Jewel Liadon

"Life would be so much easier without all this fighting...wouldn't it?"

0 · 1,505 views · located in Varnaya

a character in “Take Back the World”, as played by Crystal Flamedance

Description

Image

Jewel is an elf with green hair with light golden eyes, with pale skin. Her hair ends just past her waist, and is fairly straight. At 6', she stands a little shorter than some of the other elves. She is also fairly slim, and prefers to wear pants along with a long sleeved shirt, both a little tight, to allow for easier movement. Both are also a darker color, as she prefers to wander at night. She about 1100 years old, fairly young for an elf.

Jewel is peaceful, like the rest of her race. She likes to take walks at night, when most others are asleep and everything is much quieter. She doesn't often talk much to strangers, though that can often depend on the situation. Sometimes it just can't be helped, after all. She is not typically easy to scare off, and likes a good adventure. Confrontation, however, she avoids actively. She doesn't fight too well, and while she's not fond of the humans, she doesn't think it's overly necessary. There are plenty of other elves that can fight, and that really isn't even her strong suit, anyway.

She likes music...listening to it, anyway. She can play the flute, but is easily embarrassed, and doesn't think she'd very good at it. She loves a good adventure, and loves to scout out the humans. Granted, her race is peaceful, so she only keeps an eye out for armies marching on her home, but it allows her to roam a little. She also prefers being out in nature than being confined in buildings. Caves are okay, but buildings and houses are not. She also likes watching and playing with animals.

She can't stand absolute silence. Even at night, she needs to hear something; an owl, a breeze, something. There has to be at least a little noise for her to be happy. She also has a great fear of being burned. As it is, even camp fires bother her, though she knows they're necessary for cooking, keeping warm, and light. She tried to keep her distance when she can. She doesn't like humans, like most of her race, despite the little curiosity she has towards them. She believes them to be violent and obnoxious. The one thing she absolutely hates, though, more than silence or fire or humans, is violence. No, humand and elves don't get along and she herself doesn't like humans, but wouldn't everything be easier if they just lived separately, in peace?

Jewel doesn't typically carry much, unless she's travelling. And even then, everything fits in a small bag. Usually, it's only necessary supplies; a little food, flint and tinder, and, usually, a map. She keeps a small knife on her at all times, though she doesn't use it often. She's much better at scouting than anything else, and she likes it that way. She thought it was much easier than learning to use a weapon properly.

Jewel grew up near the edge of the forest, but was continuously warned by her parents to never get too close to the edge, and especially not to go near the humans. She watched them, though, curious enough to try to figure out what they were up to. She learned later on, as she grew up, that the humans really were no good. She had heard about the dragons, too, but wasn't sure whether or not it was truth. After all, she had never seen them for herself. Nearly everything she knows, she learned from her parents.

Generally, her life was fairly simple, keeping to the forest and avoiding the humans. She has learned everything she needed to in order to survive in the forest; to hide from predators, forage for food, and find shelter for nights away from home. She was trained to be a survivalist more than anything, and uses that often when she goes out to scout human civilizations. She has a younger brother, and still takes advice from her parents, but otherwise she now prefers to live away from them. Mostly, she is either scouting what is believed to be a human army, or wandering through the forest, taking in the sites, or looking for a place to make camp.

So begins...

Rhitarion smiled at Jewel. "Don't worry..you'll get to know everyone. Or..everyone that you want to get to know." He laughed lightly at this. "I admit, though, there is not too awfully much to see in camp but we can explore beyond once my back is fully healed. Karliah would have my head if I stepped foot out of the camp perimeters. If you ever get lost..you can always ask a guard..or anyone else if for some reason you are alone. They can all be quite friendly once they get over the shock of seeing a Elf in the camp." The Dragon turned his gaze to Jewel. "And yes, they are nice...unless you get on their bad side. Don't worry, though..it takes quite a bit to make a Dragon angry."

The Dragon then, slowly, began leading the way down the steps of the hold. Once they were on the grass, Rhitarion paused for a moment, allowing a pair of guards to pass. They too, however, paused and bowed deeply to Rhitarion and then to Jewel. Rhitarion merely nodded and then the pair was gone. He then began walking in the opposite direction that the guards had been heading. Rhitarion noticed that there were many pairs of guards about..more so than he remembered there being the last time he'd been there. He would have to ask Caenor later about it.

As they walked, Rhitarion spoke again. "The larger tents are sort of..well..they don't have a common name. We call them Scheans. That is where food and other items are sold. Then, the smaller tents are where each family of Dragon lives. On the outskirts of camp, there is some open field where festivals or celebrations are held. Actually.." he paused, looking lost in thought. "I think that there is a festival coming up..if I remember correctly. Now, would you like to go to the Scheans..to look at them?" Rhitarion looked to Jewel once again. He wanted to allow her the chance to decide what they were doing. He had, after all, been the one to choose to come to the base of the Mountain.

"that's fine; we can just explore the camp for now." Jewel smiled. There would be plenty of time to explore outside the camp. She didn't want him to push himself too much, either; his back still needed to heal. As for asking for directions, she knew the others would probably help her out if she got lost, as long as she asked. There were a lot of them, though. She didn't like that too much. It was one thing to talk to one individual; trying to talk to more than one, unless she knew them, was a little harder. She almost wanted to ask what it would take to get on their bad side, so she knew to avoid it, but decided not to. She wasn't going to go pushing their buttons, and she didn't think there was too much of a chance of making them upset with her, anyway. There probably wasn't too much to worry about.

