Shizuka has the appearance of a traditional Japanese woman, however; there is one little oddity about her. The color of her eyes is not a simple black or brown, but something a little more unique. Her eyes can be considered a red-violet shade, something of a mix between a violet and lilac color. There are times where the color can appear to fade, as if the red hues rescind and leave just the lilac shade. And other times, her eyes appear a deep, blue-violet. They are shaped traditionally almond, though there is a slight tilt towards the end, giving her eyes a bit of an exotic flare. They are beautiful, but perhaps in an odd sort of way. Where they should have been admired, she receives odd stares of morbid curiosity and fear. Her eyes used to be warm and gentle, but after she decided to leave her old life behind, they have become a little more calloused and cold. She has to pass herself off as a man, and this is the only way she knows she can keep her true identity a secret.

In order to pass herself off as a man, Shizuka has learned to tone down her body figure. Naturally curved and svelte, her bosom was a little larger than most women, and it was, perhaps, the aspect of her figure that she had the most difficulty with. She's learned to bind her chest to be as flat as possible, but during most nights, away from the general populace and in complete solitude, she removes the bindings. It can be a little painful, after all. Her hair is a solid black color with a few strands holding a strange shade of purple. It gives her hair a bit of an ink-like appearance, the kind oil usually gives off under direct sunlight. Of course, it is a prettier shade than the oil, but it shares similar properties. The length is rather long, falling down her backside with some of her bangs cut unevenly. At one time, her bangs were cut so that they were considered hime cut, or princess cut. Over the years, the length of her bangs have grown out so that she could style them better.

Shizuka was once a calm and mild-mannered woman, someone who obeyed without hesitation and was always kind. Part of her still is, and it is the part of her that she misses. Living in the world she knows has caused her to grow cold, and distant towards people because she doesn't want them to know her secret. She is trying to make something of herself, to leave her name in the world, and there is only one way to do that. This makes her a dedicated person, someone willing to see anything she puts her mind to, till the end. But it also makes her a bit stubborn. She'll often deny something if someone is onto her charade, and more often than not, she'll leave the city for a few weeks to be forgotten. It usually works, but there is always that one person who remembers. She is, after all, a hard person to forget. Not only with her eye color, but because of how she presents herself. Despite being a bit calloused, Shizuka is very confident in herself.

And it shows in the way she addresses people and by the way she walks. She isn't one to just walk away, however; she also isn't one to instigate anything unless someone insults her honor. She has become well-versed in the art of deception, but that doesn't mean she has to let people walk over her, either. Even as her humble former self, she was never one to allow someone to belittle her. It might be the reason as to why she was never married, and why she was disowned. Despite her tribulations, Shizuka has still managed to keep a somewhat positive outlook, and tries her best to see the good in people. She might be a hypocrite in doing so, since she believes there is nothing good in her, or the world, she still tries to believe there is. It's a complicated situation for her since people have always thought her strange. In reality, Shizuka is still the same mild-mannered woman she was, but with a bit more of a jagged edge to her.

Shizuka's tale is a little strange, but perhaps not too uncommon. She was born under unusual circumstances, and by unusual, one can only assume. Her father was a samurai, serving a local daimyo at the time he met Shizuka's mother. She was a humble woman, lovely in appearance, but perhaps eerily so. There was something that captivated Yatsuhiro, and he could not ignore the allure the woman had. Eventually, she birthed him a daughter. Though Shizuka was not the son he wanted, he raised her all the same. After the untimely death of her mother, Yatsuhiro took Shizuka and left his daimyo.

He traveled the land with her in tow, training her to be strong and resilient in the case something happened to him. She would have no one else to care for her if something happened to him, and no man would look at her in a way that would warrant an arranged marriage. Shizuka was an odd creature in both looks and personality, and Yatsuhiro knew this. He knew no one wanted his daughter, so he did what he could.

Shizuka, however, was too young to understand the ways of the world. She couldn't understand why people looked at her the way they did, or why someone like her and her father always had to live outside of the villages. She couldn't understand why her father always trained her in secret. She used to think that he was ashamed of her, that having a son would have been better, however; he always assured her that that was not he case. He loved her insofar as he could, and tried to provide her with a decent living. His training, however, came in handy when he died. She doesn't quite remember what happened, only that she was thirteen years old when he passed. She lived on the streets, stealing what she could, and foraging for what she couldn't.

It wasn't easy, but she survived. It wasn't until she decided in her father's footsteps did she start searching for someone to train her, however; no one would take on a woman as an apprentice. She decided, sometime ago, to drop her name, and disguise herself as a man. She took on the name Haruyuki, and to this day is still searching for a master. Rumor has it that there is one, but she must find a man who claims to know where he is. And thus begins her journey.

