In a small medieval town, surrounded by a dark forest, a small infection turns into an outbreak claiming many lives and turning the rest into horrible abominations.

2,272 readers have visited Plague since Neman Fox Jr created it.

Introduction

Plague

In the small town of Fallenwood, which is a settlement almost completely cut off by the outside world by a huge forest, a mysterious infection brings many of the citizens to sickness and death. The sickness can be seen through cold sweats, a fever, a pale and tired appearance, sensitivity to light, as well as a dull black color that begins to take the place of the eyes. The infected people vary in time that they become an abomination. The abominations are mutated people and wildlife that had succumbed to the sickness.
The preachers claimed it to be demons that were taking people over from the inside out. Early on, they banished the magically inclined from the church due to the possibility that it was a curse brought on by their dealings in magical affairs. The government within the town was eventually broken down into nothingness and lawlessness took its place. The people of the once honest town now scheme against each other to survive the plague and remain on top as a survivor.
The infection is spread through bite wounds that an abomination may inflict. The saliva and blood carry the infection. A clean or dirty water supply may mean the difference between survival and infection. It takes approximately 24-48 hours for the infection to fully take over a person’s body. As a person becomes more infected they become more sensitive to light. Full blown abominations can be hurt and killed by sunlight. Death before the infection takes hold means the end of the person’s life and no chance for mutation.
The town is made up of a town hall, a barracks, a pub, a school building, and then the residential buildings that make up the townsfolk’s homes. There are also shacks and homes that dot the surrounding areas within the forest. The scale and scope of the actual buildings are for the characters in the story to decide when they tell their parts in the story. The size of the town is also up to the characters to decide.
The characters in this fiction can range from men, women, to children. They can be mages, knights, and other various citizens of the town. None of the created characters have very much knowledge of where the plague came from or how it started. They simply know how it spreads.
Descriptions of the abominations vary from size and shape depending upon what the original being had been. Each description of an abomination can be different due to this. An abomination is ferocious and incredibly strong though. They attack with an undying will to infect their opponent.

Your story may begin as a traveler making his way to the town or as a resident that’s trying to survive.

Rules

1. Present day references of technology and such are a no go.

2. Character and abomination deaths are permanent.

3. A characters class and backstory must be believable and well thought out.

4. A post must add on to a character or push the story forward but doesn’t have to be a certain length.

5. Posting at least once a day would be acceptable.

6. One character cannot read other characters thoughts. You must go by what is said in dialog and body language.

7. Writing must have good grammar and proper spelling. Using software such as Microsoft Word, to spellcheck, would be awesome.

8. A stories progression and depth may lead to a character death. Your character isn’t invincible and must use the environment to survive. NPC’s, characters in the story, and abominations alike, can kill your character if given the chance.

9. No one can kill off a character that isn't their own without definitive right within the story, or the owner of the characters permission. A cheap death to another persons character will not be tolerated and is not permissible. A characters death may occur however if you're absent from posting for more than five days. I think this is a fair amount of time to get at least one post in.

10. Have a good time making the story fun for yourself and others.

Rune noticed the girls flash of anger towards the holy man before she said β€œthank you all” but said nothing. He felt nothing but pity for the poor girl she looked like she had been beaten on a daily basis and half starved but there was more pressing matters than to console her.

He scanned the strange group taking mental notes of equipment and how useful they would be in a fight. The women holding the girl had nothing but a sword but didn’t look very comfortable with it. The child had a bow and quiver full of arrows but her hands were shackled so would be useless in a fight until they were removed and now he had a good look at her she was older than what he first thought she was no child but a young women. The priest only had a dagger which would be useless in a fight with these monsters. Sir William was the only other member of the group who looked like he knew how to swing a sword.

Rune jumped down from his horse offering it to the two women saying β€œyou need him more than I”. He then hurriedly went over to the now deserted wagon to search for weapons and supplies, he found a few small sacks of food but nothing that would be useful to them rite now. He went back to the horse to tie the small bundle of food to the saddle.

There was another loud howl but this time it came from direction of the woods, Sir William was right more were coming. More howls sounded out as Rune helped the women onto the horse and they were getting closer. Rune thought there must be at least four or five of them and coming fast. He shouted to Sir William β€œWe can hold them until the women and the holy man are safe”.

Damion was lost in thought about how this terrible curse started, sure he was a man of God. Though he didn't believe that a bunch of demons did this. Nor did he believe that a bunch of spell casters did this. "I'm sorry knight, I do not know any clues that would be the cause of this terrible illness. I could give you the Church reason, that a few mages summoned up demons to wreak havoc across this land. I do not believe any word of that reasoning. It just doesn't make sense. In my personal opinion, I do believe that God sent this plague to sort out the sinners and the righteous. Though that's just my opinion on the matter." Damion said before the other howls came out of the woods.

