James has the ability to manipulate his own blood and use it as a weapon. He can control its properties such as its shape, texture, and sharpness, enabling him to create various weapons limited only by his own imagination. His weapons range from quick bullets of blood propelled at lethal speeds to a pair of twin blades he wraps around both his arms for maximum speed and efficiency. He has also been known to form sticky globs of good or "whips of blood for less lethal confrontations.

James is able to regenerate his own blood rapidly, a must for his someone with his own powers. He also possesses a slight healing factor, allowing him to heal up any cuts he makes on his arms to access the blood necessary for his powers.

Image
|Personality|

Image
James has a cynical and distrustful personality thanks to his own life experience. He is scornful of authority figures and so-called "superheroes", viewing them as hypocrites at best and worse than the criminals they fight against at worst. He has no problem with breaking the law or hurting anyone who either gets in the way or deserves it. James learned long ago that law and order wasn't to be trusted so why should he respect the rules of a society that handed him over to sadists in white labcoats? He has a deep-seated need for destruction and he delights in any he is able to cause and it takes something truly heinous to make him ever feel guilty for his actions. He also enjoys fighting other people like himself, particularly superheroes, partly due to the challenge and partly due to the adrenaline that was injected into him whenever he fought other super-powered experiments such as himself back when he was in the care of the government.

A hedonist at heart, James enjoys drinking, smoking (both nicotine and cannabis), and injecting himself with drugs that he is, in any case, able to flush out of his system with his powers, only refraining from hard substances that he would have trouble flushing out. He loves the opposite sex and doesn't hesitate to welcome another into his bed. To his credit, James is fiercely loyal in any committed relationship he is in and has a certain disdain for cheaters or those who treat their partners badly.

Beneath his violent and pleasure-seeking exterior, James is surprisingly intelligent. Though he wears his status as a middle-school drop out as a badge of pride, he enjoys reading and since he escaped his captors, he has accumulated a small library for himself organized solely by his own interests. It has nearly everything from Shakespeare and Milton to philosophy to pulp fiction novels. He has a sarcastic streak a mile wide and enjoys teasing and snarking at friends or interesting opponents. James also truly believes in Henry's vision of a better world and does care for people other than himself such as those few people he considers friends and his little sister, whom he hasn't seen in over a decade.

Image
|History|

James was a victim of fear and greed. Born the elder child in a family of four, James spent the first ten years of his life in peace, believing that he was loved. This all changed when his powers began to develop as he hit puberty early at the age of eleven. It was an ordinary trial for an ordinary eleven year old. A bigger kid was bullying him at school and regularly beat him up. He was given all the standard advice, "Tell a teacher", "Stand up to him", "Try to empathize with him". Instead, when the bully tried to hit him one too many times, his power manifested.

As the first neared him, James lashed out, causing the blood from his wounds to form into a tight little ball and shoot towards the other boy, grievously injuring him. When the police were called, James was treated like a monster. His parents disowned him and he was transferred to a government facility without getting the chance to see his younger sibling. He was utterly alone there except for one young girl about his sibling's age who was imprisoned there as well a few years after himself. Inevitably, they were forced to fight one another. James, of course, went easy on her and that didn't go unnoticed. The scientists separated the two and it wasn't long after that that the man who he would eventually call his leader freed him amidst the entire facility tearing itself apart. As far as he knew, James was the only one who survived and he vowed vengeance on his tormentors and the society in whose name they worked.

ā€œGo.ā€

The single word, uttered into a communication device, set in motion an explosion of activityā€”quite literally. A small explosive device went off in the western part of the building, taking town a large chunk of the wall but not much else, and it was into the crevasse this created that Dominus gestured for Hellfire to precede him, ducking in after her and leaving several men behind to keep the exit route secure. At the same time, he knew, Riley and James would be entering through the front door, taking steps to usher out most of the bankā€™s occupants and hold the rest hostage, as a deterrent against aggressive police action.

