Name : Karin Seiryuu
Nickname : The Raven
Age - ???
Appearance :
Karin stands at 5'6 and seems fairly young, although no one without access to her records knows her real age due to the nature of the drugs she takes. She also wears a black collar with a metal tag stamped
001 . On the center of her back, there is also the Hoof of the Flying Dragon.
Equipment : The primary weapons of Karin are two sea stone plated gauntlets she wears on each hand that have been forged to withstand a nearly ludicrous amount of punishment. The gauntlets can withstand all but the finest of blades, and if the user is strong enough, deflect a cannon ball. However, Karin doesn't have the experience nor the strength to do anything outlandish with the gauntlets, but they serve as very effective close combat weapons, and an interrogation tool.
Karin also posses a runic blade retrieved from an unknown island, gifted to her by her benefactor. Currently, it only posses a singular rune that allows her to ignite the blade with blue flames to add to the attack power. She prefers to only use the blade when necessary as she is still a novice with a blade, and can be defeated by those who are semi-competent in swordsman ship.
There also exists three additional miscellaneous equipment in her arsenal : a box with 3 locks in her room, a kit of interrogation tools, and a customized repeating crossbow for long range combat.
She also has a belt of vials and syringes strapped across her left thigh containing a variety of chemicals and drugs.
Personality : If one were to come across Karin in the streets, they would be fooled by her seemingly innocent, young facade. If one were to look closely, they could perhaps see the eyes of the dead. After serving as a marine and a dog of both the World Nobles and Gorosei, there has been a great deal of the world she would have preferred never to seen.
In spite of this, Karin still attempts to act as courteous and friendly to her allies and the general populace. Dealing with most pirates and other criminals, one can see brief flares of her personality during fights and interrogations. Many pirates have been known to immediately confess to any crime after seeing either her kit or after seeing what had become of their friends. However, she is also pragmatic, and even decent when it comes to some pirates. It is whispered that she allows some pirates to live or escape of they prove to be useful, ostensibly to the World Government.
The only kind of people that draws the ire of Karin's anger more than the general murderous pirates are the World Nobles. Despite having one as a benefactor and working for them, she has nothing but contempt for them. It takes a great deal of self control and those around her to prevent her from acting out against the multitude of injustices that World Nobles incur. However, in public and in formal settings, she acts very submissive and obedient towards them to avoid any trouble.
Strengths and Abilities :
The greatest strength of Karin is her experience her agility and speed. This allows her brutal, fast, close quarters combat to overwhelm most opponents in single combat when she is forced into direct confrontations. She generally prefers to take her opponents down silently or through subterfuge , and failing that, have others take care of enemies. In long range engagements, Karin is a competent marksmen, but don't expect her to make miracle shots.
Another critical ability of hers is that of connections. Using her connections through the myriad networks in the Marines and the World Nobles, she is able to get almost anything she needs in locations with sufficient World Noble presence. She has a great deal of pull in both the Marine chain of command and most governments due to these connections, having even the ability to provide amnesty to criminals provided their bounties aren't above a certain threshold.
A final ability is the injections she takes. As a "volunteer" in an experiment, Karin has gained enhanced attributes that allow her to match more powerful foes in combat, and can be increased depending on how many more doses she injects. These generally last up to a hour per dose, and it exponentially decreases in time and effectiveness for each additional dose e.g 1 dose can give her a moderate boost in power for a hour , while 2 doses might last 30 minutes together, but give more power.
Weakness :
The greatest weakness Karin has is her dependence on her drug. Her dependence on it has gotten so large that she is forced to take injections every 12 hours, even outside of combat, and requires it against most opponents now. Without regular injections, she begins to become violently sick and go into seizures ; missing more than three doses can cause her to go into a coma, and anymore than that could possibly result in death. Due to experimentation and long term abuse of these drugs, her body has been slowly weakening. Her injuries heal slower, and she is far more sensitive to pain than before. The only cure to this remains additional dosages of the drugs which only exacerbates the situation. In theory, if one could cut off or otherwise deny her the supply of drugs, she would likely die.
Another weakness of Karin is her limited stamina. Having an increasingly frailer body, her stamina has been starting to decrease. Although she can continue to maintain fights, it is becoming more difficult to carry them out after a certain amount of time. If one could drag a fight out against her, she would most likely lose or be forced to withdraw.
A non-physical weakness would be Karin's inability to disobey orders from the Gorosei and the World Government. While she can twist and "
misinterpret" her superiors orders, she has been conditioned to obey the Gorosei and World Nobles, very much against her will. This clashes directly with her desire to wipe out the World Nobles, and has consequences upon both her physical and mental health.
History : The only people who know of her early history are those who have been granted access to her papers, and they are far and few. Most of her recent life has been a long ordeal. For uncertain reasons, she was sent to Impel Down at a seemingly young age, and was imprisoned on the Second Floor. After a few months, there was a competition that promised freedom to whoever won. A dead sphinx and many prisoners incapacitated later, Karin was rewarded with the distinction of being the first guinea pig in an experimentation hoping to boost the power of an individual soldier. After an interlude of near-deaths, a drug was successfully created from her data and the experiment was expanded. A World Noble decided to get in on the experiment and ended up buying Karin off the research group for an exorbitant amount of money on the understanding Karin would still remain part of the ongoing tests.
Although her new life as a dog under the leash of a World Noble was marginally better than being a lab rat, Karin slowly came to accept it and played with the cards she had been dealt with. After a period of servitude and practice under the World Noble, she was recommend to join the Marines. Through the Noble's connections, she was quickly accepted and given an unknown rank. Presented an exotic blade as a gift of surviving so far, she was finally given limited freedom. Now she generally hunts for the more dangerous pirates and carries out tasks that the Gorosei prefer not to give to the Ciper Pols.
