a character in “Samurai: Reborn”, as played by Taizan

Description

Name: Tomasu Otomo
Age: 21
Clan: Otomo
Side: Fighting the monsters

Personality

Tomasu, although young, is a rather wise person. Wise, as in he tries to act the part. He is, in fact, a lazy individual who dedicates his time to laying about and training. While he is a skilled fighter, Tomasu hardly ever gives you his complete attention. He'd rather be doing nothing and enjoying the scenery than working. However, he will take up a more serious attitude if needed. Tomasu can become very cold and quiet once a bad situation presents itself. After the monsters were released, his entire attitude changed. His more easy going side will pop out now and again, but he has become much more serious. The only time he enjoys joking around is after one of the monsters lies dead at his feet.

Equipment

Tomasu carries a katana, the traditional weapon for the Japanese Samurai. But he also carries a bo staff, which he will use alongside the katana to form a rather odd but effective style of fighting. He is also skilled in Japanese Kung Fu and enjoys fighting with his fists more than his sword.

History

Tomasu grew up within the Otomo clan, being taught about the ancient evils when he was a young boy. Having such a duty pressured onto him, Tomasu would retreat to a quiet and secluded portion of the mountainside that he lived on. Here is where he and his older brother would spend most of their time, relaxing and talking about anything that came to mind. Tomasu idolized his brother, who was a guard for the Otomo Shrine, the burial ground of the hell monsters. It was his brother who taught him how to handle a blade, and how to enjoy every aspect of each day. But it was also his brother who removed the seal from the shrine. And when he did this, he was killed by the outbreak of hell monsters. The clan holds nothing against Tomasu's brother, fully aware that a demon had overtaken his body. Outraged that something that sinister could happen to the his family, Tomasu has set out to seek vengeance on the things that killed his brother. He has been traveling for a few weeks, and has finally reached Tokyo, where he has tracked several of the monsters.

So begins...

The girl in the green dress walked silently along a dusty road. Her fellow clansman had doubtless traversed this same path not- Oh? Well, that was a surprise, Mokou thought, stopping short as a shape became visible in front of her. She didn't know much about her "brother" Tomasu, but she doubted he would mind help, even if it came from her. While she normally would have been reluctant to present herself to another clan member after brazenly running away and stealing a family heirloom, it would be useful, she realized, to have the company of a male. That way, she wouldn't be accosted by anyone along the road for being a lone woman. The swords were stowed securely in a bag over her back, so she wasn't like to attract attention for carrying blades, a privilege generally reserved for samurai, something she obviously was not.

So, she made up her mind, and strode resolutely forward, her pace just slightly faster than her trudging target, although she tried to match the sound of her quiet footfalls to his own so as not to arouse suspicion.

"Hey!" She called, waving a hand as a slight breeze blew through the woodland path, her silver hair and emerald green skirts fluttering about her. "Wait up!"

Well. That should have attracted his attention. She just hoped that he wouldn't pull a blade. Given that her voice, blunt and forceful as it was, was that of a woman, he wouldn't have much of an ingrained reason to be a afraid, but for all she knew, he could be hyperparanoid.

"Ya' know, it's rude to immediately move to your sword when you see someone," Mokou scolded, grinning brightly as her target entered her path. "That's considered by most people to be a challenge. Looks like you skipped more classes on manners than I did." Fidgeting slightly, the emerald-clad warrior inconspicuously slid the spherical bag previously slung over her shoulder down to a more easily accessible position under her arm, where she could slide her hand in and draw forth one of her swords in an instant. Given that Samurai generally obeyed a universal code of honor and would not attack an unarmed opponent - especially a woman, a fact which was fortunate, if infuriating - she doubted he would draw his own weapon, but he was issuing her an unspoken challenge by moving his hand to his weapon, a challenge she was sorely tempted to accept.

"You're Tomasu, right?" She asked cheerfully, her smile not cracking for an instant despite her rather cold reception. Despite this, however, she was on her guard, ready to strike or defend herself at a moment's notice.

"So you do recognize me. How do you like the new look?" Mokou said, grinning. Her smile, however, quickly vanished when Tomasu began lecturing her on how she wasn't supposed to be outside of clan territory. How it wasn't "safe." That really made her mad. She'd been worried about receiving a reaction like this, but had at least hoped it wouldn't be the very first thing her "brother" clansman said.

"No way in hell!" She replied forcefully, cutting him off before he could finish his offer to take her back. "Besides," Mokou continued in a more composed manner, although it was still clear that she was righteously indignant at Tomasu's condescending reply. "Even if I did go back, they probably wouldn't let me in." As she spoke, she reached into the bag under her arm and took out its contents, sliding the daisho set into her belt so they crisscrossed on her back, making them easier to carry. "Tentou and Makai. I stole 'em from the dojo and ran off before anyone realized I was gone," She said proudly, smirking. "It's the Otomo clan's job to take care of those demon-thingies, right? I can do a hell of a lot more cutting them up in a fight than I can sweeping the shrine and brewing tea like some stupid maid. I've been practicing fighting for years now, so don't you dare tell me that me being here 'isn't safe.' That's why I stopped you. If you're headed to find those Demons, then I'm coming with you, whether you like it or not!" She declared. Tomasu might have known a bit about her rebellious streak, given that she was somewhat infamous back at the home palace for her tomboyish nature and combat fixation.

