Knuckles The Echidna's Story

High above where Sonic was in Central City an other worldly place hidden by the clouds, an island paradise of mountains, a temple in ruins, and a large rain forest existed. This was a place that captivated the mind and let it wander through the throes of the ancient past, a past belonging to creature called the Chao, their protectors the red echidna tribe, and their prized gem a green emerald the size of three men. This emerald was named the Master Emerald and it had special value to this island because it protected the wild life, kept this lasting land peaceful, and most importantly kept the island, Angel Island floating by emitting a glowing green light called chaos energy.

Sonic's thoughts probably drifted to said place, and his friendly rival Knuckles The Echidna, a red echidna (the last echidna of the red echidna tribe), as events unfolded with him and the strange shard of Master Emerald that had come into his possession. Knuckles The Echidna, as the last echidna, was destined for one goal and that goal was to protect Master Emerald and keep his island home from harm by making sure it never shattered. Unfortunately, Knuckles had a bad habit. He was extremely gullible and had let it shatter quite a few times in the past, most recently when Dr. Eggman had stolen it not too long ago. Knuckles the Echidna had managed to get it back after chasing off a bat named Rogue The Bat, but like past encounters even before this one it embarrassed him greatly. Knuckles though was hot headed, brash and stubborn though and with these traits he punched, smashed and climbed his way towards finding the Master Emerald shards each and every time it shattered. The question was then how did that Master Emerald shard come into Sonic's life this time? Knuckles The Echidna had been rather careful recently to not let the Master Emerald face harm, but obviously somehow it had.



An echidna with red fur long, spiky, dread locks, and a white fur collar lay down on an ancient looking step at the bottom of a shrine. This shrine led up to a high altar far above him where a giant green emerald sat sparkling in the bright sun. The echidna sighed and pulled his black sunglasses down over his face with a large, spiky white glove. "I'm gonna' take a nap and really enjoy myself today. I'm so tired of having to go running around looking for you." He turned his head up towards the sparkling jewel above him and added, "Master Emerald you and I need to stay like this-"

Suddenly the echidna stood up, something strange stirred through the air, the echidna didn't know what it was but it was menacing and he needed to stop it.

"Dang it if my name isn't Knuckles..." he muttered to himself. In an instant his precious emerald exploded into many pieces before he could finish his thought, the cause unknown. Knuckles whole body shook and he ran up the stairs towards the Master Emerald, all the pieces were there so perhaps he could repair it before the island started to drop from the sky. Whatever had just happened was really bad. Before he could reach it though another flash happened and lightening touched down in front of him causing him and the pieces of the emerald to be sent flying. Knuckles flailed his arms through the air and he caught a tiny shard of the emerald in his glove before he plummeting through the air. His island quickly became a mere dot in the sky.

"Why is this happening to me, what is happening to me?" Knuckles pondered before his body was cushioned by the roof of a building.

Within the middle of the park, Sonic stood tall as he looked around in place in case anything was out of the normal. He then sighed deciding to run immediately where he believed the emerald piece had landed. He started upon a down hill rail upon the middle of the street. Leaping immediately as the rail ended upon reaching a crossroads. He did stop traffic due to them thinking they would run right into the blue hedgehog but suddenly he dashed while boosting down the east street sliding upon curves. As he slid upon the curves, Sonic had to hop quickly among cars and such coming along the way which he was use to. It was during this time that Sonic thought outloud during this run.

"I bet eggman is behind this.." His tone annoyed but truly believable as he dashed straight.

Sonic came upon a loop where he boosted himself to make sure he made it through without falling and upon the ending flew quite a ways to where he spotted the piece of the master emerald resting on top of a small building in which he landed. He slowly walked towards it and picked it up gently.

"Heh - man Knucklehead, You sure put me through a lot of running to find such a small piece" Sonic laughed as he turned around noticing he was in the residential area. the blue hedgehog smiled knowing that he should probably immediately rush back towards the city and seek out Knuckles. If an explosion sent the emeralds flying this far, there was no telling where the red echidna could have landed. Thus made Sonic immediately hop off and run towards the city once more. He figured a different route wouldn't hurt seeing he may have caused a little bit of trouble behind him.



