In a small medieval town, surrounded by a dark forest, a small infection turns into an outbreak claiming many lives and turning the rest into horrible abominations.

2,271 readers have visited Plague since Neman Fox Jr created it.

Introduction

Plague

In the small town of Fallenwood, which is a settlement almost completely cut off by the outside world by a huge forest, a mysterious infection brings many of the citizens to sickness and death. The sickness can be seen through cold sweats, a fever, a pale and tired appearance, sensitivity to light, as well as a dull black color that begins to take the place of the eyes. The infected people vary in time that they become an abomination. The abominations are mutated people and wildlife that had succumbed to the sickness.
The preachers claimed it to be demons that were taking people over from the inside out. Early on, they banished the magically inclined from the church due to the possibility that it was a curse brought on by their dealings in magical affairs. The government within the town was eventually broken down into nothingness and lawlessness took its place. The people of the once honest town now scheme against each other to survive the plague and remain on top as a survivor.
The infection is spread through bite wounds that an abomination may inflict. The saliva and blood carry the infection. A clean or dirty water supply may mean the difference between survival and infection. It takes approximately 24-48 hours for the infection to fully take over a person’s body. As a person becomes more infected they become more sensitive to light. Full blown abominations can be hurt and killed by sunlight. Death before the infection takes hold means the end of the person’s life and no chance for mutation.
The town is made up of a town hall, a barracks, a pub, a school building, and then the residential buildings that make up the townsfolk’s homes. There are also shacks and homes that dot the surrounding areas within the forest. The scale and scope of the actual buildings are for the characters in the story to decide when they tell their parts in the story. The size of the town is also up to the characters to decide.
The characters in this fiction can range from men, women, to children. They can be mages, knights, and other various citizens of the town. None of the created characters have very much knowledge of where the plague came from or how it started. They simply know how it spreads.
Descriptions of the abominations vary from size and shape depending upon what the original being had been. Each description of an abomination can be different due to this. An abomination is ferocious and incredibly strong though. They attack with an undying will to infect their opponent.

Your story may begin as a traveler making his way to the town or as a resident that’s trying to survive.

Rules

1. Present day references of technology and such are a no go.

2. Character and abomination deaths are permanent.

3. A characters class and backstory must be believable and well thought out.

4. A post must add on to a character or push the story forward but doesn’t have to be a certain length.

5. Posting at least once a day would be acceptable.

6. One character cannot read other characters thoughts. You must go by what is said in dialog and body language.

7. Writing must have good grammar and proper spelling. Using software such as Microsoft Word, to spellcheck, would be awesome.

8. A stories progression and depth may lead to a character death. Your character isn’t invincible and must use the environment to survive. NPC’s, characters in the story, and abominations alike, can kill your character if given the chance.

9. No one can kill off a character that isn't their own without definitive right within the story, or the owner of the characters permission. A cheap death to another persons character will not be tolerated and is not permissible. A characters death may occur however if you're absent from posting for more than five days. I think this is a fair amount of time to get at least one post in.

10. Have a good time making the story fun for yourself and others.

Sir William looked up into the dull ceiling above him. He thought he heard creaking in the attic. Seeing as how he was out of his armor, he knew he wasn’t in a good spot to be fighting the abominations as is. He picked up his sword and a torch anyway and made his way towards the stairwell that led up into the confines of the dark attic.

He took a deep breath as he neared the door and reached for its handle. Opening the door he put the torch forward and saw most of the room illuminated. With a step forward he heard a terrible howl as a terribly deformed creature ran at him with full force. Surprised, William sidestepped the creature and swung the torch in its direction. The creature quickly turned itself around and stared at him with dull black eyes and a threatening grin.

William growled a fierce battle cry as he charged the monster with the torch forward and his sword at the ready. The abomination quickly swatted at the fire only to have its arm severed by a swift swing of William’s sword. The beast growled and cried out in a painfully disturbing manner as its blood poured onto the floor. It quickly, and unexpectedly, forced a powerful blow from its other hand into Williams’s chest, which sent him to the ground winded.

As the monster tended to its wound, William collected himself and looked on as it slowly bled to death in front of him. He jumped to his feet and made his way over to the creature and looked down upon it for a moment. He dropped the torch on the ground and then solemnly grasped his amulet and walked down the stairs. He could smell the fire spreading and could hear the beast above wailing in pain over the blazing fire.

He made his way to his front door after suiting up into his armor as quickly as he could. He could feel the fire spreading as he opened up the front door and left the home. His thoughts raced as he began to realize the scope of how this was spreading. He knew that he had to protect himself as well as the people he grew up with and around.

With a sad voice, he said, β€œI’m sorry it had to end this way, my love. May the demon that entrapped you suffer endlessly in the flames. I will do whatever it takes to overcome this. If I am to fall victim to its curse, then I shall only be reunited with you in death.”

Rune was approaching the town of Fallenwood, his horse was tired and needed proper feed. They had travelled fast hoping to get here before nightfall. Rune was running low on supply’s and needed to restock so he headed down into the town to find an inn.
When he reached the first buildings of the town he heard a loud high pitched scream, he pulled the horses reins hard and looked about the empty streets. Out of the corner of his eye he seen a dark shape flash around the corner of a distant building. Rune was starting to think something strange was going on in this town, maybe this plague he had heard so much about in the last town.

