Introduction
Every one has different dreams as well. Some people have very surreal dream sequences with idiosyncratic objects relating in dissonant ways. Others have very visual dreams of great conquest or adventure; nightly romps into the fantastic and unknown. Still others dream in pure concept, with previously abstract and astounding ideas cohering into tangible forms of information that spur and astound the greatest imaginations.
Yet across all of these dreaming minds, there is no unity, no apparent connection that can be measured by any scientific means. The idea of a world of dream is nothing more than a fanciful legend to most, but it is here where most can be questioned. The power of dream cannot be argued, as there are some who have become permanently damaged or even killed because of that which they saw in dream. Sick and troubled minds escape to these twisted worlds of the unconscious to live free from the constraints of society, and it is in these individuals that the power of dream is most readily observed.
That is, of course, the doctrine behind the events of May 7th 2011. On this day, several tragedies ravaged the hapless town of Fredericton, which, on the large scale, seem completely unrelated except in timeframe. If one were to do some research, however, one would find the real reasons to be wrought from a seemingly unnatural depravity and devotion capable of unsettling even the staunchest of individuals. All the events and interactions leading up to that event suggest something eldritch and ominous, and it would thereafter to prove that something to wreak even more strangeness upon the world...and this strangeness belongs to you.
Jeff lurched out of bed and he still had writers block. This had long been a problem for the past couple of nights, doubly considering the fact that he had a term paper due in about six hours. The silent placidity of the dorms was a definite relief from the usual droning, bass line heartbeat that wracked the building most of the time. Still, that didn't solve the fact that he still didn't have a resolution to the final bits of his paper. Suddenly, he remembered the dream. There had been a darkness...and a voice. The visuals from the dream after that were hazy, but the notion of impending doom and strife dangled over his consciousness like a ravenous crow. Rubbing his face with a sigh, he tapped his aging computer into wakefulness. The unfinished sat there like a rock, unmoving and cold. Groaning heavily in defeat, he laid his head sleepily on his arms and let himself drift to sleep.
There was a sensation of falling through a haze, and slowly halting in mid air. Strange sounds formulated into language, similar, in fashion, to the world itself. He stood there in a shimmering paradox of geometry and light. Beams of iridescence reflected off of the glimmering, razor sharp walls. He looked around, and squinted as his eyes met with a purely radiant being. A warm breeze blew on his face, and the figure began speaking with something out of sight.
βIs this the one?β
There was a pause.
βI see...maybe not then. We'll have to wait until more is done, yeah?β
Jeff looked around to try and see who this figure was talking to. There was none, but the walls themselves seemed to resonate with a strange voice of their own.
βGood point...ew, he salivated on my arm...β the figure said loudly. It sounded like an old lady.
After that, Jeff slowly rose his head and looked at the computer screen. The screen saver was going, and silvery bands of light bounced around the window silently. Wiping some of his own drool off of his wrist, he sat up and looked around. Another dream. Sighing deeply, he slackened his jaw, took a shot of energy spray, and forced himself to finish up the paper...
The Point:
I'm hard pressed to say exactly what this RP is about, because I feel that revealing too many of the plot elements here will ruin the progressive story telling element that Rps are so great for. What I can say is that the basic theme is that you will play a person who, by day, is an average citizen. At night however, you are a Dreamer. The adventures you have in dreams with other Dreamers are completely influenced by your ability to bend the nature of the dream world to your will. In dream, you can literally make anything happen, but know that you are not the only one with such power. Since this RP starts from the beginning, your characters will start merely from being able to dream together and bend reality in minor ways, to amassing the power of gods, though this is harder than it sounds.
The RP starts with all the dreamers realizing that they dream together at night, so you should basically sign up without any dream world traits or ideas to your name. How you appear in your dreams is entirely variable and unlimited, so it would be good form to establish what you look like each time you start dreaming again. Remember, you're being granted near unlimited power in this RP; don't abuse it.
To alter things in the dream world, all a Dreamer has to do is concentrate their will power, and focus on the change or creation they desire, and it will come into existence naturally. The problem is that, even though anything is possible, it would take a lot of concentration to create, say, legions of foot soldiers and command them. Also, one cannot easily wish other objects out of existence or change them. This requires the Dreamer to overcome the will power of anyone focusing on suppressing the change.
Anyway, yes, this RP is more plot driven then anything else and I'd appreciate some great writing. If you want to sign up, please fill out the SU below, or you can write an entry that establishes what your character is about and how they go about their lives, as long as you get around to the fields addressed in the SU.
As for the Co GM, Zearen Wover will be playing that part for the purpose of story movement pending my absence. Please listen to him if he calls you out on an error.
As for making a character, here are a few pointers:
1. Your appearance in the dream world is highly variable and will likely change on a moment's notice...sometimes more than just your clothes. You don't have to make in depth descriptions for every new visage; just a general idea. Another note: In the waking world, you'll probably change clothes alot as well, so focus more on your physical appearance.
2. Because of the prior, the personality and history sections are what really count in this RP.
3. Again, because of the first pointer, equipment isn't too important either, but if your character has a special trinket or bauble that's very close to them, it could travel with them to the dream world.
So, let's see some signups!

