There is of course her marking of light, which is in the shape of a Lotus Blossom on her stomach, right above her belly button. There's also an odd tattoo on the back of her neck, a sequence of numbers in a seemingly random pattern. Finally, there are plenty of scars. Most have been faded or covered up with surgical procedures to make her skin smooth once more.

Yui is small, but mighty. There is evidence on her body of suffering, but she can't recall where they are from or what happened. She stands at a nonthreatening 4'9, severely underweight at 60 Ibs (average is about 74). Her hair is the color of delectable butterscotch, or maybe caramel candies. Her eyes are a deep blue, her complexion milky white and doll like with big round eyes and a button nose. Behind her ears, are a bit of a peculiarity. There appear to be feathers stuck there. They aren't earrings and should you pull on them it will cause her great amounts of pain. Best to just leave them alone.
Yui's fingers are long and slender, made for playing piano or weaving. As far as clothing goes, she wears whatever is given to her and does so without complaint. Overall, her entire figure seems to be doll-like and sought after, others seem to just want to put her on a shelf and admire her, but Yui wouldn't let them do a silly thing like that.

{β˜› β“…β’Ίβ“‡β“ˆβ“„β“ƒβ’Άβ“β’Ύβ“‰β“Žβ˜š}

A doll both physically and mentally, Yui appears to be very delicate. Yui has a very fragile mind, in many ways she has already been broken and is slowly rebuilding herself. The girl is sweet and kind, caring and passionate. A lot of people have taken advantage of her for those things and it is for those reasons that she is so careful. Yui has a very big heart, but if you hurt her she will shun you. To Yui there is nothing worse than betrayal, except maybe Ira Shoku. That man makes the hair on the back of her neck stand up, she hates him with all of her heart and doesn't know why. Due to her loss of memory, the blue eyed girl is crafting a new character, she doesn't know who-or what-she is and would like to find out, but no one seems privy to reveal this information.

Yui is discovering both the light and dark side of the world she lives in; there is a lot of love and hope, but a lot of pain and loss that balance it out. There is bad to every good and slowly, Yui is seeing how terribly cruel their society is. The female is deathly afraid of the dark, she hates being alone in dark rooms and always carries around a little flashlight in case she ever finds herself in a situation where she gets stranded in the shadows. Yui also hates people who think they are better than everyone because they have more money or power; those who enjoy flaunting their cash and status bother her to no end. Despite the things she hates, Yui has many things that she loves. For instance, the ocean. Yui seems to almost have a second layer of skin, it sparkles when caught in the light and has to stay wet; which doesn't seem very hard in a country covered in snow, but the water has to be salty. This second layer of skin allows her to breathe underwater, but if it isn't hydrated properly, Yui won't be able to breathe at all.

Yui is very easy to please, give her chocolate and she seems to be happy. She is, unfortunately, very easily distracted. Shiny things always manage to steal her attention and sometimes her train of thought will abruptly derail, replaced with a painful memory that will overwhelm her and then disappear like it was never there in the first place. During these instances, her ability tends to get out of hand and it's best to get as far away as possible from Yui. When she's better, she's often left shaking and crying, but with no recollection of what happened.

Yui has no memory of her past, the Freedom Fighters have informed her that she was found floating on an a chunk of ice near the shore. Someone rescued her from there and noticed the mark, informing a private doctor that the Freedom Fighters payed underneath the table. Once she was stable, the child was moved from the hospital to the Freedom Fighter's hideout.

The truth is that Yui and her brother were the first two Light Bearer's. She was born with the mark, a small white flower bud on her stomach that slowly blossomed with age. It was this strange deviation that prompted a look-see from a doctor during their mandatory visit and Yui and her older brother were swept out of their home and into a research facility to better understand the transforming nevus. The tests that followed were painful and enough to drive anyone to the point of insanity. The poking and prodding that dug up nothing led to stabbing, burning, and torture all in the name of "science" and the "future of the Commonwealth." By the time the team of researchers had uncovered the children's abilities the two youths had been broken, their innocence stolen far too early.

