a character in “Sweetwood Hospital for the Mentally Unstable”, as played by jakomocha

Description

James Talon
Nickname: Jimmy, never call him James
Age: 19
Eyes: Crystal Blue
Hair: Blonde and spiked up
Body: Jimmy's body is not particularly buff, but it isn't weak either. Jimmy is 5 foot 9 inches high and he weighs 140 pounds. His neck and legs are a little dilapidated because of bending twitches he had which lasted until he was able to overcome them in his first year at Sweetwood Hospital.
Disorder:Selective Mutism (part of Social Anxiety Disorder)
Personality: Jimmy was once a cheerful, bubbly, and intelligent young boy. Then one day for reasons even he can't explain, he decided to be silent. He never really liked big crowds much and was always shy, but he still spoke a lot to the ones he was comfortable with. After this he never spoke, not even to himself in seclusion. The only place he expressed his words and inner thoughts was in his secret diary or occasionally by writing notes on paper to people. The only time you'll ever hear his voice is in grunts when he is injured. In his heart, however, Jimmy always wants to speak out and hopes that one day he will be able to again. Jimmy likes to pretend in his head that he is responding to people when they speak to him, imagining what he would say next. The doctors called this an unhealthy habit. Despite not speaking much, Jimmy is a very touchy and emotional person and he also loves to write and read. Most of the time his head can be found in a book, something which his doctors found unhealthy because he rarely went outside or did activities. Jimmy throughout the years has also found unconventional ways to contact others like by eye contact or hand motions. Jimmy also tries keep himself detached from others in fear of losing a relationship with them after his relationship with his parents deteriorated.

Background: Jimmy grew up in a cheerful environment. He was his parents prized possession, being their only child. He always made them proud. When Jimmy stopped talking, his parents were shocked and confused. They tried bribe him, punish him, send him to therapists, and multiple other things but nothing worked. In those years, Jimmy grew apart from his family because they couldn't understand him and Jimmy felt like they were blaming him for the issue. Jimmy also grew away from his friends, who started bullying him and mocking him. When his parents announced they were sending him to Sweetwood, he reacted with silence as he always had. But in his heart, this moment made him feel like he had failed his parents and they were finally giving him up. In his first year at Sweetwood, his parents visits gradually decreased until they occurred only once every three or four months at best. However, he finally found someone he was comfortable with and not afraid of failing, and she never made him feel uncomfortable about his disorder. Whenever Cecil, the name of the girl, is around he feels butterflies in his stomach but he doesn't know how to explain this to her. On top of that, the slightest touch sends her paranoid.

James entered the hospital he had incredibly missed for the past three weeks. Who would've thought that I would rather be at a mental asylum then at home? he thought to himself. Jimmy just arrived back to the Sweetwood Hospital from a mandatory "vacation" at his parents house. Jimmy kept to himself the whole time, staying silent like he always has. Still, it was an extremely uncomfortable silence. Jimmy spent most of his time in his room while his parents conversed over pointless things, obviously confused on what to do with their helpless child.

Jimmy opened the large doors and entered a large, beautiful reception room. He walked up to the receptionist, her name tag brightly displayed on her left shoulder, and nodded at her. She looked down, and then asked, "Name?" Jimmy looked at her, before she said, "Oh right, James Talon. Sorry I forgot. Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your vacation." Don't call me James, it's Jimmy. Jimmy had an unusual and quite unhealthy habit of replying to others in his head.

Jimmy settled his stuff down in his room, carelessly throwing everything around his room but his journal which he hid under his bed. Then he headed out to see the person he missed the most. He passed by Penelope, a girl with whom he was acquainted, and waved at her but avoided eye contact in fear of getting noticed. Nearby Penelope was the room he was looking for. Jimmy neatened his clothes, and then knocked at Cecil's door, hoping she was in her room because otherwise he would have to look for her.

Cecil woke up with a jump and almost screamed but she contained it before any of the medics hear. If they did they would have to come in and it involves physical contact. "Just a dream..." She murmured before rolling her eyes at her words. 'More like nightmare. A very bad nightmare.' She thought to herself before getting up and going to the bathroom. She shuddered at her reflection. She looked like a nightmare. She turned on the warm water on the sink and splashed her face waking herself up and getting the sweat off her face. Her puffy red eyes didn't do her justice either. She ran her fingers through her hair in a attempt to get all the knots and angles out. She quickly put her hair in a french braid and left the bathroom.

She turned her head sharply at the door when she the heard the soft knock. She started to panic a little but calmed herself down.'Maybe it's Jimmy, he did say he'll stop by when he came back.' She walked over to the door and pressed her ear to it. You could hear his soft breathing. She blushed a little on how she must have looked like a stalker, with her ear pressed to the door like that. She took a breath and opened the door. "Hi Jimmy."