He prayed silently and looked around for a sword. He needed to feel the rush of battle again. Its been a long time since he had fought with something. He noticed that Gwen had a sword on her. Damion ran over to her and handed the lantern to her, "Give me your sword, I'll help fend these things off. I might not look it but I know around the way of a sword." Damion grabbed the sword and wielded it the way he was taught all those years ago. The balance of it felt right in his hands, the lightness of the blade and the weight of the hilt in his hands. He smiled at the thought of the challenge. The other man had shouted to the knight about fending them off till him and the women had reached the church safely, Damion shook his head at the man and said, "I was a squire once, I know how to defend against enemies. I'm not as helpless as you think."

William absorbed the priest’s words and rallied himself to the task at hand; making an escape. He knew that fighting the abominations in a group would be suicide if not handled with care. He knew that he had to do his part though, in order to help the others to safety. He stood his ground in an offensive position as the growls and howls of the beasts grew closer.

β€œBe precise and wise about your stance and your blows. One false move could mean your life. Death is the least of our worries on this night though. They will taste our blades and fear our presence.”

He watched the trees around him as dark shapes slowly made an appearance. The women and child were safe as long as they could stop the beasts. He saw how Rune had fought with ease against the monsters earlier, and trusted him as an ally. William had never seen a man of god hold a weapon with such skill though. William thought he remembered the man from somewhere, or at least his fighting style.

Three monsters stalked out of the darkness and moved towards the three men who had decided to take up arms against them. Each one of the abominations moved steadily towards one of the men. William noticed the tactic and knew what was about to happen. He knew that the women and child were being followed.

β€œWe must take care of these beasts with haste! The monsters are also headed toward the women and the child!” After announcing this to the group, William charged his opponent with great ferocity and skill.

Mounted and now riding, Johanne latched onto the beautiful maiden. She felt as if she was obligated to, seeing as how she helped her in her time of need. Oh, how she was so needy. So dependent on others. Could she not stand on her own to feet? Or, were her feet just not meant for standing? Was she supposed to depend on the kindness of others forever? Certainly not; that would most definitely get her killed! Johanne cringed and began to tear at her own thoughts. Most of the time, she was just so damn helpless. She wanted to help herself, she wanted to be independent. Like the strangers she met. So resourceful and skilled, not needing each other; able to bond together when needed. But how to do that was beyond Johanne's knowledge. She knew not everyone she was going to meet had good intentions, but hell if she could tell. Everyone seemed so honest to her. So trustworthy. But she was not handicapped! Though, it seemed like she was, she knew that at one point, she wasn't incapable. She knew she wasn't as vulnerable as most seen her. It got tiresome, always seeming desperate for another person, always needing someone to be there. Like her Master...

"Master... She whispered, gripping the clothes of Gwendolyn. The man she knew she needed, how was she going to live without him? No guidance, no idea of what they were even doing in this town; how the hell was she supposed to move on from this godforsaken town? Master would know...

The buck of the horse making her rub against her thigh, there, a raw branding design now bleeding out. She started to grind her teeth, pushing the pain to the back of her, now, overflowing mind.

How could she help those men? Up close and personal with those monster things could not be good. Perhaps she was biased due to her use of ranged weapons. But, she knew they could protect themselves, even others. Why would they want to help others? These strangers the men didn't even know. That could be contemplated, but for now...

"Madame? Pardon my asking, but your name?"

Gwendolen took the horse by the reins as she nodded her thanks towards the man who had offered it to them, she quickly helped Johanne into the saddle when the priest approached her"Give me your sword, I'll help fend these things off. I might not look it but I know around the way of a sword." he spoke, a little reluctant to part with the last remainder of her father, eventually agreeing Gwendolen nodded her head and handed him the sword. Looking back at the girl up in the saddle she saw the bow and arrow, at least they wouldn't be defenseless on their way to the church.

Mounting the large dark horse gathered the reins in her hands and prepared to ride "We shall make haste to the church, be safe sirs" she spoke kindly before kicking the horse into a fast gallop as the sounds of the beasts grew ever nearer. The galloped for a good mile before slowing the pace to a canter to not tire out the horse too quickly, they traveled in relatively quietness until the girl spoke "Madame? Pardon my asking, but your name?"