Rune cantered closer to the centre of town looking for the inn when he seen them, there at the end of the street was two dark shapes and coming closer by the second. He squinted his eyes to see them clearer they looked human at first glance but as they got closer he noticed how grotesque they looked and there black eyes.

Rune soon realised they meant him harm so he vaulted from his horse and unsheathed his blade in one fluid motion, landing in a almost perfect stance to fight two enemies. The smaller of the two abominations reached him first. It lunged at him, he spun out of the way flashing his sword out taking its head clean of its shoulders but the second bigger one crashed right into him knocking him backwards. Landing on his back he rolled onto his feet ready to attack. The thing was coming straight at him again Rune sidestepped swinging his blade at its leg, it fell to the ground and Rune stabbed his sword right down into the back of the things neck.

Wiping his blade on the monsters cloths he heard a door open, he looked up and down the street for the source of the noise and seen a man exiting a building. Rune was ready to fight again but the man didn’t move towards him, they stared at each other for a second and then Rune sheathed his sword and called out β€œwhat has happened here in this town stranger”?

A flickering light swaying back and forth, the lamp of a wagon illuminated the dull green eyes of a servant girl. The wagon bounced and rocked from the unsteady rhythm of the horses' hooves. Johanne's shackles jingled and clanked as she glared at the back of her Master's head. A fat man with wheat in his mouth, he whistled happily as he continue through the trees. Why he chose to travel at night, no clue to her. But he did. He kept her hidden in the day time, under cloaks and blankets.

"Why, look at you. You look like a little boy in his mother's clothes." Her Master taunted. She bit her lip and let out an inaudible sigh. He chuckled and looked back at her. "Don't worry. Once we get where we're going, I'll make you woman enough for anyone."

She couldn't hide the disgusted expression on her face. This man owned her? Surely, the Church knew he was a pervert. And here they were, all high and mighty accusing her of infidelities. With mules. Seriously?

She looked up; the night was starless, gloomy and depressing. She began to wonder why they had come this route.
"Not even a path was made, the town is so deserted," she thought. Sniffling and wheezing, she turned to her left, only to be jerked forward by the halt of the horses. "They had been doing just fine until now."

"Damn ignorant-" Her Master swore, removing his hat. The horses began to kick up, frightened by something unbeknownst to the duo. Johanne reached her hand out, trying to warn her Master, "M-Master, I think-"

Johanne was immediately silenced by a blow to the throat. She swallowed hard and let out a whimper. Her Master cringed at her as he began to take the lantern off its post. The wagon was violently rocked back and forth, the horses now kicking up their legs in fear. Johanne grew frightened. She huddled her knees up to her chest and began to pray. Though she had abandoned her beliefs in the Church long ago, she felt as if it were the right thing to do. She shook, clenching her teeth as she sent words up, hoping someone would hear her cries. Johanne was afraid.

The fear only deepened when one horse whinnied loudly, then fell with a loud thump.

The Master of Johanne jumped out of the wagon, concerned about his prize winning horses. What he came to find brought bloodcurdling shrieks to his lips. The lantern was dropped, along with the other horse. Johanne yelped and scanned the wagon quickly, scrounging up her quiver and knapsack.

Bow in mouth, she rolled out of the wagon and began sprinting, as fast as her nimble legs would take her. Johanne refused to look at the sight in front of the wagon. She held in screams as she ran, tears in her eyes. Johanne summoned all of her energy and made an all out dash, her dress tearing as she ran through the bushes.

Johanne soon grew out of breath, barely reaching a dimly lit area. She shuddered, her eyes going narrow as she made one final sprint. Her knees grew weak, her breathing heavy, but she refused to scream for help. It was night time. And she was alone.

Before leaving his home, William heard the unquestionable sounds of conflict in the distance. The screams of some horror and the trampling of battle encased the outside for less than a minute as he readied himself for anything at the door. Making his advances outside he saw a man standing off in the distance. William stood there firmly and didn’t say a word.

The man then said, β€œWhat has happened here in this town stranger?”

William took a sigh of relief as he took a step away from his soon to be visibly burning home and said, β€œGood Sir, you may want to find a well-lit place to stay tonight. I’ll explain everything I know to you, but it’s not the best time to be visiting Fallenwood.”

Smoke began pouring out of the home now as William slowly walked away to formally greet the newcomer into the town. The flames lit up the streets and seemed to startle and scare away things that were hiding and waiting in the darkness. Even through his armor, William could feel the heat of the fire on his skin. His heart sank further as he thought about the ruin his life was in. He couldn’t let his people know that his hope was all but gone.

His thoughts were distracted more by a distressing scream coming from not too far off in the woods. He felt it rude to abandon the man in the street, but he felt like it was important to go see what had caused the disturbance of the usually quiet woods. William was sure there were creatures lurking even in there, but he had to help someone if he could. He then took off running in his suit of armor towards the woods.

William shouted back to the man in the streets, β€œMy name is Sir William the fierce, I’m sorry if this is rude of me sir, but I fear for the worst in the woods. Come with me, or stay by the fire, either way you will be fine.”

