Description

Name: Rikimaru Okawa

Appearance: Image

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Personality: Rikimaru or Chosen as his friends call him, exudes and quite strength and is hardly seen by people his age. Confident and brave to a fault, he lives by a code of conduct that was instilled him by years of marital arts training. He only speaks to his friends and those he finds worth the time talking to, this too is also governed by his code of conduct. Even then, his words aren't too many for the most part. To those that meet his code is loyal forever. To him they are family, the rest isn't worth what a pig what spit. He is without a doubt smart and his presence commands a certain authority. When something isn't right to him, he will find out what it is. He does his best to lead an honorable and good life. Despite all of the above characteristics he isn't the best man in charge. In his mind he works best as a 2nd in command. In this role he flourishes like few others.

Bio: Born on the US Air Force Base in Okinawa. He lost both his parents in a car crash before he was even a year old. He was adopted by a friend of the family who owned and ran a dojo not far off base. Since he could walk he has been training and fighting. His nickname β€œChosen” came from the fact that he was always chosen to be first in any drill or training. For about 19 years, he trained and went to school living with that thought that he had no family. He came to Tokyo to attend the a small school and get a fresh start. He is trained in ninjutsu, though he is no where the greatest fighter, he is an extremely well rounded fighter.

"Rikimaru, answer your phone!" A voice yelled from across the gym. her name was Kirijo, something Kirijo. Rikimaru thought decent of her. They were by no means friends but Kirijo wasn't on the never say a word to list either.

Rikimaru put his hand up and open. His palm facing Kirijo. Soon the phone came flying towards him. It flow perfectly into his hand as he closed his fingers around it. He found that he had a text message. It was odd, few people had his number and they all knew when he trained. Everyone pretty much left him alone when he was training, be it alone or other people. Unlocking his phone, Rikimaru made the necessary movements to get to his text messages.

He read his message. He could not understand what exactly it was supposed to mean. It was someone or something DEM. Who that was or what it was completely escaped him. β€œAwaken....and find the true path in the world...”

"Pair up and spar. Five minutes. Help each other." His voice was firm and slightly cold. He was training some other people from the University. For him teaching people the basics was an easy to make enough money to get whatever he needed and live a little better than the normal student. Few people have stuck around long enough to teach them anything truly meaningful. Plus, he got what he was really after. A good supply of people to train and spar with. Even though he was the teacher, he knew deep down that the learning never really stopped.

Rikimaru got his things together and walked out of the gym. His mind was deep in thought about that text message. It was at best random, at worst it was spam. The University was a pretty nice place over all. He enjoyed walking around it, he would do just that in hopes of clearing his mind.

The professor in Mitsuru's class ended it and looked up at her.
"Okazaki?" he says. The pretty, black-haired girl keeps her head straight ahead.
"Yes Yamakoto-sensei?"
"Do you need help getting to Kotaku-chan?"
Mitsuru unfolds her walking cane, "No, thank you sensei. He's outside, right?"
"As always, Okazaki."
Mitsuru nods as she stands up, waving her cane back and forth across the floor until she reaches the classroom door. She feels around for the handle and turns it when she feels it in her palm. She hears a familiar bark when she opens the door. Smiling, Mitsuru reaches around to find her dog's guide leash. Grabbing it, she begins to walk.
"Come on Kotoku-chan." she says. He walks in front of her.

They head toward the cafeteria. All of a sudden, Kotoku runs forward, making Mitsuru let go of his leash. The black dog darts past Rikimaru barking at squirrel that he had seen. Mitsuru panics and runs after him.
"Kotoku! Wait!" Naturally, she trips on something and falls down in front of Rikimaru, dropping her books and yelping as she falls.

Rikimaru looked up at the sky as if to say "Really?" He bent down wordlessly and gathered the books that the girl had dropped. He ignored the sounds of pain she made. There wasn't anything he could do to help the girl. Nothing he could say or do would take the pain away.

He finished gathering the books and papers. Rikimaru looked up towards the dog. He beamed angrily at the dog and whistled. The animal came running back just as happy as he when he ran off. Petting the dog, Rikimaru could only wish to be as happy as that stupid dog.

"Are you alright girl? Can you get up"? Rikimaru said in his calm, cool voice. Standing up with one hand filled the girls things. The other extended to help her up.

"Are you alright girl? Can you get up?" Mitsuru hears a boy talking to her and feels that he is nearby.
"Oh, yeah I'm fine. Kotoku-chan ran and I wasn't ready for it." She pushes herself up carefully and stands still. She stares forward and taps her leg.
"Kotoku-chan, come." Mitsuru says this forcefully and he comes walking over, tail between his legs. He sits by her side and barks to Rikimaru, thanking him for petting him. Mitsuru stands, a bit upset-looking, her bangs covering her eyes.
"Where did my books get to..." she asks.

