Neela of Façade

"I broke the rules and now I am outcasted. They say the rules are to let us know our freedoms, but is that really the case with this?"

a character in “NieR: Encroaching Shadows”, as played by Senpai

Description

Name: Neela of Façade

Age: 22

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Face Claim: Monster Hunter | Nargacuga Huntress

Appearance: She will always be wearing this mask upon her face.

Image

Description: Neela stands at about 5'11, tall for the people of Façade. Her time in the desert sun has tanned her skin to a fine caramel and is nearly flawless save for a mole just under her left eye closest to the ear side of her face and a small but nasty scar on her lower-left jawline. Raven black hair is tied back in a ponytail at all times, long bands usually coming over her mask. Should she not be wearing her mask, the hair would nearly cover eyes of red with two long strips that hug the shape of her face and extend about to her shoulders. If she were to let her hair down, it would reach about halfway down her back. Her outfit consists of lavendar ribbons on her waist and arms, lavendar cloth top and black netting over the midsection. It also appears to have pieces made from the same creature her bow is. It is rather revealing, intended to not bog her down while hunting in the blistering heat. Her body is well-maintained, not quite muscular but definitely fit and trim.

Equipment: For weaponry, she had the spear known as Captain's Holy Spear and she also carries a quiver/bow that appears to be made from some creature. Probably not one that anyone outside of the desert has seen. Of course, she always carries her mask on her face.

Strengths: Long and close range fighting, surviving outdoors in hot and medium-temperatured conditions, high stamina and durability, she is crafty and has some pretty solid handiwork.

Weaknesses: No means to use magic, ranged attacks take time to prepare, melee attacks do not chain for very long, she is adapting to life without so many rules and often will apologize for breaking them (despite them not existing outside of Façade).

Likes: Meat and bread, combat and hunting, weapons, the outdoors (especially green areas), children, and while she does not LIKE them, she is very interested by Shades.

Dislikes: Acting on impulse, fish, machines/automatons, remaining in one place too long, multitasking.

Personality: Like many citizens of Façade, she seems rather distant and strange. It always seems like she has to cycle through some mental lists before acting on any decisions. Despite this, she is generally friendly and helpful, willing to sacrifice herself for a cause she believes in at all times. Whether it be her life or a day's meal, she will do what it takes to prove her devotion to whatever it is she dedicates herself to. She tends to treat most things with caution, especially her interactions with people. She can often appear very formal in her speech regardless of who it is she is addressing. Sometimes she may come across as cold or emotionless and this may stem from her rather disciplined behavior and lack of any visible facial expressions.

History: Neela grew up on the middle levels of the strange desert town of Façade. Eventually she rose out of the normal woman customs and decided to become a hunter, to fetch meat from wolves and other desert creatures for the towspeople. It turned out that she was pretty good at it, making sure to hit vital spots in the animals without damaging the meat or pelts too much almost every time. As per rule 94,557, if a hunter slays a large monster or creature, they may make articles from it and wear it on hunts rather than their robes if they so please. Neela was one of few in the history of Façade who took advantage of this rule, enjoying having something new and different to wear after taking down a large scaled beast that lived inside of the sandstorm. Besides hunting and Shades, Neela had little to deal with and had plenty of downtime that she used to do construction work for the town.

Three years ago, the Shades stopped appearing. That only gave Neela more time on her hands. The city began prospering more and more, leaving her with less and less to hunt. Construction became monotonous. She craved a hunt. And when another one of those creatures threatened the city's safety again, she sought after it. Normally this would not have been an issue... but that was when she began breaking rules. Rule 649, hunters are not to hunt alone. This was the first as she attacked the creature by herself. Then Rule 12, do not neglect your mask. The beast made a vicious swipe that ripped through her former mask, in the shape of a bear, and dug into her jaw. Rule 500, do not leave corpses that can be harvested alone in the desert. Her injuries made her disregard that rule and head back to down, holding a broken mask to her face as best she could to get past the guards. Finally home, she realized that with her mask in shambles she would have to break Rule 8, a rule she did not remember existed, one's chosen mask is their mask for life.

Her mask was broken beyond reasonable repair. So instead she made her own. She isolated herself for just over a week as she constructed a new mask. Hand carved and painted, it was a thing of beauty. She finished it just in time to be approached at her house by the town guard. Apparently there were witnesses to her crimes, breaking several rules. For her crimes, she should have been sentenced to death. However, as per rule 1,790, anyone who would be punished by death for breaking a rule may instead be exiled if the townspeople favor their life. Her time helping others had saved her this time. Only now she was a masked stranger to the people, forced into the sands without a home and no friends in the outside world. She wandered through the seemingly-endless sands until she came across a traveling merchant. Using what little money she had left she bought some water and bread and exchanged pleasantries with the salesman. The salesman noticed her weaponry and pointed out that if she was doing nothing better that a nearby village was looking for swords for hire to fight off the increasing number of Shades. Those creatures fascinated her, and she'd be damned if she didn't kill things well. So it was off to the village for her, to seek out a new life and preserve those of many others.

So begins...