Even with that considered, though, there was a definite time limit on what they could do. Since he had no interest in negotiating with the police or actually harming the hostages, theyā€™d have to be quick about this. Turning sharply left down a hallway in the back of the bank, Dominus came face to face with a security guard, who looked surprised to see two strangers there.

Reacting quickly, he sent a short pulse of energy in the form of electricity into the manā€™s torso, acting much like a taser, and the security guard collapsed on the ground. ā€œThe vault is through here. Donā€™t bother with the panel, just get us through the door.ā€ If anyone could manage a task like that, it would be Caclia, with her superheated flames. He knew she occasionally had issues with how well she could control them, but he was confident that with the ability to focus on what she was doing, sheā€™d manage well, and in the meantime, heā€™d keep anyone from interrupting her work.

They made it to the vault door, which according to the specifications theyā€™d studied, was roughly two feet thick and made of reinforced titanium. Calculations had estimated it would take Hellfire five minutes to get through, and from there, what they needed would be rather simple to access, so time was essential. They had planned in broad strokes, because it was impossible to account for all the potential factors that could come up in a situation like this. So it was best not to have any plan that might hinder their ability to adapt. Everyone knew what their roles were, and he had to trust them to execute those responsibilities according to the circumstances.

He could hear the distant sound of a sirenā€”someone had managed to alert the authorities, and it seemed that time had started in earnest.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, we are tonight's entertainment," James sang as he entered the front door, ignoring the screams as the building shook from the explosion that Dominus had caused in order to get to the real objective. He took a knife and made a few quick cuts on his arms. There was a time where he would flinch at the sudden pain from doing that, but now, it barely registered as an itch in his mind. He grinned and shot a few globs of blood in the air as though they were bullets. What was the point of being a villain if you didn't do it in style.

"Hey, 2008 called. It said to leave its movies alone," a man shouted at him. James laughed. He was glad someone got the reference, but he couldn't let that stand could he. He shot another blood bullet, but he made sure slow it so it didn't do any real damage. It hit the man on the forehead and he fell backward, unconscious.

"Well, that was fun... Now, for the hostages... Hmm, we'll let you go and you and you. Oh, we'll keep you and you," he stated, gesturing for the people he selected to leave while keeping a few random people as hostages as John instructed. He grinned over at Riley.

"Come on, Freak. This is fun!" he said manically, ignoring the looks of the people around him as they came to the conclusion that he was insane.

Caclia stepped through the crevasse that the explosion had created. She walked with Dominus quietly towards the vault. Both of them knew the plan and both were ready to execute it to the utmost degree. As they turned the corner, a surprised security man looked at them. Dominus quickly disable him, before showing the way to the vault.

Eager to burn something, even if it would take a bit, Caclia placed her hands just above the large vault door. It would not take much focus to use her dark fire, but rather to keep it contained. While she was experienced in using her dark fire as projectiles, using it as more of a laser beam was something new to her. If she lost focus the dark fire might spread to a wall, or even Dominus. Burning the boss would not be good.

She also had to focus on how much energy she put into the fire. Too much and the vault might not be burned the whole way. Too little and it would take longer than any of them would want. Time was precious, especially to Dominus. Their plan to rob the bank was not elaborate by any means, but they had planned their entry and escape for a reason. Now that they had entered, the real work began. She thought briefly of James and Riley, otherwise known as Bloodmaster and Freak, holding hostages. She as well as Dominus was confident in their abilities to maintain the civilians.

After her brief thoughts of James and Riley, Caclia began to focus intensely on the task at hand. Keeping her hands over the vault, she bombarded it with a steady stream of dark fire. The purple flames danced over the vault door and around her hands. It hissed as it began to burn the reinforced titanium, glowing a dark purple. Caclia glanced at Dominus, making sure he was far enough away that he wouldn't be burnt by the intense heat of her flames.

She could hear sirens in the distance, but ignored them. She was confident in herself as a fighter and in the Fifth Column. If anybody tried to stop them, Dominus would know what to do. In the event that he didn't, which was ever so slight, the remain three members of the Fifth Column were well equipped to handle any kind of threat that came at them.