"Gwendolen Etienne my child, you may girl me Gwen if you wish" she smiled slightly "And yours?" she asked only to be distracted by the rumbling in the bushes besides them "oh dear god" she whispered in fright knowing immediately what was causing the sound. Gwen kicked the horse back into a gallop but as a beast ran out from the bushes up ahead, the horse came to abrupt stop and reared up on it's hind legs causing both Gwen and Johanne to fall from the saddle before he bolted into the forest. Quickly finding her feet Gwen pulled the girl close to her, here they were completely alone with three abominations surrounding them, the odds certainly didn't look good.

Looking around Gwen searched for an escape or a way of getting the girl to safety "When i say run, you run as fast as you can to the church do not come back you understand?" she said firmly, if someone was going to die tonight she would prefer it to be her rather than this young child. "Let me borrow your bow."

Rune attacked the beast at the same time as the knight and the priest. He had been surprised when the priest had taken the sword and offered his aid in the fight. They all moved in unison in attack, Rune ducked under the monsters swing and slashed upwards towards the beasts throat. He heard it fall to the ground behind him. As he turned he noticed the other two had downed the remaining two demons,

He sheathed his sword and set of in the direction of the women after Sir William had told them that women were more than likely in trouble. On the jog back into town the priest introduced himself as Damion.

Rune was getting tired from all the fighting and running, he whispered the incantation β€œVirtus Fortitudo” and instantly felt a rush of energy flow into him and he started moving faster he even had to slow a bit so the others could keep up

Johanne complied, her shaking hands handing over her bow and quiver. Oh, how she didn't want to leave. She felt safe with this woman. Biting her lip, Johanne began to shake. "O-only use my bow if you promise to return it, Madame." She made the large hint that she wants her to return to the church, showing little actual concern for her weapon. She needed her, and with a lunge, embraced Gwendolyn, like a small child to her mother. Gripping her clothing, she held back tears. "My name is Johanne, Madame. Please. Return." Abruptly letting go, she tore at the length of her dress, making running easier.

Gwendolen smiled down at the girl as she handed her the bow, with a nod she agreed to her terms "I-I promise to you that I shall do my very best to return to you Johanne." Gwendolen hated that she couldn't promise that she would definitely return but she knew that wouldn't be fair and so she promised the best she could do, her word that she would do all that she could to return.

Gwen hugged the girl back fondly and ran a hand over her hair "now get ready" she said as the girl let go to rip a stand off her dress. Picking up the lantern which she had dropped from the horse, she came up with a plan, she waited until the beasts were close enough, then through the lantern at the nearest one, as the glass shattered the oil and fire quickly devoured him "Run!" Gwen shouted to Johanne as the two remaining beast lunged towards her. Firing the bow she hit one of the beasts in the right shoulder and with another shot he fell to the ground, yet the other abomination collided with her sending them both to the ground with some pain. Gwen had never been a strong girl and so the man quickly over powered her, the only thing she could do was push at his head keeping him from biting her.

William’s opponent fell swiftly, as did the others and they swiftly made their way towards the women. Rune’s speed definitely outmatched his and the priests. He was unnaturally fast for a man. William would surely have to ask him his secret.

Now though, they had to make sure that the beautiful lady, and the child, was safe. They heard screaming and painful growls erupt in the distance. William pumped his arms and legs faster in his armor, trying to run faster. His lungs began to burn as he ran with all his might.

When they arrived at the scene, there were two dead abominations and one forcing its way towards someone on the ground. William ran up and decided to pull the beast off the lady, instead of stabbing into it, as to not hurt whoever was on the ground. He pulled back on the creature and it quickly turned its attention to him.

As the beast quickly forced its way around William’s grasp, Rune and the priest cut deeply into each side of the monster, completely cutting it in half. The lifeless torso that was still in Williams hand bled out onto the ground below and faded quickly. William tossed it to the side and helped the lady to her feet.

He looked her in the eyes and said, β€œMy name is Sir William, and yours?”

Johanne couldn't look back. She couldn't do anything other than what she was told. She took off, quickly swinging one leg in front of the other. Her stomach clenching, she kicked up dirt, her sprint causing her to breathing to come irregularly. Usually, her mind is clear when she runs, but being forced to make a dash, her mind remained a jumbled mess. Her concern for Gwendolyn was nearly overtaking her body. She fought with all she could to prevent turning back. She couldn't. Three beasts? Surely no one woman could handle that type of battle. Johanne started to think what would have happened if she had stayed back. Those thoughts quickly disappeared as she grew light-headed. Her legs grew to ache. Sure, she was used to long distance runs, but this one was different. People's lives were on the line. She wanted to panic, she wanted things to revert to the time where she didn't know these beasts existed. She wanted to be ignorant again. Johanne also wanted the run to be over.