She followed Rhitarion as he started to walk, pausing when he did to allow the guards to pass. She glanced at the curiously. She hadn't thought there was too much of a need for so many guards. Humans and elves avoided this place, and she had thought most of the dragons got along fairly well. At least, they seemed to. And the only one she had seen that was really upset was Tithender, but he was already losing his mind, if she was understanding things correctly. At the very least, he wanted revenge, and the throne.

She paid close attention, though, when Rhitarion started talking again, explaining the tents around them. She made note of which tents were which; she wanted to know, mostly out of curiosity about the dragons. She glanced at Rhitarion again, when he mentioned a festival. Were they going to be there for the next festival? That should prove to be very interesting, maybe exciting, too. She was very much interested in seeing the festival. She nodded.

"Yes; I'd like to see the Scheans." She wanted to see everything, really. but she had to take everything in one at a time. If she rushed, she might miss something, after all. Rhitarion knew the area best, anyway; it was better to follow him than wander around on her own.

The Dragon slowly took his time, walking slowly. As they walked through the camp, they began passing more and more Dragons. They were giving Rhitarion and Jewel quite a bit of space..most likely unsure why the female was there. The Prince paid no attention to the other Dragons. They had all always been rather fickle about things. When they arrived at the first Schean, Rhitarion led the way inside. Although it was later on in the day, there were still many Dragons inside the Schean trying to get the things that they needed. The sight was..as close to heartwarming as it could be knowing that his kind were not in Ialeos. He had always been glad that they had, for the most part, kept things the way they had always been.

All of the vendors were set up and in this particular Shcean, most of the Dragons were selling clothing, jewelry, and toys. All in all, everyone there seemed to be in a rather good mood. Rhitarion opted to simply follow Jewel now. This was all stuff that he'd seen before and he really didn't need anything at the moment. He was..feeling a bit on the uncomfortable side merely because many of the Dragons were eyeing him again. The females..that is. He was..actually surprised that none of them had tried talking with him yet. Usually it started as soon as he arrived somewhere. He couldn't stand it. He wasn't exactly sure why they thought swarming him would make him want to even get to know them.

A voice brought Rhitarion out of his thoughts. He turned his gaze to the source. A vendor was speaking with..no..that wasn't right..he was speaking at Jewel. Most likely trying to convince her to buy something. Seemed that the Dragon actually hadn't realized who was walking with the Elf. After a moment more of the annoying Dragon, Rhitarion spoke. "That is enough, Aget." The Dragon suddenly realized that the Prince was there as well. He began quickly apologizing to Jewel and then Rhitarion. The Prince smiled. As he led the way from Aget's table, Rhitarion spoke. "You will have to forgive Aget. It has been a long time since he's dealt with an outsider."

Jewel glanced around. They seemed to be giving the pair space. That wasn't because of Rhitarion...was it? They didn't avoid him and give him so much space because he was royalty among the dragons? Or was it because she was an elf, and didn't necessarily belong there? She looked around the Schean as Rhitarion led her into one, curious. It seemed like a marketplace, where there were a lot of people, some selling, most looking around, some buying...it wasn't too different. The only real difference was there was a tent covering them, instead of being outside and having a lean to or stall to protect their goods. Once they were inside, Rhitarion let Jewel look aorund, following her instead.

She looked around curiously, examining the goods they had for sale. It wasn't as though she was really going to buy anything at that point, but she was curious to see if anything was different from what the elves typically sold. The styles, she found, were a little different, but otherwise. they were pretty much the same. She paused, though, hearing a voice that she thought had been directed at her. She looked up, confused. None of the others had really bothered trying to talk to her. She hesitated, but then Rhitarion stepped in. She gave a little smile, following him away from the table.

"Oh, it wasn't really a problem...at least, I don't think. I wasn't expecting it. The others seem to be keeping a distance..." She shrugged. Maybe it didn't matter. She hadn't been there before, and hardly knew anyone else there. Perhaps they just weren't used to elves, like she had thought before. That made a little more sense, in her mind, anyway. In any case, she hadn't paid too much attention to the other dragons before; they'd approach her when they were ready, or she'd approach them if she needed anything. No need to rush, or anything. Now, though, there seemed to be so many of them watching Rhitarion. Why, she couldn't decide.

"...It's probably been a while since any of them dealt with outsiders, I would guess..." she mused, glancing around.

He smiled gently at Jewel. "Enjoy it while it lasts." he said, still following Jewel. "They are only keeping distance because they are unused to seeing one of your kind. These Dragons can not venture into the cities of the world. It has been a very long time since they've seen Elves or Humans. I've no doubt that once they become used to your presence, they will not leave you alone." He fell silent, simply content to follow and listen to his friend. "You know," he said at length, "I'm actually surprised that Belenus isn't causing more of a stir." He laughed lightly, a smile on his face. As they continued walking, a small child ran into Rhitarion. He stopped moving and looked down at the child. It was one of the few younger children that lived in the camp. The little girl was rather short, even for a child. She had medium length aqua colored hair that her mother had up in pigtails. Her red eyes stared up at Rhitarion, almost as if she was seeing him for the first time. The girl was silent, her bright eyes still looking at the taller Dragon.