"We're here!" Molly's father turned around in the driver's seat to face her. He smiled encouragingly. "Alright, kiddo, time to get out." Molly loved her father more than anything at that moment. Ever since she had received her diagnosis, her mother and brother had treated her like a freak. But her father had just accepted it. It wasn't like she had changed, or anything. She had always been bipolar. Just now it was written down on a piece of paper somewhere in a doctor's office. She smiled nervously and opened the car door, all the while gazing at her father lovingly. She got out, and looked at the hospital. It didn't really look like a hospital, and that comforted her. It looked more like a mansion than anything medical. She sighed. But it was still a mental hospital. This stay would go down on her permanent record, branding her as an "unstable person," making it difficult for her to get jobs in the future, when she got out of here. If she got out of here.
Her father was out of the car now, too. He took her by the shoulders and led her gently up the shrubbery-lined path to the hospital doors. Then they both stopped. They knew it was time to say goodbye. Molly turned around to face her father, and he knelt down in front of her. He was very tall, but he knelt down to say goodbye. Molly held back tears. She hugged her father tightly, a tear sliding down her face in spite of herself. "I love you." she whispered. "So much."
He patted her on the back, chuckling fondly. "Now be careful, or they'll diagnose you with an Electra Complex." She laughed through her tears. But then her father became serious. He held her apart from him, looking into her hazel eyes. "I'll visit you, okay? We all will." Molly nodded, and he smiled. Then her father looked over her shoulder at something. He smiled pleasantly. "Hello." he said to whoever it was, standing up.
Molly turned around to see a nurse smiling condescendingly at her and her father. Her defenses went up immediately. This woman would not treat her like just any looney. She was Molly Renson, not just some crazy person. "Hello." the nurse said in a smiley voice. "I'm Nurse York. You must be the Rensons. Mr. Renson, you'll just need to come in and sign some paper work, and then Molly will be ready to go.

*******************************************************************

After the paper work was all signed, Molly said her goodbyes again, and her father left. The nurse took her to her room and gave her her uniform. Molly put it on and then walked out of her room, looking at the door and memorizing her room number. This place was strange, and she didn't like it. The clothes were uncomfortable. She saw a boy talking to another patient through a doorway. She couldn't see who he was talking to, though. She wiped the tears off her face and walked over. "Hi." she said quietly. "I'm Molly. Who are you?" She felt so ashamed to be in here, to be branded a looney. It was like they thought that she couldn't handle herself or something. She just looked at the floor, waiting for a response.

Cecil smiled and said, "Hi Jimmy." Most "reunions" would be more cheerful, involving a hug or something of the like, but not with Cecil. The slightest touch could send her paranoid and off the walls. However Jimmy often felt like they completed each other. They both hated big crowds and Cecil didn't like people who talked much and Jimmy didn't talk at all. He waved back at Cecil, careful to keep his distance so he wouldn't accidentally touch her as he once had before. He would never forget that moment; it was the first time they met. Jimmy had offered his out hand to her, and she had a mental breakdown and nearly avoided him for a month until he was able to convince her to hang out with him. That was when their friendship started to blossom. Hey Cecil, I've really missed you, Jimmy said to Cecil in his head.

Suddenly, a girl who he had never seen before with extremely long brown hair walked in Jimmy's direction. Is she coming to me? Jimmy wondered. She stopped, wiped a tear away and then said, "Hi. I'm Molly. Who are you?" Jimmy jumped up, surprised and a little scared of the noise. He avoided Molly's eye contact and just waved in her direction while trying to smile. She won't think I'm weird. We are at a mental asylum after all, James thought to himself to try stay comforted. Cecil would probably end up doing the explaining of who he was, as she almost always had. James felt a little guilty about this, as he hated to use her, but there was no other way for anyone to meet him.

Cecil smiled at Jimmy and she could tell just by looking at him that he wanted to see her as much as she wanted to see him. She liked that he respected her distance terms not wanting to be touched or anything. It meant that he was willing to do anything for her to be friends. She remember the first time they met and it didn't go so well. Thinking back she looked ridiculous. She seemed foolish at the time. But ever since Jimmy left she had been trying her hardest not to react badly at physical contact. So far she only hurt one medic since he left.

Cecil jumped when a girl appeared before her and Jimmy. She was just about to shut the door but she stopped herself from doing so. It would have been disrespectful, in her case. Cecil looked at Jimmy who just waved and at her and avoided all eye contact. She looked back over to the girl who said her name was 'Molly' She thought. Being polite she let out the best smile she could muster. "Hi Molly I'm Cecil." She said and before she could offer a hand shake or some sort like that she quickly introduced Jimmy who was probably expecting her to do so. It was fine with her, she always did it for him. "This is James, but call him Jimmy." She found that out when they met after their first accident. He wrote that he wanted to be called Jimmy. She didn't argue of course. It wasn't her name anyways.

The boy with the spiky blonde hair jumped and waved at her while giving her a weird, strained smile. Molly summoned up all of her acting ability and changed upon the instant. She had always been a good actress. Her shoulders straightened up instead of the shameful slouch that she had been doing, her eyes got wider, her smile widened into a manic grin, and her hands went casually into her pockets. She was about to introduce herself in a more lively manner, but then the girl with brown hair spoke up.
'Hi, Molly, I'm Cecil.' she said, and then quickly introduced the silent boy. 'This is James, but call him Jimmy.'
"Hi, Cecil, Jimmy." she said with a casual, conversational tone, so different from how she was before. She wasn't in one of her many mood swings: she was just acting. She hated doing it, but she felt it necessary sometimes. "Well," she said, looking around with a now sardonic smile. "I just love it here, don't you?" Anger flashed in her smiling eyes. Then she seemed to melt, her shoulders slumping again, her eyes falling back to the floor. Her smile vanished without a trace. "I'm sorry, you guys." she whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "Is it okay if I cry right now?" Her hair fell into her face, obscuring it from their vision, as if she were hiding behind it. Molly hated how she just cried randomly. She wasn't really that upset about anything, she just... had to cry. It was all part of being bipolar, she guessed. What would it be like to not have to cry all the time? To be normal? She didn't know, and she never would. She let the tears fall unchecked to the floor like little raindrops, wishing to God that she could just talk to these people like a normal person. She could hear her mother's voice: 'Why does it always have to be about you, Molly? Can't you just think about someone else for once? Stop crying. STOP CRYING NOW!' "I'm sorry." she whispered to herself. "But I can't."