Johanne fell to her knees. The tiny bit of flame she had left in her heart was nearly extinguished. She thought about her Master. Sure, he was an obnoxious pervert with a God complex, but she needed him. He saved her from the gallows. Shouldn't she save him? She shook violently. Johanne was beyond exhausted. Even if she could help, how would she? She had no idea what even happened. She rested her head on the ground, catching her breath.

"M-Master...p-please...be okay." She lifted her head to look to the Heavens. But all she got was the nighttime sky.

Johanne took alarm when she heard heavy footsteps and the metallic clank of armour. She did not hesitate to retrieve an arrow from her quiver, but thought twice about shooting. With dim lighting and a limited supply of arrows, should she shoot? She had little place for cover, seeing as how going back into the woods was a no go. So, there she waited, in Archer's Stance, in plain view of whatever was coming at her.

The Armoured Stranger replied β€œGood Sir, you may want to find a well-lit place to stay tonight. I’ll explain everything I know to you, but it’s not the best time to be visiting Fallenwood” before walking towards Rune. The building the man had come from was on fire Rune wondered to himself what had occurred inside that building before the man had joined him in the street but he thought better than to ask the stranger.

A far of scream sounded from the woods Rune had come from and the Knight started of in that direction shouting over his shoulder β€œMy name is Sir William the fierce, I’m sorry if this is rude of me sir, but I fear for the worst in the woods. Come with me, or stay by the fire, either way you will be fine.” Rune chuckled to himself, at least he has manners he thought to himself. Rune had no choice to follow the man, he needed answers and he didn’t mind the fact the man looked like he could hold his own.

He headed to where he had leapt from his horse pounced on and galloped in the direction the knight had went. He caught up with Sir William just before the woods and he looked down at the knight and said β€œmy name is Rune by the way.” Rune could see an abandoned wagon by the side of the road so he scanned the tree line looking for more of those abominations. Then he spotted a small girl he pointed in her direction and shouted to the knight "there look a child"

Farah had spent another day on the outskirts of Fallenwood, still uneasy about making her way back in the main part of town..........seeing as how she was still banished. But as the night engulfed the sky, and darkened the small abandoned shed of a home she was in, the woman suddenly realized what a horrid place she had decided to stay at.......as growls and footsteps could be continuously heard in the wooded area only several yards behind her.

"How could you be such a fool Farah!" she whispered to herself, as she sat underneath a window. "Of course those beast would hide in the trees during the day, so why in gods name would you take up stay only several yards away from the entrance to the forest..........

The woman slowly poked her head up and peered out the window after the sounds of movement stopped..........at first she saw nothing under the bright starlight...........but as soon as she stood, thinking the coast was clear, a group of three infected beings began to make their way past the window. Farah tried to back up into the darkness of the house, but they spotted her with ease....and began to ferociously bang on the window.
"Damn!" she spat, before falling to her knees.
She'd spend only a few seconds gathering up her belt and the half eaten loaf of bread off the floor, before crawling towards the door.

Only after shoving the piece of bread in-between her teeth, and latching the mens belt around her waist, did she bolt out the door..........with the beast following quickly behind her.

"Focus......." she thought to herself, before stopping in her tracks, turning around, and holding out her arm - only ten or twelve yards from the three monsters running towards her.
Within seconds a dense foliage of vines shot up from the ground..........and after the three beast ran into them, they were quickly found themselves wrapped-up like a cigar. But Farah knew the simple spell would only last for a minute, so standing in the middle of a wide field she began to run........

Five minutes later, the piece of bread in her mouth had long since been eaten, and she was nearly half a mile away from the edge of the forest - completely out of breath. But she knew the three beast from before were likely on her tail still, so she didn't stop running....and instead used a spell of endurance on herself, so that within an additional five minutes she'd be more than two miles away...........and only a half a mile from the main part of town.

*-*---*------------------*-*------------------*---*-*

As Farah slowly approached the back of a town church, she bit down on her lip..........knowing that if anyone recognized her here, she'd again have to run....a tiring thought.

Luckily though, she made it into the dirty alley beside the holy building without anyone coming out of the back door, and thought herself home free........until a sound of heavy footsteps came from in front of her, sending her back out the way she came. But as she turned around to face what she thought was another group of the infected, she instead was pushed to the ground by a fleeing white stallion.

Cursing under her breath, Farah hopped back to her feet, turned around, and placed her arm out in front of her. She then whispered a spell that caused a white rope to suddenly shoot forward from her hand - stopping only until it wrapped itself around the horses neck - who was nearly 300 yards away from her now.

The Stallion of course struggled at first, but it didn't take long for the animal to relax....and eventually allow itself to be lead back towards the smiling young woman. "Well, you're obviously a trained one, aren't you? Lets hope your not infected......"

She'd thoroughly inspect the outside of the horse, and then its eyes, before the white rope disappeared, and she instead gripped the horses dangling rein.
"Lets go.....Snow." she said, randomly naming the horse after it's beautiful coloring....

The two would walk into town slowly, until Farah spotted a horde of beast up the road, and decided it wise to take shelter in a nearby bar.......however after tying up the horse, and walking towards the bar door, she suddenly felt a bit bad for the animal.
"They'll infect you for sure if i leave you out in the open like such..........." she said solemnly.......unsure of what to do, until she spotted a pile of wood in front of the horse, that had obviously fallen from the roof the one story building the bar resided in.
Farah quickly bent down beside it, and placed her hand just above the highest piece of wood..........after closing her eyes for only a few brief seconds, she opened them.....to find herself now standing inside of a plain wooden stall - that was JUST large enough to house the horse and her.