Slowing her pace as she neared the church, her knees began to buckle. Johanne fell to her knees, unable to move her legs any further. She was so close to the church. Why could she not bring herself to enter?

Gwendolen opened her eyes as she felt the weight of the beast's body sharply removed from her own, looking up she the knight fighting with it, her chest heaved heavily as she watched the scene too shocked to even move at that moment. Gwen couldn't help but gag as the the knight cut the being in half, throwing the torso to the floor he walked over to her and helped her up.β€œMy name is Sir William, and yours?” he asked looking deeply into his eyes.

"G-Gwendolen Etienne" she replied with a small smile to this handsome, gallantry knight before her "I thank you Sir William."

Rune watched as Sir William helped the women to her feet but he was alert and ready to move with the magic of his ring flowing through him. He asked the now identified Gwendolen what had happened to the child. She replied telling him she had went ahead to the church.

Rune unsheathed his sword and set of running after getting a rough direction of the church and telling the group that he would go on ahead and make sure the child was safe. Now by himself he could run at full speed and covered the ground in half the time. He rounded the corner of a building and skidded to a halt. There up ahead was a small body laying on the ground just short of the church, Rune ran to her and was relieved to find her still breathing. He lifted her into his arms easily and carried her up the steps to the doors. Kicking the doors loud enough for anyone inside to hear, a few minutes passed Rune continued to kick at the door. A man opened a sliding peep whole to see who it was. As soon as he seen it was two humans he lifted the door bar and allowed them in.

Rune carried the girl straight into the back of the building which looked like a spare bedroom, probably used as a healing area he thought to himself. He set the girl on the bed and got her some water from a near by pitcher. He told the man who had let them in that more people would shortly be arriving, He ran off muttering about bedsheets and food. Rune headed back to the front doors to await the others.

Sir William felt warmth in his heart at the thanks received by Gwen. He smiled back as he fully removed his helm. He not only wanted to come off as friendly, but he also needed to catch his breath. Rune said he was off to cover ground ahead and check on the girl, and William thought it was an excellent idea.

William then said to Gwen, β€œIt was a pleasure to have saved a maiden as fair as you.”

William smiled until he realized that he and the rest had to move on to the church. He knew in his mind that the creatures would still be coming for them, even if the first wave had failed. So, with haste, they pushed on towards the church. William was surprised at how far into the woods he and Rune had first run off into.

He saw the church and then felt warmth in his heart. The memories of his days as a church going young lad returned to him. He would have to confess his sins at least one last time. He knew it would help his spirit at least. He knew that the days ahead would be full of darkness, he didn’t want to become a part of it.

Feeling the strongest need to rest, Johanne grew extremely weary, curling into a ball. Her body sore, she grew alert once she heard the approaching footsteps. Unable to move, she gave in, nearly accepting her death. Johanne held back tears yet again, as what she thought was an abomination observered her for a moment. Being lifted, she found herself being carried. Then, she knew it was one of the men from before. She grabbed at whatever she could, making sure he was indeed human. Sighing in relief, she let herself be carried. Gripping him when he kicked the door, she shook. Johanne only began to relax once she was laid to rest. Trying to give thanks, she gave out a weak, husky mumble, attempting to keep her eyes open.

When finally realizing she was in a place of worship, her eyes shot open quickly. Her heart began to pound due to fear of ridicule. Fear of being persecuted. Johanne's blood ran cold as she began to break out in sweats. She could not force herself to calm. Strong memories of the former accusations form the church of her birth flowed into her mind. Johanne had committed no crime. No sin. A child of only fourteen at time, accused of the impossible. How dare a church sentence a child to the gallows? No say, no defense. Just death for the harlot. Her family had no say. The townspeople wanted her burned.

But the church couldn't be all that bad. The man, who held a cross on his body. He was one of the strangers. A priest. Johanne struggled mentally. She felt as if she needed to talk. To someone. But at the moment, she had no energy. Her eyes fluttered as she remained awake, her body resting.

β€œIt was a pleasure to have saved a maiden as fair as you.” Gwendolen smiled at William feeling a slight blush coming to her cheeks for looked to the ground "That's very kind of you to say sir" she replied.

Gwendolen for one couldn't wait to get to the church and rest, she had ran miles for her life that evening and for a woman who did little more exercise than a daily horse ride and woodland walks that was a lot. As the arrived near the church Gwen felt instant relief, rubbing her arms in an attempt to get warm from the cold, she couldn't wait for dawn to arrive.