"Sensei Chosen, are you alright?" Kirijo came out of the gym shouting, a worried on his face. After looking at the situation it was clear that Kirijo worry was unfounded. His look of worry was replaced with sorrow when he saw the girl getting up from the ground.

Only turning his head half way back. "Go back inside and don't call me Sensei ." Rikimaru told Kirijo dismissively.

Looking back at the girl, Rikimaru spoke to her with that same calm tone. "I have your books....." Something wasn't right about this girl. Was she blind or stupid. Hopefully she was just blind. "Better blind than stupid." Rikimaru thought to himself. At any right this girl seemed like the decent type. Seemed being the keyword here.

"Oh! Thank you." Mitsuru says with a smile, "Could you hand them to me? I don't usually ask for help, I'm sorry. I'm blind, but I usually do everything by myself or try to."

Konoku barks and presses his body against her leg, walking forward and leading her to Rikimaru. She strokes his head and flicks the bangs from her face, revealing her cloudy, unseeing eyes.
"I'm Okazaki Mitsuru by the way." she says with a smile, "better to know my name than to just call me 'girl'. I take it you're either an informal teacher or a student by the way you verbally dismissed the one calling you sensei."

"Sensei implies mastery. I have no mastery of anything, thus no use for a title." Rikimaru said with a slight edge of softness. Her cloudy eyes were just another set to him. In his mind her blindness was only mildly noteworthy.

"Some think otherwise." This time his voice was much harsher. It was clearly directed at Kirijo.

"Sorry Sensei." Kirijo said now sorry he had even stepped out of the gym. For his efforts all he got was a glare that scared him bad enough to make him leave without another word. Just a bow.

When he left Rikimaru turned back to the girl....Okazaki Mitsuru was her name. "Mitsuru are you able to walk home?" A scowl was still on Rikimaru's face.

Mitsuru smiles when he says her name.
"Yeah I should be fine." her phone buzzes and she reaches it, "oh, hang on."
She presses a few buttons and a mechanical voice reads her message aloud, "Awaken....and find the true path in the world...Sender: DEM"
Mitsuru gets a disgruntled look on her face, "Huh...that's weird...I don't know anyone by that name..." she puts the phone back in her pocket, "Must be a wrong number."

Konoku scratches his ear. He hears a voice ring in his head saying the same thing.

"Same message and sender..... Was someone watching?" Rikimaru thought to himself, the scowl slowly dissipate. Replace with bewilderment, Rikimaru couldn't help be wonder if there was a connection. Good thing she was blind lest he look angry, cold and confused all at the same time. There was something to the message that was much was clear. Whatever that something was, it was most certifiably not on the up and up. He noted the smile as he started to look from object to object, person to person hoping to at lest get an outside clue. He knew he was going to find anything, but you have to show up to do a bad job.

"Must be... Easy my mind if you let me walk you home." His voice was soft, or he gave effort to make it sound as much. Was it her safety or the riddle of the message and what it could mean that was of interest. Either way all she knew was a nickname. Another place to train and make a little side money would be an easy fix.

"Um, sure if you want!" Mitsuru said grabbing a hold of Kotoku's leash. She often got people asking her if she needed help or if they could walk her home once they found out she was blind. She didn't mind it though, she liked the company most of the time. After all, it's not like she had anyone to go home to. Up until two years ago when she got Kotoku, she was alone. She had inherited her house from her family, but sometimes she just felt so terribly alone and haunted by her past.

Hiding this, she smiled and began to walk with Rikimaru. Kotoku walked a bit in front of her, making sure he kept a watch for anything troublesome. Or squirrel-like. He pants and wags his tail slightly. Kotoku loved Mitsuru unconditionally, not only because she was his owner, but because he was her brother. Unfortunately, his overwhelming dog urges changed his personality a bit from what he was when he was alive, but it was good enough for him. He was with his twin sister whether he was a dog or not.

Rikimaru stayed quite for the most part. Partly for fear of breaking his thought pattern. Partly for lack of something to say. It's not that he didn't like her. He just didn't have anything to say to her.

He was impressed with how she got around between the dog and the cane it was a wonder that she could adapt. Rikimaru wonder how atune her other facilities were. His uncle had told him great stories about the blind but none were ever proven.

The walk for the most was uneventful. He wondered how much of a henderence she would be if something were to happen. He was more hopefully of the dog getting her home than he was he was of it helping him.

Of all the thoughts going through his head he still couldn't shake that text message. He had heard a string of Strange murders have been happening lately but this was a huge city. Things happen here everyday, good or bad.

They walked through the city and turned down a street that lead away. After a few minutes, a gravel path was in front of them. Kotoku lead as they walked down and into view came a house just a few feet away from them. There were a few other houses nearby, but they were far apart. It was quiet and calm, birds could be heard singing and the path to the home was laced with cherry blossom trees. Mitsuru smiled as she smelled the flowers blooming.
"By the smell I could assume we've arrived." Mitsuru says, Kotoku stopping at the front door. She turns to Rikimaru, "Would you like to stay for some tea? I hate making you walk all the way here without something to fuel your walk back."