Yui was separated from her brother and was forced to use her ability on people deemed traitors of the country. Her gift with blood manipulation was a terrifying thing and she was locked in the sublevels of the research building, the only light coming from artificial bulbs in the ceiling. There she was isolated, only allowed to see scientists that came to torture her with more "research" or the criminals she was about to execute. When they weren't using Yui to murder, they were testing out drugs to attempt to subdue or control the gifts; some of which had unruly side affects that caused nightmares or did odd things to her body.

It was during an escape attempt that Yui lost her memory. She was not the one attempting to escape mind you; no Yui had given up the hope of freedom a long time ago. The prisoner she was attempting to put down, however, was particularly unruly and had fashioned a shank out of a plastic spoon and spring he found in a mattress. He only managed to scratch Yui's cheek, but it was enough to distract the girl which allowed the prisoner to hit her over the head and wrap his hands around her throat. After she passed out and the prisoner escaped, he threw her into the sea, promptly getting shot now that he wasn't holding something deemed valuable. They searched for her of course, but at this point, she was already gone. Three weeks later, Yui awoke in the headquarters of the Freedom Fighter's resistance.

The entire car ride, Yui was peering up from where she lay on the back seat. Damian had instructed her to stay low and out of sight, but Yui wanted to look out the window. She was curious as to what was outside, as to how the places outside of the city looked. She was eager to get there and hardly heard Aria's words as they pulled in. Damian decided to wait in the car in case they needed a quick get away. Yui pulled her jacket on closer, making sure her winter knit cap was snug on her head. Unexpectedly, Aria grabbed her from around the middle and instantly Yui flinched away, struggling for a moment or two before realizing it was just Aria.

Yui stopped fighting and allowed the girl to carry her up on a gust of wind, looking down from her position on the cloud. "The world is so different up here," her eyes watered, tears freezing on her cheeks at this altitude. Yui hardly noticed though, she was looking down, down, at the humans on the ground. They looked like gloomy ants, marching in line in gray uniforms as they headed to their work stations. "Do you think she's down there?" Looking for a little girl who could possibly about her height and weight. It was hard to tell though, they all just looked like sad ants.

Yui felt very... Distressed, looking at this display of human power gone wrong. What Ira was doing to these people was wrong; they weren't criminals, merely those who opposed him. "I want to free them all," Yui spoke quietly. When Aria proposed her two plans, Yui nodded her head. "I would like to defend people," she didn't want to hurt anyone and it would be especially dangerous to use her abilities in a place where Ira Shhoku could have eyes. What if he saw her? What if he sent people after her? If that happened, it would hurt everyone. Not just Yui, but Aria, Damian, Xavier, and so many others that they had tried to free.

Yui was thinking when suddenly, the cloud fell out from under her. Her balance tipped and she dipped over, falling off of Aria's gust and plummeting like a rock towards the ground. "Aria!" Yui screamed, reaching up towards the singer as she fell towards the camp.

Aria's head was pounding. She felt some small amount of control slipping and shut out the world, closing her eyes, in an attempt to refocus. Was she overusing her powers? That couldn't be possible, in her rampages she's done so much more with less breaks in between, so that couldn't be it. Still, her head felt as if it were being mercilessly pummeled. Wincing, she rubbed at the side of her head with her good arm, forcing a smile as Yui talked about wanting to protect people. The ex-idol made a mental note that Aria seemed to like the second option better when it happened, for just a split second.

"Aria!"

Yui tumbled and let out a scream, hand outstretched. Aria instinctively swooped down, twisting her body to catch Yui in her arms - feeling a painful ripping sensation in her midsection. Blood dripped down from the safety of the invisibility, splattering far down below on the head of an Enforcer. The Enforcer then called an alarm, putting the entire camp on high alert. When catching Yui, Aria accidentally smashed her head into the mermaid's back, causing her momentary dizziness and surprise, which forced her to temporarily undo the invisibility altogether. It was a series of accidents that wouldn't have been out of place in a cringe comedy movie, way back when.

"Uh." For once, Ari was at a complete loss for words. She just stared at the disaster unfolding, too fazed to even process the words Damian was screaming into her mind. "Um. Yeah, this isn't good. Not even a little."

A stupid idea popped into the singer's head. She muttered a quick apology to Yui and used a blast of wind to propel her far into the air, away from everything. If she was once property of Shoku, it'd be safest to keep her away and out of sight for as long as possible. Who knows what the tyrant would do to get his property back? Aria, still floating, made an illusion that resembled a pornographic image to pretty much grab everyone's attention. Once everyone on the ground was looking, the illusionist made another one, writing out the words "We will save you, so have hope!" in large puffy lettering, with a happy face in the end.