Damion swung the sword like his master had taught him. Before each strike he delivered a quick prayer for forgiveness. The blood was pumping his his veins, he felt that old feeling like he did when he was training. The sword had connected and the beast was soon fell. When the battle was over he quickly prayed for the dead so that they may find their way into His arms and be forgiven. Damion crossed himself and said amen. He looked up and heard the screams for help. Damion ran after Rune and the knight.

By the time Damion had reached them, the battle was over and Rune was carrying the child to the church. He followed them to his resting place and his Lords house. He grabbed the keys out of his pocket, but then saw that Rune kicked down the door. Damion led them to the door of his little apartment. It was modest; a bed, a table with a few chairs, a fireplace and a bookshelf. "Quickly my friends, I must see to the girl." Damion said motioning to the group that it was safe to enter. He put Gwens' sword against the door way and saw Rune placing the girl on his bed. He got a bucket of water from a corner of the room that he kept for drinking water. It was boiled first so if the plague was transferred by water, he couldn't get it. Damion ripped off a piece of his robe and dampened it in the bucket. He knelt over the girl and botched her head with the cool liquid.

"It isn't much, but its enough for what we need it for," Damion said sitting down after rubbing the girls head with the damp rag. "I thank God, that the girl isn't hurt. She has just fainted by all the excitement. All she needs now is rest and water. I've worked with a dozen of these infected folk before, and she doesn't meet any of the symptoms that go with being infected." He was exhausted, he hadn't fought since he was a knight in training.

Farah suddenly shot up from the bar top - nearly falling off it, as an all too realistic nightmare jarred her awake.
"Damn flashbacks...." she complained under her breath, before slowly sliding off the bar - obliviously cutting the middle of her thigh in the process, sending a small trail of blood down one of her exposed legs.

It was silent inside the building ......and the dreariness of not only the decor, but the environment outside, was enough to depress anyone.

Farah sighed. "I can't sleep...." she thought, standing against the bar for a few minutes.........remaining lost in thought there, until the sound of hurried footsteps was heard outside.
They were too light to be a horde, and too planted to be from an infected person....but she still ran to the door with caution, opening it slowly.

Peering out in the direction of the Church she had walked by not long ago, Farah quickly spotted a young woman on her knees.
She instantly went to help, but as she opened the door she was suddenly confronted with a small group of three infected coming from the alleyway beside the bar. Two began to charge at her, but one veered off in the direction of the young girl..........so without hesitation, the woman closed her eyes, pressed her pointer and index fingers straight beneath her bottom lip, and mumbled"Anulum Gelu" under her breath.
When she opened her eyes again, the two beings in front of her were frozen solid.........a trick that would buy her only thirty seconds to attract the other one away from the girl. However the being was almost directly atop the girl, moving slowly yet eagerly......and the only chance Farah had was to kill the thing from where she stood - tens of yards away.

The woman wasn't a trained marksman in the least, but she didn't hesitate a bit to pull out a dagger, and aim it at the beings head.
Her throw was sloppy at best, but the small blade hit it's mark......and the infected fell only a few yards away from the woman.
Farah was relieved.....but also befuddled. "Why didn't she move?" she wondered aloud. But as the spell behind her wore off, she had no time to approach the girl, and instead jumped atop the flat roof of the small stable she had created, in an attempt to be higher up than the two infected who were now unfrozen. Much to her surprise though, the two rounded the other side of the bar, away from her, as a group of four horses shot down the darkened alley.
"I can't suddenly be so lucky, can i?" she whispered, smiling to herself.........until the sound of footsteps again could be heard coming from the area of the woman.

Without turning around, it was obvious to Farah that it wasn't the fallen women suddenly on her feet, or an infected making its way towards her........these footsteps were planted, like the womans......but heavier.
"A man?" she thought, just as she jumped off the small stable and hid in front of it - blowing out the flame on the door to shadow herself better.

She would watch as a slender man in unusual garb approached the girl, bent down to pick her up, and then carried her into the church only a few yards away.

Farah was a naturally curious woman....so after she retrieved her dagger, and thought the coast to be clear, she began to retrace the mans steps. But as she reached the top the staircase, and walked into the open door, she couldn't help but glare at the cross above the entrance.
It wasn't God himself who angered her......it was the people who claimed to serve him most, the ones who were largely to blame for her families demise. And while she tries every day to move past her anger, the feeling of disgust still minutely lingers in her heart.......however she pushed that aside and slowly made her way into the darkened church.