As Flash noticed the green emerald's shard fly over the two buildings she was between she paused. It was nothing she has ever seen before and she wished to have followed it but seeing that it disappeared from her sight so quickly she shook off the idea. Her mind was rather calm for now even though it was only to the fact that Eggman has not shown himself. After walking out of the alley she found herself in an industrial field. She only had the thought that there was an industrial plant being built. She noticed the barrels that said "G.U.N." She shook her head with a smirk. "This may be fun.. she thought. The pink fox felt bored before coming here but just then she suddenly felt like a good run would do her well.

The pink fox looked up and noticed before running that a emerald landed upon the top of the beams of the building's structure. She smiled and then began running first starting on the lower section where a small metal pipe which she grabbed with one hand flinging herself to the second level. There she ran straight on one side of the construction site hopping to the next as she then jumped upon a crane which was actively in motion raising her up to the very top level as she held on. Truthfully Flash wasn't too well with heigths but she was curious of this stone. As Flash finally made it only 10 feet from the emerald she jumped immediately trying to reach the edge however....she failed it. Suddenly seeing herself fall at massive speed she grasped the emerald within her hand suddenly blinking in a flash to the Master Emerald's piece. grabbing it and using "Chaos Control" once more as she lunged herself off the beam soaring through the air. She landed upon the building where the red echidna layed after sighing. She didn't notice him right behind her because she landed facing the construction site but she sighed holding it up in the air examining it as she slid the chaos emerald into her pocket.

Blaze ran through the city, not necessarily at full speed but close to it, looking for anyone she would know. Instead she saw cars, people, and more cars. Her and… Silver ,is his name she thinks, used to see these cars torn, rusty, and completely wrecked. Seeing them now sent a shiver down her spine as she had seen how powerful they were when Silver threw… Wait, threw? Blaze thought about this for a second before shaking it all away.

Deciding to stay out of the humans way, for she had seen know one like her, Blaze quickly dashed into an ally way. The lavender cat hid in the shadows until she had heard a loud Thump behind her. She turned on her heels and immediately scanned her surrounding area before she had realized it had come from the top of the building. Turning her head up so that her eyes can register how tall the building actually was, Blaze immediately took notice that it was a very tall building, and hearing a thump like that from all the way down here must be that what ever it was had made that sound must had fallen a great height. She analyzed this a second, pondering whether or not to go up there and see if what ever it was, was alright.

Blaze sighed deeply before she jumped from wall to wall making her way up to the roof until she got close to the edge and grabbing a brick poking out of the wall and resting her feet on the ledge. The reason why she stopped is because Blaze could here the sound of a voice and the feet of a person who had landed on the building. Now thinking the victim of this fall had already gotten help, she sighs out of relief and annoyance, for she thought that this was one of the humans doings, and jumped onto the roof of the other building soon darting off and jumping over the side of the building, that was quite shorter than the one she had heard the sound emanate from, and landing on a garbage bin before making her way off and into the shadows once more, hoping that the people on the roof didn’t see her.

Knuckles awakened to the sound of someone in boots or high heels landing off to the of him his eyes fluttered open and he grabbed his aching head quickly to try and dull the sound of his brain rattling around in his head. "What the heck happened to me?" he muttered to himself as he turned around and saw a pink fox with a black skirt, a long blue shirt, and gray sneakers standing in front of him with her back seemingly turned away from him.

He barely saw her slide something into her pocket and said, "Is that you Tails, wait, no, you're too girly to be Tails just who are you?" he stated as he pointed a demanding finger at Flash and glared at her with contempt. His blue eyes blazed and he growled, "I want some answers fast since I just got knocked off my island by someone and lost something precious to me." He didn't know who Flash The Fox was so he said nothing about losing the Master Emerald since for all he knew she could like Rogue The Bat and hunting for it with a grander purpose in mind. He crossed his arms across he chest and ground his shoe into the concrete of the roof waiting for an answer. He wasn't about to use physical force unless he had to, since they'd just met, but something almost urged him to do so, he could just feel this awful vibe coming from her like she was just going to ignore him.





