Setting

After receiving letters on their significant other’s place in the war, both the Prince Libra and Princess Aries contemplate on how their emotions came to being.

Two years before the war, upon gaining a place as the Princess Aries, Alexis was tasked with visiting the Libra kingdom. She had heard little of those plains, having visited for a very little amount of time for training. She visits now to establish kingdom relations, having heard the war would break out soon. If Gemini chose a side against them, wouldn’t it be wise to gain more allies with agricultural resources? She had intended for the trip to be solely business, superficial smiles and all.

She was a fool for thinking that.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

The door to the study opened, a young man entering. “Princess, a message from our sources.”

Alexis hummed happily, having been leaning back in her seat and whittling a little soldier for her battle board. She glanced upward a bit, noting who had entered, before nodding and returning to her small activity. The call for war had put her in a good mood. She had many allies. No one would dare turn against her. “Hit me with it,” she answered, a smile playing on her lips.

“According to our sources, the Prince Libra has decided to side with the King.”

Her blade halted in its movements. Her eyes turned upward as she slowly lowered her chair to its proper position. “The Prince Libra? The ally we JUST made?” She asked, disbelief riddling her voice and confusion in her eyes.

The messenger nodded, bowing. “Yes, Princess… The ally we just made.” He placed the letter on her desk, slowly taking in her reaction. Alexis glanced at the letter, showing slight signs of worry, before shrugging and leaning back in her chair, whittling her little soldier. “Princess?” The man asked, shocked at her apathy of the topic. Wasn’t she and the Prince Libra…?

“Yeah?” Alexis answered, not seeming perturbed by the idea.

“Are you… all right?” The messenger asked on, skeptical over her reaction. Was she just putting up a front? Didn’t they know each other enough to-

“Of course,” Alexis answered, not allowing her eyes to stray from the blade edge digging into the wood, shaping and carving it. Her fingers worked at a steady pace, no faster, no slower than before. “This changes nothing. We shall continue to side with the Queen and we shall win at it.” She glanced up, grinning. “He means nothing to me.”

Alexis glanced out the window, amazed at the sea of green that surrounded her. Was this the Libra kingdom? Her hair constantly flew at her face at even the slightest glance out the window but she didn’t mind all that much. The air was refreshing, albeit the ever present breeze annoying. There was a sense of freedom here she had never expected to encounter before. She took a long, heavy breath before letting it out. Alexis wasn’t even fidgeting in her seat like she used to. The air itself made it feel like she were always moving.

But no! That was not what she was here for. Alexis had been sent in regards to the approaching war: gain allies outside of the Gemini kingdom to have a stable source of food. Scorpio’s trade were always an option but the Aries army needed nationally grown foods. They couldn’t depend on something they couldn’t seize themselves. Hell, even Alexis didn’t know how to swim! But they had to work off of their strengths.

As they drew near the location, Alexis glanced out and looked around. It was still a sea of grass…? No, wait! A clearing came through and the carriage pulled to a stop. She could see people gathering, staring. She rolled her eyes. Might as well come in with an entrance. The door opened and Alexis stepped out, her dress highly unfit for the occasion. She laughed at the looks people gave her, not denying that she herself looked extremely ridiculous. “Where is the Prince Libra?” Alexis called, a grin reaching from ear to ear. She wouldn’t let her appearance bring down the festivities.

Dressed in traditional Librian robes, a young woman paced back and forth within the courtyard of the home of Caesar. Unfortunately, the prince was not there and had been gone for quite some time. He promised he would be back in time but knowing him, that was a unsure promise. The woman then paused shivering slightly. They were already here and still no sign of Caesar. She bowed and laughed a bit hearing the Arian princess.

"A-A Princess. Please do make yourself at home. The festivities are about to begin. We thank you again for joining us for this joyous moment of the blooming. As for the prince...." She gulped slightly. "A bit of a hold up. You know how royal duties can be hehe. Oh, please, my manners. I am Ke'Lau. The prime minister." She bowed once again before escorting her to the large decorative doors leading to the dinning area.