It wasn't long before she made her way past pews, and spotted the man from before placing the young woman on a bed in a room in the back. It was rather refreshing to see such kindness still in practice in such a hellish environment........but her snooping was cut short by the sound of another person approaching.
Farah cursed under her breath, before quickly whispering "Perpetuam Invisibilitatem", which made the woman - who had just slid into a darkened corner of the room across the way from the door - invisible.
This was a spell that could last for several minutes, but if one who knew the same spell as her happened to walk through the door, they would be able to spot her instantly via the moonlight. "......-but what are the chances another mage would do something so foolish as to walk into a church.......a place that housed people who blamed them for the outbreak, and then banished them to the woods to die?" she thought to herself, just as a priest walked through the open door.

She glared sharply at the man as she pressed her cold body against the wall. He wouldn't be able to see her, but seeing him was enough to make her want to leave. However it wasn't long before others began to approach behind him.......keeping Farah trapped in the corner of the room.

She'd wait until all were inside, and the door was closed, before she'd release herself from the spell, and attempt her hand at an old fashion escape...seeing as how even a small distance teleportation spell would be too stressing on her exhausted body. But there was no where to go as long as everyone stayed in the room........so Farah sighed, pulled her hair out of the sloppy ponytail it was in, and let her thick locks fall against her back....before going to lean against the wall again to wait for a chance to move.........however, when her back hit the wall, a nearby frame hit the floor.
She cursed herself mentally before dunking behind what she assumed were pews......"Great job Farah......" she thought sarcastically, hoping the group would ignore the sound she had foolishly made.

Sir William, Gwen, and the priest had finally rejoined Rune and the child at the church. They were gathered together and could finally get a collective understanding of everything that was taking place. William knew that the church was probably the safest place, not only due to the fact that it was well lit, but because the church was heavily fortified. He knew that its walls were nearly impenetrable. He felt safe at the time being.

Daybreak would be coming soon, and William felt tired. He was glad that everyone had finally gotten to know each other’s names though, but he still wondered what really brought everyone to Fallenwood. He sat by the door and was trying to rest up until he heard a muffled crash in the other room. His heart dropped at the thought of those creatures being in the church.

Quietly, and without alerting anyone else, he walked through the door inconspicuously and looked around. He noticed that something had been knocked from the wall. Not thinking anything of it, he began walking over to it to put it back up onto the wall. He wondered what could have possibly caused it to fall.

β€œHow did that manage to fall?” William asked, in a rhetorical manner.

When the others arrived at the church Rune let them inside and told them the girl was safe and he had removed her shackles. The priest Damion went off to check on her and make sure she was well.

Once they had all introduced themselves properly, he questioned Sir William about the abominations and what had happened in this town. He asked Damion if there were more rooms in the church and checked on the girl before going off to get some rest before morning.

In his room alone, he removed his sword and boots and put them on a night stand beside the bed. He had decided that in the morning he would set out and see if anyone else was alive in this god forsaken town. He would also have to teach the two women how to swing a sword properly and question the others about the town and the beasts that stalked it. He fell asleep almost instantly.

Gwendolen felt a sudden rush of relief upon hearing that Johanne was safe and with saying one last thank you to William she walked into the room where the girl to see if there was anything she could do, she smiled at the girl and hurried over to the cot where she lay "I kept my promise" she stated with a small laugh pulling her into a hug. Gwen stroked the child's hair in comfort "are you harmed?" she asked.

The stayed like that for a little while longer until Gwen noticed the blood staining her chest and arms, along with the splatters and stains ruining her nightgown and robe she knew she looked ghastly, but what time did they have for appearances now? She thought herself silly to be thinking about the way she looked at a time like this yet all so wanted to do was hold onto some reality.

"I won't be long" she smiled down at the girl before leaving the room closing the door quietly behind her, walking back into the main part of the church she smiled at William and Damion "I am sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if there was anywhere that I could wash this blood off me?" she asked referring to her chest and hands.

Suddenly, in his urge to walk over to the fallen object, William felt it to be a silly notion to be worry about the tidying of things. He let it slip his mind and walked back into the room. He did, however, keep the door slightly open. He saw that he was alone with Damion in the room. The priest seemed to look deeply into Williams’s eyes, which made him feel an unsettling feeling inside.

William asked, β€œDamion, you look kind of familiar to me. Have I met you before? At the castle, perhaps?”

The tension in the room had then been broken when Gwen walked in and asked, β€œI am sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if there was anywhere that I could wash this blood off me?"

William looked over at the lady and saw the deep red that had stained her upper body and hands. He wasn’t certain if there was anything still in use that could be used as a washroom anymore, but he knew he had seen water in the holy water fonts. He sat up and motioned for Gwen to use them to cleanse her body of the blood. He was hoping that it wouldn’t offend Damion though.