As they enter the home, they walk into the main dining room. Through the sliding doors was the bedroom. Dropping Kotoku's leash, Mitsuru effortlessly walks into the house and straight to the teapot where she reaches for some green tea leaves. It is almost as if she can see everything by the way she moves around. Kotoku sits down near the sliding doors and watches as she carefully prepares the tea.

Once it is finished, she walks to the table and sets the small kettle down also placing two cups down. She places everything perfectly and sits on her knees on the floor pillow, placing her hands on her legs. There is silence before she speaks.
"Not much of a talker, huh?"

"the reward for always listening when you'd rather be talking, is wisdom." Rikimaru said while looking g around the room. It really was a beautiful place.

He took a sip of his tea, it wasn't bad by any means. "Where's your family? Hate to give the wrong impression." Rikimaru was walking around the room. Taking in everything that he could. Of he ever had to come back here. At lest he would have an idea of where everything was.

Satosha casually walked towards the cafeteria, his hands in his jacket pockets. The campus was lively, as it usually was, with students running around with their friends. Satosha smirked at the thought. Even though there were students who were friendly with him, there were none he could openly call a comrade. This used to bother him in high school, but not anymore. He had come to the conclusion that those with strength will be labeled delinquents or bad guys, and people tend to avoid those types. Satosha realized that to be strong and just is a lonely path.

"Ah well, not like friends would do me much good at this point." Satosha's ears then picked up a conversation, talking about the same text message he had just received. "Odd, must be a chain message going around." He muttered to himself. He shook it off and continued to the cafeteria. He entered the building, grabbed a tray and some food, and sat down alone at a table at the far end. Satosha decided that he would hurry and finish his meal then head back to his apartment and call it a night.

"Where's your family? Hate to give the wrong impression."
Family. Right. That. Mitsuru looks down when she hears that word. She often thought of them when she was home, but to hear someone actually say the word made her heart sink. She is quiet for a few seconds before speaking.

"It's uh...it's just me." Mitsuru sighs, not knowing if he would want her to go on. Not only that, but she wasn't quite sure if she wanted to tell the story again. It's not that she told it often. She very rarely hung out with people because of the whole, being blind, thing. But she would get asked questions like,
"Don't you ever spend time with your family?" or "Won't your parents worry if you're not home?" or "Can I come over for tea and meet your family?" That brought up the memory that, for years, she had tried to block out. But she spoke again, figured he needed to hear it.

"My...my family and I got in a car accident when I was seven..." she paused, swallowing her grief, "I survived, but my parents, sister, and twin brother didn't make it. I lost my eyesight because of a head injury I got from the crash."

"Seven?" Rikimaru said flatly, almost like asking how much something was a gas station. "Cherish the memories. I never knew mine." His voice was almost hardened. Hardened with a hint of sadness. The only real emotion he had shown all day. Even then it was very slight. He wasn't unemotional or sociopathic, he just doesn't ever let his guard down around those he doesn't trust. A wall of stone is better than one of twigs and leaves.

Rikimaru was still looking around the living room. Now he was up and moving. Inspecting everything with his eyes. He figured that if he touched anything she would hear. He noted that the dog was now facing outside. Not running, not walking, but sat facing a stand of trees in the shallow distance. This dog was either amazingly smart or well trained. Rikimaru was hoping for smarts.

Looking up at where he thought the dog was looking. He couldn't confirm or say with any certainty but he thought he could make out a figure in the trees. Was it related to the text messages. It was still in his head. It have been related but just as easy it could be a robber or rapist or murder. In a city this size there was no telling. He would keep quite about it for now. If the person stuck around then Rikimaru would say something. Or just.... Ask him to leave nicely.

"I do. I just miss it sometimes." Mitsuru says. She hears him stand and begin walking around, "You can touch things, just make sure you put them back where they were. It helps me." She smiles when she says this. She sighs slightly, taking a few sips of her tea. She can feel that he is uneasy.

"Something wrong?" she asks, feeling that he has stopped. Kotoku stood and warily walked to the door. The black dog growled as he stared down the intruder outside.
"Koto-chan?"

"How long have you lived alone?" If there was somebody out there, it could be a neighbor or someone she lived with. He had a really hard getting his head around how she lived completely alone for any length of time. At least in his mind, one would think you'd need help periodically.

He watched the dog growl as the hairs stood on the back of his neck. "Easy..." Rikimaru trailed off and looked ahead. He was hoping to find someone, or see a shadow running in the other direction. He half way thought he should chase whoever it was down and beat the unholy hell out of them.

Mitsuru hears Kotoku and is uneasy, but seeing as she had two people to protect her, she felt a bit of ease from it. She feels around for a dagger that sits under the table, strapped to it. It was just in case of an emergency.

"10 years." she answers finally, "my neighbor, Ikimuri-san, has sort-of been my nanny on and off, but it's mostly been me."
