides to this, Riven can either become a fully wield able weapon, or she can turn certain body parts into weapons such as growing claws or horns. This is also called natural weaponry.

LIMITATIONS
Unfortunately there are many downsides to this. When using natural weaponry it doesn't take as much, but the transformation takes a bit and leaves Riven vulnerable. When turning into a full weapon, however, it is instantaneous. The time limit is about an hour, any longer and it could kill her. It takes a lot out of Riven and can take her days to recover, the shorter she is a full weapon for, the better. In this form Riven goes into a half sleep state. Her mind is still very much awake, but her body is not her's to control. However Riven cannot communicate with anyone beside the wielder so if he abandons her to run for his life she won't know to turn back.

❧ ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
FAMILY
Riven comes from a complex past. Her family were poor farm workers, slaving away in the hot sun, dreaming of a better life when an announcement was made that every eligible girl would be brought forth to the Duke to be evaluated for marriage. Biding for a better future, her family escorted her to the Duke's home, where she waited with all of the other eligible girls. In a stroke of good fortune, the Duke chose Riven to be his bride. They were to be wed by the end of the week. The evening before the wedding, the house was set alight. The vampires had come to enact revenge on the Duke that had killed one of their own. Riven was the sole survivor. She crawled out of the ruins, covered in ash and burns. King Seylum, recognizing her strength, bit her.
When Riven awoke, she was distraught; riddled with survivors guilt. She was supposed to give her family a better life, instead, she had killed them all. Riven refused to drink blood, she remained in her chambers, taking no visitors. She did not want to live this life of immortality, not without her family. In order to revitalize her will to live, King Seylum erased Riven's memory of her past. He told her she had been in an accident and had lost her memory, nothing more. Upon discovering her power to turn into powerful weapons, he equipped her, recognizing her usefulness. Riven rose through the ranks, developing a thirst for murder and a taste for blood. She slaughtered countless, the screams of the dying becoming music to her ears. It was on one of these hunting trips that King Seylum was murdered by hunters. Riven narrowly escaped with her life and was named heir to the Seylum fortune. Now in a position of power, she was invited to meet with other vampires, learning more of their secrets.
Riven was tired of fighting and bloodshed and war, without the King, it was never the same. She vacated her home, turning the mansion into a house for wayward vampires who needed a hot meal and warm bed. She let her staff come and go as they pleased and decided to take a trip, to visit the vampires of old and new, across the world. She was only a month in when she was kidnapped from her hotel. A crazed man believed that he could restore vampires to their human selves. He dragged Riven to a shed behind his home, where he chained Riven and gave her regular baths in holy water. He stabbed crosses into, over and over again, and would force garlic down her throat. His methods were unusual. The man even attempted to summon the devil to return her soul. In a weakened state, the man left her, locking the shed and never returning. Riven waited, her body going into a deep sleep in order to preserve itself.
She slept for more than a century.
When Riven awoke, it was because part of the shed had collapsed inwards, nearly crushing her. Pinned by chains and swimming in debris, Riven began to cry for help, hoping that someone would hear her calls.

|| Until I throw away my dreams and become an adult || rachie ||

With a satisfying crunch, Baron Wernicke's soul piece was ground into dust by Gavyn's own foot. Baron Wernicke had a long resume of success in his life. He survived London during the Third Impact, escaping from the wrath of the Tower Society's London Branch. He made it to Baron Messiah in Berlin and trained for years so that he could be strong, so that he could avenge all the fallen demons of London. Purjura, Wizar, Amore - even his own clutch of eggs from his now deceased spouse, they had been destroyed and taken in for research by the imbomidable Addison LaFleur. And not it was all over, with nothing to show for it but two vampire girls and powdery dust scattered across the floor.

After Gavyn left, Riven's hold didn't lighten up in the slightest as she explained the transition for them. "I don't think the senses being heightened will be too bad for us." Elise explained with an expressionless smile, one without joy. She seemed different somehow. Viola looked at her hand, wondering if she too seemed different to them all. "We're used to boosting our bodies, and that includes our senses." By sacrificing blood they could surpass the senses of vampires. But now they had no choice and would suffer this normal sense from now on, as vampires. "It feels empty." Elise explained, knowing Vi didn't really have the words for it like she did. "Before... I felt full of life. But now I feel like a hallway devoid of human and soul, accumulating dust, all alone."

"I wanted you to stay human." Julia whispered, staring pathetically at Viola. "But then you were turned into a monster. And now, you're a vampire, living a horrid existence, just like me. Just like them. I couldn't save you." It was too late now, wasn't it? "I love you, I think." It was hard to really feel anything right now other than... strange. "Thanks for... saving me, Riven." Julia stalked off, no doubt to cry all on her own. Viola felt something that must be a pang but she pulled her hand back. Just like before, it was like physical pain watching Julia go out of sight. They were sisters, weren't they?

Suddenly, Oliver spoke up. "Riven, can you kill Jacob and Dom too?" He asked seriously. "If you don't... they might become demons. They're better off as vampires. I don't want them to become like me." Riven was given the choice now, to kill and bring them back the same way the girls had been. "Um..." Jacob raised his hand, looking nervous. "I get that it's the best decision, but I'm not sure if I'm ready?" Oliver shrugged. "You'll probably never be ready. Let's go somewhere less open, shall we?" The parlor seemed to be their favorite place, so naturally, they returned there. Everything had changed in an instant. It was still strange how something like this could happen. "Am I beautiful now?" Vi asked, still in a bit of a daze.

Riven nodded, "It's not emptiness per say," she spoke softly. She felt horrible, of course. "It wasn't supposed to happen like this," it was merely a whisper, lost over Julia's mournful sobbing. She had never wanted this for Viola, but this was what Viola had always wanted. She had achieved her goal at last, so what would the former hunter do now? Riven didn't know. "I'm sorry," Riven rose to her feet as Viola drew back. She wasn't sure if it was fear or something else. "You're not alone," Riven felt too afraid to take Elise's hand, to reassure her. "You have all of us," she tried to smile, but it was pained. "It does take some getting used to." It wasn't as though vampires were invincible, sure they were immortal, but it was conditional.

They could be killed with silver, garlic was the equivalent of mustard gas, and holy water was like acid against their skin. Yes, vampires had many weaknesses, but not as many as humans. Viola thanked her, but it was weak, tepid. Riven was certain that somehow, Viola didn't mean it. "Yes, let's go to the parlor." Riven agreed, leading them all there. Slaine arrived with breakfast, putting out trays of both human and vampire foods. "I've lived like this for five hundred years, surely you can withstand five minutes?" She attempted to joke. Oliver wanted Dominic and Jacob to become vampires, but they weren't ready. "I want it to be on your own terms," Riven agreed. "It may seem like a good idea now, but I don't want you resenting me for turning you against your will."

Viola wanted to know if she was beautiful, Riven produced a mirror at her request, one that vampires could see themselves in. "There are changes," Riven confirmed. Viola's skin was smoother, paler, her eyes were red now, a trademark of vampires. Her teeth were pointed, her nails longer. Elise too, had the same changes after becoming a vampire. She was examining her reflection in the window, touching her new fangs. "You should drink," Riven indicated to the pitcher of blood. "It might seem gross at first, but the flavor isn't bad, I promise." She handed each of them a cup of blood. Jacob and Dominic seemed uneasy. Oliver stood against the wall, his arms crossed. Things had changed and Riven felt wholly at fault. "I'm sorry," she whispered, "This is all my fault." The vampire shook her head, "Julia was right, it was a mistake to bring you all here. You should have remained there, where you would have been safe."