A small group of men began to explore the outskirts of the kingdom. They paused hearing a familiar sound knowing exactly who it was. They hiked their way up the hill until seeing Caesar siting before the soon to bloom flowers playing his float and reclining on various bottles of drinks. "There he is! Caesar! Your being expected you know!"

Caesar paused slightly while lowering his flute. "Huh?.... OH DAMMIT!" He said before quickly standing and dashing his way back to his home. He had completely lost track of time admiring the soon to rise buds of the flowers. He loved those flowers and hoped that their legend was real. One day he would come to them for guidance but for now a certain princess was expecting him.

She nodded in thanks to the prime minister, a bit insulted the Prince of Libra did not remember to come himself. Did he really care that little of their relations? No matter, this treaty would come to fruition. Alexis would be determined that it did happen.

Her eyes scanned the area, curious. So, this was how Libras lived? She felt an appreciation of the aesthetic kind but did not delve any more deeply into it. This was solely business. Alexis hummed, hearing the sound echoing off the walls. Quite curious... So the Libra people liked music? She shook her head, surprised by the amount of thoughts she had.

"I find no offense for his tardiness. It is a festival after all. I should have brought some clothes to change into myself. As you can see... I find myself overdressed for the occasion." Meeeeh elegant words. She didn't like formal talk but she had to give a good impression. Alexis signed, looking over at the prime minister. "Will the Prince Libra come sometime soon?"

The prime minister smiled. "Oh it's no problem at all princess. We do not judge. Just having you here is more than enough honor." She said with a small smile. She then cleared her throat a bit. "The prince should be here in no time. Just fashionable late I sup-"

She paused slightly hearing the large doors open. Caesar stood still a bit buzzed but dapperly dressed for the evening. He grumbled slightly before making his way to his chair and adjusting his shirt before siting. He hated dressing to stiffly but he had first impression to make; or ruin. His hair tightly placed in a ponytail and floating behind him.

The prime minister smiled. "Ah. Prince Caesar has arrived. We have been expecting you sir." She said before pausing at the sound of Caesar yawning loudly. He raised his arms and stretched slightly trying to get himself together. She cleared her throat. "Yes well the princess has also been waiting for you."

Caesar rubbed his eyes slightly before looking over to the girl across the table. He hadn't seen her before. He looked at the prime minister before slowly pointing at her. The woman nodded. "Yes sir. That is the princess of Aries. Miss Alexis Aries." The servants began to bring out the food and wine for the evening for the officials and festival attenders. Caesar looked to Alexis giving a long stare.

She didn’t know what to think.

As she was seated at the long table, the Prince Libra appeared, fixing whatever he was wearing, his strange hairdo making a sort of… Puff like appearance to his hair? She had caught herself staring before anyone else did and watched as the Prince’s yawn emerged. Was her kingdom serious? Dear God, what she did for her country. Alexis instead took the time to tune him out and examine the area around them.

The hall was lively with those participating in the festivities. Apparently, she hadn’t overdressed for the occasion. Her eyes followed trays as servants balanced them delicately on finger tips. Everyone seemed to be relaxing, a feeling Alexis could feel emanating from the crowd and oozing into her own attitude. It wouldn’t be so bad- after all, it was a celebration of some sort.

Her eyes once more returned to the Prince Libra’s, widening a bit to find he was staring at her… Very intently? The attention he had on her reminded her of… Oh, don’t tell me he drank before this. Sparks of anger flashed behind her eyes but she instead smiled at the other, hiding the venomous factor for the time being. ”My full name is actually Princess Alexis Conall Aries,” she added, not hesitant in the introduction. She found the way he was staring at her a bit…

Yes, I’m going to assume he’s drunk, Alexis concluded. He is drunk and decided to show up for this meeting. I’m not sure if that’s moxie or just a full out insult. Then again, the man could of been doing such in the spirit of the holidays. Nevertheless, she wasn’t one for talking. Alexis rose from her seat. ”Excuse me, Prince Libra, I’m going to use the restroom. I’ll be right back.”