Not too far away from where Knuckles the Echidna was on the roof a young cat walked through the city along the edge of a chalk white side walk putting one foot in front of the other. She was minding her own business, but getting many stares from the people around her as she strut through the city. Cars whizzed by her along the edge of sidewalk on the paved road and tried to avoid her. Unfortunately, she was a site for sore eyes and many stared at her for the reason that she was a talking cat, one that had apparently lost its mind for the reason she was so close to the side of the road. The problem was that thanks to her short sleeve shirt, short shorts, dark purple boots, and strange blue hand gloves she seemed like a normal "girl" to them, yet the humans watching her still really felt they should walk up and say something about the dangers of the street. In their minds it was clear that she was from out of town.

"What a catastic place this is!" she exclaimed as she looked up at all the tall skyscrapers around her and ignored the cars passing her by. "I've not been to such a lovely city before, but I've got to remember my goal, daddy needs my help!" Suddenly a car swerved out of her and caused her to spin and kick her long legs out like a ballerina. She did not fall though and simply said as she regained her balance, and shocked many of the pedestrians, "Those machines they have here, those cars, they're really fast. However, I doubt they're as fast as Sonic The Hedgehog. I really need that guy's help."

Long ago her father had showed him to her in the picture of a magazine and said, "If you ever need help, go to him."

She looked around at the baffled pedestrians and smiled before walking over to a local newsstand and picking up the local paper. She then asked the owner when she saw Sonic's face on the front cover, "Have you seen this hedgehog?" pointing at Sonic's face so she would give him a good idea of who he was talking about.

"Everyone's seen Sonic the Hedgehog around these parts, but the best people to probably talk to about where he currently is are his friends Tails Miles Prowler or Amy Rose. They live in the city and could surely point you in his direction." the owner stated as he grabbed the newspaper from her and put it back on the newspaper rack. "I'll give you their addresses, but before you go you ought to watch where you're walking on the streets."

Luna nodded, leaned against the counter top of the stand and said, "Caterrific, I'll be sure to give the two of them a call and see if they can get Sonic to help me."

As the newspaper owner wrote out their addresses on a sheet of paper he asked Luna, "Why do you need Sonic The Hedgehog to help you?"

Luna sighed, shrugged and then answered, "My daddy fell down a mine shaft in the Mystic Caves-"

"And-" the newspaper owner said in a very uninterested tone as he finished writing out Tails' and Amy's address.

Luna took the paper from him, folded it up, and pocketed it before saying, "And, I think he fell into another dimension..."

The newspaper's eyes widened and he condoled, "I think that really does sound like a problem for Sonic!" Before he could say anymore though Luna said, "Thanks, got to go, have a catty day!" Before his eyes he watched her jump ten feet and land on the roof a taxi cab out driving out in the middle of the street.

"What is it with the increase of talking animals these days?" the newspaper owner wondered as he went back to his business of selling newspapers for the locals of in Central City.

Flash was amazed by the green fragrence of the gem's fragment. She was observing it carefully. She knew just by it's shape it was chipped off something. Especially seeing no ordinary stone would have just been upon a construction site. Her red eyes continued examining it as she rose the chipped gem into the air where the sun hit it. Her smile expanded until a voice spoke suddenly and rather demanding. It startled her to where she almost dropped the piece luckily hitting it back to her hand with her tail.

"Is that you Tails, wait, no, you're too girly to be Tails just who are you?"

She turned around looking towards Knuckles with a grin as she tossed the emerald slightly up into the air only to catch it repetively.
"Tails? Heh, I think i remembered that unusual fox with two tails right? Hehe. I'm Flash kiddo, Its funny..." She appeared to get off track looking to the emerald forgetting to ask Knuckles his name. "This gem gave me the grin that i obtained when i grasped this other emerald . . . " She said smiling as her right hand passed the left the Master Emerald chip. The pink fox then grabbed the chaos emerald out looking down upon it.

"Strange power imminates from both of them... except for some reason i feel this green one is incomplete" She looked at Knuckles as he spoke again.

"I want some answers fast since I just got knocked off my island by someone and lost something precious to me."

Flash blinked only naturally amazed about the endurance and stamina the echidna has from being knocked off a island in the sky.