Jacob hit her lightly over the head. "Are you stupid? You said it yourself, if we had stayed there, we would have died. I would be crippled, Elise would be blind, Viola would have never ending blood pouring out of her wrists." He listed, grabbing Riven's neck to bring her close to him. "We don't hate you Riven, in fact, I can finally sleep in! Eat what I want, no one is bossing me around. I don't have to fight stupid fights that I want nothing to do with. This is great!" He grinned, no doubt enjoying the one place where he was never compared to his brother. Here, he didn't need to be as strong or as smart as Christopher, he was his own person, no longer living in his brother's shadow.

"Who hurt you?" Lipidus grasped her wrists gently. Echo looked down, they were bleeding. Lipidus had been with Iflet on another mission, out fighting the human hoard. There was blood on the bed, Echo was writhing in pain, but shaking her head, she would not tell. "Nova," Lipidus's tone hardened. Echo whimpered and his grip on her softened. "You're going to have to tell me," he rose, going to the bathroom to draw a bath. Echo's lower lip trembled as tears dotted her eyes. "Stop crying!" He raised a hand, the demon curling up into a ball to prepare herself. Lipidus sighed, he couldn't hit her, she was too... pathetic. "You're not the Nova I knew," Echo shook her head, she was not Nova, she had been trying to tell him this, this entire time. "N-not N-n-nova," she stuttered as Baron Lipidus lifted her up and undressed her. He dropped Echo into the bath, her screams filling the room. The hot water stung her wounds, she attempted to crawl out, but Lipidus pushed her back in.

"No, you need to get clean, you're covered in blood." Echo whimpered, going limp as she resigned to her fate. Baron Lipidus scrubbed her clean, then he dried her off with a fluffy towel and wrapped the open wounds in bandages. "Why isn't your healing factor kicking in?" All demons had it, it allowed them to recover from minor wounds. The Baron took out a new gown, shimmying it over Echo's head as she cried in pain. "Stay here," he ordered, leaving her to sit on the bathroom floor. He returned with two pills and water. Echo stiffened, attempting to make herself smaller. "This will make the pain stop," he sat down on the floor, patiently forcing them into Echo's mouth and making her swallow. The trembling started again almost instantly.

"It's not Flo," Lipidus hugged Echo against his chest, "it's just pain medicine." He handed her the water, which sloshed out of the sides of the cup. He sighed and held it still and made her drink slowly. "P-pee," Echo managed to stutter, to which he lifted her dutifully onto the porcelain throne. It was progress, considering Echo had simply been peeing where she lay in bed, unable to access the bathroom on her own. He was gentle as he wiped and pulled her underwear back up. He carried Echo to the couch and placed her down. There were no televisions here, but Lipidus had a cell phone. He remembered that Nova liked books and had brought her some, but they simply lay open on the ground, unread.

"Do you want to try to eat again?" He asked, uncovering the tray of food. It was just steamed vegetables, no meat, he had made certain of it. Echo shook her head warily as Lipidus held up a carrot, "come on." Echo shook her head, hiding her face. It looked like a finger, it looked like Flo's finger. "Why not?" Lipidus asked, but Echo only shook her head. He grabbed the phial she wore around her neck, yanking it off. "Eat it," he demanded. "It's just a carrot," he was growing impatient with her fragility. "N-no," Echo coughed, beginning to sob again. "Eat it!" He shoved the carrot in her face, holding the vial with the other hand. She reached for it, weak, desperate to get it back.

"P-please," she begged breathlessly. "Th-that's m-my fri-friend," it slid from his fingers, hitting the ground and shattering. "Oops," Lipidus ground his heel against the pieces. " Her eyes widened, she fell off of the couch, fingers scrounging in an attempt to collect the pieces. She reached for a cup to put them in, but Lipidus moved the tray out of reach. "She's dead Nova!" He barked as Echo clutched the pieces she had managed to save. "And you're going to be too if you keep acting like this!" But Echo didn't care, she rocked herself, holding the remainder of her friend against herself. Anger clouded his mind, he wrenched her fist open. "N-no!" Echo cried, attempting to crawl after him, glass dug into her palm from the empty phial, but she didn't care. He threw open the bathroom door, flushing the remainder of the soul piece down the toilet.

Her hands slipped out from underneath her, her entire body felt suddenly devoid of energy. "You're weak," he pushed Echo down further easily, his foot against her chest. She couldn't breathe, he was going to crush her. He grasped her by the front of her dress, walking over to the balcony. "You should just die," Echo didn't resist as he held her over the railing. Two had fallen to their deaths earlier today, he would make it three. He would do it. His grip tightened, Echo's eyes were wide and frightened, if he didn't know any better, he would have thought that there was also a dash of hope. His grip on her tightened once more, he brought her in close, shutting the balcony door.

"You idiot," he whispered, setting her down gently on the bed. She seemed frozen, numb. Lidpidus wrapped a blanket around her shoulders and rose. "I'm not going to kill you."

❝One day we'll look at the sky and think that it was a wonderful day.❞

|| Until I throw away my dreams and become an adult || rachie ||

Is this what all vampires felt like? This strange feeling that Elise called emptiness. Viola wasn't smart enough, she didn't know the right word for this feeling. It was like a pressure in her chest that just wouldn't go away, no matter what she did or said. Emptiness was a decent word, but Riven didn't seem to think it was the most accurate of choices. Another word... "Dread?" Viola tried, trying to make sense of the numb all around her. Before she was full of emotions - she felt joy, despair, love. "Dull?" The boys all looked worried, but right now here wasn't the best place to talk about things. She was supposed to feel guilt for what she did to Elise, but she didn't really feel any of that. It was so odd.

The parlor felt a bit more comfortable at least. "I'll be fine." Viola assured Riven, not catching the joke like she would have been able to do before. "It's just a weird change." For someone who so wanted to become a vampire, she sure didn't seem all that prepared now that it had become a reality. "You seem like a whole new person, Jacob." Oliver said in response to his speech as Viola and Elise drank up on fresh human blood, rather than the contaminated hybrid blood from Dom. "You look happier than before." Jacob nodded, smiling bashfully. "I guess I had a long time to think while I was out." He was incapacitated for a very long time now. "Living my life trying to be someone else isn't worth the time. I still hate him for letting Cassie die... but I don't have to surpass him. I already have." He grinned to himself, flashing a cheeky thumbs up. "At least I didn't let my sister die, unlike him."

Dominic didn't look happy, he was sharing Riven's reservations, but for a different reason. Everyone was growing stronger, moving on, changing and developing as people searching for happiness. But he hadn't changed one bit. Oliver showing up made it obvious that a phony could never live up to the reality. Clara was dead. He still wasn't willing to bury the torch. "I need to change too." He muttered quietly to himself, not wanting to fall behind. "I'm just not ready yet." He wasn't ready to really say goodbye to someone long gone. "At first I thought I'd rather be dead." Elise said suddenly, seemingly speaking to no one. "Being dead rather than blind, dead rather than a vampire. It was all hopeless, like nothing would change." She gave a small smile Dominic's way, eyes clear and seeing once again. "But this blood sure tastes good, doesn't it, Vi?"

It was pretty clear what she was doing. There's always hope in the future, there's always a silver lining. Dominic was too prideful to listen to direct advice, so she had to say it in a roundabout way. "It is good." Viola gave Riven a weak sort of grin, sighing heavily. The sigh, unfortunately, didn't seem to help. "Don't apologize, Riven." Vi said, not wanting her dear friend to feel bad. "If it wasn't for you, we'd have died as tools for the humans." Now that she was a vampire, she could... "Ah... the mark. I don't own you anymore." The contract was gone, Riven was free now too. A new era was beginning.

The next morning, Baron Messiah decided now was the best time to act. While the others were distracted with some commotion involving the hunters that had come as part of Princess Riven's cadre, Baron Messiah made his way up to Baron Lipidus's room. He was the leader of the demons now that the Kings were back in their cages. He has his own goals, and was more honorable than the vampires in any case. He opened the door, watching as Lipidus interacted with Echo. It was strange, to say the least, what he was doing, but Baron Messiah paid it no mind. "Lipidus." Messiah gave him a cold stare, his power immense and overpowering. Lipidus froze in his tracks and then stood at attention. "Yes, sire. What do you need?" If he had a face, he would have been smiling just slightly to himself. "Tides are changing. It's time for me to take action." He held his hand Echo's direction. "Lend me the girl."