Caesar continued to look to the girl before clearing his throat. Her name was quite familiar. Now it was coming back to him.

"My my. So you are the beautiful Alexis Aries that I have heard so much about." He smiled slightly before hearing Ke'Lau clear her throat. He grumbled under her breathe. He hated when she decided to stop his flirting. She was almost like a second mother.

As he heard her excuse herself, he smiled and sat back in his chair before reaching out and picking up his glass. "Please do take your time princess. My home is yours as of now. Do what makes you feel comfortable." He said giving a warm smile.

The servants began to instruct her as to where the restrooms were. As she was gone, Caesar hummed as he listened to the merryment taking place around him. He wondered when the flowers would bloom. Someone was in charge of keeping watch of the Aromals and informing the guards when the first bulb opens.

He awaited the princess arrival. He wondered how it was going so far. Not many ventured to the simple kingdom that Libra's lived in. However, many wondered how the land was since it was so flourishing with each waking day.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

She nearly choked from laughter when he opened his mouth. Was he attempting to flirt with her? That concept was just… Ridiculous! She cracked a smile as she pushed in her chair and nodded. ”I shall return soon, Prince Libra. Before the festival ends, I assure you.” That said, she followed the attendants to the bathroom. In truth, she had wanted to escape the table solely due to the Prince Libra’s… Slight intoxication? Could it have been from the festivities? Either way, Alexis couldn’t say she liked that aspect. Drinking numbed the mind, the body, the soul. She couldn’t handle it and the taste of Arian alcohol, though somewhat popular, disgusted her.

Alexis washed her hands and face, looking into a mirror and smoothing her hair. She wasn’t one for looking pretty… So why didn’t she cut it! “Alexis, now YOU’RE sounding drunk.” She shook her head, going out the door and grinning to the servant waiting for her. “Let’s get back to the dinning area.” Alexis paused as they began to walk before saying, “Hey, what’s this festival for again?”

Carefully, she listened about how the Amorals were revered in this kingdom, a grin climbing into her face as she likened the pride to her kingdom and their fire flowers. Though… The Amorals seemed to lie on the sappy side. Flowers of devotion and loyalty? Only bloomed during a “blood moon”? Ok, the blood moon part seemed very cool but the whole tradition of the proposal and the guarantee to marriage was off to her. She found marriage restricting and even if she did, her duty lied with her kingdom- which meant no relationships as Prince or Princess.

As she returned, Alexis once more sat down at the table, grinning at the Prince in front of her. The conversation with the servant had recharged her and she was very much interested in getting this Prince to speak. “I’m grateful for getting invited here. The festival seems to have lifted the Libra spirits by a large amount."

Caesar hummed as he watched the princess leave. He stood and began to move about greeting the many people who came to observe the flowers. It was a lovely evening and he could tell a few lucky ladies would be proposed to that night. Many men stood nervous and sweat. Yep, tonight would be the new beginning for many. He sat down near a window and sighed happily stretching out before seeing the princess return.

"Ahh welcome back princess." He then smiled pointing in the distance. "He's going to propose tonight. I can see the nervousness in his eyes. Man, it sure does take a lot of courage to even do this. I applaud him." He then began to drink before smiling happily. He stood from his chair and smiled.

"Ah what are we doing out here all anti-social! Princess, would you give me the undying honor of a dance?" He said as he offered his hand and smirked.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

She looked over, staring at the pit stained men who fidgeted like children. Alexis rolled her eyes. "They should be fine. After all, your kingdom has deep belief in these flowers. Wasn't it a 'guarantee'?" She asked, slipping out of her formal tone. The moment was just too sappy yet she couldn't help admire their belief in their kingdom's flowering plant. It was almost similar to the blooming of the fire flowers. Then again, those were entirely related to political matters. This was about selling your life away for marriage.