Aria then made herself invisible again and created several versions of her at the same time, each flying off in a different direction. The real her, unseen, darted back to Yui to grab her before she could become a bloodstain on the rocks, catching her with deftness and grace and another painful feeling around her middle.

"I'm feeling kinda weak." Aria admitted, gritting her teeth. "We figured out a basic idea though...so that's good."

"What were you thinking?" Damian's voice rung in her head, pounding in her skull. "Now they'll all be on alert tomorrow!"

But so will the workers, Aria thought in response. And they'll fight for freedom once they get the chance. Some of them will die, but it gives them hope. Everyone deserves to feel hope.

"...That was surprisingly cheesy, coming from you. Just get back to the car, but be careful."

The girls were both relatively far from the camp now, though Aria really felt like she needed a long sleep. She gestured at Yui with a grin. "Lead the way, I'll be right behind you."

Down, down, down, Yui went until; Thump! Tear! Aria had caught her, triggering the alarm. Before Yui could register anything aside from the dots of blood, Aria threw her again. Through the air Yui went, somersaulting in the wind. Her knit cap slipped off of her head, landing inside of the work camp. The wind blew her top open and Yui attempted to shield her face. Something caught her again, Aria. "Are you alright?" Yui asked, concerned. It sounded like Aria had pulled her stitches out during the action. She said she was tired and weak and Yui understood what she meant. "When we get back, you should take a hot bath." Yui suggested.

Yui led the way, the two walking in silence. Every so often, Yui would glance back at Aria to ensure that she was still following or that she hadn't fallen. When they reached the car, Damian ran towards them, sweeping Aria off of her feet and placing her in the car. "What did I say about doing stupid things Aria!" Damian had been worried, Yui could tell that much. She looked down at the snow, droplets of blood making a trail as to where Aria had been. "Yui, come on!" Yui looked up, remembering something.

"One minute!" The girl called, taking out her bottle of salt water and dumping it over her head. Once refreshed, she jumped into the car. Damian reversed onto the blood in an attempt to wipe it out before driving forward. Yui looked back towards the camp; they'd be returning tomorrow.

Tomorrow.

Ira Shoku would finally begin to realize just how much of a threat they really were. If it worked. If it didn't, they would all be dead. Yui lay on the bench looking up at the sky. Damian was calling the doctor on the way back home. Home, it seemed like such a strange word. Did Yui really consider the Freedom Fighter HQ her home? She woke up there, she returned there at the end of every day. They were even going there now.

Yes, Yui decided, home was with those she felt the most comfortable with.

|| Angel with a Shotgun || The Cab ||

Aria woke up after another session of stitches. She tiredly stared at the doctor, almost unaware of her surroundings. The last she could really remember was someone - Yui, maybe? - suggesting her to take a hot bath. After that, everything was kind of a blur. The Doctor just ruffled her hair gently, similar to how a parent would a child, and Aria just turned her head the other way, mouth curving to form a sharp frown.

"Looks like you've grown a little." The Doctor said in a teasing tone. "Usually you'd have-"

"Eat my shit and die in a hole." The singer interrupted, though her words held no strength or malice behind them. The Doctor just chuckled and left to discuss with Damian, leaving Aria in the bed, feeling too weak to move whatsoever. She already knew that for the mission tomorrow, she'd have to shove painkillers down her throat if she wanted to perform well. She didn't want to delay the rescue either - after giving the workers hope, it'd be cruel to just leave them there. Not to mention, if there was the slightest chance of rescuing Mizuki and Ikeda, she'd take it, no matter what. Still, since Yui seemed to like the idea of being in charge of evacuation, that meant she and Xavier were going to have to traverse the sewers to get directly under the Central Command building and start a huge fight there.

Was it really possible, though? Given her extensive injuries, she wasn't going to be able to fight at her best. And it wasn't like this was some minor mission... this was the real deal. It was do or die. Mulling ideas through her head, Aria allowed herself to slip into a fitful sleep, a dreamless night.