The word 'Go' rung in his ear. With that single word, Riley ambled into the bank, morphing into a monster before the civilians' eyes'. Bones cracking, organs shifting, teeth and claws extracting, and clothes shredding at their seams. The process wasn't painfulā€”for the moment. Years of shifting and adrenaline masked the suffering that is morphing. Now-a-days, he can mostly feel the aches and pains after he's shifted back to his normal state. It's kind of like having been in a car accident, or at least, that's how he would describe the after affect feeling. Though the worst part is that he has lost a lot of really good shirts because of his ability.

Riley began snarling at the frightened civilians, causing them to take steps back away from him and the exit. All the while James was putting on a show and picking out hostages. Riley wasn't there to pick out who went and who stayed. He just kept the civilians at bay and made sure that not too manyā€”preferably not anyā€”of them got away. He could care less if they held a small child hostage, it wasn't like they were gonna hurt them anywayā€”well at least not unless Dominus ordered it.

Riley kept walking around the hostages. His beast-like features made it seem like he was an animal prowling or guarding food. His eyes glanced over to James grinning at him. He didn't respond to the man's words and even if he had wanted to respond he would just be grunting like an animal. Instead he turned his back from the other and looked out one of the many bank's windows. He could see the flashing red and blue lights though they weren't as bright as they would be in the dark. The sirens had annoyed his ears. His ears perked up. Turning around, quickly, he flashed his teeth and growled at the civilian who tried to get up. The woman coward and sat down on the floor again. Riley resumed his task and, again, prowled around some of the hostages. He anticipated that, anytime soon, the superheroes would show up.

A green phone buzzed for a few seconds before lighting up with a generic envelope symbol. Simply put, it meant that there was a text message and given that it'd come from Sang-hyeok's burner phone there were only three possibilities: Connor, his dealer, or James. He wasn't into the whole superhero versus supervillain thing the same way that everyone else in Violet City appeared to be but even he knew better than to let the two lives spill together. His hand slid from the comfort of his sheets to the ugly device and punched in the pin code before his eyebrows visibly furrowed.

Reapers - Scorch

Of course it had to be those assholes from Reapers or Fifth Column or whatever the hell they wanted to call themselves this week. Of course they had to wreak havoc a mere six hours after he'd finally fallen asleep. They couldn't have waited until evening or night time as per Sang-hyeok's alias. No they needed to interrupt his routine at the most optimal of opportunities. It was like one of them knew his daily schedule or something.

Omw Sang-hyeok texted back before rolling out of his bed.

He had one copy of his psuedo-supersuit in his apartment so he decided instead of something that could blend in with the crowd while still being flexible. Fingerless gloves, cleats, and a mask were all obvious choices but when it came down to the shirt and pants he had...a tougher decision. Would he attempt maximum coverage in case of Hellfire's burns or give himself more flexibility and poison exposure? Outside of his fingers and fangs, he had no reliable way of delivering his poison. He didn't like the idea of milking his poison to make bombs and he wouldn't touch any of the villains with a ten foot pole, well not unless it was to beat their faces in.

Eh if I just dodge everything it shouldn't be a problem, he shrugged as he grabbed a performance jersey and a pair of jeans.

After an Uber ride and short walk, he caught up with Rebecca, Eris, and Connor who were debating how to secure the hostage while still taking down the others. Eris offered to crawl through the vents and it seemed like a fair idea...save the fact that any of the villains could probably shred her if they caught wind of what was happening.

"If we do that someone's gonna need to draw attention from Eris and well," he gestured toward the bank, "whatever is guarding the rest of the hostages."

It wasn't long before the others turned up. First, the arrival of Gizmo - the twin boys that were the only other people she knew that were even relatively close to her age - was very obvious. They practically came arguing, and Eris clasped her hands to her ears again, muttering "Shut up, shut up, shut up." She knew that they couldn't hear her, they were too busy bickering to hear Eris, so even Rebecca and Connor couldn't hear her. Finally, someone stopped them, and Eris took her hands off her ears.