Rhitarion crouched down so that he was at the same height as the child. By now, the little girl was beginning to cry. "Now now little one. Dry your tears. No harm has been done." The little girl was now trying to talk through her tears. "B..but I r..ran into you." Rhitarion's smile never left his face. "I am unhurt. As are you, from what I can tell." The little girl's tears were slowly receding. "B..but you are the king. Mamey(maw-mei) says that we are not allowed to bother you." she said. Rhitarion quickly silenced the child. "I am not bothered at all. So you've nothing to worry about. Now, what is your name..and where is your Mamey?" The little girl's face was slowly brightening. "I am Yuin and Mamey was over there a moment ago." Yuin was pointing off in the distance, back towards the back of the Schean. "Well then, we will just have to find her." the male Dragon said. Suddenly, though, Yuin's eyes fell on Jewel. "Who are you? You aren't like us." Rhitarion decided to allow Jewel to handle this. He felt as if it would do her some good.

After the two had conversed, Rhitarion stood and began leading the way back towards where Yuin had said her mother was. Yuin had realized that she rather liked Jewel and was currently holding the Elf's hand, smiling. When they reached the back of the tent, a Dragon was looking around frantically. "Mamey!" Yuin yelled, releasing Jewel's hand and running to the female. The female smiled, realizing that her child was perfectly fine. "Where have you been, Yuin? I was worried sick. And you've been bothering the king. You know better." The female moved Yuin behind her. "I am sorry, your majesty. Yuin was no trouble to you..or your companion." That was when Rhitarion noticed a slight change in the female. If he had to guess, she was not with Yuin's father for some reason or another. "No, she was no trouble at all." he replied at last. The female smiled flirtatiously at Rhitarion and he pretended not to notice. "I am Meerinia" the woman said to Jewel. "Your majesty, perhaps if you are not busy you would like to join me tomorrow for a stroll? It has been far too long since we last saw each other." The male Dragon eyed her closely.

Rhitarion had known Meerinia somewhat though they had never been close. She had been mated to a Dragon that had joined the guard. He was unsure what had happened to the male. Rhitarion did not want to spend any time with the female that was standing before them. He wanted to spend time with Calenor, Karliah..and even Jewel...mostly Jewel. "I'm afraid that I am am already committed to showing Jewel around." he said, leaving it at that. The female Dragon immediately turned her gaze to the Elf. She was obviously not happy with the Prince's answer. Rhitarion wanted out of the situation..and quickly.

"Well, we need to be going. You two have a good day." and with that, Rhitarion was quickly leading Jewel out of the Schean. Once they were outside, Rhitarion paused. "I am sorry about Meerinia." he said, eyeing Jewel. He did not say how much he hated the attention that he normally got. That was part of the reason that he enjoyed being with Jewel. With her, he felt normal. He debated about telling Jewel why he was sorry about Meerinia but decided not to unless she asked.

Jewel figured that would be alright; none of them meant her any harm, anyway, so that was a good thing. She glanced at Belenus. Perhaps that was because they might have thought a bird following them from Ialeos was more likely than an elf finding her way into thei camp. Granted, she hadn't found her way there on her own; she wouldn't have found it if she hadn't been travelling with Rhitarion. Still, it must have been fairly unexpected. She doubted any of the other dragons had led a human or elf back to the camp.

She hesitated, though, as a little girl ran into Rhitarion. Rhitarion seemed to be handling it very well, and the child didn't seem to really even notice she was there. She still gave a little smile, though. When she was home, if she wasn't out scouting, she watched some of the children there as favors to friends of her parents. She almost missed taking care of the children; she hadn't really come across any travelling. This was the first child she had seen in a while. She blinked, surprised, when the young dragon Yuin finally noticed the elf standing there. She crouched down to answer the child.

"My name is Jewel. I'm an elf, not a dragon," she answered with a smile. She didn't mind answering the girl's question; she had probably never seen an elf before. After talking with Yuin, she stood back up, and the young dragon took her hand. That was fine, too; it only meant the child was fond of her. She followed Rhitarion, making sure not to let go of the girl's hand. She didn't need to get lost again.

It didn't take long to find the girl's mother. The girl released her hand to run to her mother. Her mother, however, hid the child behind herself to talk with Rhitarion. That seemed odd to her; she had always been taught that you either hold a child's hand, or made sure they were in your sight at all times. To put the child behind herself was strange. She apologized for the child, though there was no harm done. She even introduced herself to the elf. She seemed nice enough. She even invited him to a stroll; however, by the smile on her face, something told her she was thinking something a little more romantic. He turned her down, though, saing something about showing her around instead. Jewel wasn't sure what to make of the look the female dragon gave her after that. She wasn't used to seeing that sort of expression.