Aria woke up again, this time to her old childhood friend, Xavier. He was talking to Damian, and there was some heated discussion going on, judging by their voices. The singer decided to pretend to be asleep, not wanting to interrupt their talk.

"She was our ace, Damian." Xavier sounded agitated. "We needed her at her healthiest for the mission, and now she's all banged up like this? What the hell are we gonna do?"

Damian's own voice sounded slightly defensive, if anything. "You know I can't control her, man. She doesn't listen when I tell her to behave."

Then Xavier laughed, and there was a clapping sound. Did Xavier just pat Damian on the back, or something? "You're right, you're right." The leader said, lightening up. "I'll have a few words with her. We'll think of something, Damian. Go and wake Yui up, will you?" Footsteps, and then the sound of a door shutting, leaving Aria and Xavier in the room together. To be honest, the grey haired girl felt relieved that he was finally back. It felt that with Xavier's jokey personality, balance was restored at the Freedom Fighters HQ. She felt a little more relaxed. "You can stop pretending, I know you're awake."

Ah. Well, shit.

"You'd be the only one who'd know." Aria grumbled, opening her eyes and grinning toothily at her old friend. "Nice to see you again."

Xavier ran a hand through his hair as he looked over the wounds the girl picked up over the days. The broken arm, the piercing wound in the gut. It was as if it were causing him physical pain just looking at it. "Y'know, I was counting on you to be on top form for today. I can't babysit you all the time."

"Yeah, I know. I get it." Aria waved him off, gesturing almost proudly at her torso. "Just for the record, this was Yui. She beat me in a practice fight - she's really damn strong. Even with me like this, it should be fine with her around."

Xavier let out a sigh, shaking his head. "Damian ran through the plan with me earlier. We're both on the attack team, right?"

Aria nodded eagerly. "Of course! But - uh..." She glanced down at herself before smiling again. "I'll stay invisible and mainly make illusions to support you. I won't put myself at risk unless I have to. That's fine, right?"

The leader nodded cautiously, then relaxed his shoulders. "And about Yui, it's confirmed that she used to be with Shoku? And that her parents were killed?"

The idol nodded gravely, a look of distaste in her mouth. "I don't know what he did to her there, but we won't let it happen again. Yui stays with us, I don't care what you say."

Xavier then grinned, sitting himself at the edge of her bed. It was as if they were children again, back when things were happy and carefree. Those certainly were the days, even though they'd never be able to go back to them. "Remember way back, you were trying to climb to the roof of a house? And then you-"

Yeah, she remembered. She lost her grip near the top and fell onto Xavier - her leg broke and he got a shoulder fracture trying to catch her. It was terrible all around, yet the two couldn't stop laughing the whole time. What Aria wouldn't give to go back to those times. The world made sense back then - they didn't have to worry about fighting a war, or good and evil. Xavier rubbed her shoulder affectionately. "It's good to see you again. Join us your breakfast once you can, then we'll do the briefing to make sure everyone's on the same page.

Aria nodded, giving him a small wave. "Welcome back, old friend."

Yui was already awake. She had a hard time sleeping, worrying about Aria, and had spent most of her time waiting for the doctor to finish. Finally, Xavier had come in and put soothing images in her head to make her sleepy until finally, Yui had gone to bed. It was a rare dreamless sleep, the type that you awoke from naturally feeling well rested. Yui was feeling relatively good when she rolled out of bed. The Doctor had taken the stitches out of her forehead and had given her some pain medicine for a headache before going to check on Aria. Yui went to take her morning bath, making sure to pack two bottles of salt water because it could possibly be a long day. Yui went through the closet, looking for clothes that were comfy in and would give her the best range of movement.

She settled on a pair of thick, tight fighting pants and a soft cotton sweatshirt as well as her fuzziest socks. Once her hair had been tamed there was a knock on the door. Damian opened it, nodding in approval at how early she was ready. "We're gonna have breakfast soon, join us when you're ready." He closed the door behind him. Yui opened it back up, going to visit Aria before she went downstairs. The door was closed, the Doctor standing behind it. Yui would wait to visit then, she would bring Ari breakfast in case the girl couldn't come down the stairs.