"Focus, and try blocking them out," Connor told her gently, and Eris did her best to not scowl. She was trying, of course she was, but she was having a mental overload. She imagined closing all the links to everyone around her, but it just made the voices quieter, as if there was a dull buzzing in the back of her skull. It was better, at least. Eris sighed, exhausted already. Not only had she pushed herself already, but holding certain links open while others was closed was a lot of work, and it was giving her a headache. She rubbed her temples, trying to concentrate.

Then Eric turned up, before inputting that Eris would need a distraction to get it. She rolled her eyes. She hated to admit it, but it was true. She would need a way in, although she did have a few tricks up her sleeve to distract them herself.

After Connor gave the all clear, and she had fist bumped him for good measure, Eris headed over to Rebecca, before holding onto her arm again. She joked about flying, but Eris wasn't really listening. She was trying to push the screaming out of her head again. She nodded slightly, staring forwards towards the bank, trying to see inside. She could see a huge, cat-like creature, and red globules whizzing around inside. A few seconds later and the screaming started up. "Someone went down." She muttered absently, chewing her nails and looking forward still. Finally, Eris returned to her senses and turned to Rebecca with a smile. She touched her forehead and the sinking and twisting feeling in her stomach finally came to life, before Rebecca took her hand. She squeezed it affectionately, as she knew it was for comfort. Eris took a deep breath and kicked off the ground, in a sort of jumping motion, except she rose much higher into the air, as the gravity was shifted. Eris' ears popped painfully, and she winced slightly. It was nothing compared to the headache she was getting.

Eventually, Rebecca had directed them to the rooftop, and Eris let out a huge breath when she touched down and felt Earth's gravity regain it's grip on her body. Her ears popped once again, and the intense pulling feeling made her legs feel weak. She stumbled forwards slightly, but Rebecca was there, which made Eris immediately straighten up and try to regain her balance. After a few seconds, Rebecca waved goodbye and jumped off. Eris wasn't worried. She could hear her fear as she fell safely.

Eris examined her surroundings until she saw the opening of the vent. Hurrying over, she tugged at it, before becoming disappointed to find that it was screwed on tight. Frowning slightly, she concentrated for a few seconds, before the bolts flew off and the vent fell towards her with a slight clatter. Smiling to herself, Eris eased herself in and began crawling.

The maze of silver stretched out in front of her, but even from inside the vents she could hear the growling of the cat-creature. She followed it, before hearing whispering and an intense heat. She decided to pass by just as her ears started ringing with a stupidly high pitched tone. Ignoring it, she continued on. John was probably right below her, and she didn't want to encounter him right now. She had a job to do.

She kept crawling until she came to a grate in the vent. It was obviously in the ceiling of the hostage room, as she could see the armour plating on the cat creature, and the top of the blond boy's head. A few of the hostages caught her eye, but Eris gave them a quick gesture to shut them up. They ignored her after that.

Eris then had an idea. The others weren't in there yet, but Eris had no doubt that they were coming. So, she shouted. Mentally, of course. "Oi! Suckers! Over here!" She began with, stifling her giggles with a hand. Then, after a moment of recklessness passed in her mind, she smashed the glass away from the civilians and towards the villains, before flicking them with the little bits of glass. Finally, she flicked the alarm switch with a quick mental motion, before crawling towards the bottom end of the vents to ground level. Now, she'd have to wait, and hope that what she'd done was enough to confuse them before the main guns came barrelling in.

Alex listened, and watched, and protested having his mouth covered, but none of that was more annoying then when Eris and Rebecca left. Without him. After Connor told them both to go in. He could hear Max snickering in the background. So, Alex climbed up a building, and used his grappling hook to get over there. He was still ticked off they left him there.

Meanwhile, Max was examining the area while keeping the sonic rifle aimed. "Okay you two, listen up. I am not entirely sure, but parts of this bank don't match the original blueprints. I am sure it will be fine though. Eris, Alex, whatever you do, don't go left at the second intersection. It will litterally take you over the villians. And if you take the third right....well, you wind up in the garbage".