Lipidus bit his lip but he knew that he had no choice but to obey. "Yes." He nodded, picking Echo up and handing her into Messiah's arms. "...What did you want with her?" Technically Echo was a prize given to him by Iflet Seylum herself, but he was still loyal to his Master. "I'm going to try something. Perhaps this will result in Nova's return." Messiah had the ability to change someone's body's state, to the past, to a potential future, he could do it all. It was a frightening power, one that not many could handle. Naturally as Baron Messiah, he was allowed one of the keys to the basement. Iflet didn't trust him, but knew that he needed it in order to be willing to work in tandem. "You may come if you wish." Baron Messiah did not care if Lipidus followed or not.

Down in the basement they went, to a very specific room. The pink baby was here. "I take it you know who this is." Baron Messiah spoke, his voice intended for Echo to hear and respond to. "Perhaps you might even... well, that can come later." The baby stared, amethyst eyes bright in the darkness. She didn't cry, merely watched, her wings flapping uselessly against the chains. She coughed, her lungs back to their normal state just as always. "Perhaps this will job your memory." Baron Messiah's hands glowed with light, enveloping Echo's body until she was covered in it. A mark had reappeared on her body, a very familiar contract mark. "Do you understand yet?"

On the baby's body, an identical mark revealed itself on her chest. She poked at it curiously, but continued staring at Baron Messiah as if waiting to be hurt again. She shook a little but no doubt was trying to be brave. "Don't fall for the Seylum's lies. They don't have much longer in this world anyhow." Based on what Kitra had said, Iflet and Gavyn would be taken care of. It would be a shame to lose allies in the war, but Messiah was confident that the demons would do the job just fine either way.

Win or lose, he would achieve his goal. The contract was unstable, because the baby was a demon, however, it remained intact as if she were human. Maybe Messiah cheated a little bit to create this miracle. "Take her back to her room." Messiah told Lipidus, wondering if his gambit worked. "Don't interfere with what will happen. Let the vampires decide their own fate, just as us demons will decide ours."

Riven had Elise and Viola sleep in her room that evening, she wanted to make certain that they were not a danger to themselves or others. She spent majority of the evening worrying about them and hardly slept, but was glad that they were still asleep when she awoke. There was a soft knock at the door, Riven slid out of bed, still wearing her night gown. Gavyn was there, holding a bundle of flowers. Iflet was behind him, her face scrounged upwards in what was clearly disapproval. "I apologize for the early morning disturbance," he truly was trying, which was nice. Riven would have been touched if she weren't plotting to kill him. "I thought we might go on a walk." Riven glanced back inside, but Viola and Elise were still dozing peacefully. "Let me put on my coat," she took the flowers from him and placed them in a vase on the table, she had to keep up appearances after all.

Riven put on her coat and boots, hoping that this wasn't another set up on Iflet's part to shuffle her away into the basement. "I didn't realize you were the sunrise type," she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, the snow howling outside. Iflet followed them, her arms crossed the entire time. They walked around the house and to the path in the woods. "It's the best time for thinking," he replied, taking her hand. Riven attempted to act coy and look away. Iflet's scowl became deeper. Riven took satisfaction in this and grasped his arm to steady herself over an imaginary obstacle. She could practically hear the purple haired vampire grinding her teeth. "I'm sorry about your friends, I know they did not wish to become vampires, you were only acting in their best interest."

"Viola wanted to become a vampire, she begged me to turn her from the very first day. I refused, Elise did not." No, Elise had been unwillingly turned, but Riven had thought better a vampire than permanently dead. "Why didn't you turn her sooner?" Riven tilted her head to the side, not in thought, but the fact that it should have been obvious. "With the demon implant, attempting to turn will have killed her." And she wanted Viola very much alive, Riven enjoyed Viola's company. She was a dear friend and the vampire princess wanted the best for her fuure. She was concerned about the emptiness that Elise and Viola had been describing, as she herself had not felt empty when she had awoken that fateful day.

It was only a short walk to a frozen lake. It was glistening with freshly fallen snow. "How beautiful," it wasn't a lie, the lake was breath taking. There was a waterfall, frozen, touching the surface of the ice. A bit had broken through and was trickling downwards. There was a deer on the other side of the lake, minding its own business. "Riven," Gavyn's eyes glinted. "Turn into a sword," she followed through without hesitation. Iflet drew her own weapon, it was clear that Gavyn wanted to test his strength with the blood stained sword. Riven fell back, allowing him to take control. She embraced the fog, knowing that she could not resist it.

"Riven, revert." The vampire snapped back into her own body, Iflet was panting hard, Gavyn was too. There was no clear winner and the vampire princess had not been watching. She was nowhere near her limit, it seemed to have only been a quick bout. "Let's go back," Riven offered her hand to steady him, the King taking it. His grip was tight, almost possessive. As soon as they reached the castle, he released her hand. "Join me later for dinner," it wasn't a question, but a command. "Yes, my King," Riven curtsied, Iflet glaring as she followed her brother. Riven returned to her room, shedding her coat and boots.

"Good morning," Elise was awake, looking out the window instead of the balcony. Riven didn't blame her. "Morning," Viola was still asleep, or at least Riven thought so judging by the figure on the bed. "I thought today we might try to puzzle out your new power."

Echo did not want to go with Messiah, she was terrified of him. She didn't want to be with Lipidus either. He handed her over, Messiah carrying her to the basement. Echo stiffened, trembling as the door opened and they descended the stair case. Why were they going back? Was it because she was bad? Was it because she didn't want to eat the carrots? She squeezed her eyes shut, Lipidus was following behind them, curious as to what Messiah might do. She wasn't Nova, she didn't understand why they all wanted her to be Nova. She was Echo, she was Echo, she was Echo! The demon bit down on her lip to keep from crying out in fear and pain. There was blood staining the bandages on her chest, the wounds having opened when Baron Lipidus stepped on her chest.

They stopped in front of one of the cells, Echo pried her eyes open, staring down at the pink haired baby. Echo nodded to Messiah's question, that was Flo's baby. Iflet had forced her to bare and lay an egg; this was the result. Messiah shifted, his hand reaching out. What was he doing? Echo's eyes widened, watching in fear and confusion as the contract mark appeared on the baby's body. No. That couldn't be. Echo pulled her dress down, wincing. She tore through the bandages, the red contract mark on her skin as well. "F-F-Flo," it came out as a whimper. The baby seemed to stare back at her, those eyes were the same. Could it truly be her? Or was this some sort of trick Barons Lipidus and Messiah had come up with toy with her? No, she knew of Messiah's power, this was no trick.

"Why?" Echo whispered as Messiah handed her back to Lipidus. "Yes Sir," Baron Lipidius replied, her question going unanswered. He carried her back upstairs, Echo tearing up once again, but this time in relief. She hadn't eaten Flo, her former partner was still alive. "You're bleeding again," Lipidus placed her on the couch and pulled her dress off to redo the bandages. "Why are you crying again?"

Dominic had almost lost his second family yesterday. Viola and Elise fell to their deaths, their bodies broken, their blood decorating the rocks below. It was horrible, and it was all thanks to that demon, Baron Wernicke. Anger surged through him just remembering it. How dare someone target his family like that. He was unhappy, and there was a festering restlessness growing inside of him. Dom was always a street thug in the past. Orphaned, he and Clara had no choice but to survive on the streets. To survive, you had to be strong. You had to make sure no one was willing to go after you. You had to use your strength to show that you were not to be messed with. That was what he did. Beating people up was a specialty, intimidation, a tool.