Circ wrote:The description of this roleplay is very clear and has a nice opener. The plot is fairly original, balancing between the dream state and consciousness and the importance of each. There is a bit of mystery involved as the characters become more thoroughly defined through their interactions as to how their experiences are influencing their future. The writing is above par, the dialogue flows, and the story is engaging. Overall, this is an excellent RP.

His thoughts today, however, were not on his studies. They were on the dream he had had a few nights prior. A dream that was so lucid and real he felt as that if he closed his eyes, the vivid world would surge back into his mind. After this dream, he had looked up a few websites and discovered the idea of lucid dreaming, controlling the subconscious while asleep. Jeffery ultimately dismissed them as hoakey and somewhat contrived, trying to preserve a scientific outlook on the situation. The idea itself clung to him, however, and many times like now, he found himself musing over what the wild dream could have possibly meant. The world he had seem came to him even now as he closed his eyes, a world of shimmering silver and enigmatic light. Voices that weren't heard, but felt, and sights that were seemed part of Jeffery himself. He took a sharp breath, calling his academic mind back into concentration. He glanced at the clock, hoping he had not day dreamed for too long. There was work to be done...

βWhat 'cha got there, princess?β asked a ominous voice from behind.
Alex spun around to face his fear. There stood Travis, a mischievous grin on his face. This was not going to end well.
βMy lunch, and I don't like it when you call me princess,β Alex quiveringly replied.
βWho's lunch?β Travis demanded. Alex looked around. Much to his dismay Travis's entourage had already arrived, thus blocking the supervisors view. β'Cause that looks a lot like my lunch.β
βBut I'm really hungry, and I don't have any lunch tickets left,β Alex mumbled.
βShut up and give me your lunch, princess,β Travis said punching Alex in the shoulder. The blow jolted Alex enough to cause him to fumble and drop his lunch on the ground. Travis feigned a pout, before he continued βNow look what you did, you spilled my lunch. I think we need to talk about this out side.β He signaled his cronies to escort Alex. He rubbed his arm as he walked along the brutes in melancholy compliance. He stole a glance back at he flipped lunch, almost highlighted in the weird lighting. No one had noticed.