Whilst Johanne laid in bed, Gwendolen entered the room, lighthearted. A smile grew on her face as she was pulled into a warm embrace. Unable to speak at the moment, she just nodded eagerly, looking similar to a retarded walrus. Gwen didn't seem to notice, let alone care.

Soon after, Gwen got up to leave, stating her return later. Johanne laid down yet again, her back feeling warm and damp. A strong metallic scent filling her nose. The brands on her back were bleeding out. Rather than lay in her own blood, she lifted herself from the cot and tore a small piece of her dress off. She hesitated at first, feeling guilty not only about the blood in the cot, but her use of the little water in the room.

Dipping the cloth in water, Johanne began cleaning her back, the burn stinging as she rubbed. Her brands, the burns. The visible markings of ownership. They continued to bleed, the harder she scrubbed. Her dress now below her upper torso, her back bled out more. Of course, she was used to this, but without her supplies, she had no way to dress the wounds.

Confused and in pain, she leaned back, the blood no longer flowing as it once did. Patiently, she waited for Gwen...for someone.

Damion was lost in thought about what had transpired. He had met some interesting people in the course of tonight. William the knight, Damion was sure that he had met this fellow before, but he couldn't place his finger on it. Rune, a strange enigma he was. Gwen, a lady of some type of royalty. Last, but not least Johanne, an ex-slave to the man in the carriage with some type of distrust to the church. It was all very confusing. He had almost missed William and Gwen say something to him.

"Sorry, I was lost in my thoughts," He apologized to the pair. Damion turned to Gwen and said, "There is a well out back, but I don't recommend going out there alone." Damion had made sure that the well was covered every night before he went to bed and tonight was no exception to the rule. "As for you, Sir William. There is a chance we might have crossed paths before, I was a knight in training before I turned to the Cloth. Now if will excuse me, I need to check up on our friend who is bedridden. I don't want to leave her alone for very long."

Damion got up from the table and headed to his room, When he entered the room he was met with the smell of blood that he encountered not so long ago. That's when he saw Johannes' dress torn to shreds on her body. He also saw the blood on his cot, he just shook his head and knelt beside the woman and said, "I know not, what problem you have with the Church but, please don't judge me on the actions of the others of my faith. I'm here to help you, now let me see your wounds. I wouldn't be a good host if I didn't." He smiled at the woman laying on his bed.

"I think I've committed enough sins this evening, i do not wish to anger the lord further by bathing in holy water" she laughed lightly, looking around the room for something or anything she could use the thought of being drenched in her fathers and friends blood was starting to sicken her.

"There is a well out back, but I don't recommend going out there alone." Gwendolen nodded her head not hearing or choosing not to listen to the last part, wondering off whilst William and Damion continued to talk, she grabbed her sword which had been propped up against the wall and walked to the door at the back. Opening it she walked through into a small room with a single candle dimly lighting the place. With slight cautiousness she unbolted the last door and opened it, the night was quiet out, no longer could she hear the howls of those beasts travel in on the wind and what perhaps brought her the most relief the dark sky had started to lighten signalling that dawn was in fact approaching.

However this didn't stop Gwen from looking around before stepping outside, but once she saw or heard no threat she walked out closing the door behind her and walked across the stoned path towards the well. Leaning her sword against the brick, she attached the wooden bucket to the rope and lowered it down, it took all of her remaining strength to hoist the bucket up. Untying the bucket she placed it on the stone well wall before reaching down to tear of a piece of her nightgown to use as a cloth. Slipping out of her robe she let it slump to the floor and then slid her nightgown off her shoulders, tying the sleeves around her hips so it wouldn't slip any further.

Picking up the cloth she rung it out and started to wash her naked upper body, wincing loudly as her fingers washed over her side, looking down she saw a nasty black and blue bruise forming, with a slight shake of her head she dismissed it, there was no time to worry about things like that, after all it was just a bruise, she would not bother Damion with the task of looking over it.

"I know not, what problem you have with the Church but, please don't judge me on the actions of the others of my faith. I'm here to help you, now let me see your wounds. I wouldn't be a good host if I didn't."

Taking a quick glance at the priest, Johanne exhaled, turning away from the man. She didn't want to come off as rude, so she put the past aside...just for the moment. "I thank you for your kindness, sir."

Flashing her wounds, she revealed her back; bleeding and infected. Old scars from beatings, her body red and worn. Seemingly malnourished; thin and frail. As if she was about to break.

Johanne gained a bit of color in her face. Not from being partly naked in front of what could be said as a stranger, she didn't give a damn about that;but exposing her back. The only thing that proved she was beaten.