"Please, brother..." Clara whimpered as she lay there, dying. She was in pain, she was bleeding out, the demon's soul piece in Dominic's right hand. She was growing weaker and weaker, and so many before them had died so he did what he had to do. If the soul piece was the problem, he would rip it out of her body. "Live... happy..." Her eyes never closed as she continued to stare at him, as if wanting to ingrain him as her lest memory in this Earth. "Live happily..." Dominic muttered, wondering what she meant by that. He tried to emulate Oliver but it was obvious he was never as good as the original. The world was worthless without Clara, but even so, he still cared for his fellow subjects, victims of Luis Reamus.

"Here." A drink was passed his way. Gregore was in the parlor, mixing drinks again. "Don't worry." The strange vampire said with a smile. "No alcohol. Gavyn's preparing a small feast to celebrate the births of two new vampires tonight." Dominic took the drink, but he didn't put the glass to his mouth. "I don't like you." Dominic muttered. Gregore shrugged as if he didn't seem to care. "You can't please everyone." He grinned, a nonchalant curve of the lips. "Hey, drink up. Let me know how if it's good enough for tonight." Dom took a swig, grudgingly finding it both delicious and refreshing. "It's terrible." He muttered and Gregore nodded, writing it down in his notepad. "What makes you think peaceful solutions are always possible? Why do you never fight?" Gregore looked at him curiously.

Dom didn't even know why he was asking. It was all just a waste of time, really. "Fighing just breeds ill feelings." Gregore said with a wise expression on his face, one that had seen much death in his lifetime. "Isn't better for people to come to common ground? Sure, it's harder, but it means less people have to die." An idealistic idiot he was, believing the world was better than it was. "As long as more than one person lives, there will always be fighting and hatred." Dominic muttered, taking another swig despite having claimed hating the juice. "But the less of it there is, the better chance my family can survive." Gregore said earnestly, as if trying to appeal to him. "I love my family. Julia, Sweet Pea, Alty... and I know you love yours too. You should be more like the yellow guy, Oliver. He's friendly to everyone here, he even gave Iflet a pretty rose the other day."

"The most important person..." Dom started and Gregore interrupted him. "She's already dead. There's nothing you can do for her. You need to put her to rest and live for your family that's still living." Gregore's eyes were wide as he spoke. Dom gave him a long hard stare, tightening his fist. Maybe punching his positivity-filled face would fix things. "I know." Dom said at last with a painful heavy sigh, loosening the fist back into a hand. "But it hurts too much to let go." Gregore brewed another glass, passing it to him. "Give her a taste." Gregore said gently. "And tell me all about her."

...

Riven had returned. Elise had been idly looking out the window, taking comfort in the sunrise. Riven wanted to figure out their powers now. "I think one of us can control emotions." Elise said, looking at Viola. "Ever since coming back, neither of us have felt anything but numb." Even now she could barely feel anything. She didn't think she was using a power, but maybe it was unconscious. "How did you discover yours?" Viola mumbled something, wriggling in her sleep. Elise gently pat her awake, she had been asleep for too long now. "Uurggh." Viola let out a yawn, blinking rapidly. "Oh... good morning." Riven was here and Elise was still hanging out. "Hey, did you know that when men wake up, they have morning wood?" Viola grinned expectantly.

Elise gave her an awkward stare and looked away. Viola sighed, disappointed. "I thought it'd be funny too, but I found it boring." What joy could there be if she couldn't be amused by her own jokes? What a dreadful life this would be without the joy of low level comedy. "What's the ticket today? Other than the party Gavyn's planning out." She wanted to see Julia but she had a feeling Riven wouldn't let her.

Riven froze up when Viola mentioned that fact, no she had not known that and it was something she didn't feel the need to know. Still, it seemed as though Viola had gotten no satisfaction out of her little joke. "The ticket is to figure out what your two abilities are. Since you are pure bloods, because I changed you, it means that you'll have a vampire ability." Riven said as she poured them each a glass o blood for breakfast. Slaine had brought them vampire safe pastries as well. While they could eat human food, they really weren't supposed to. How had Riven discovered her's? "King Seylum ordered me to change, he knew before I did what my ability was. Although I don't exactly know how," the vampire scratched her head in thought.

Elise mused that one of them could control emotions, "That makes sense, considering neither of you seem to feel anything at the moment." Perhaps she should ask Athena for her help, considering she had been there the first time that Riven had changed and used her ability. The vampire had an idea come to mind, although she didn't want to really use it. "I could order you to stop, although I'm not quite sure if it would work." She nibbled on one of the pastries, "Gavyn does want us to join him for dinner once more. I'm hesitant for the boys to go, considering he might now have some scheme that may kill them so I'm forced to turn them as well." Except Oliver, of course, who was already a demon.

"Ah, I told Julia to come and see you, once she could Viola. I figure you two might want some time alone to speak of... changes," it was important to have a trusted loved one during this conversion. Riven knew that Viola trusted Julia more than she did the pink haired vampire. It didn't particularly bother her, but Riven herself did not trust Julia. It wasn't her decision, but it was one she respected. "She might better help you explore your power, since she is someone you trust. Elise, I'm sorry, but it looks like you're stuck with me for the time being." Elise shook her head and smiled, "I would rather it be you," she admitted, scratching her arm. "I don't really trust any other vampire," Elise took a shy sip of her blood.

Riven nodded, blushing a bit. "To be honest," she admitted, squirming cutely in her seat, "After King Seylum died, I never thought I would ever find a family." Elise placed her glass of blood down and sat beside her, hugging Riven. "Family is more than just blood ties. It's about finding your people, you've found your people." Elise smiled, even if she didn't feel anything right now, she still felt the same way. "Don't tell Viola this," Elise whispered loudly, "But I think you're the cutest one in the family," she stuck her tongue out, hoping to get a rise out of Vi. "I'm kidding of course," she ruffled both of their hair.

They needed to figure out what their powers were but no one knew exactly how to proceed here. Maybe Athena was their best bet after all. The vampire was Riven's old friend, if anyone knew what was on on and how to help, it was her, right? Vi nodded, she wanted to know what she could do. "It would be good to find out." Vi said, slightly wishing she knew how to make a funny joke to make everyone laugh. Riven didn't even know what the male member was, did she? How innocent, how innocent she was. "Order us to change?" Vi suggested with a tilt of the head. It wouldn't work though, neither of their powers worked that way.

"Thank you." Vi would very much appreciate a chance to talk to Julia about things. They were sisters, and now that they were both vampires wasn't this their chance to reconcile and become close again? There wasn't a need for Julia to try to kill her anymore, right? "But you're all my family too. Don't underestimate how I care for you." Julia may be blood, but Vi was no idiot. She knew which family was the one that that had been taking care of her for the past year or more, and it wasn't Julia. It was her second family. Vi owed them everything, Riven included. Suddenly Elise decided to be annoying though. "Excuse me! But I'm super cute?" She tried to be annoyed, but it didn't really work. "Eventually we'll figure out the emotions" Elise said with a sigh, seeming a bit disappointed. It was clear she was trying to provoke Vi a little bit.

Naturally as Julia knocked on the door and Viola left to go with her, Elise noticed the numb in her heart fading away.

Julia gave her an awkward expression as they were taken to the room that had originally been intended for Viola, but Vi ended up rooming with Riven each night regardless so it was meaningless. "So you're a pure blood now." Julia said, rubbing her arm. "That means you have a power, don't you?" Vi nodded, wondering if Julia knew what it might be. "I hope I can figure it out, I guess." She shrugged, feeling kind of indifferent. "You were crying before. When I first turned. Are you okay?" She had noticed Julia's tears yesterday when she had opened her eyes.