"There you go" she said as she stood. "Much safer, hmm?".

She'd step outside of the stall and close the door tight........leaving on a tiny slot for the horse to see out of, as she lit a torch that was built into the middle of the door.
Farah then picked up another piece of wood nearby, cast a spell to shape it into a foot long torch, and then lit it with a spark of fire that spit out of her finger, before cautiously opening the bar door.

*-*---*------------------*-*------------------*---*-*

The floor was made of cheap wood, with patches of hay to cover the missing planks............Farah thought the one torch would be enough to make the small area inside the bar bright, but she was wrong...........so after shutting the door, she quickly held out her hand and snapped her fingers..........causing all the torches on the walls to suddenly be bright with fire.
Such magic however, caused the two beast inside to suddenly shriek with pain - covering their eyes desperately with there hands..........which gave Farah plenty of time & opportunity to pull out her fifteen inch dagger, and stab them both in the heart........causing the two to fall lifelessly to the ground - one at the end of the bar, and one a few yards away beside the front door.

"God, why would you visit such a terrible curse upon us........and then have my kind blamed for it!" she whispered to herself, as she made her way atop the bar, and laid down on her side......her head facing away from the door so that she could keep an eye on it as her chin rested in the hand, which was propped up by her arm.

Even though her legs were rather cold, it didn't take long for the exhausted Farah to close her eyes............but they'd shoot open every five minutes or so, at what she thought was the wound of footsteps..........until she finally forced herself to go into a light sleep atop the bar, nearly a half hour later..........a sleep, that since light, she would easily awaken from if feet began to make their way towards her hurriedly - like one who's infected would.

Gwendolen went to bed that evening late, after a day of nursing her sick father and the majority of her servants, she had finally decided to rest a little. Gwen couldn't help but find the entire situation slightly strange, all the sick had ventured into town a day prior, had come back with what looked like teeth marks or scratched etched into their skin and all had quickly developed a alarmingly high fever. Changing out of her dress and into a cotton nightgown, Gwendolen tiresomely crawled into bed, where sleep quickly claimed her. However her slumber didn't last for long as she awoke with the sounds of a large ruckus coming from down stairs, getting out of her bed Gwen slipped on her embroidered robe and slippers before opening the her heavy bedroom door, walking out into the dimly lit hallway, the noise seemed louder and it was followed by a high pitched cry.

Gwen's eye widened in fear, this was not just her servants being to loud, this was something else, were they being attacked? As she inched slowly towards the staircase she swallowed the large lump forming in her throat and walked down the wooden stairs, trying to keep light footsteps so the steps wouldn't creak and alert the intruders of her presence. As she reached the bottom she looked down both coridoors, the noise was coming from the parlor room, her eyes darted around to see what she could possible use as a weapon, settling upon a heavy silver candlestick, with her hands firmly grasping her weapon she quietly tiptoed towards the room at the end of the hall only to be distracted by another scream behind her, turning sharply she saw her maid Ana running towards her holding her neck with a blood soaked rag. Gwenolden's stomach churned slightly at the sight "My lady help me please" she begged with tear soaked eyes.

"Hush!" she scolded with a harsh whisper remembering the intruders at the end of the hall but it was too late, a guttural growl alerted her of their parents, she turned and saw two deathly pale men with bloodied mouths and black eyes at the end of the hall, she backed up slowly dropping the candlestick "run" she muttered her voice barely louder than a whisper, she grabbed Ana by the wrist and ran up the stairs dragging her with their pursuers hot on their heels, Ana's screams piercing her ears as they ran, she didn't blame the girl, she would probably be doing the same thing if she wasn't so focused on finding a hiding place.

Settling for her fathers room she dragged the maid inside, pushing a heavy chest in front of the door to try and keep those demons out. Gwendolen stood back and watched as they pounded against the door, her chest heaving up and down as she tried to catch her breath,What was happening? She thought to herself until a loud thump caught her attention, turning her head she saw Ana slumped on the floor her back against the wall, rushing over she removed the soaked rag to have blood squirt out of the wound onto her chest, resisting the urge to gag she mustered up some courage and placed her hand firmly onto the woman's neck in a attempt to stop the bleeding "Ana, who did this? Was it one of those things?" Gwen asked with a soft voice, Ana weakly nodded, the loss of blood quickly began to affect her.

"I-i went to check on Ralph, the stable boy's fever when he attacked me, he b-bit me." Her voice was weak, too weak, Gwen let out a small sigh applying her other hand as the Ana's blood seeped through her in between her fingers "What about the others? Are they the same?" she asked, no answer came, looking at the girls face she knew instantly she had passed away, feeling sadness gather in her heart she removed her blood soaked hands wiping them on her robe "be at peace Ana" she said to the lifeless body. Standing up she fell back against the wall and closed her eyes for a moment trying figure out what she was to do next, a creak made her eyes shoot open, standing in front of her was her father, the same deathly pale skin and the same darkened eyes as the men downstairs, she barely had time to let out a scream as he lunged at her, diving to the floor her father collided with the fall, falling to the floor with a thump. "Papa" she cried as she stumbled to her feet, walking over to the body cautiously, she looked down to see his chest rising slightly and a sense of relief washed over her "Papa?" she called lightly.