"Wow .. Thats quite a fall -- I'll tell you what. You can get some answers if you catch me!" She smiled turning around and walk backwards towards the edge letting herself fall. She was afraid of heigths, that is true but the power of the chaos emerald was used once more allowing her to rush away into another alley hoping Knuckles would follow her like as if it were a game of tag. Truth be told Flash had no idea what he wanted to ask but it didn't matter to her too much.



It appeared as sonic was running suddenly Flash and him passed by each other. Only to see her wink by him. He stopped himself sliding immediately as he looked back to see who it was. He scratched his head seeing the fox disappeared shortly after. He payed no mind running after her, seeing that he had something for his friend. Sonic immediately rushed onto a building boosting himself so he could run up the side with ease. He stopped looking around to see if he would spot Knuckles which came to be a success.. three buildings down. Sonic darted over the first only to go upon a rail that lead him to the building Knuckles was on.

Sonic then walked over. "Heya Knuckles! I'm glad you weren't too hard to catch, I got somethin for ya"
Sonic smiled holding his piece of the master emerald chip to him. The blue hedgehog then began to speak with a chuckle in his voice. He looked around to see if any more flew by but he saw nothing in sight.

"You know, you put me through a lot getting this emerald piece, what happend on Angel Island?"
Even though there was a jest in his voice, Sonic really was curious as to what was going on another question that was brought up was who was the pink fox who passed him. He had a idea at first it could've been Amy but he shook it off, especially seeing how fast she was going and it came from this direction. So Knuckle's had to have seen it.

"Hey pal, I was curious did you happen to see that pink fox?" he spoke not knowing if Knuckles answered his first question. There was a lot going on in one day more then what he ever expected to happen when he returned. He shook his head trying to get what was going on hoping Knuckles would answer it. He then reached Knuckles finally handing over the piece he obtained.

Knuckles gawked as he watched Flash disappear over the edge of the building. Suddenly Sonic came up to him and said, ""Heya Knuckles! I'm glad you weren't too hard to catch, I got somethin for ya," before placing a shard of the Master Emerald into his hand.

Knuckles looked into Sonic's eyes and growled, showing his irritant manner, "Thanks for getting me the Master Emerald Shard back, but if I knew what had happened to Angel Island I wouldn't be standing here now would I? The only thing I can remember about Angel Island is getting hit by a lightening bolt and losing the Master Emerald. That pink fox you're looking for though just took off from here. She said her name was Flash I think, so if you put two and two together she can probably use lightening bolts." Knuckles relaxed and put his free hand on Sonic's shoulder.

Grippingly it tightly he said, "Go catch that fox, get the Master Emerald shard back, and don't trip. I think she's using a Chaos Emerald so just out run her like you do everyone else. I'm going to stick around and make sure you didn't miss anything." Knuckles let go of Sonic's shoulder and turned away from Sonic before running the in direction Sonic had come from. When he reached the edge of the roof he jumped, caught a small gust of wind, and glided to the next to the one he was previously on. He landed on this building in a crouching position before turning around to look at Sonic once more. "I know we're not always friendly with each other, but get me this piece of Master Emerald and you can have all the chili dogs I can afford." Knuckles smirked at Sonic and gave him a thumbs up to seal the deal. He then ran to the edge of this second building, jumping off the concrete ledge, and landed on a blue and white tarp before bouncing onto the street below. When he got to the bottom finally he looked around and thought, "Central City hasn't changed much since I've last been here, but at least its not a flood plane."





Luna smiled as the taxi cab stopped in front of Amy's apartment complex. She slid of the roof of the taxi cab and walked around to the driver's side. She peered into the cab to and found the guy was a definite Sonic fan based on the giant plush Sonic doll in the back seat. Luna dug hear hand through the pockets of her cargo pants and pulled out a red yarn ball shaped wallet. She unzipped the top and dug through it until she'd counted out the change for the taxi driver. Handing over a large amount of small coins to him she said, "I know I said I'd pay you, but I'm not sure I have enough."

"This is fine," the taxi driver replied as he took the money from her hand. "Any friend of Sonic's is a friend of mine. You do realize you're in front of Amy Rose's home right?"