On the first floor, Xavier and Damian were sitting at the table. "Morning," Yui chirped, taking a seat. Damian had made breakfast sandwiches, leaving the individual pieces out so that they could make them up however they wanted. Yui put everything in hers, then added ketchup. Xavier wrinkled his nose in disapproval. "Want some food with that ketchup?" He asked, chuckling. "I like it better like this." Yui replied after swallowing.

"Whatever way you want to eat it, as long as you eat it, is fine." Damian replied, ruffling her hair. Yui glanced between the two. If she didn't know any better, Yui probably would have thought they were brothers; they were so in sync, or maybe that was simply because Damian could read minds? "Can I take one up to Ari?" Yui asked, taking a swig of chocolate milk.

"Only if you finish yours first," Yui nodded her head and took another bite. "Whoa, slow down there, you don't want to choke." She wondered if this was what it was like to have parents.

When Yui was done, she assembled some of the food on a plate and carefully brought it up. The Doctor was leaving the room, his hands wet from washing them. Yui entered as he held the door open for her. "I brought you breakfast." Yui set it down on the table. "Are you feeling better today?" Perhaps it would be better to delay the mission a day or two, giving Aria time to rest and revitalize.

Saving Mizuki was one of the biggest reasons Aria joined the Freedom Fighters upon Xavier's request in the first place, all those years ago. It was her fault her precious little sister was captured, and she wanted to make up for it somehow. Sure, she cared about helping the rest of the world too, but her wild desperation stemmed entirely on rescuing Mizuki. She didn't deserve this kind of fate, and as a big sister, it was her responsibility to fix it. To save her and bring her back to safety. Aria knew that once Mizuki was safe and back in her arms, she'd be able to think more carefully about missions, while minimizing risk whenever possible.

A part of the idol likes to think that her becoming a Light Bearer was in order to save Mizuki from the work camps. Ever since that horrible day years ago, no matter what, she'd save her. Even if it meant giving her life, it was fine. She could die happy if that was the case. Heck, she didn't even mind all of these injuries other than the fact that it made her weaker.

What did redemption even mean, anyways? After committing atrocities against countless people, how does someone repay it? Ari immediately thought of Shoku. Sure, she wanted him dead, definitely. But wasn't killing him way too easy a fate? Didn't he deserve to be punished for all the pain he caused? And then, what did that mean for Aria? She was far from innocent as well - so many unrelated people were killed in her violent quest to rescue Mizuki. She was fighting for justice too, obviously, but Mizuki always mattered more than something like justice. Victory at any cost. She'd worry about reparations after.

In any case, the ex-idol's stomach was growling and she was hungry. She made a few awkward movements to try and get off the bed, only to sudden be paralyzed by a fear that she'd fall and hurt herself even more. She let out a moan as she forced wind out of her hand - startled at how weak it was - and fell in a heap on the floor. Luckily it didn't feel like there was a tear, but she certainly didn't feel ready to get up. It was as if she were a ragdoll, unable to move or help herself. And it was terrible.

The Doctor came in first, upon hearing the sounds. He stared for a moment before rushing Aria back into the bed and shoving some sort of IV into her arm before she could protest.

"What are you doing?" He asked. "You really shouldn't be moving around right now."

Aria grimaced angrily. "...Just doing push-ups. Gotta work my good arm." She said in a voice dripping with sarcasm. The Doctor furrowed his brow and she sighed heavily. "I was trying to go down to eat. I didn't realize how weak I was, okay?"

The Doctor made a tut sound and told her to be careful as he removed, cleaned, and wrapped new bandages around her, as well as checking the stitches to make sure they were still intact. He then smiled at the idol in that simpering way of his. "Be a good girl and rest for the day. You're not fit for any heroics today, I'm afraid."

"Bullshit." A dark scowl formed on her face. "I have to! I promised the workers at the camp that I'd free them!"

The Doctor shook his head at her and turned to leave, as Yui herself walked in, complete with food and a worried expression. She announced her intentions and asked a question, which made the idol even more annoyed than usual. Still, she was grateful and everything, sure...

"I'm fine." She grit her teeth and glared sourly. "I just need some food in me, that's all. Thanks, and stuff." Aria immediately wolfed the food down her throat and then started to choke painfully. She let out a miserable mewling noise as the food came out of her throat and she gulped down some water, staring blankly at the plate.