Her sister sighed, and nodded. "It doesn't matter anymore. You're already a vampire. I didn't want it to happen, but now that it did, I might as well accept it." Julia narrowed her eyes, however. "I still don't want you involved with the rebellion against the Seylums." Because it was dangerous, Viola knew what she was trying to say. "But they're my family." And family doesn't abandon family. Julia gave her an odd stare then. "Riven's going to get killed by Iflet." She said, staring at Vi as if she were a piece of meat. "I doubt it." Was Vi's response, feeling numb to it all. Then Julia smiled like a light bulb turning on.

"That's it! You can control emotions! Your own and someone else's!" Viola tilted her head, because that, frankly, sounded kind of stupid. What good was that going to be?

"Take care of her," Riven said meaningfully to Julia as the door closed behind them. Elise fidgeted on the couch, it was clear she wanted to say something. Almost as soon as the door closed, the new vampire burst into tears, then touched her cheek in confusion. "I think... it's Viola," Elise said softly, in tune with her emotions once more. "Viola can control other's emotions," Riven nodded. "I'm glad we've figured that out," she finished her breakfast and turned towards her closet. Athena had numbered her clothing for her so that Riven merely had to recall the day of the week. Today was... Friday, Riven believed. She pulled on the according outfit and brushed her hair. "Alright, let's go figure out what your ability is."

Elise nodded and rose, the two of them going downstairs and to the wood, where they would not be disturbed. Oliver noticed them and followed, no doubt curious as to what was going on. "We're trying to figure out what my power is," it was clear the two had something for one another, you would have to be blind to see that. "How's your vision?" Oliver asked, concerned. "Better than ever," Elise replied with a fanged grin, there was a bit of dried blood on her lip from breakfast. Riven led them to the spot Gavyn had taken her to earlier. "Alright, this should be far enough," Riven declared, shivering as the wind began to howl. "What are we doing out here?" Oliver asked curiously, he wasn't meant to follow, but now that he was here, he could serve as a look out.

"We're going to figure out what Elise's power is," Riven replied, cracking her knuckles. "I'm going to use my power on you, alright?" Riven warned, she didn't want Elise to feel as though she had been manipulated. Elise nodded, "Go ahead!" With the okay, Riven's eyes began to glow red. "Elise, I order you to use your power!" Elise's eyes glowed in response, the rocks around her floating upwards. It seemed that she had telekinetic abilities. The rocks shot towards Riven, the vampire dodging quickly. Elise swayed, clutching her skull, more debris rising. "Stop!" Riven ordered, the sticks falling. Oliver had been hit in the head with a rock, but he was alright, it seemed. He wasn't bleeding, merely holding his head in pain. "Oh no, Oliver! I'm so sorry!" Elise ran over to inspect the wound, which was relatively small.

"We should go back," Riven did not want to wait around to see if Elise kissed it better. They followed her back to the castle, where Iflet was waiting, her arms crossed. "What were you doing out here?" She asked, clearly wanting to know what was going on. "I was testing Elise's new power at a safe distance from everyone else." Riven replied, flipping her hair over her shoulder impatiently. It was clear that Iflet thought them to be plotting against her. She pursed her lips, but did not see reason to argue and stepped aside, allowing them to return inside.

Viola and Julia got to work once they realized what Vi's power was. The ability to influence and control emotions was strong. "First let's have you release it. Let go of the power and feel whatever it is you're supposed to be feeling." Viola tried her best to do it but at first she didn't know how. "Think of it like, pressing off of a button, releasing a button. Not that Julia knew what it felt like to turn a power off, but she was friends with some demons that described it like that. It took almost an hour but eventually Viola felt a valve opening, she felt her emotions breaking through the dam. A mixture of horrible guilt for what she did to Elise, and excitement for finally getting to be beautiful, it was a rollercoaster of tears.

For most of the day Julia had Viola practice the powers. Viola learned a lot of things. "It's important to learn. If you want to survive, you have to use every tool you can." Viola whined because she was getting tired but Julia wasn't going to let up on her. "I want to go play, this isn't fun anymore." She didn't have a cool power the way Riven did and it was a little bit disappointing. Who cares about emotional manipulation anyways? Wasn't that just super lame? "Controllign someone's emotions is very powerful." Julia tried to teach her. "It's almost as strong as controlling someone's heart." Julia was quiet. "And controlling someone's heart is the most powerful ability of all."

Eventually the day became afternoon so Julia let Viola go. "You should probably get ready for the banquet." She told her with a smile. "Go back to your friends." Viola gave Julia a hug, feeling warm inside and making sure Julia did too. "I love you. You're my sister!" As Viola left Julia's expression shifted a little. "Just don't let them drag you down. Don't let Iflet catch you." She wasn't going to reveal the truth of their plot even though she knew Riven's team was trying to get rid of the Seylums currently in power. The reason why she kept it secret was because she didn't want Viola implicated and in trouble, tortured or worse. Now that she's here, it's too late to kill her and set her free.

"There you are, Nifa had to tell me where you guys were." Vi said in a smile as she found Riven and Elise and Oliver. Dominic was in the parlor spending time with Gregore and Jacob and Alty were play sparring together so Vi decided to find - wait, what was going on? "Why are you all having tea with Sweet Pea?" Sweet Pea smiled, offering Viola a sunhat to fit in with all the others. "I decided to do what Gregore is doing and trust you all." Sweet Pea said with a giggle. "I want to believe our families can become one. So I made a tea party with low fat cakes!" Elise was frowning but it seemed she trusted that it was low fat so she wasn't freaking out like before.

Riven and Elise were going upstairs when Sweet Pea came across their path. She hesitated, clearly uncertain about whatever it was she was going to do. "Hello Princess," Sweet Pea attempted a smile, nervous. "Hello Sweet Pea," Riven replied. Elise too, hesitated, looking nauseous, as though standing there was a feat in its own. "Would you like to come to a tea party?" She held out an invitation, hand drawn. It was clear Sweet Pea had worked hard on it. Riven took the invitation, glancing at the childish scrawl of the other vampire. "We'll be there," she decided for them. Oliver put his hands on his hips, wondering if he too had to go. Sweet Pea clapped her hands together, leading them to the sun room. She offered them each a hat, none looking alike.

Riven placed the hat on gracefully and took a seat. Sweet Pea poured them each tea, which was really just warm blood and a bit of lemon juice. Oliver made a face, but allowed Sweet Pea to pour him a cup. "Thank you for the invitation," Riven raised her glass, pinkie finger out of course. She had manners, she had been raised in a proper household. Viola suddenly burst inside, it seemed as though she too, wanted to join their party. Sweet Pea rose, setting another place eagerly. The cakes had been made low fat, specifically for Elise's sake. The blonde vampire did not seem to freak out. "I should inform you, Elise, as a vampire, you can eat as much as you want and you'll never gain a lick of weight." That was Riven's experience at least. She didn't think the information would actually help.

The tea party was a joyous occasion and Riven truly did enjoy it. She hoped that Sweet Pea would not be too offended when they killed Iflet. "We should go prepare for the dinner party," Riven rose, dipping into a curtsy. "But thank you for the tea party Sweet Pea, it was lovely." Sweet Pea shook her head, dipping into an even lower curtsy. "No, no! Thank you for coming!" She grinned, seemingly satisfied with herself for making nice with the outsiders. Oliver seemed relieved to go, no longer having to feign enjoyment as they served pastries with human blood.

The banquet was well on it's way. Jacob decided to go out and take a breather as Gavyn welcomed Elise and Viola to the family. He stepped out of the room, sighing. It was good that they seemed to have gained Gavyn Seylum's trust. But they would have to betray that trust sooner or later so it was best to hold Gavyn at arm's length. As he wandered the halls to clear his thoughts someone grabbed him and pushed him into a side hallway. His eyes widened but with his mouth covered it was impossible to respond. "Don't say anything." Christopher told him. "We just need to get Echo and get out of here." They had infiltrated Castle Seylum? What were they doing here? "Tell us where to find Echo." Doll sounded desperate, as if her life depended on this.