As the Prince Libra spoke again, Alexis turned her attention to him. She blinked a bit in surprise. A dance? A grin broke across her features as she placed her hand in his. "If you want to dance, don't feel the need to hide it behind big words. Dancing sounds fun." Alexis loved being social at parties but a dance wouldn't hurt. And after all, this was a political meeting and the best way to be political would be getting under someone else's skin. "I take it you've lead many dances like this?"

Image

He smirked. "Yeah it is a guarantee but you know, asking a gal to marry ya, that's a real strong even if it's a certain yes. It's a... Moment of weakness for a man ya know? Showing that you will and can devote your eternity to one being. It's poetic and odd."

He then bowed slightly and smirked kissing her hand and giving a wink before twirling her and wrapping his arm around her waist while holding the other outward. "Very well~! Let's dance then."

He stuck his tongue out before leading her out to the ballroom floor. He began to dance along with the joyful music.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

'Oh, look, it's a hopeless romantic,' she thought as she listened to him. Why so intent on just one man? Did he want such a life? At least he was right about that being a 'weak point.' But commitment was commitment.

Before she could breathe a response, she found lips on her hand and an arm around her waist as she was whisked off. Dammit! She distracted herself! The other enjoyed the dance, unaware of her surprise let alone her discomfort. Alexis put on a smile, placing her hand on the Prince Libra's shoulder and pushing him back so his hand around her waist settled on her hip. "Keep your lips to yourself and I shall not rip them off, Prince Libra. We are having such a good time. Let us not ruin it," Alexis commented, a burning ire building in her chest. How dare he insult her in such a way? Did he think it 'manly' to treat her like a spoiled little heiress? A Princess was a leader, not a goddamn doll! It was a small thing but blatant disrespect like this made her want to fume. She could push it off but not again. Alexis concentrated on the rhythm of the music, moving along to it.

He puffed his cheeks lightly. Great, she was a stiffy and no fun. He had a problem with girls like that. They usually were the book-driven savage made of pure complexion who preferred to kill men instead of spend time with them. "Fufufu no need to be so shy princess. I won't bite or anything." He said backing away anyway. He smirked and continued to lead her across the floor.

He smirked. "Ruin it? Oh not at all~! I plan to enjoy the night." He then looked over to the musicians giving a slight tired look. That was usually the signal to stop the sappy slow music and play something more upbeat; and that they did. Soon many of the partiers began to laugh and cheer as they twirled and danced to the upbeat song.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

“No biting intended,” Alexis responded as she relaxed her arms but remained vigilant. She glanced over at the musicians as they began to play something of a quicker tempo, sending joy through the crowds. Interesting enough. Her smile relaxed as she allowed the Prince to lead, following after him. The Libra kingdom differed very much from her own. Of course, they had their celebrations too but this felt more free flowing than she usually witnessed.

“You can pick up the pace as you want,” she added, noticing how the other dancers had quickened their steps in tune with the music. “I can keep up. And what is the name of this song?” Alexis had never been one for music but this song sounded interesting. She could listen to it before a work out or something along those lines. It was invigorating, in a way.

He smirked and happily spun and danced quite fitting to his personality. The crowd enjoyed it that's for sure. "It's Blue Moon music. Haven't you heard it before?" He asked before circling around her in a similar form used for salsa dancing. He hummed innocently before lightly bumping into the princess' side. "Oops." He said giving a slight wink in a teasing manner.

He swayed slightly as he backed away engaging in a small solo dance. The crowd seemed to have circled around the two royals dancing now as if they were the two sights to see. Once Caesar was finished, he bowed again motioning his arm to Alexis. "Your move princess. Beat that."