Lord Stanley's eyes shot open to reveal the blackness once more, letting out scream Gwen made a dash for the door but feeling a hand grasp around her ankle brought her swiftly to the ground face first. Stunned for a moment, her hand flew to her nose and drew back to see the scarlet fluid trickle out from her nostrils, she kicked violently as her father tried to bite her "Papa please" she begged but it was no use, this was no longer her father. It wasn't long until he was above her trying his best to bite at her skin, she fought with all her might but he had seemed to developed a new strength. A flash of silver caught her eye, it was her fathers sword! Using one arms to continue to push Stanley away she stretched the other one and grasped the hilt of the sword she managed to plunge the blade into his side. He fell to the ground quickly, standing to her feet, Gwen had no time to mourn, she removed the sword to looked away to find a way of escape. The window proved to be her best option, smashing the glass with the blade she through that out first and watched as it landed in the bush, the drop was at least fifteen feet but this was her only chance of survival, carefully lowering herself down she let go and fell in a heap on the grass "damn" she hissed as a moment of pain rushed through her.

Grabbing the heavy sword Gwen ran as fast as she could into the forest, she ran until she could run now more and using a tree for support she stopped to catch her breath, it was a cold night, and the thinness of her nightgown and robe made small bumps appear on her skin from the chill, her breath was viable also, her chest heaved heavily as she looked around, she spotted the outline of something in the near distance, her grasp tightened on the hilt of her sword as she walked the object. The moonlight lit up a carriage and two slumped horses along with two men and a young girl, feeling relief wash over her she walked towards them "Sirs!" she called out "Please you must help me" she begged.

Damion was asleep when he had heard the shouting, and the neighing. It was a long day before that, he sighed as he got up and put on his robe. Him being the holy man of the town, one of Damions jobs was to ensure that all bodies were taken care of and prayed before they burned them. It had been a long day before the night had approached. He remembered what had transpired like it had just happened. The smell, the sights, and the sounds.

"Sir, another man requires your attention." Damions' helper said to him. Damion was kneeling over a sick man giving him his last rites and easing his pain. The smell was terrible. It was like somebody had curdled milk and smashed a rotten egg in the same room. He crossed himself and brought out his dagger. 'Forgive me Father for this act of murder, for this act of murder is in mercy and not in anger. Forgive me for that of what I am about to do to another one of your children. Allow me to pass through your gates and be with You and Your Son who has died for your sins. I beg the to Forgive me,' Damion prayed before he sunk his blade into the mans heart effectively killing him without much pain. The room was now filled the with the copper smell of blood. He wiped the blade on the sheet next to the man and got up The family of the man walked up to Damion and offered him coin. He just shook his head and refused, "This is a free service. I'm committing no sin here and as such I will not take money for it. It pains me to watch others suffer."

"Now where is this man? I must tend to him." Damion said putting the blade back into its resting place. His helper looked away from the Priest, and told him to follow him. Damion nodded and walked after the boy. It was a shame to have somebody so young to experience something so tragic. When Damion had reached the new patient, the smell was exactly the same. As was the seen. The man was in the late stages of the Plague. He was about to go, and the man didn't want to become one of them. Damion just nodded his head and began the reading of the last rites of the infected.

Damion stepped out of the church with a lantern and his dagger at the ready. It wasn't a short sword he had trained with, but it worked. He started walking out slowly and delibeartly trying not to draw attention to himself. He really didn't want to be out right now, and there was no real reason except for his curious nature. For the next couple of minutes he walked slowly and soon saw a campfire a couple of hundred yards away. The fire was acting like a beacon in the darkness like his lantern. As he neared the fire he saw clear foot prints of what would be a couple of men and a horse. He followed the footprints to 2 men, a woman, and a young girl. He ran up holding his lantern. It was clear who he was due to the fact that he had his robes on and the cross around his neck.

William ran with all his might to the disparaging noises in the forest. He stopped a little distance away from a carriage and scanned the area. He saw the aftermath of an attack from the abominations and then heard a horse approaching him quickly from the rear. William turned and looked back to see the man from the street quick on the approach.

The man said, β€œMy name is Rune, by the way.” William acknowledged him and then herd him shout, β€œThere! Look, a child!”

William saw a frightened little figure standing in the distance. His heart thumped when he saw a bow pointed in his direction with an arrow to match. William sheathed his sword and raised his hands in a reassuring manner. He hoped that the child would maintain a natural position and not open fire.

He shouted to the child, β€œMy name is William! I’m a knight! I’m here to help, child. Just lower the bow. I don’t want anyone else to get hurt here. We have to get everyone to safety.”

William watched the figure and hoped the child would lower the weapon only to hear someone off in the distance shout, β€œSirs! Please! You must help me!”

He looked over to see a beautiful young lady running towards their direction. He then glanced back over to the child and then up to Rune on the horse. William knew that he needed to get these people out of the confines of the woods. The darkness was the worst possible place to be, especially the darkness in the woods. He sighed to himself and then took a deep breath.