Shizuka sighed softly, fixing the wakizashi and katana at her side. Her hakama, which was a plain gray color, was larger than she had anticipated it being. It did the job she wanted it to, but she still felt a little overwhelmed by it. Perhaps she could adjust it later? Soft whispers in the city filled her ears as she walked with purpose, but with no destination in mind. Her posture was straight, her shoulders pulled back showcasing a hint of confidence, but also humility. There was rumor of a man in this city who knew someone important. Someone who could train her to properly wield her father's blade, and make something of herself.

"You'll find the man you're looking for inside Hiroto's tea shop," a man had told her. The word's echoed in her mind as she glanced at the signs littered about. The city of Kyoto was a bustling thing, merchants trying to sell their produce or trinkets, and villagers trying to negotiate prices. The only signs she was able to discern were those of the vendors. She couldn't find this Hiroto's shop. She must have passed by another four shops before a sigh of defeat escaped her thin lips. She placed her hand on the hilt of her katana, pushing it forward a bit before allowing her hand to rest gently on it. Perhaps she should ask for more direction? She glanced around for the first person she could spot, and pulled the soft smile off of her lips, replacing it instead with a tight frown. Her entire features, once soft and serene, were now harsh and calloused.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where to find Hiroto-san's shop?" she asked, her voice deeper and at once light. This was, perhaps, the hardest part in pulling of her guise. Her voice was naturally frail sounding and light, almost too feminine for even herself, however; she managed to sharpen the soft corners of it to muster a more masculine voice. The man she spoke to, however, seemed a little skepitcal. He glanced at her, an eyebrow raised in slight confusion before glancing over her attire and posture. Anything out of place would surely give her away as a woman, however; she was used to the scrutiny. She was used to getting weird stares because of her appearance. Even as a child, people would look at her with mild curiosity or plain disgust.

"Yer standing in front of it," the man finally replied, his kansai-ben dialect apparent. Shizuka merely blinked slowly, turned and glanced upon the building she was, indeed, looking for. She turned back towards the man, her face pulled in total neutrality, and offered him a bow and thanks. "All kinds of weird folk coming up here," he spoke beneath his breath. Shizuka merely ignored him and walked into the small shop. It was filled with scents that overwhelmed her at first, some of the jasmine tea that was being served, and most of it from the smell of the men who occupied it.

The shop itself wasn't dirty, but it could have used a bit of a tender hand, something that caused Shizuka's own hand to twitch. She ignored it, and surveyed the perimeter. She was looking for a man who stuck out like a sore thumb, but none seemed to stand out in that way - at least not at first. It wasn't until she spotted a man with unusual hair the color of the sun, and she immediately made her way towards him. Once she was near him, she stopped a few feet back, adjusted herself and posture before resuming her walk.

"Are you him" she spoke, asking if he was the man. She had no other description to go by, and this man was the only one who fit the description given.

The tea was quite delicious, Catia thought, and different from any tea she'd ever had before. She wasn't sure what it was about this tea that made it different from back home, but it tasted more...flower like she decided was the best way to explain it. She closed her eyes and inhaled the pleasant aroma and was about to take another sip before she heard a voice. "Are you him?" She opened her eyes and blinked up at the man looking down at her. Catia was dumbstruck for a moment, trying to determine what he meant. Perhaps one of the men from the ship sent him over here to work out a trade deal? It wouldn’t be abnormal for them to do that as they’ve done it before at one of the small islands they stopped at along the way. Either way she knew she needed to respond and soon before she was considered rude.

“Perhaps, I suppose you have to be more specific in order for me to answer that question.” She finally responded, hoping it was the right thing to say. As she said this, though, she noticed out of the corner of her eye another man watching them and he had a smirk on his face. She found this rather odd, but didn’t want him to be aware of her noticing him. So she decided just to silently keep a watchful eye on him in case he decided to make some sort of move.

Kiyoshi had entered the tea shop quite a while ago and was silently enjoying tea as he watched people come and go. He was becoming hungry, but this hunger wasn’t something the rice in front of him could satisfy. It was a hunger that accumulated over the last few weeks since he had his last meal, since he last feasted on the soul of a human. In fact he could go several months without feasting again and survive just fine, but it didn’t mean he’d like it. So he had come into this town two weeks ago in hopes to ensnare another meal.

His eyes had flicked to the door as he sensed quite the delicious soul walking in and when he saw the source he realized not only was he delicious smelling, but quite the interesting sight. His rosey colored skin, eyes the color of the ocean, and hair as yellow of the sun he had come to the conclusion that this was the soul he wanted to lure so he could feast. Now all he had to do was listen to any conversations this man had an determine what he most desired.

Not long after another man walked in and this one's scent hit him like a brick. He was almost irresistible and it took Kiyoshi everything in him to keep from pouncing on him. Patience and cleverness was how he always won his meals and this could be no exception. When he stopped by the yellow haired man’s table a smile grew across his face. Perhaps he could win two delicious meals if these two ended up knowing each other. So he carefully listened into the conversation between the two that was about to follow.