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

She followed his steps as he lead, moving in rhythm, even if it was a bit stiff. She wasn't used to this sort of dancing. More like singing equally badly in front of a troupe of soldiers by a bonfire, celebrating a certain event or something small. The blooming of the fire flowers? Not as momentous as this occasion seemed to the Librians. "Never heard of Blue Moon music before. It's interesting to say the least," she explained before he suddenly changed the dance. Alexis followed awkwardly at first, not sure her dress was appropriate for such a dance and nearly loosing her balance when he bumped into her. No! Concentration! She worked to keep up, trying to make some sense of the dance. But... It was enjoyable.

As the dance ended, she gave a small smile, glad it was over. Then, the Prince Libra offered for her to take the lead. Alexis thought a moment, contemplating over the recent emotion that came over her, before shaking her head. "I prefer you to lead. I do not dance much and I like it when you assist me." Ah, sting of pride. Doesn't matter. Better than making a fool of herself.

Image
Image

He paused and looked to her before smiling. She must not have been much of a dancer. He smirked and circled her before standing a few inches behind her. "Alright then. Allow me to give you a hand princess. And don't worry, I won't get upset if you step on my feet or whatever." He said as he offered his hands behind her arms. He took her's and intertwined their fingers before taking a deep breath.

"Just relax and let your feet do all the work. Ok? Left then right. Right then left." He said with a playful smile before moving along with her. He didn't move too quickly and decided to take it at a pace that was more comfortable for her. As they moved back and forth, Caesar couldn't help but feel like a teacher of some sort.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

She could almost die from embarrassment. She had to be taught how to dance while all these people already knew how. Then again, she went to parties where you talked a lot instead of danced. Alexis didn't like dancing because she couldn't understand it. Yes, there were mechanics but it lacked that need for call and response she felt when fighting. She didn't know how to think when she danced. "Don't need to treat me like a kid. I won't step on your toes."

Alexis followed what he said, going forward and backward. This looked almost like fighting footing? But different? She didn't understand how it was supposed to look with all these people watching but she wasn't going to back off now. Just concentrate. After getting the hang of it to some extent, she stole a glanced back to see if there was anything else.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

“I can still do better,” Alexis thought aloud as the song drew to a close and she joined the chorus of applause. She looked around at those laughing as they moved effortlessly across the dance floor. “I’ll continue to work on it so next time I can lead a dance.” She said this more to herself than to Caesar, determined not to let such a trifling thing upset her if she were to come here again.

Looking around, Alexis hummed a bit. “Prince Libra, let us walk around a bit. The music is amazing but its starting to get a bit crowded in here.” She did want to explore the rest of the Libra kingdom. After all, she had not stayed long there during her travels because the Gemini kingdom had been more renowned in its arts and grain than its military. But there were still quite a bit to see. “Mind if you show me around?”

Image
Image

He paused and nodded. "Well sure. I'll show you around the kingdom. We can't go too far though or else I'll get a search party or something." He rolled his eyes and then smiled motioning her to follow him. He then smiled. "You know how to ride a horse right?" He said before grabbing a bottle of alcohol and leading her to the stables.

He smirked and showed her the various horses calmly gathered in an open area. "As you know the kingdom's pretty spacey, so it's not like we can walk around and be in the fields already. We'll have to take horses if we want to actually SEE something." He smirked and patted the head of one of them.

Princess Alexis Conall Aries

She followed after him, a small grin on her face. "I don't mind. Not like we're going to die out here so we can leave the worrying to them. And yes. I know how to ride a horse." Did he think she could do nothing? She ran the Aries kingdom for god's sake. As he lead away to the stables, she caught him snatching a bottle of alcohol and moving off. Well, he seemed really fond of the drink. Then again, probably a lot of alcohol was better than Arian rum.

As he approached one horse, Alexis followed, examining the creature as well. She made sure to approach the horse where it could see her, staying to its side as she came closer cautiously. A hand reached out, slowly.