"Yui, I was supposed to be the strong one. I was invincible!" The singer groused. "This is ridiculous. Other people are hurt more than me, I can't just be so pathetic after an injury like this. You get it, don't you?" She felt like a helplessly weak child, unable to control anything. It was horrible.

Fate like to play cruel jokes, the world was unkind, it was harsh and forgiving, just like Japan's leader. There were many people attempting to get close to that man in order to take him down, or two succeed his power when he died. Possibly one, more likely both. Yui didn't understand politics and she certainly didn't understand the people behind them. How could one decide to hurt another? What qualified one to rule over others or try to lead them? Ira was a tyrant, not a leader. He was taking and taking, giving nothing back. Killing, enforcing, slowly sapping the color from their lives and leaving them with nothing but black and white with multiple shades of grey. Grey, like Aria's hair.

It wasn't fair, Aria mewled, clearly in distress and why shouldn't she be? Like a doll that had become broken from too much play. Or perhaps one that had been thrown aside in favor of a new one? Yui didn't like that thinking though. Aria was an important team mate and a vital part of the Freedom Fighter's infrastructure. She was Xavier and Damian's childhood friend, and one of the toughest girls Yui had ever met. "You're still strong," Yui sat down. She had heard the Doctor say that Aria was in no shape to go liberating. Yui believed so as well. They could put it off a day, surely the campers would understand. It wasn't as though Aria had given them a date, she had just promised that they would.

Seeing all those poor people mulling about, looking as though they wanted to return home, to their families. It made Yui sad. Suddenly, she blinked. "Where will all of them go?" Surely they couldn't return home, it wasn't as simple as that. Home was the first place the Enforcers would look. Would they get on boats then and leave the country? Surely the other countries wouldn't simply let them all in and then if they tried to register, would they be rejected, like in Japan?

"Even if we rescued them, wouldn't the Enforcers just come for them and put them right back?" There could even be consequences for being unruly. Yui didn't want them to get hurt because they made a bad decision. "Maybe we shouldn't go today," she shook her head. "Maybe we should think this through more and it'll give you a chance to rest up." That seemed like the best plan of action, although Yui knew that Aria wouldn't like it.

Surely Mizuki could wait one more day if it meant the difference between life and death for her sister?

Aria stared as Yui spoke to her in that soft voice of hers. 'You're still strong', she says. In what way was she strong, confined to a bed like this? The dancer was beyond frustrated at herself for allowing this to happen. It wasn't really Yui's fault obviously, but she couldn't help but feel faint animosity towards the girl. She shook her head as if trying to clear her thoughts. Yui wasn't ever anything but nice to her - it wouldn't be fair to lash out at her. She took a few deep breaths, trying to concentrate. Yui - as well as everyone else - was always nice and caring. She can't lash out. More deep breaths.

Then Yui brought up an interesting point. Even if they did rescue the workers, where exactly could they go? The Freedom Fighters still weren't strong enough to just have a separate colony for them to live in, or anything. The fact that it was Yui who thought of it made the singer feel even more sour. It was her job to be the strategist, yet she allowed herself to be blinded by desperation to save Mizuki? Wasn't that just idiocy? Aria narrowed her eyes but let them go back to their default setting, hoping no one noticed. It was a valid point...

"Maybe we shouldn't go today." Yui's voice, though soft and sweet as usual, sounded twisted and warped to the singer's ears. She scowled as she heard them, knowing where they were headed. "Maybe we should think this through more and it'll give you a chance to rest up."

It was as if a pressure point has been popped. Ari suddenly stopped caring about future regrets as she glared hard at the mermaid with a dirty, angry look. Her mouth opened and she could already feel the venom boiling inside, ready to burst. "You're clever, aren't you?" The snapped in a biting tone. "You're even stronger than me! Heck, you'll probably end up stronger than my at my best pretty soon! And look at you, coming up with all these plans and stuff, like, what the heck am I even good for then? Delaying the rescue because of me? Seriously?

Almost as if by reflex, the wind mage sent forth a blast of wind with surprising strength at the mermaid, trying to force her out of the room. "Fine, go ahead and replace me." Aria scowled. She already regretted her words and wished she could take them back, but her gigantic pride forced her anger to continue raging. It was too late. "I'll just sit here all weak and useless then! That's what's best for everyone, isn't it?"