"Why are the rules so few?"

The huntress was surprised as the sound of her footsteps changed. Sand turned to dirt, dirt turned to grass. She had stopped, becoming aware of the solid ground beneath her, the lack of shifting sands catching her off guard for just a moment. Wide, wooden eyes would cover her own as she took in her surroundings. There were no humans in this pathway lined with rock, but surely if there were they would be gawking at this tall woman with the mask and rather revealing outfit. She looked confused, out of her element. And to say that she wasn't would be far from the truth. The masked woman had never left the desert before today. She never felt like she needed to leave the desert, though that was before the banishment. A soft sigh left the huntress's lips as she continued walking, using her spear as a walking stick. The path was beautiful, decorated in dark-colored rocks and green plants. There were animals she had never seen before, but ones she could recognize by description of travelers. Goats and a large boar. They were hairy and large, unlike anything the desert had to offer. Beneath her mask she let out a soft smile of fascination before finding herself before a set of open gates. "This must be the village." She had spent some time studying the language outside of Façade, but her accent was heavy and would definitely give away that she was foreign if her skin and mask didn't do that for her. But without a moment more's hesitation she stepped on through with a nod to the guards.

The village inside was absolutely beautiful. She stood in awe at the flowing hills of green. In the center was a beautiful stone fountain with broken archways surrounding one half. To her left she could see a house behind a stone gate and a stone wall in front of it with a red mailbox sticking out. A ways behind that house was a river that sat beside what she would later know as the Market District of the village. And up to her right at the very top of the hill was the library that she was told to meet at to apply for the guardian job. Apparently there weren't too many other applicants. It didn't surprise her. Not many were brave and or dumb enough to fight with the Shades. Neela of Façade was different, though. She was a brave huntress with experience combatting the Shades and many other creatures. Her spear had tasted much blood and her arrows always shot true. As an outcast with nowhere to call home, this seemed to be the place that the world needed her most. But this place...

"This place is really confusing. Where is all the low, mid and high level housing? Where is their king? Does he reside in the library? That seems like a rather odd place for a king. And that woman... Is she not wearing a mask?" Her eyes caught sight of a white-haired young woman, probably not much older or younger than Neela herself was, in a white dress tending to some white flowers. Her eyes darted around as she delved further into the village. None of the citizens were wearing masks. Each of their attires was completely different from the next, too. So many of her village's rules were being broken in the first few seconds that she was here. Of course, this was not her village, but this place... "Is so very bizarre. What kind of rules govern these people's lives?"

Part of her wanted to just shrug it off, but the absence of everything that she knew in life was itching underneath her skin. How would she be able to conform to this village's rules? How could she change her way of thinking and adapt to a community where rules seemed to be scarce at most? She had not thought this far ahead. She cursed herself, silently of course because verbal cursing was against the rules, and turned her attention up to the library. That was where she could find answers. And if she was lucky it was where she could find a job and a place to lay her head. Crossing the entire length of the desert was nothing short of exhausting... So without further adieu she began climbing her way up the wooden stairs up to the large library atop the tallest hill.

The young woman looked up, silver hair falling off her face and down her back. She was tending to her favorite flowers, the Lunar Tear. She noticed the strange woman curiously and almost assumed it was another person by their clothing but shook her head afterwards. No, it wasn't her good friend, who had allowed her to call her 'Aunt'. She then assumed it was another warrior signing up for guardianship. Sighing as this means she would probably be hearing from this woman if she gained an injury.

In the meanwhile at the Library in the Office on the door to the right, the Leader of the village was hard at work. Blue, curly near shoulder length hair looked almost styled every morning, with a blue flower in her hair. Many would call her attractive, for good reason. She had a body women would love to have, though her choice of wear would also be called into question, one would mistake her for an exotic dancer in other cities. She was busy at the moment, looking over a list of supplies currently at the village. The moment she heard someone coming she'd look up and say politely, "Hello, My name is Eliza. I am the leader of this small humble community. How may I help you today?" Before giving a cheery smile.

-----

Limping towards the village, the man finally reached the gates. Bandaged by the people of the seaport, he had travelled the distance just to reach this place, desiring to fulfill this goal and reaching where the Shades are the most concentrated. He was carrying two swords along his back. His clothes looked more of a traveler then a fighter. He walked through the market and tried not to have people stare at him so. But they all could guess that the shades were even near the seaport..

Next thing the Traveler knew, the same woman tending to her flowers was now in front of him, offering a bottle to him. "You'll heal a little bit faster with this mister. I promise." she said with a small smile as he only nodded and took the bottle and drank it. "Miss Eliza is in the library if you're looking for being a guardian of the village. My name is Yonah by the way."

The Traveler smirked at her before walking towards the library. "Thanks for the directions kid, My name is Gawain of the North."

With that hat reply he made his way to the Library, climbing up the same wooden stairs many others have taken. as he made his way towards it, he noted the enormity of the Library, it was the biggest building In the village! In the meantime he made his way into the library.

"Let's see, the office is upstairs, first door on the right I believe. " he muttered as he started up said stairs.