"N-now sir, please don't make any assumptions. I've been through worse." Johanne said between pressed lips. She felt as if he was judging her. But who was she to say? She judged him. Harshly. She knew she did. Johanne felt guilt. About the blood, about being rude. This priest was unbelievably kind, opening his bed to her when she knew she was weak.

Flipping her short, boy-like hair, she began to shake a bit.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Thanks, and don't worry if you go away. You're character will be in safe keeping. Have fun!

Re: [OOC] Plague

Hey yous guys! ^_^

Just wanted to point out that i can't post until it's morning..........and i'll be leaving for Spring Break vacation tomorrow night. We'll be out of the country from the 9th-18th. So if it isn't morning in the RP and my character is found by late afternoon tomorrow, i'll have to send her away w/out her meeting any of the main characters, and then post when i get back, if the RP is still going! =) Hopefully it'll be morning soon though, and my character can at least be introduced, before i find a reason to send her away for a short while. ^_-

WB Neman! =)

Re: [OOC] Plague

I'm gonna be makin a post either today or tomorrow.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Thanks, you too! :)

Re: [OOC] Plague

Have a good weekend mate

Re: [OOC] Plague

Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be away from the internet for the rest of the weekend until sunday night. Which is why, if you read my post, I took my character away from everyone else. So, if it didn't make sense why I did it, now it might. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and have fun with the journey at hand. It's a pleasure sharing this story with you all. :)

Re: [OOC] Plague

Yeah, I'm not the one to get on someones case about their posts. As long as the story flows, it's fine. :) You're a great writer.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Okay, so i was kind of lost as to what all was happening after my post........but RPG.com is screwing up for everyone and i think some of the post here are out of order too, like they are on other RPs! But since no one again approached me, i think my post is fine!?! xD

See ya guys later! <3

Re: [OOC] Plague

Aight. Duly noted.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Heyyy! *wavessss*
(i'm suddenly hyper....>_<)

Mmkay, anyways lol, no matter how pooped i am from practice i will make a point to get online tomorrow before i go to sleep, but the 2nd is going to be crazyyyy, not sure where on RPG.com i've mentioned it, so i'm going to all my OOC's now!:

I'm auditioning for Juilliard, which is a kick-ass performing arts school here the city, and how long i'm gone for the day will all depend on how far i get in the process.
If i make it through the cuts and to the interviews, which the odds are staked WAY against me as a first-timer, i won't be on at all Friday since that will likely take all day long. But if i get sent packing early on, i'll pop on that night likely. (.^_^.) xD

Re: [OOC] Plague

Maybe, who knows. It's just interesting to see.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Must be because today is the 29th of february leap year it says thursday march the first on my screen

Re: [OOC] Plague

I know its a pain too. On a side note... why the hell does your post say 10:40Pm EST today, when that hasn't even happened yet... As of my clock on my Computer it says 5:12pm EST Today.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Dame, don't worry about being on your own in this for so long. I'm sure a mage like yourself wouldn't just trust a church man so quickly anyway. And, I do understand about life and such taking precedents over this. It's cool.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Santii wrote:Any ideas on how you are going to join up with the group dame? I was thinking i leave the church in search of supplies and you attack me and bound me up thinking im an abomination or something like that.

I have no idea atm, I'll likely wake up, rp with myself some more, and then find a psycho-groovy reason to leave in the middle of the night and play out your scenario!!?........
I'm taking a lunch break now......but have to leave to get back back to the studio in like half an hour, so i'm sure i won't be up on all the post by then......BUT i did put the posts i missed on my mp5player/e-book reader last night...........so i can read on the train/bus! xD ^.^

Re: [OOC] Plague

Any ideas on how you are going to join up with the group dame? I was thinking i leave the church in search of supplies and you attack me and bound me up thinking im an abomination or something like that.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Yeah, i honestly didn't feel like RPing with myself earlier, which is why i haven't posted again yet[and am a bit behind]..........i mistakenly assumed every single character wasn't going to meet up in the same place so quickly lol. Plus i'm a bit bummed atm(i suck - i know this, you don't have to tell me *hides* v_v), so I'll post tomorrow after i get back from practice.....which will be from like 8am-4pm. (o^_^o)

I have a huge audition on the 2nd, and will likely not be on most of the 1st or 2nd though.......just a warning. [Life] >_<

Re: [OOC] Plague

Might I add, if your character is by themselves, it's a lot easier to write a longer post. That's why I don't have a set number of words that each post must contain.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Alright, I don't mind my character being spoken for either in order to move someones post along.

Re: [OOC] Plague

I dont mind that at all you can move my character about and say a few things.

I may have found what i was looking for need to see if it works