"Good," Mokou said cheerily, grinning as though she was quite pleased with herself. That had been easier than she expected. It seemed Tomasu knew better than to turn her down. Had he tried to do so, she wouldn't have taken it very well at all. However, since he hadn't bothered trying to dissuade her from her chosen course of action, she was perfectly satisfied to just follow him. Even when he suddenly grabbed her and began moving them through the brush, she followed quite willingly.

"Aww, great. Now I'm gonna have grass all over me," she grumbled quietly, almost inaudible as she picked her way along the path her made for her, some of the taller strands of grass whipping her in the face as she passed by, which really did nothing to improve her now-sour mood.

She was making her way cheerfully towards the dirt path, when she spotted a rabbit. Feeling rather frisky, she decided to play with the bunny and see how long she can keep up with it. With a loud "GAH!" she jumped in front of the rabbit, startling it from its nap. Soon she was chasing it around the forest, completely forgetting about her predicament for a while. The rabbit soon got the idea too, and was jumping this way and that, sometimes faking a dash. A few minutes later, the rabbit had lost sight of her, and was looking about warily in some grass.

Perfect for an ambush, Hikiko thought. She sneaked up on it through the grass, using her ninja training to keep silent, and stood up suddenly, uttering a loud "GAH!!!"

And found herself face to face with some traveller with his daughter? Sister? It was a traveller with a girl beside him in any case.

Her face turned bright red. "AAhh....ah...I....uhm...."

Suddenly she shouted, "SORRY!!" and ran away. In her haste she forgot to see where she was looking, and slammed face first into a tree. "GUH!" Now even more embarrassed, she gave short apologetic bow and ran again, this time straight into another girl, Chinese from what little she can see before running into her.

She was about to speak when the loud mouthed girl spoke, Mokou if she heard correctly. Soon the Chinese and Mokou were having a loud conversation. Well, it seemed as if they were good people, though she had no idea what the Chinese was talking about. The man was silent though, until he interrupted their conversation asking the Chinese about the Demo Kuma. Feeling rather left out, and more than a little bit awkward by the situation, Hikiko decided she should leave.

"Ano.... Sorry about earlier. I-if you will excuse me, I will be going now."

Giving a deep bow she turned to leave. Wonder if they noticed I had a katana? Perhaps not. After all, a ninja wouldn't be a good one if they noticed he or she had a weapon from the get go. Good thing she had this large cloth to wrap around it. Who were those people anyways? Didn't seem to be normal travelers, not with those kinds of weapons. The Chinese did mention a Yaomo, though. Demon in Chinese if she got it right. And those mercenary company, was she here on contract? Hired by a worried daimyo or something? Ah well, no good will come over worrying about it. These travelers may have the weapons and some skills, but they will never be able to face a demon head on. Not without some trainings.

Ah, now that reminded her, she should go and get help from the Otomo clan. They should be fighting the demons too like the Soga clan. Otomo...otomo....Why does it feel as if she was missing something?

Haru stood up upon hearing the voices. Without turning around, she analyzed the situation. Two females. One male. The females did not seem to like each other. Despite her curiosity, the corner of her mouth lifted in a half smile. Amusing.

Taking a deep breath, she turned and saw the three. Something struck her as odd about them. They did not seem... ordinary. Haru raised an eyebrow. Interesting. Might as well check the situation out. Making allies couldn't hurt, she reminded herself. The grass brushed against her as she approached them, cool and brazen as ever. She whistled a short note.

"'Ey!" she called. "Whassup?" It might have been informal, but that was her style. It's not like she was trying to impress anyone.

"'Future priestess?!' Don't make me laugh, Tomasu!" Mokou objected stoutly, giving a slight glare to her annoying fellow clansman. She did not object further, however, for just then, two strange figures appeared out of nowhere. The first hailed them rather rudely, but Mokou didn't really care how polite or rude they were. Grinning and waving back, she was just about to reply when she heard a loud noise, like something stampeding through the brush. Turning about, she placed a hand on her sword. The sound stopped suddenly, but although nothing appeared, she didn't withdraw her hand from Tentou's hilt. Not until she confirmed the fact that a person was now walking toward them. She might have removed her hand then from politeness, but she delayed a moment, noticing that the newest arrival was wearing what looked like a shroud of chains, a most unnatural mask to hide one's face with. He hailed then in a somewhat nervous voice, which only further confused the young warrior. Too many things about this man's sudden arrival, appearance and actions didn't add up.

"If this is your hunting ground, then why don't you know where you are?" She asked pointedly, sounding rather skeptical of the chainheaded man's claims. Turning back to Tomasu, she motioned toward the road and whispered.

"With all the people who have showed up so suddenly, I don't think standing out here in the tallgrass serves any purpose but to give us a bad case of itches. Besides, if something happens and a fight starts, it might be better to be out in the open."