Jacob nodded, of course he didn't want Echo to be here anymore! This was the perfect chance to save her once and for all. He tore himself free of his brother's hand, not exactly liking the feel of Cassie's murderer on his lips. "I'll take you to her but we have to be fast." Down the halls the trio went. There was no need to talk about anything else in either case. If Echo could be taken to safety once and for all that would help everyone on the right side here. Baron Lipidus didn't seem to be around, and Doll was able to break the lock on the door. Echo was inside, chained to the bed. Doll cut through it and held her, sharing a tender moment. "Thank you, brother." Christopher told Jacob with a pat on the head. "Doll, we have to go. It's dangerous to stay here any longer."

There was a bright light. The next moment... - what was going on? Where did all these vampires come from and why had cages fallen? Who grabbed his arm from behind and twisted it backwards? "My my." Iflet smiled sweetly, grinning at the scene. "This is evidence. Jacob smuggling Christopher and Doll into the Castle. What is this, an assassination attack on my brother, King Gavyn? Or me?" This was bad. This was very bad. "Finally." Iflet's tight grip on Jacob only got worse as she was dragged in front of Gavyn at his big celebratory event. Seals were placed on Christopher and Doll, and they were locked up for the time being, their powers stripped from their bodies.

"Lord Brother." Iflet did a bow in front of Gavyn as she threw Jacob onto the ground at her feet. "This boy, Jacob. He smuggled a Christohper Delanore and Doll King into the castle to kill us! I caught him in his tracks, but this betrayal can't be forgiven." The purple haired vampire gave a stare Riven's way. "Who knows? Maybe she even orchestrated this from the start." Jacob growled, biting through his gag. "No!" He shouted. "I did this on my own b-b-because I hate vampires! I was going to kill them all, that's why I brought them in! We were going to kill each and every last vampire!"

Iflet's smile grew deadlier.

"I think we should execute him for his crime, brother."

It was merely a small gathering, a dinner party. Riven was expected to sit by Gavyn's side, of course, being his fiancee and all of that. The pink haired vampire had never enjoyed formal gatherings, she had always hated balls. Perhaps it was because they had always taken up the attention of King Seylum and she had largely been ignored or forced to go to bed early. Now, Riven was old enough, or well, she hoped so, to be allowed to attend the entire occasion. However, she found it tedious. Riven sat upright, her dress one that Athena had picked out for her. Riven had told Else that she wanted her to design her dress for the wedding and then for her coronation, once Gavyn was dead. "I apologize Gavyn, what was it you were saying?" Riven tuned back into the conversation, realizing that she had zoned out.

"Oh, nothing of importance," his hand covered her own, squeezing it. If Riven didn't know any better, she would have thought that Gavyn may actually have had some sort of affection towards her. In truth, he only felt possession and pride. This powerful tool was now his. The vampire cut into her steak, meat was something that vampires could easily eat and the humans enjoyed it as well. The door suddenly burst open, Iflet marching in with Jacob, throwing him down. Riven rose, wondering what this was all about. Her eyes widened and she couldn't help but admire his brashness. "Sit down," Elise tugged on Riven's gown, pulling her back into her seat. Jacob's eyes were wide, no one would believe for a second that he had meant what he said. Gavyn seemed to be deliberating this matter.

"Do you really expect us to believe, that a boy who has been in a comatose state up until yesterday could have conspired to kill us all so quickly?" Riven asked, knowing that this might get her killed instead. She had given Doll the note telling her to stay away. So why had she come? Why had she been so foolish? Unless this was all a set up? Riven grit her jaw. She wouldn't put it past Gavyn and Iflet to do something like this. "Doll and Christopher are crafty in their own right. If they had found a way in, they would have done it regardless of if their brother had helped them or not." Jacob was quaking, there was no way Gavyn could find him guilty enough for execution. "I have considered both of your points, but the boy states that he wishes to kill all vampires." No, Riven wouldn't allow them to kill him, even if they forced her hand.

"So we'll force him to become one," wait... had Riven heard that right? "There is no better torture then to be the thing you hate most in the world." Was Gavyn stupid? Riven wasn't sure. Even Iflet's expression seemed to falter in a bit of confusion. "Take him to the basement," Gavyn ordered. Jacob would not escape without torture. Riven's throat constricted, she felt guilty. It was her fault he was here, she had promised him a better life, one free of any sort of constraint like this.

"I'm going to a dinner party, you're to stay here." Baron Lipidus's voice grumbled across the room. Echo lay in bed, feeling spent, her legs aching. He had forced himself on her again. She felt wretched, as though her insides had been twisted and forced around. "Eat dinner Nova," he set the tray down on the end of the bed and left, locking the door behind him. Echo didn't touch the food, she felt too weak to eat. Albeit that was probably because she was still refusing any sort of food. Flo was alive, but that didn't change the fact that Echo envisioned her friend anytime she so much as drank water. For now, she was living off of Hawk's mana stores and that was enough. The demon closed her eyes, hoping that she would fall asleep soon and not wake up.

The door suddenly burst open. Echo trembled, fearing that Explozia had come to torture her in Lipidus's absence. Instead, it was a familiar voice that struck her eyes. The demon dared to open one eye, then the other. Doll slashed through the chain on her ankle, lifting her sister. "Echo, I'm here, it's okay now." She held her close, taking in her sorry state. Echo clung to her, wondering if this was an illusion. Why were they here? How had they gotten here? "We're going home now." Echo buried her face in her sister's chest. A bright light suddenly encapsulated them, cages falling from the ceiling. She should have known, it wouldn't have been this easy. Echo was never going to escape, was she?

The demon felt... empty. Tears of defeat welled up in her eyes once more. Her sister was taken away and she was helpless as she watched. Echo was placed back on the bed and left there, not a threat to anyone. The door closed behind them, locked once more. The demon slid off of the mattress, collapsing onto all fours. She crawled across the ground, the carpet burning her knees as she dragged her legs. The balcony door was so close, her fingers wrapped around the handle, the cold biting at her skin. This was it, this would be her only way to escape. The demon gauged the rocks below, wondering if they were sharp enough to impale her.

Echo managed to haul herself up onto the railing. "Please... take me to hell." She whispered, letting go.

Echo opened one eye, then the other, a hand grasping the back of the thin night gown. "I'm sorry," Flame apologized, "but I can't let you do that." The balcony door closed behind him, Melody grabbed Echo from over the railing, holding her tightly. "I've got you," she whispered, murmuring it over and over into Echo's hair. "Let's go home."

Viola's heart was pounding with dread the entire time since Jacob's trial began. Why was this happening? Why had he done something so stupid and risky? He should have consulted the rest of the team before bringing Christopher and Doll in. Did he really think he could bypass Iflet's surveillance with a trick like this? "What was he thinking." Elise's eyes were wide with panic and distress. Viola grit her teeth - what could she do? What was she supposed to do now? Jacob was desperately trying to protect them, to make sure they didn't get dragged down with him. Dom was glaring with murder clear in his eyes. If Kitra and Lilim were still here, maybe they could help but they were currently back in Krakow, working the human farm.

In the end the decision was for Jacob to become a vampire. Jacob was taken to the basement and Viola flushed, feeling exhausted. She had used her powers to change Gavyn's emotions, to make him feel merciful. She didn't want Jacob to die and this was the only way she could prevent it from happening. Everyone was perplexed by the decision but it was too late to change it now. "I do hope none of you are plotting anything." She warned Riven's party. "I'll be watching, of course." For the next week anyone who came close to the basement could hear Jacob's screams as his soul piece fought back against the vampiric infection. No one could do anything for him, it was just like when they were experiments. Your whole body tries to fight back, causing the pain to exist in every last cell. It was an endless agony.