William's voice was stern, but at the same time disarming, as he said, β€œYou all must follow me to some place safe out of the woods. Child, I assure you, my friend and I here will keep you safe. Madame, you just come with us and we’ll ensure you safe passage through this nightmare. Follow me back to the town, please.”

Gwendolen approached the men, a thankful smile gracing her lips "oh I thank you kindly sirs, my home is over run with people with the fever" she explained "I barely escaped with my life" she said as she thought back to the nights events. Looking back at the carriage she saw a girl holding a bow and arrow, she looked frightened, she pitied the girl, she really did, these misfortunes were too much to bestow onto a young girl.

"Come child, there are no more reasons to fret, these kind sirs are going to help us" she spoke softly and kindly wanting the girl to trust them. Gwendolen trusted these men from the moment she laid eyes on them, one of them obviously a knight of honour and valour and the other of equal stature, if anyone could see them safe it would be these.

Gwendolen's heart began to quicken as she heard the sound of pounding footsteps, her fear haltered when she saw the flickering light of a lantern and knew instantly it wasn't one of them. As the man approached she instantly knew he was a man of god due to the large cross around his neck, wanting to leave these woods quickly she made a mental note to speak to the man afterwards in hope of redeeming herself in the eyes of the lord after her sins this evening.

Johanne gulped and lowered her weapon. Her breaths came uneasily and she advanced towards the small group. Her knees buckled and quivered as she walked, dragging her bow on the ground. In the presence of a lady, she stood and curtsied sloppily, "Forgive my disheveled appearance, Madame. But...I need help." Johanne glanced towards the knight, "S-Sir William," She mumbled, "Please. Please protect my Master!" She begged, making her way toward the man. "I beg of you." She groveled, resting her head on the dirt, pleading.

William removed his helm and smiled at the young girl. He turned his head toward the approaching holy man and wondered why a priest would wander alone in the woods knowing his life was at stake. He wondered why the girl would hold such obedience to someone to proclaim them her master. His heart was heavy with pity as he looked on at the bloody scene surrounding the carriage.

β€œWho is your Master, young one? Where is he?”

William, walking over to the carriage with caution noticed the horses were now deathly quiet. They looked at him with silence as he steadily approached them. He was waiting for something, anything, to happen. He placed the helm back on his head and unsheathed his sword once more as he heard ruffling noises coming from within the compartment of the carriage.

"There is no need to ask for my forgiveness" Gwendolen smiled warmly down at the girl, seeing her grovel for a man who was essentially her captive broke her heart, did this poor girl have no other family whom she would rather beg? Was she that alone? Gwen's hand tightened on the hilt of her fathers sword as Sir William approached the carriage, she moved towards the girl placing a hand on her shoulder and gently pulled her towards her, she did not want her in harms way, the rumbling coming from inside the carriage unnerved her and her grip on the girls shoulder tightened slightly, like a mother protecting her child "be prepared to run" she whispered to the girl.

Her hand. The hand of the beautiful women. She wanted to touch. To feel. To grasp and feel her warmth. She was not worthy of holding the woman, but once she grabbed her, Johanne didn't want to leave. She shook and tensed up. "Thank you, Madame." The noise from the carriage sparked a light in her. The hope her Master may be alive. She didn't want to be alone.

Now, she wasn't.

William opened the cloth curtain that hid what was inside and saw a horrible creature positioned on top of a man, tearing into his shoulder. The man weakly looked over at William and screamed. The screams made the creature jump and take a turn towards William. William readied himself for an attack but was taken by surprise by the sheer force of the blow that the abomination gave him in his shield.

William’s body was forced back and to the ground by the beast as it lunged at him from the inside of the carriage. William heard his companions in the background but kept most of his attention to the dangerous situation at hand. The beast was clawing at his armor and attempting to bite him as he slashed it and did his best to thwart the beasts attack. William managed to injure it enough to kick it off of him as he regained his footing and prepared to continue an offensive attack.

The monster looked all around the crowd in shock of its current situation. It seemed to understand that it wouldn’t live. It then opened its mouth and produced a blood curdling cry at the top of its lungs. The shriek was almost deafening and forced William to cover his ears from the damaging howl.

William screamed out, β€œIt’s drawing other abominations to our position. We must kill this beast and get out of here as quickly as possible!”

Knowing that the man in the carriage was infected, but still alive, put a lot of pressure on the situation. He knew they would need to go with the holy man to the church for protection. He did his best to stand his ground to the beast and give honor to the dead as he always promised to do. So, he rallied himself and stood toe to toe with the beast as it growled in anticipation of an attack from all of the companions.

Gwendolen jumped back when the beast jumped out from the carriage pulling Johanne with her to keep her from harms way, this couldn't be easy for the girl to see, her old master reduced to this state, she gathered she must have cared for the man to want him saved so badly. β€œIt’s drawing other abominations to our position. We must kill this beast and get out of here as quickly as possible!” Hearing this Gwen's eyes widened in fear as she scanned the darkened woods for any signs of the abominations closing in on them, mustering some courage she pulled the child behind her "Stay behind me" she said walking to stand next to William.