Samson reached into his pocket and took out a pencil and paper and started to look around for some inspiration. It had been awhile since he had checked out the Forest of Nightshade. So he slowly made his way over when a figure stepped out of clearing. Samson stopped and stared. "Shadow Man" he whispered and he worked up the nerve to continue walking. Samson had never seen the "Shadow Man" to appear in his dreams. This time it was different as Samson walked closer so did the Shadow Man
When they were both finally in front of each other Samson noticed that this figure had no face. It was completely covered in darkness. There were no features visible such as a nose or ears. Then it a appeared a grin that took up almost the entire face. "Hello Samson" he spoke with a silky voice that seemed almost snake-like. "I've been waiting for you" The smile didnt waver nor did it seem threatening, which eccentuated the possible danger. Samson made a mental note to remember to draw it as soon as he woke up.
"Who are you" Samson asked with excitement in his voice. It grinned again. "I'm you, or at least the you that you are going to become. I'm your future. Take my hand and let the lessons begin"
The sound of some beeping filled the scarlet sky. "Dang it"
Samson Keen turned his head towards the small table by the bad. He stared at the clock with such much contempt that he was surprised it didn't break from it.

After drawing several versions, Samson got up and went to the kitchen to get some breakfast. he lived in a two person flat but he didn't have any flat mate. He was lucky enough to find a editor/sponsor for his graphic novel he was working on and he was being paid quite well for doing what he loved to do.
It was a good life.
At least that is what others would say.
Samson wanted a different life where horror and monsters were an everyday thing. Where he knew the secrets of the Shadow Man?
Samson finished pondering what the secrets might be and ate his scrambled eggs and toast. He wasn't tired, unfortunately, so he decided to go out for a walk.
Before leaving Samson took another look at his pictures of the Shadow Man, in front of the forest. He suddenly realized there were other figures in the background. Nothing scary or abnormal, they seemed like ordinary people, but he couldn't make out anything else. He sighed and grabbed his keys and made his way to the elevator.
"Well, maybe I'll meet those people another time. I think I'll go the park, there are usually some nice looking ladies around there."

And Maisie was in a forrest. She could hear the wind blowing through the trees, feel the sweet summer air around her.
This was green, and Maisie could feel it, so close she could almost see it, swirling around the airy blue of the sky, the specks of red that fell in and out of the green, the apples. And even the scuffling of the squirrils across the floor around her, brown dashes running in and out of the green she was so close too seeing them. Too anyone else, this picture Maisie had painted in her head, the picture of her dreams, was nothing, a swirl, a pattern, an abstract. But this is how Maisie saw, in her dreams.
But then the brown scuffling stopped, the blue stopped swirling, and the green swayed to a stop. But the brilliant red of the apples stayed, and omniously pulsed, expanding, growing and growing untill the blood red of apples consumed the green, the blue, the brown. Maisie wasn't imaganing anymore, she could see it. The crimson wound its self around her, there when she closed her eyes, when she tried to look away. The colour of blood was suffogateing her, so much so she couldn't breath, cry out for help. Then she heard a low, terrifieing voice, though it was impossibly shrill wispering into her ear.
"You can't dream for much longer, Maisie. Because the dream is over." The voice paused, and the red swirled around back into a world black "Because the nightmare is only just beginning."
Maisie woke up screaming.

Samson found a nice tree and let himself lay down. "Let's see if I can close the deal this time," he said with a evil grin. The power of nightmares would be quite helpful with his horror graphic novel. He closed his eyes and let his body slip into a relaxed state.
Soon he thought and then he was out.

I just found this thread scrolling down a little on the home page. Dreams have always fascinated -- and frustrated -- me. My friend taught me several tricks for lucid dreaming but I don't have the knack for it, and it takes years to achieve too...
And the possibilities seem truly fantastic.
Er, anyway, if you don't need another roleplayer, I could stick around and lurk. It seems like it'd make a great story too.
Re: [OOC] Oneironauts
Re: [OOC] Oneironauts
As for the plot...yeah, I suppose I can afford to say a few things. The basic idea is that six or so individuals meet in their dreams when they fall asleep at night, and within these dreams they encounter beings called Dreamons, who are enigmatic inhabitants of the dream world. The dreamons cannot interact with the waking world, but ask the dreamer's help in solving problems in both the dream world and, and in the waking world. The plot will get far more involved than that, but there's the basic premise. I suppose I thought the idea of a lucid dreaming RP would be enough, but, ah well, I suppose nobody's perfect. :P