Naturally, with Echo's disappearance, Baron Lipidus became desperate again. "We have to fight back! We need to take the war to the humans!" He kept campaigning to Gavyn, he desperately wanted to strike and take his wife back. "Who knows what those humans could be doing to her." Meanwhile Viola and Julia, Oliver and Dominic, they all had to be on their best behavior. Even the parlor wasn't safe for them because Iflet and her serving staff had their eyes on them the entire time. One step out of place and they would be in danger - so no one was able to save Jacob from his suffering. Would he die? Would he survive? Chrstiohper and Doll, both prisoners in the basement, were forced to listen as his screams echoed in their cells.

The day before the Ball, a strange announcement was made. Jacob was dragged out by Iflet who was incredibly displeased, tossing him on the ground the final dress fitting for the ball was complete - Elise and Sweet Pea were the seamstresses for this occasion. "I think we know the answer now." Iflet snapped, kicking Jacob in the side. "The vampire infection killed the demon's soul piece. But in the fight, the human side was able to develop the antibodies to kill the vampiric infection." Vi's eyes went wide - Jacob smelled very different indeed. "He's a human now. Not only that... but he developed an immunity to the vampire bite. If the humans catch him, we'll never be able to turn more humans into vampires again." He was a very dangerous existence to vampires, their worst nightmare. Jacob was the key to create a vaccine.

This could spell the end of the vampire world forever if Jacob were to return to the human world. "For the sake of vampires all around the world, we have to execute him."

What if the future vaccine was put into a vampire's body? Would it kill them outright? Was a new weapon against vampires found?

Riven was busy preparing for the ball. All of their safe meeting points had eyes and ears on them at all times. The parlor had a servant stationed there, there was an attendant outside of Riven's room. The only safe point was Athena's office, but they could never all gather there at once. Ir seemed as though Gavyn and Iflet were purposely keeping Riven busy in order to make certain she could not be plotting anything. Riven was exhausted, both physically and mentally. She had deemed Viola her personal assistant, more as a joke then anything, but just so that she would not have to be alone with the terrible twins, as Riven had begun referring to them as in her head. She had no desire to be in closed quarters alone with them, even if Kaito was often there.

To make matters worse, Riven felt immensely guilty about Jacob. She wished she could have done better by him, she wished that she could have helped him, but Gavyn's decision was final. It seemed Riven was not the only one who felt guilty. Dominic could barely bring the topic up without bursting into tears. Riven didn't blame him of course, it was hard on all of them. Not to mention Doll and Christopher's capture meant that the humans were nipping at their heels. It was the day before the ball, time had begun to fly.

Riven was being fit for her ballgown by Elise and Sweet Pea, the fabric a near perfect fit. Suddenly, the door burst open and Jacob was thrown onto the floor. Who else but Iflet would be behind him? Looking as though she had smelled something rotting. Her expression was pinched, it was clear that she was not happy. "What is the meaning of this?" Riven inquired, wrapping a robe around her and tying it shut. Jacob looked horrid, his pallor was gray and he had clearly lost weight. Guilt panged in her chest once more, this was her fault, Riven knew and she had no way of stopping it.

Iflet's news was strange. Riven was not quite sure what to make of it, but the proposition of killing Jacoh was not all that enticing. "How do we know this isn't a good thing?" Riven asked, attempting to put a positive spin on it, to save Jacob from being executed. "Perhaps there is more to Jacob's blood than merely being resistant to the vampire change?" Her voice lowered an octave. "What if he can be used against the humans? A carrier that is immune himself?" No doubt Iflet would laugh the idea off, thinking that Riven was merely trying to save her friend. Which was exactly what she was doing.

---------

Melody hadn't let go of Echo the entire ride home. Her little sister fell asleep with her head on Mel's lap. When they reached VH, the halls were quiet, night had already fallen, but Wei was waiting for them. "It worked, Doll and Christopher were successfully planted." He rose from behind his desk at Melody's words. "And?" Wei inquired, crossing his arms. "And we retrieved Echo," Flame carried her into the office, wrapped in his jacket. "Give her to me," Wei said softly. Flame handed the demon over, who stirred and pried one eye open, stiffening. "It's alright, it's just me."

Lipidus had torn apart Echo's reproductive organs. He was much too large for her small body and Wei was forced to remove her uterus. She had lost a lot of blood, which had gone unnoticed, trickling in small amounts from between her legs and through her cuts. Shiro, the puppy nursemaid, was glad to see her back. Wei sat down with Melody. Flame there to support her. "I don't think Echo can recover from this," he admitted. "She is completely terrified of just about everything. She won't eat on her own and she won't leave the bed."

Melody had been prepared for this, but it was still devastating. "There's nothing we can do?" She asked softly, hoping that there might be something that would help her. "I can't think of anything. I can send her to long term rehabilitation but somehow I don't think you're going to let me." Melody shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. She exited Wei's office swiftly, going to the room where Echo was kept under lock and key. Shiro was inside, attempting to get Echo out of bed and into the shower.

"Echo?" Melody opened the door, finding her sister cowering on the bed. "N-no," Echo was begging, "pl-please n-no." Melody sat down beside her, hesitant to reach out. "What is it? What so scary about a bath?" Echo did not reply, she merely trembled. "Echo, I can't help if you won't use your words." At last she poked her head out from her hiding spot of blankets. It was common for demons to make nests when they felt unsafe.

"I don't want to drown." Waterboarding, she must have experienced it at some point or another during her lovely stay at castle Seylum. "Alright, then no bath," Melody decided. "We'll just sponge bathe you," the pink haired demon wiggles her sister out of her nest. Shiro brought a bucket of hot water and towels, the two of them managing to get Echo clean.

A carrier is someone who's immune to the infection but carries it within their system nonetheless. If Jacob was a carrier, then he could be the biggest danger to humanity. There was no time to be happy that he was a normal human again, Viola was anxious but she didn't know how to save him. What could even be done about this? Riven was the only one to speak up to try to save him. "Nifa, come here." Iflet ordered. The bow legged - wait, when was she bow-legged? Did Iflet punish her for something recently? - came, the maid bowed and stood at Iflet's attention. Iflet grabbed Jacob, sliced into his arm and forced Nifa to drink from the knife. For a moment, nothing happened. And then nothing continued to happen. "I'm still human." Nifa said in dull surprise. She returned to Ronoue where the two would wait until they were needed.

"So I guess that means he isn't a carrier then." Iflet's voice was quiet as Gavyn watched the proceedings. Iflet drew her dagger, ready to go straight for the neck. "Don't-" Dominic was about to lunge and attack but Oliver and Elise pulled him back, not allowing him to get dragged down too. Jacob was shaking not out of fear, but his body must have taken so much damage these past few weeks. And he hasn't had anyone to come and help him. "Killing him right now would be in bad taste." The demon queen's entrance into the scene was very welcome. Next to her was her little sister, wagging her tail. "There's a ball coming up soon. Shouldn't we postpone his death until after the ball?

They had come back, they were ready for their part of the assassination plot. Baron Messiah and his group were being strategically quiet and Viola noticed that too. She nudged Riven, hoping Riven noticed. Messiah no doubt knew about their plan and chose to not get involved and let whatever side wins, win. Their only opponent would be Iflet and Gavyn Seylum. "And not in front of Riven. Traitor or not, she and him are still friends." Gavyn finally made his decision after weighing both sides of the problem. "It would be cruel to force her to watch her friend's death." Kitra walked up to Iflet then, with a little grin. "Let me keep him in Hell for now. You have a ball to get ready for."

The next morning had come. The day of the ball had finally come. Elise was back in her own room so it was just Viola and Riven waking up in Riven's room. Vi's room went unused in the end. "Kitra came back. She'll be free to help Doll and Christopher if need be." She was relieved that in the end, Jacob didn't die. "Today's the day, Riven. Then it'll all be over." One last fight. Gavyn wouldn't be a problem without Iflet as his protector. "Messiah won't get involved and neither will the demons under him. Since Echo vanished, Lipidus stopped following Iflet's orders too." The demons were out of the picture. No doubt Kitra had spoken to them. "I'm so tired, Riven. I don't want to be in stress anymore." To have to live with eyes constantly watching for any mistake, it was incredibly hard for someone like her.