It sounded like the pair knew each other, at least a little, but Meerinia mentioned that it had been a while since they had seen each other. Had they been close, at some point? She doubted it; otherwise, he might have had more of a conversation with her. She did realize, though, that the dragon had believed she was in her way. She supposed that might have been true. She almost spoke up, to say it wasn't necessary, that a stroll wouldn't be too bad, and she could find her own way around, with the help of Belenus, but she didn't. She didn't really want to; she was rather enjoying his tour of the camp. She followed Rhitarion closely as he led her out of the Schean, and looked at him when he apologized about Meerinia. She thought about it for a moment.

"Sorry...about what?" She wasn't even entirely sure she understood the situation. It had been clear Meerinia was flirting with Rhitarion, but that he wasn't exactly interested. That, or it really was because he had said he would show her around the camp. In either case, though, he had turned her down. But that was no reason to give her that look...was it? Still, she couldn't even figure out why that had even bothered her in the first place. Not necessarily the look...but the invitation in general. She shook it off; it couldn't be too important, if she couldn't figure it out herself.

Rhitarion eyed Jewel from the corner of his eye. He wondered what he should tell her. He then opted for not giving a answer. "If you have to ask, then there is no point in me explaining." he said softly. He immediately took off walking, though at a slow pace, towards the other Schean. In all honesty..the Dragon wasn't completely sure why he'd apologized. He more or less felt compelled to do so. He didn't like not knowing why he'd done something. It didn't take long for them to reach the other tent. It was much more fuller than the last tent, this being the one that sold all sorts of foods and treats. Once again he followed Jewel, now feeling slightly bad about what he'd said to her a few moments before. He was being rather silent, he knew. Even Belenus seemed to be sticking right next to Jewel..most likely due to the fact that Rhitarion was becoming a bit moody.

As they slowly walked by the stands and tables that had all sorts of foods, Rhitarion saw something that caught his eye. "Jewel, come here." He then led the way over to the table that he was now eyeing. Once there, the seller merely bowed to the pair, eyes watching. "You have to try one of these. He paid the seller for two of the small desserts and then handed on to Jewel for her to try. He was smiling now, his mood seemingly much better than before. He waited for Jewel to try the dessert before speaking. "These are called Sers. It is rare that we have them. They are generally only fixed for special occasions." He eyed, waiting for her to speak to him. He wondered what she thought about them. Sers were one of Rhitarions favorite things in the entire world. They were normally only fixed right before a festival began and were normally sold until the day after all of the festivities.

He ate his dessert, smiling brightly now. "I am sorry for my earlier comment. It is just that I have to watch what I say when among the others. I will tell you later? Would that be all right?" he asked, eyeing his friend. He wanted to explain to her why he was so uncomfortable here. He would be surprised if Jewel hadn't noticed him yet. He would much rather be on the road. He wondered if his friend would want to continue looking in this Schean or perhaps what she would want to see next.

Jewel gave him a curious look, but followed as he started walking. Had she somehow offended him by not knowing? Was it so obvious she had overlooked it as nothing? She bit her lip as she walked. Belenus was much closer to her than Rhitarion; was he in a bad mood now? Because of her? She tried to brush it aside; she could let him calm down, and try to confront him about it later...maybe? She wasn't used to him being so quiet. Again, he let her lead the way through the Schean, so she could explore.

She looked over the foods they were selling in the tent, curious. A lot of them were very different from what she had seen before. She didn't recognize any of them from any elven marketplace. She looked at Rhitarion as he called her over. She followed him, curious. On the bright side, he seemed to be in a better mood; that was always a good thing. She eyed the treat, even more curious now. Only fixed for special ocassions? She hesitated before taking a little taste. She gave a little smile.

"They're really good!" She wasn't sure how well she'd like the dragon's food; she had wondered if it might be so different from elven food she'd have to take her time and get used to it. But that wasn't really the point. Rhitarion had said she had to try it. She assumed he liked them quite a bit. Maybe that had helped to put him in a better mood? Either way, she was glad he didn't seem to be mad at her. He seemed very happy after eating his dessert. Sers..she'd have to keep that in mind. She hesitated when he spoke to her again. She gave him a little smile in return. That was it; he couldn't speak freely even around his own people. That had to be irritating, too.

"I was worried for a moment that you might have been upset with me. But that's fine; I can wait. So...where should we go next? I don't know what else there would be to explore..." She could keep looking here...but she'd just be making herself hungry, and she wanted to keep looking around, not stop and eat. There was so much of the camp she hadn't really seen yet!

"Mad? At you? I'm afraid that I can not see myself being angry with you." Rhitarion said, smiling. "As to where we should go next..I was thinking that perhaps we could just walk around the camp. You will be able to see quite a bit that way and then perhaps we can stop at the field for a few minutes. There are several trees there that we can sit under for a few moments. By then it should be nearly time for dinner. Karliah will have our heads if we are late." He then led the way, taking his time as they walked. The path that the Dragon was taking would take them through almost the entire camp allowing Jewel to see most of the Dragons..or at least those that were not in their homes.

As they walked together, Rhitarion felt as if more and more Dragons were beginning to become more curious about Jewel. He was glad though hoped that the looks weren't getting to her. After a while..it would stop. Hopefully. "You know, for such a small being, Karliah can be quite frightening. I'm actually surprised that she didn't yell at me more than she did earlier. It is rare that I visit..even rarer that I visit my mother." His eyes flicked to Jewel momentarily before focusing back ahead of them. "I find that I do not care for how everyone acts when I am around. That is the majority of the reason that I prefer traveling the world rather than staying in one place."