Johanne stared at the woman, observing her back. Her overall mood improved drastically. The strangers she met were going to save her Master! Fear still running through her veins, she fidgeted with her shackles, causing them to jingle and clatter. Whatever is was they were fighting, she wanted to help as well. Deep down, she knew she would just be a nuisance, but she imagined the expression on her Master's face when she would tell him about the group of people who save him, how she was brave, too.

William noticed the beautiful young lady join his side while the beast looked deep into both of them with its black eyes that seemed to bring them into an eternity of darkness on their own. William saw the beast clench up and prepare for an attack. The monster jumped in the direction of the young women beside him. William jumped in the way of the attack and managed to drive his sword deep into the monsters chest as it collapsed to the ground on top of him.

The beast still snarled angrily at William as he continued to push up on his blade, even though the abomination’s chest was up against the guard of the sword already. He could feel strength leaving the beasts’ body as its blood poured out of the wound that was created from the stab. William did his best to ensure the blood wasn’t in a position to infect him as he tossed the beast off of him to the ground and looked around at everyone who was with him. His adrenaline had been pumping intensely and forced him to shiver from the experience.

He spoke lowly to the group as he said, β€œWe must move. We have to abandon this spot. Priest, can you help us get back to the church? It would be appreciated if you would allow us shelter from the wickedness of this world.”

He sheathed his sword one final time walked back towards the carriage that had grown silent due to the beasts absents. He took one look inside and shook his head. He looked at the little girl through his helmet and frowned. He knew she would be upset to leave her master, but William knew better than to bring him back to the town or even leave him alive.

Gwendolen let out a quick scream as the beast lunged towards her but William jumped in front of her before it reached her accidentally knocking her to the ground in the process, she landed with a thump and slightly dazed. She watched as the knight plunged his sword into the beasts chest and watched as Johanne's former master slumped to the ground, dead.

Getting herself up off the ground, she looked down at the body and turned back towards the young girl, sympathy lacing her face "I'm sorry" she said softly, not knowing how the girl was too react to this. β€œWe must move. We have to abandon this spot. Priest, can you help us get back to the church? It would be appreciated if you would allow us shelter from the wickedness of this world.” Looking towards the priest her eyes pleaded with him, in hope that he would say yes, surely the church, holy ground would be the safest for them.

Looking at Johanne she saw the shackles on her wrist and then looked back at the lifeless body of her master, walking over to the dead man she dropped to her knees and rummaged through his pockets, until she found what she was looking for, the key. Standing up she walked back over to the girl and unlocked the chains "There, no longer shall you be weighed down by these shackles" she spoke fondly.

Still she stood. Unmoving in the bulk of her body, her lower lip quivering. Johanne began to rub her red, tender wrists. Tears flooded her eyes, staring in disbelief. 'No," She whimpered softly, clenching her jaw. Her knees started to buckle. Johanne bit down bit down on her lip, drawing blood. "W-why can't..." She buried her face into her hands and spoke loudly; "Why can you not help him?!" Balling her fists, she crouched to the ground, weeping lightly. Her eyes flashed open, her hands covering her face as she began to shake. "Master..."

Damion shirked away from the screaming of the monster. Never in his years had he heard such a chilling sound. The monster had jumped towards the Knight and he fought him off like he had seen his master had done before in his training exercises. Damion had always trouble with that type of training. When the monster was done for, the knight had asked him for safe refuge in the church. This was a common practice, the church was a safe haven for those in trouble and danger. It was a sanctuary for all who ask for it or are in desperate need of it. "Of course, the Church is a safe place for all. From the lowest slave to the highest Noble." Damion said to the group. He knew that this group was his best chance of making through this alive and non-infected. "But before we go there is something that I am required to do. It will not take long, for I know time is short and of the essence."

Damion knelt over the body of the monster and prayed over him. He said 'Amen' and crossed himself. He then moved to the body of the girls master and proceeded to do the same thing for him. When Damion was done he rejoined the group. "Alright, my work is done here. I will show you the way to the safe haven. Follow me." He said holding his lantern up and started walking towards the church. The night air was cool and crisp against his hot skin. He hated seeing the innocent dying in such horrible ways.

William laughed at the thought of being nobility. He was a poor laborer from this forsaken town. His heroics were the cause of his will to survive. In fear he found courage. In courage he found nothing but honorable death. He failed to acquire that death though. So, he lives in the shadow of the glory he might have had if he had died in the Great War.

He wondered if the priest knew of the horrors of war. He seemed to look so crestfallen over the death of some slave owner and some horrible monster. William wondered if he would be looked down upon for the killings of many young men who fought against him in that war. William thought to himself. Would the priest have it in him to do what was needed for survival? Did anyone?

He watched the child cry over the death of her master. He also wondered why she thought she needed that man. He noticed the attachment that the women had begun to grow towards the child as well. Then, he looked on at Rune, who was solitary in his own right.

William wondered why he fought so hard for people he had never met. Then, he remembered that he did the same in the war. He fought for values that weren’t his own. He fought for a land he barely knew. He did so with all his will. William knew that he had to do the same through this trial; if not for himself, than at least for his lost love.

β€œPriest, do you have any real clues as to what could have brought about this curse? I mean, other than the magic folk of our land. Do you actually think the mages could bring about a blight such as this?”