To the side, Viola could see Oliver and Elise dancing together. He held her tenderly and the two were locking eyes with one another. It was clear that they had mutual interest. They had been attached at the hip ever since the first day at Luis Reamus's lab, so it was no surprise that it was going to be like this now. The hybrids had learned not to fall in love, but now neither of them were constrained by a short lifespan. They were free to love as they wished now. "Confess already." Vi whispered to herself, too low for them to here. Riven went off to dance with other, important people, and Julia found Vi, keeping her close. "Don't do anything risky."

"Let's dance. I don't care if it's risky, we're sisters!" Viola masked the topic of conversation to something else instead, pretending Julia was referring to the fact that two women usually weren't supposed to dance with each other. It was already seen as a bit odd that Viola and Riven were so intimately close. Julia rolled her eyes in the exact same way Viola did, and took her by the hand. "Of course, I'm leading." She said with a half smile, taking the man's role in the dance. Sweet Pea was at the reception table, helping herself to food. Gregore was at the bar, serving drinks to all those who wanted to let go a little. Alty looked bored even as fancy looking vampires in dresses kept asking him for dances.

Here was the crucial moment. The Duke of Sussex got a drink from Gregore, one for himself, another for Queen Iflet. He had spiked it with laxatives in order to humiliate her, but naturally before the ball began, Viola had swapped the pills in his bottle for silver-laced arsenic pills instead, fatal to all vampires who ingested it. It would kill Iflet easily and frame the Duke of Sussex for the murder. It would be a very clean assassination. Iflet took the drink, giving him a weird look. "I'm thirsty, so I'll drink too." Viola said with a grin, wanting to get closer to see this go down. Julia gave her a stare but Vi slipped into the crowd of dancing bodies before her sister could pull her back.

With a prancing lady (a special drink Gregore invented) in hand, Viola took a drink. It tasted weird but she decided to ignore it. Alcohol always did taste weird to her. Iflet took a sip as well, but nothing seemed to be happening to her. Did the poison not work? Did she see it coming and plan against it? The Duke of Sussex was watching her carefully, waiting but then suddenly Viola felt her throat and chest burning. She fell to her knees, trying to vomit but it wouldn't work, it was leaking out her throat instead. Iflet had stopped time and swapped the drinks, but no one knew this but her. "The Duke of Sussex." Iflet said with a sly little smile. "I believe this is an assassination attempt. You murdered an honored guest. Lord Brother, how will we deal with the traitor?

It really was two birds with one stone. A political enemy and Riven's most vocal supporter taken out in one fell swoop.

Riven and Kitra had finished dancing when Iflet's cries reached their ear. Riven turned, her stomach dropping. "No," she abandoned the Baroness and went to Viola's side, her heart pounding in her ears. "No, no," she fell to her knees, but Viola had blood dripping out of every orifice in her body. "Viola, stay with me." Riven begged, holding the newly turned vampire close. An unexpected cry came from across the ballroom, Iflet's clever smile slowly falling. She had been skewered through the throat, the large chandelier crashing to the ground. Riven shielded Viola with her body, pieces of crystal hitting her back and cutting through her dress. She would be fine, but Vi, Vi was dying. "Lilim!" Kitra yelled as the Duke of Sussex was apprehended.

His eyes were wide with panic. Lilim ran to Viola's sides, her hands glowing. Gavyn was screaming as he ran to hold Iflet, but a vampire whose head was detached from their neck could not heal. Had the chandelier falling been a freak accident? Riven didn't know. Lilim placed her hand against Viola's chest, attempting to heal her. "Please work," she begged. The other vampires were fleeing for their lives, fearing that the other chandeliers may fall. Riven turned, noticing Baron Lipidus on the side, his hand clenched. Had he done it? Had he killed Iflet? Someone could have compelled him, but he seemed to have done it of his own accord. Revenge for Echo? Fury for having been manipulated by the vampire?

"Can you heal her?" Riven asked, but Lilim shook her head. "I can only slow its progress," she revealed, biting down on her lip. Julia appeared at Viola's other side, ripping her out of Riven's grip. "No, Vi, no not you. Please, don't leave me!" Julia begged. Riven rose, feeling as though she had swallowed a bag of rocks. She was dizzy as she stood at her full height, which wasn't much. "I know one person who might be able to fix her," Alty said quietly. "But you might not agree to it, considering Iflet is dead." Who was he referring to? Riven wondered, this was no time for cliff hangers. "Take me to them," Alty pointed over his shoulder, to where Baron Messiah stood, faceless, observing. Riven marched up to him, pushing aside her fear. "Can you fix Viola?" She inquired, her voice soft, hopeful. "Please?"

Meanwhile, Dominic had been working on releasing everyone in the basement while the chaos upstairs ensued. He cut through the cuffs binding Doll and Christopher to the wall. Doll was injured, having taken the brunt of Iflet's questioning in order to spare her human. "Thanks," Christopher stood, rubbing his wrists. He helped Doll up, lifting her into his arms. "The exit is that way, run and don't look back," the next person he freed was Hawk, who ran without so much as a thank you, following Doll, knowing she would take her to Echo. There was one thing that Dominic most definitely had not been expecting to see and that was a baby.

It was probably an obvious fact but really, it did not feel good to have your insides melted apart. It did not feel good to be disintegrated from the inside out. It did not feel good to have the acid drink burning you up, melting and tearing apart your body and flesh. Her fate was sealed, she was going to die and she was gurgling on so much blood she wasn't even able to speak or say any last words. It wasn't how she thought she would die. Vi wasn't really afraid as she had always been prepared for the possibility. "Julia, don't cry, I'm okay with it, really." She tried to say but the gurgling was all she could muster. Julia was wailing, clinging to her like one would a life buoy at sea.

Elise looked pale and frozen as she stared at her. Oliver pulled her into his chest, not letting her see. Good, Viola thought, Elise was so beautiful she didn't deserve to have her eyes stained by a wretch like her. Riven was there, pleading, desperate, like she always would but she would be fine. "Be a strong Queen! Make people swoon!" Viola would have said to Riven had she not been choking on her own blood and vomit. Iflet was dead too, her Officers and Gavyn all crying for her. Vampires could survive a little as a head but Iflet without lungs was in the same problem Vi had. Unable to speak or impart any last words for anyone. Gavyn and Iflet stared into each other's eyes, siblings who would have to be parted forever.

"No." Baron Messiah said at last, after some ruminating. "I won't pick sides until the victor is confirmed." The faceless Baron gestured to two vampires. Riven and Gavyn Seylum would now finally have their fight. "You two are to fight to the death Whoever lives, I will save their loved one." A pink shard shattered in his grip, seemingly freezing both Iflet's head and Viola's body in time to allow Riven and Gavyn to have their fight. "This succession war has gone on long enough. I give my best wishes to the both of you." All eyes now were on Gavyn and Riven. Now was the time to fight for the one they loved. Who held their family dearest to their heart? Who had the conviction to save their family?

Amethyst eyes, dull and confused, stared out at nothing. The baby coughed, her breathing faint as she struggled to keep alive. Dominic had a feeling he knew who this was. "You have to be Fluorspar. Echo's old partner. We heard all about you... and what they were doing." Echo was Baron Lipidus's bride, and Flo was used to provide time crystals for the vampires to use in their war, allowing them to stop time and evade death to try and fight again another day. She squeezed herself into a tiny ball as Dominic approached. "Hey. It's okay. I'm not going to-" Pink wings slashed at his hands, cutting into his palm. She was shaking, she must have been terrified. Dom peeled his shirt back, revealing all of his scars accumulated through the years. He calmly told the stories of each incision Luis Reamus gave him, each step of the experiment. "I'm similar to you." He said gently. "Let's go home. Echo needs you."