He fell silent, intently listening to his friend. As they kept walking, Rhitarion thought of something that he was sure Jewel did not know. "The locations that each camp lives in is changed with every two seasons. So, instead of packing up and moving, they simply leave everything as it is. They only take with them what they need. It makes for traveling much easier. This group will be moving again towards the end of Spring. Calenor actually doesn't always move. That is why there are so many guards about. Though the chance of a Human or Elf coming across this camp is very slim, it is best to be on the safe side. So, tell me..I am not boring you too bad am I?" The Dragon Prince was smiling at Jewel. He was enjoying their time together and was glad that they got along so well. Rhitarion had never really spent much time with any save for his own kind. Now, however, he found himself spending more time with Jewel. He rather enjoyed it. He only hoped that she would not tire of his company.

"Sure; that sounds like fun." Jewel smiled. At least he hadn't been upset with her. That calmed her down a bit. And, anyway, they were going to rest for a bit. That worked well, too; she'd still see plenty of the dragons. She followed as he led he way through the camp, glancing around as she did. The dragons almost seemed..curious now. Well, if she was guessing correctly, anyway. But it was still very interesting. As was listening to Rhitarion. She thought about it for a minute.

"You know, the fact that Karliah can be frightening doesn't surprise me much, really. She made that fairly obvious herself earlier," she noted, remembering in the infirmary, when she intentionally jabbed at Rhitarion's injury. That much had been fairly clear. She'd just have to do her best to stay on the female dragon's good side. That wasn't what bothered her, really, though.

"...It would make sense, then, that you would travel to avoid them. ...Somehow, though, I don't think that solves the problem. I mean, it just means you have to deal with it again when you do pay a visit." She couldn't see why he would take so much effort to avoid his mother. Did they just not get along very well? But, even if that were the case, he would at least try to talk it over with her, right? Or maybe it was just something they didn't want to talk about...or one of the other didn't.

She did find the explanation of the camp interesting, though. That just meant it was nearly abandoned every spring. Except for Calenor, when he didn't move with them. Even with the guards around, though, it had to be at least a little lonely. Though not much worse than Rhitarion travelling by himself. Granted, Rhitarion was probably more likely to run into someone at random than Calenor was. Even so, being alone for so long couldn't be too much fun. She shook her head, giving Rhitarion a smile.

"Oh, no; I'm not bored. I'm finding this all to be very interesting, actually." She was having fun. Sure, Rhitarion was doing most of the talking, but she had no idea what she was doing here, among the dragons. She was so very out of place here. But at least she knew Rhitarion didn't mind.

Rhitarion thought about what Jewel had said a few moments earlier. Thinking about it, perhaps she was right. He should really visit more often..and maybe even extend his stays. He was just so set in his ways, now. He could not imagine not traveling. However, he knew that once they were allowed to return to Ialeos..his traveling would greatly decrease. He would be king and would have to watch over the beautiful city. Rhitarion thought..perhaps it would be best to start trying to stay still..even if he didn't want to. He would talk with Calenor later about it.

"I am glad." he said, gently smiling. "And Belenus seems to be enjoying himself as well." The small bird was flitting about, checking out the new surroundings. As they were walking, snow began slowly falling from the sky. Rhitarion immediately noted the frozen water. "At least it waited until we got here." he said. The children in the camp were yelling happily at the falling snow. The sound cause the Dragon to smile. They reached the large field that was surrounded by several large trees. The Dragon led the way over to one of the larger trees. He debated with himself as to whether or not it would be all right for them to rest there even with the snow falling. The flakes did not seem to be falling that fast but the Dragon decided that perhaps it would be best for them to remain standing. He leaned against the tree, simply watching the flakes fall.

He would occasionally flick his eyes over to Jewel. After a few moments, he spoke. "You know, I can't remember the last time that I was actually here for winter. We have a festival..the Festival of Adrau. It is a festival in which we celebrate our ancestors and the Ancients. It lasts for about a week. I suspect that they'll start decorating tomorrow. There is always food, drinks, gifts..stuff like that. And stories. At night, we all gather to tell tales of all of our great ancestors..and the Ancients. I hope that you will enjoy it." Rhitarion was watching Jewel. He could imagine how she was feeling, being here with his kind. He had once felt the same way when he'd first come to the Lower Lands.

Jewel followed the dragon to the trees, and remained standing, like he did, though she didn't lean against a tree. She looked up, though, choosing instead to watch the snow falling. But she still listened intently to her friend. He was, after all, the only oerson here she really knew. She'd still have to get to know Calenor and Karliah, but she figured that would happen, anywa, seeing as Calenor was his friend, and Karliah was his adopted sister. Chances were, she'd be around the pair of them, anyway.

"Yes, he does seem fairly happy. ...And we were hoping it would wait...at least it didn't really slow us down." Tithender had done that on his own. She shoved that thought aside, though. She looked back down as she heard the children. At least they were having fun, anyway. She gave a little smile. That was always a good thing. She glanced at her companion as he spoke again, then looked back up at the snow.