"Okay, any other tips?" Alex asked.

"Uhhh.....well, its probably nothing....but one of the safety deposit boxes in that bank belonged to Bombardo, that crazy villain from twenty years ago that liked to make bombs that once it detected heavy vibrations started counting down till...well boom. Anyways, apparently no one bothered to open it....but, I am sure you will be fine!"

As Alex followed Eris in, he had serious doubts. Then, something came to him. The lights. The moment Eris broke the glass and and launched it at the villains, Alex shut down the lights so they wouldn't be able to see. Meanwhile, Max set the sonic rifle to its highest setting, enabled thermal vision, and shot at them with the sonic rifle, through a wall, while still able to see them thanks to thermal vision.

Max also tasked all the drones to prevent any of the villains from escaping through any of the exits. If they tried, the drones would be there to slow them down till they could arrive.

When Connor gave the signal, Eric turned toward the fire manipulator, rolling his eyes behind his mask.

"I'm a vigilante not a savage."

Besides I'm not the one who sets things on fire for a power.

He pulled his hood over and gestured for Gizmo (rather Alex in Gizmo's suit) to go forward. Though young, the twins managed to figure out a way to be physically on par with any of the other supers that inhabited Violet City. It was admirable, even if Sang-hyeok never particularly related to him. He never had much affection for engineering or robotics and the closest he ever got to figuring out computers worked was a summer IT job when he was a teenager. Not terrible for a sophomore, but nothing exciting considering that most of his advice came out to "have you tried turning it on and off again?". These guys though? They were actually putting their brains to use in saving the city and one day they might grow into something more than twin brats.

For now he had a nice, metal shield controlled by a prepubescent...or so he thought until Alex departed with Rebecca and Eris.

"Guess I'll be a one man show today" he shrugged as he stretched his fingers, "and I'll be damned if anyone shows me up."

He wasn't good at these sorts things: strategies, tactics, macro play (as Starcraft II players called it) so he was probably pulling most of it out of his ass; however, he was a performer. He knew how to get people's attention and keep it, even if it meant playing the fool.

Without a word he sprinted up the steps and slammed the door open (rather easy considering that they were wooden), coming face to face with concerned citizens, some collapsed (hopefully not dead) guards, and well...not very much light. His night vision made it easy to spot everyone (any prowling villains included) but he was still cautious enough to keep his back against the wall.

"Sorry I'm late everyone. These nutjobs are getting more and more common these days."

Connor watched Rebecca and Eris go up, and then Rebecca return alone. It was an impressive feat by Rebecca. "Connor, let's go." She said as she returned to the ground. Connor nodded leading them away from the entrance of the bank and towards where the explosion came from. Poking his head around trying to do some subtle surveillance, he saw that it was like Max had said. Dominus had used some form of explosion to crack open the wall joining the bank to the place next door that was currently being renovated.

He turned to Rebecca suddenly grinning at himself, unable to hold in his thought. "Hey, Bec, after this want to go to this hole-in-the-wall bar I heard of?" He asked whispering, whilst grinning at his own bad joke. No matter the situation, he just couldn't help himself.

Connor poked his head around the corner again and noted four people standing around the explosions sight. He recognised them immediately at Dominus' guys. Connor looked over to Rebecca, much more serious this time, "I'll take the two on the left, you go for the two on the right." He said pointing to the men guarding the hole in the wall. He was confident him and Rebecca could take them, though the issue would be hopefully getting the two of them before they could get any word out.

Connor ran out of his hiding place, throwing a few balls of fire towards the group hoping to throw them off balance before he focused on his two guys, a tall red head man and a stocky brunette woman. Both of whom had managed to avoid his previous fireballs. Though the brunette had landed on the ground when she dived away. Connor made a circle of fire around the redhead, capturing him for the time being as he turned to the brunette. Connor ran over to her, putting a knee in her back to stop her getting up off the ground. When the woman struggled however Connor knocked her hard over the head, successfully knocking her unconscious.