Luna turned her head to look at the apartment and said, "Oh, I am?" She realized she didn't know as much about Sonic the Hedgehog or his friends as she thought she did.

Luna shrugged and said, "Thanks for the notice, I know at the very least that Sonic might like Amy so I hope I don't make Amy mad while I wait for Sonic."

"I'm sure you'll do fine kid," the taxi cab driver said before pulling a cap he was wearing down over his brow. He smiled, put his foot on the pedal and rode off. Luna then turned around and looked at the large, intimidating building in front of her and whispered, "Here goes nothing..." She walked to the front door and knocked on it. Then she rang he door bell she found for extra measure. While she waited she rested her hands behind her back and twiddled her thumbs, trying to hide her nervousness. She knew from excerpts in the news that Amy had a rather nasty temper and because of this that is why Sonic could not confess his love to Amy. Truthfully though, she'd gotten this information backwards. Amy liked Sonic, but Sonic was often too shy to interact with Amy in the way she wanted to with him.

as he was running rocanto saw what looked like knuckles on the roof above him he stopped short and slamed his fot on the ground for his super jump, when he landed he saw knuckles standing there back facing towards rocanto "knuckles?" he asked "is that you?"

Luna The Cat sighed as she waited for Amy Rose or another person to answer the door. Obviously, the residents of the house were not home. It disappointed her because she needed to get into contact with someone who knew Sonic The Hedgehog. As she stood around tapping her foot she suddenly heard the sound of roller blade hitting against the pavement and turned around to find herself face to face with a rose colored cat who stated and asked, "Hello, I'm Sparx, I'm a friend of Amy Rose are you a friend of Amy Rose as well? Or perhaps Cream?"

Luna thought for a moment about how to respond and said, "Well, no, no I am. Are you a friend of theirs?" She stepped down from the doorstep walked over to the cat and noted many things about her and her appearance. One, she had some rather long eyelashes, two, her short, shoulder length hair was pink, three, she wore a nice white and dark purple dress with dark purple boots that had a plum colored heart shaped design. The last most noticeable thing was her studded color.

"My name is Luna The Cat," she voiced as she smiled at Sparx, "I am looking for friends of Sonic The Hedgehog to help rescue my father who's trapped in a cave somewhat far from here. Its called Mystic Cave and I live nearby. I've spent a good amount of time and money coming here, so I was really hoping people who knew Sonic would be around the city." Luna was sure to try telling as much of her story as she could, perhaps if this was a friend of Sonic's she would pass the message on to him. Luna quickly looked around though and noticed as she gazed up into the sky and saw the moon thtat it was now nighttime. "We should go inside now, I've been standing outside for a long while and its dark."





Once Knuckles was on the ground he looked around the entire alley for the Master Emerald pieces and tried sensing a shard of the Master Emerald with his treasure hunting instincts. Nothing came up after many hours, so he said, "I guess this area's clear of any Master Emerald shards. That's too bad. He walked out of the alley way at the base of the building and looked around. All the ordinary humans were going about their business, certainly not freaked out by him entirely since they knew Sonic The Hedgehog and him oftentimes now did things to help keep the city safe. To see him around though was a bad sign since that meant usually Dr. Eggman was up to trouble again.

When he passed by a little kid and his mother and he heard him comment, "Hey-hey, Mr. Knuckles, is Dr. Egg here?" Knuckles looked at the two of them and shook his head. He wasn't sure if Dr. Eggman was involved in his troubles today, but he wasn't sure. Suddenly, he heard the sounds of sirens and made his way towards the source. The kid had made him think heavily about Eggman for a moment, but right now he needed to figure out why the police were out at night. He skidded to a halt at the bakery's entrance and gawked, "In front of a bakery?" There was quite a few people around, especially a police presence, so it was hard to tell what was going on here.

Knuckles pushed his way through the crowd uncertain what was going on at the moment with everything. He just figured he would watch and find out later when everything came out and was done with.

(I can't post this week and next week. I've been caught up in a lot of things and am busy with some finals. I will try to post again by Friday and I am sorry I have caused such a huge delay in things.)