"That sounds like fun. I look forward to seeing how everyone decorates for a festival like that. Oh, but the festival sounds like a lot of fun, too." She remembered he had talked about the Ancients before, and had explained how a dragon became an ancient in the first place.

"And I think the stories should be fairly interesting, too." Just another insight to the dragon's culture. She was actually very interested in their Festival of Adrau. It was something else new. She just hoped that, by then, she would be at least a little more used to living with these dragons.

"I'm already looking forward to it."

"There are other things that take place but I will let you see them for yourself. It is definitely one of our more important times of year." He paused for a moment, watching Belenus and then Jewel. As he looked at Jewel, the Dragon smiled. He could never have imagined himself befriending a Elf before he'd met Jewel. Now, however, he could not imagine not caring for her as he now did. The wind was blowing a bit harder now, and Rhitarion tilted his head up as he looked into the sky. By doing this, his hair moved more in the wind. "Did you know, that Dragons are connected to the elements?"

The Dragon paused, allowing his friend to answer him. Then, he spoke again. "Though our bodies can not retain heat as well Humans or Elves, we do still enjoying being out in the weather. We have to be careful though. If our body temperature drops to low or too fast we can go into shock." He doubted that anyone save a Dragon knew any of what he'd just told her. Dragons' bodies were extremely fragile in several respects. He had just given Jewel one of those. He was showing her great trust in telling her that. He wondered if she would understand that. Either way, he felt as if she needed to know it..especially if she was going to be around him through the winter. He figured that she would soon pick up on the fact that he wasn't staying outside as long as he normally would.

Rhitarion still remained against the tree, looking as if he had no intention of moving any time soon. Suddenly, Belenus landed on the Dragon's shoulder, resting. Rhitarion didn't move as he felt the bird near him. He had become used to the creature. "I'm surprised that Karliah hasn't come looking for us yet. We've been out here for a while..it's not like her." he said, eyeing Jewel. "Especially since my back is not fully healed yet. She's probably trying to decide on something for dinner." He was smiling at his friend.

Jewel gave a big grin. That just meant there were more surprises for her to find out about during this festival. And, obviously, this festival was very important to the dragons. That probably meant it was pretty big for a festival. She hesitated, though, when he started talking again, explaining how dragons were sensitive to the weather; specifically to it being too cold. So...playing outside in the snow all day was bad for a dragon. But that also meant she knew something she had never heard of before. Her parents had led her to believe almost nothing could hurt a dragon, and now she was discovering they were sensitive to cold. She was surprised he would tell her something like that.

"That's alright; we just won't be outside for very long, is all." She didn't want anything to happen to her friend, after all. They got along so well...and then there was the fact that he was prince, and if anything happened to him, Tithender would be able to take over, and that wouldn't be very good, either. She glanced at him; he didn't look like he was going to move anytime soon. And then Belenus was on the dragon's shoulder. She gave a small smile and looked back up at the sky. Exploring the dragon camp was fun and all, but snow was something she could watch fall anywhere. It was strange to her; the dragons were made out to be so very different from the rest of them, but they went through very similar things. They could be injured, they were affected by cold...they weren't as different as she had been led to believe. She glanced back to Rhitarion.

"You're right; she seemed so concerned, I'm surprised she hasn't even come to check up on you." Even if she was deciding on dinner, that didn't mean she couldn't leave. Did that just mean she had trusted Jewel to take care of her? Or she really was just busy with the dinner. She shouldn't go making assumptions like that on her own, Especially when she barely knew Karliah. Still, she returned his smile.

"Yeah; she's probably busy with dinner," she added. Rhitarion knew her better; chances were his guess was probably closer.

As Rhitarion was getting ready to say something else, he suddenly froze. "Here you are. I was about to start worrying about you two." It was Karliah. Rhitarion smiled at his adopted sister. Karliah moved to stand in front of Jewel and Rhitarion. She was smiling, unlike she had been earlier. "Jewel, I was wondering if you would like to help me with something?" the Female Dragon eyed the Elf, wondering what she would say. As they waited for Jewel's reply, suddenly Karliah spoke again. "And don't even think about asking what it is, Rhitarion. You are going to go spend some time with Calenor. Besides..if I know you, you've been out here for far too long. Now, off with you."

Rhitarion knew better than to argue with Karliah. He simply stalked off, Belenus leaving him to remain with Jewel. The male Dragon slowly made his way back into the hold and quickly found Calenor in a medium sized room that resembled a library. He joined his friend, sitting down in one of the large chairs. The two remained silent for some time before the steward spoke. "So, I imagine that Karliah sent you here. She had mentioned wanting to spend some time with your friend." Rhitarion smiled and laughed lightly. "Yes. I imagine that she'll keep Jewel occupied for some time." The two male Dragons continued speaking with one another for some time.

After Rhitarion had left Karliah and Jewel, the female Dragon eyed the Elf for a moment. "So, are you coming?" she asked, slowly walking off towards the hold. As they walked, Karliah spoke again. "I am wanting to have something special fixed for supper and I thought that we could get to know one another better. I mean, you are going to be staying with us for a while and you are traveling with my brother." She fell silent, allowing the Elf to speak if she wanted to. Karliah led the way down to the kitchens. Once there, she began throwing a few orders to the cooks. Once dinner was being started, Karliah turned to Jewel. "So, I was thinking about fixing something special for dessert. I won't bore you with the name but it's basically a chocolate cake. Will you help me with it?"