Though when Connor got back up he felt the wind get knocked out of him. He looked across in surprise to find the redhead had gotten out of his ring of flames and had just kicked him in the gut. Connor immediately switched, his anger at being taken by surprise getting the best of him as he encapsulated the redhead in flames. He held the man in flames until he heard him scream which brought him out of his anger. He immediately released the redhead who fell to the ground. Connor hadn't meant to hurt the guy that much, but he didn't feel much guilt about it, the guy was lightly singed, he'd be fine.

Then Connor turned to Rebecca. "So, I suppose they know we're here," he said nodding to the crack in the wall. Whoever was on the other side had definitely heard that scream. He hoped it was Dominus and Hellfire, he wanted to take them head on.

Okay. Darkness and distraction. Those were valid tactics even if they pissed James off. He would rather take on an opponent of five out in the open rather than fumble around in the dark. He frowned slightly. That girl sounded familiar, but before he could think on it, he was forced to conjure a shield of bloody goo to block the shards of glass sent his way.

"Pfft... I'm not going to fall to amateur tricks," he boasted. Of course, that was when he heard a sonic boom and he felt himself fly back into a wall. He groaned before standing up, stretching a little as his healing factor allowed himself to adjust.

"Now, that wasn't nice," he growled, sending a bunch of blood bullets in the direction the sonic boom came from before another person joined the fray. It sounded like Nightcrawler. He grinned.

"Last I checked, you were drunk off your ass, Nighty," he said, sending a few more bullets his way. He turned to his partner, suddenly remembering he wasn't alone.

"Hey, Freak, do you mind being my eyes or nose or whatever? I'm firing blind here. It's kind of naughty, shutting off the lights. It's as though these so-called heroes don't care if I accidentally harm someone," he said, raising his voice at the last statement.

Eris flinched as one of the twins came to life in her ear. That was right. She had placed that comms device in her ear, opening herself up to even more noise. She shook her head and continued crawling, avoiding the garbage and toppling out from the vents on top of cat-boy and blood-dude. From there, she continued to crawl until there was a slight drop; she eased herself off of the edge and thudded lightly onto the metal below her feet. She turned to look behind her at the other twin who had followed her in - she was surprised that he fit in the vents with the huge suit on, and how he was doing so relatively quietly - or at least, how the villains below them didn't hear him clomping around. Sighing, Eris shook her head, and continued on. Back on her hands and knees, she crawled towards the vent on ground level.

At the bottom, she was stopped by a grate. Carefully using her powers, she unscrewed the vent and it clattered on the ground. In the dark, Eris stumbled forwards, sticking by the walls and trying to get herself towards some of the hostages. She could 'feel' their presence through her telekinesis. She shuffled towards the doors, with a quick push, hoping she wasn't being too loud. She could hear Sang-Hyeok making his entrance, and Blood-boy making a quick taunt back. Apparently Blood-boy knew Eric, but Eris wasn't going to question it. She patted the leg of a hostage and gestured to the door with a quick mental picture, before following it up with the vent. Unfortunately, because of the amplification effect, it probably projected to everyone in the room quite loudly - cat-boy and blood-dude included.

Eris had to stifle a whine as she heard a dripping noise on the floor. Dismayed, she touched her hand to her nose to find it was bleeding. Saying a naughty word she'd heard Rebecca say several times before, Eris pinched her nose to try and stem the flow of blood and hoped that Blood-dude hadn't realized she was bleeding, or control her blood.

"My nose is bleeding." She sent to Rebecca mentally, straining against the effort. It most likely projected to others, but Eris tried to ignore that fact. She reigned in her panic and sat next to the wall, taking a few breaths in the dark, before tapping a few of the hostages on the leg and sending more mental pictures of the vents and how to get there. At least that way, they wouldn't be blocked by the cat-creature-person. Eris could detect his very human-like thoughts, giving away it wasn't some Dire-tiger or something. Frowning to herself, she crawled back towards the vents, ignoring the sounds of her partners doing what sounded like fighting. Hurrying along, she hoped nothing would stop her.