"I'm sorry" Gwendolen said sympathetically to Johanne, she couldn't understand the girls attachment to the man yet she still mourned so Gwen held her tongue in the questioning, for now she let the child grieve, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder giving it a gentle squeeze. Feeling the girl start to shake with emotion Gwendolen knelt down and wrapped her arms around her, bring her to her bosom like a mother did to comfort a child.

She looked towards the knight and offered him a small smile of thanks, if it wasn't for him then she surely would be bitten or dead when the man had pounced.

Johanne immediately silenced her cries and let herself be embraced. She shivered and grabbed the wrist of Gwendolen, pursing her lips. Her eyes wide, she looked up towards the priest; her concealed resentment for the church flashing in her eyes. Standing, Johanne cleared her throat and brushed off her dress. "Thank you all," she said, gulping and holding her head down. Dependent on the kindness of people, she chose to follow these strangers. Who for some reason, chose to protect. She attempted to clear her mind, rubbing the soreness in her wrists, whispering yet another thanks.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Thanks, and don't worry if you go away. You're character will be in safe keeping. Have fun!

Re: [OOC] Plague

Hey yous guys! ^_^

Just wanted to point out that i can't post until it's morning..........and i'll be leaving for Spring Break vacation tomorrow night. We'll be out of the country from the 9th-18th. So if it isn't morning in the RP and my character is found by late afternoon tomorrow, i'll have to send her away w/out her meeting any of the main characters, and then post when i get back, if the RP is still going! =) Hopefully it'll be morning soon though, and my character can at least be introduced, before i find a reason to send her away for a short while. ^_-

WB Neman! =)

Re: [OOC] Plague

I'm gonna be makin a post either today or tomorrow.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Thanks, you too! :)

Re: [OOC] Plague

Have a good weekend mate

Re: [OOC] Plague

Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be away from the internet for the rest of the weekend until sunday night. Which is why, if you read my post, I took my character away from everyone else. So, if it didn't make sense why I did it, now it might. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and have fun with the journey at hand. It's a pleasure sharing this story with you all. :)

Re: [OOC] Plague

Yeah, I'm not the one to get on someones case about their posts. As long as the story flows, it's fine. :) You're a great writer.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Okay, so i was kind of lost as to what all was happening after my post........but RPG.com is screwing up for everyone and i think some of the post here are out of order too, like they are on other RPs! But since no one again approached me, i think my post is fine!?! xD

See ya guys later! <3

Re: [OOC] Plague

Aight. Duly noted.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Heyyy! *wavessss*
(i'm suddenly hyper....>_<)

Mmkay, anyways lol, no matter how pooped i am from practice i will make a point to get online tomorrow before i go to sleep, but the 2nd is going to be crazyyyy, not sure where on RPG.com i've mentioned it, so i'm going to all my OOC's now!:

I'm auditioning for Juilliard, which is a kick-ass performing arts school here the city, and how long i'm gone for the day will all depend on how far i get in the process.
If i make it through the cuts and to the interviews, which the odds are staked WAY against me as a first-timer, i won't be on at all Friday since that will likely take all day long. But if i get sent packing early on, i'll pop on that night likely. (.^_^.) xD

Re: [OOC] Plague

Maybe, who knows. It's just interesting to see.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Must be because today is the 29th of february leap year it says thursday march the first on my screen

Re: [OOC] Plague

I know its a pain too. On a side note... why the hell does your post say 10:40Pm EST today, when that hasn't even happened yet... As of my clock on my Computer it says 5:12pm EST Today.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Dame, don't worry about being on your own in this for so long. I'm sure a mage like yourself wouldn't just trust a church man so quickly anyway. And, I do understand about life and such taking precedents over this. It's cool.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Santii wrote:Any ideas on how you are going to join up with the group dame? I was thinking i leave the church in search of supplies and you attack me and bound me up thinking im an abomination or something like that.

I have no idea atm, I'll likely wake up, rp with myself some more, and then find a psycho-groovy reason to leave in the middle of the night and play out your scenario!!?........
I'm taking a lunch break now......but have to leave to get back back to the studio in like half an hour, so i'm sure i won't be up on all the post by then......BUT i did put the posts i missed on my mp5player/e-book reader last night...........so i can read on the train/bus! xD ^.^

Re: [OOC] Plague

Any ideas on how you are going to join up with the group dame? I was thinking i leave the church in search of supplies and you attack me and bound me up thinking im an abomination or something like that.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Yeah, i honestly didn't feel like RPing with myself earlier, which is why i haven't posted again yet[and am a bit behind]..........i mistakenly assumed every single character wasn't going to meet up in the same place so quickly lol. Plus i'm a bit bummed atm(i suck - i know this, you don't have to tell me *hides* v_v), so I'll post tomorrow after i get back from practice.....which will be from like 8am-4pm. (o^_^o)

I have a huge audition on the 2nd, and will likely not be on most of the 1st or 2nd though.......just a warning. [Life] >_<

Re: [OOC] Plague

Might I add, if your character is by themselves, it's a lot easier to write a longer post. That's why I don't have a set number of words that each post must contain.

Re: [OOC] Plague

Alright, I don't mind my character being spoken for either in order to move someones post along.

Re: [OOC] Plague

I dont mind that at all you can move my character about and say a few things.

I may have found what i was looking for need to see if it works