Karliah then began gathering all of the things that they would need. After that, she began adding ingredients into a large bowl. "I want Rhitarion to see what it is that he's missing by refusing to stay with us. I'm always worrying about him, you know? I can tell that he likes you, though. My brother does not often spend time with anyone outside of the family. He..finds it hard to trust I think. He's got it in his head that the only reason anyone will ever like his is because of what he is." The Dragon looked up at Jewel, wondering what she thought about the information she'd just received. Karliah didn't speak to many save for Rhitarion or Calenor. She just didn't like people. However, she found that even though she'd not known Jewel for very long, that she did like her.

Jewel hesitated as Rhitarion froze; there wouldn't be trouble here, of all places, would there? But it was only Karliah. She gave a grin. She paused, though, when she asked Jewel for help. She glanced at Rhitarion; had they really spent that much time outside? Maybe, instead of mentioning not staying out too long, she should have suggested they head inside instead. But she was so interested in the camp! There would always be later to wander around, though.

"Yeah, sure; I don't mind helping you out..." She only wondered what Rhitarion would do. Until, of course, Karliah sent him to spend time with Calenor. Well, at least neither one would be bored. She glanced at Belenus as he chose to stay back with her, hovering near her head. She couldn't imagine why the bird wanted to stay near her and not the dragon, especially when he was probably much more used to dragons. She hurried to follow Karliah as she started walking off. She thought about it for a bit.

"Well, yes, I guess I will be staying here for a while. It probably would be best if we did get to know each other." She watched quietly as Karliah gave orders to the cooks once they arrived in the kitchens. Apparently they all listened to Karliah very well. Something to do with her being Rhitarion's sister, maybe? But she shrugged it off as Karliah spoke to her again.

"Yes; of course. Just tell me how I can help." Jewel supposed a chocolate cake was the same anywhere, but at the same time, she was a little curious as to what the dragons called it. She decided not to push, though; she was here to get to know Karliah, not to ask questions about the dragons. Somehow, it seemed rude to change to subject too much. She listened intently to the female dragon as she talked. She figured she would be worried about Rhitarion; she had made that clear before, too. She hesitated, though, when she said she thought Rhitarion liked her. What was she supposed to make of that? She liked that thought, though. She tried to shrug it off.

"Well...maybe he has a reason to think like that. I'm sure he'll be proven wrong at some point. And of course I understand worrying about your brother. ...To be honest...I'm a little worried about my own brother. He's...a little too against the humans; last I heard, he wanted to be able to fight them. He'll find some way to involve himself in the war, I'm sure. He's just past the age where he listens to his older sister." She shrugged. She wished there were something she could do, but there wasn't, so she'd just have to hope for the best.

Karliah listened to Jewel but remained silent even after the Elf fell silent. She went over in her mind what the other female had said. She then stopped what she was doing, looking at Jewel. "Perhaps Rhitarion is already being proven wrong. After all, you like him..do you not? Or do you merely stick with him because of his title or the fact that he is a Dragon?" She paused for a moment, allowing the Elf to answer if she wished. "You have a brother? I can relate to your situation. Rhitarion does not fear for his safety. He never has. He simply does as he thinks is right. He takes alot after his father. But..he is unbound..that is, he is not..married nor does he ever give any of the other females a chance. If anything happens to him, Tithendir will take the throne. That can not happen. My brother is selfish..he refuses to bind himself to anyone. He says that he will when someone catches his eye but as I've just told you, he won't even give anyone the time of day."

The female Dragon smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry. I'm ranting. That is not why I wanted to spend time with you. I will pray to the Ancients for your brother..that they will watch over him. Perhaps that will be enough to keep him safe." Karliah then began working on the cake, again. Every once in a while she would ask Jewel for a item that was out of her reach but other than that, the female Dragon had fallen silent again. After some time had passed, she spoke. "I'm sure that you are curious as to how Rhitarion's family came to take me in. My parents were both honored guards of the realm. They would have done anything for the king. I was very young when it happened. They just didn't come home one day. The queen came to fetch me from daycare. She told me everything that she could tell a young child. What I later learned, was that it was Tithendir's father that had killed them. Rhitarion's father felt terrible and took me in. They adopted me shortly after that. Rhitarion and I have been close ever since. Calenor..and I however, not so much. He is better now that we've been working together, but..he's never liked me. No matter what I do."

Karliah fell silent. She turned her gaze back down to the dark batter. She'd perhaps given too much out about herself. For some time now, she had a deep love for Calenor. Not that the male Dragon would ever notice her. She didn't look like the older females. She had, after all just recently come to age.

Jewel bit her lip, glancing off to the side after hearing what Karliah had to say. Did she like him? Sure, they were good friends...unless her frustration with Meerinia had really been jealousy. ...Who exactly did she think she was kidding? After a moment of thinking, she sighed.

"No, I didn't stick around because he's a dragon, or because of his title. Honestly, I don't even think much about any of that. Yes, I do like Rhitarion." Sure, the original reason had been because she was lost and on her own...but she really had come to like the dragon. Her thoughts strayed when Karliah started talking again. She smiled, though. Somehow, that did sound a little like her younger brother...but Rhitarion wasn't fond of the war; her brother supported it. She hadn't talked to too many people that worried as much as she did...most were fairly confident in the safety of their family. She hesitated as she started talking more about Rhitarion. He didn't talk too much about himself, and here she had a chance to learn more.

Granted, she had assumed he wasn't married; Meerinia wouldn't have acted the way she did if he had been. Anyway, if he was married, he wouldn't be traveling on his own. At least, he shouldn't be. And, from what she had gathered so far, no one had caught his eye. Except, Karliah thought that Jewel had. She wasn't sure what to make of that fact. Rhitarion didn't like any of the female dragons...but liked an elf? It sounded a little odd...but she couldn't really say she wasn't at least a little pleased by it. Karliah apologized for ranting, and even said she'd pray for her brother, which really was more than she had expected to happen. Then she was quiet, only asking for help in reaching items out of her reach.

Then Karliah explained how Rhitarion's family had adopted her. Rhitarion had glazed over the subject, only explaining that Tithender's father had killed her parents, and so they had adopted her. This was much more detail than Rhitarion had been willing to give. However, the subject seemed to abruptly change to Calenor. That seemed strange to her, until she thought about it a little more carefully. It almost sounded like there was something bothering about the fact that Calenor didn't seem to like her.

"...It almost sounds like you like Calenor," she noted, glancing at Karliah as she did. Then she hesitated. "Sorry...that probably isn't really my business..."

Karliah remained silent for some time, finishing up with the batter. She then poured the batter into two pans, shaking both so that there were no bubbles. For the few moments that she was working with the batter, she refused to look at Jewel. At last, though, her eyes turned to Jewel. "Do not apologize. But..you must promise me that you will say nothing to him. I mean, of course I like Calenor. I've known him for almost all of my life. I suppose that it is only natural that I would like him. He is like most of our kind, though. It takes us longer to love than most other races. However, he is also a man. They are oblivious to such matters. Besides..I've only recently come into age and I'm not fully grown yet. Why would he look at me when he has so many others that look much better than I?" She then smiled at Jewel, trying to hide how badly her heart hurt from thinking such things. She then handed one of the pans to Jewel. The female Dragon led the way to the oven and then placed her pan inside. She waited for Jewel to place her pan inside before shutting it closed.

She then walked back over to the counter where they had been working and began cleaning up their mess. Karliah smiled once again at the Elf. "If it makes you feel any better, I can easily see that my brother cares for you though I've no doubt that he will take his sweet time in realizing that for himself. I guess that all we can do is be patient with them. Besides, we have each other. We girls have to stick together." When she was finished cleaning, Karliah leaned against the counter, waiting for the cakes to finish. She went quiet, allowing her new friend to speak if she wished.

Rhitarion and Calenor were both still in the library. They were now discussing Jewel. "Why is she traveling with you? It seems odd that you would keep a Elf so close to you. To divulge our secrets to her." Calenor said. Rhitarion looked down for a moment before answering his friend. "I know that you..can not understand my reasoning, Calenor. However, I would not change anything that I have done. Jewel is important to our future. She is my friend and she saved my life. I could never lie to her." After Rhitarion fell silent, Calenor was immediately speaking again. "How do you know that she is important? I mean, do not get me wrong, I have nothing against the girl. She is not one of us. I just don't understand." Rhitarion wasn't liking where this was going. "I have seen it. Do not question me about this. She will play a big part very soon. It does not matter if you understand..or that everyone else understands."

Calenor stood then, eyeing the Prince. "Rhitarion, I will not question you but know that I must inform your mother. I am sorry." With that, the Dragon left Rhitarion sitting alone. He'd known that Calenor would send for the queen. He had only hoped that he would wait..give Jewel time to settle in with the rest of the Dragons. Of course, Calenor had not said when he was going to send for her.

Jewel hesitated, but nodded. Clearly this bothered the young dragon. She was right, though; men did seem to be a little...oblivious about things like that. The fact that dragons took longer to feel such things, though, was new, and a little discouraging. But that was alright; Karliah thought Rhitarion liked her, and that was enough for the time being. But the fact that Calenor seemed to show no interest seemed odd. She placed her pan in the oven after Karliah, and watched her shut the door.

As she turned to help her clean up the mess, she listened to the dragon. So...she was very sure about it...about Rhitarion...but couldn't be sure about Calenor. She supposed that was fairly normal, as well. Sometimes the only people who could tell about these sorts of things were people outside, looking at other people rather than themselves. Well, if they were close enough, anyway, to know about that sort of thing. She gave a smile.

"Of course we have to stick together; so I won't tell Calenor. But I have to wonder...why you're so intent on focusing on age and appearance. It shouldn't matter too much. Besides, you said he had gotten better. Perhaps he's already warming up to you? Now, I don't know much about Calenor, so it's just a guess...but things take time, like you said." She shrugged. At least, she had gathered that much from what she had said about Calenor before.

"Isn't it possible he's taking his own sweet time realizing it, just like you say Rhitarion will?"