Yui was just trying to think like them, like a strategist, like a Freedom Fighter, but apparently, that wasn't liked. Aria blew up, quite literally, blasting wind at the child that tore through her clothes. The door blew open, as though signaling it were about time she left. Yui stood, suppressing her tears. "It's not like that!" She tried one more time. "I just didn't think I was brave enough to go without you." It was an excuse so as not to go, to keep Aria here so that the grey haired singer didn't end up somehow killing herself. What if Mizuki wasn't there at all? Then all of this, it would be for nothing. Aria would have spent body and soul for a big-fat-nothing! "You're not useless," Yui whispered.

She left, the wind lashing at her body, blood dribbling down on her cheek. Yui held out, she heard Xavier and Damian calling out to her but it was as if they were speaking through a wall. Yui reached her room before she collapsed, the sight of blood making her shake. The pain, the cuts, like a whip hitting her over and over, crackling in the air as it was lifted and came down to strike. A hiss, like a snake, venom poised and at the ready. Yui had heard that sound before and much like that day on the beach, she couldn't see. She was blinded, her hearing taken over as well. Damian knocked, but Yui didn't hear it. He entered and cursed, telling Xavier to take care of Aria, see what all of the yelling was about.

The Doctor had heard it. He had come upstairs, poking his head into Yui's room. Cursing, but Yui didn't hear it, it was as though she were in another world. "Like a seizure," the Doctor's words floated through the room. Xavier held her shoulders, her head in his lap as the Doctor injected something into her leg. The shaking stopped, Yui sucked in a breath, her eyelids fluttering shut. The Doctor left, going to Aria's room to see what the commotion had been about. Xavier didn't dare move Yui from the floor. He stroked her forehead, murmuring words of encouragement to bring her back.

Crack! The whip broke the skin on her back, it flicked at her cheek, blood dripping into a pile. She was tied into a kneeling position, a blind fold covering her eyes so that she didn't know where or when the strikes would come. A whimper. The child couldn't oppose them, not with the suppression medicine in her veins. They had been trying different drug cocktails since her arrival in an attempt to see what would be best to control them. Whhhip! It cut through the air, slicing at her back. Blood dripped, dripped, dripped, she was naked, cold, and scared.

Then there was a crack, but it wasn't the whip. The sound of bones being crunched by teeth, snapping, a scream. A name came but it was like speaking through water. The blind fold removed, the boy was there. He was holding her, stroking her cheek. "!" A name came, but again she couldn't hear it. "Don't worry, I'm gonna take care of us. I'm gonna get us out of here."

She gasped, unable to breathe. Yui coughed, struggling to take air into her lungs. Her head was dropped onto the floor, Xavier filled up the bath tub quickly, dumping her in while it was still filling. Blood ran, water turning red. Yui stayed under, feeling like she could finally breathe again. Xavier's hands were smudged with her blood; it almost looked as though he had tried to murder her, the way the water was tinted. He had seen it, the whole fragment of memory.

Of course, for Yui, it was gone. As fast as it had come it had fled and the piece of the puzzle went into hiding. She was still trembling when she surfaced. "Feeling better?" Xavier asked. He was sitting against the wall, one leg up, the other down. Yui nodded her head.

"Thank you."

|| Angel with a Shotgun || The Cab ||

If Aria could run away in shame, she would have. She didn't mean to actually hurt Yui - Yui was her precious friend! The girl was only ever nice to her, and yet she - she -

Her mind felt like it was in jumbles. She'd tried to prevent the blast of wind - she wanted desperately to have pulled back her hand at the last second, but instead she released it and Yui got hurt and everything was her fault, she was terrible. For the first time, the idol began to feel that she didn't really fit in with the rest of the Freedom Fighters. Maybe the Fox was right - what if she was better suited to serve in the HIVE? What if she was only deluding herself into thinking she belonged with her friends? After hurting Yui with no excuse, honestly, there was no justification. Anger wasn't a reason to just go around hurting a friend, was it? Did Aria even consider any of them a friend, anyways? Doubts and fears spiraled and multiplied in her mind, swirling around, only increasing her own paranoia that she wasn't really meant to be a Freedom Fighter in the first place.

The worst part was that even after knocking Yui down, Aria kept the assault up, sending the gale cutting into her multiple times before finally Xavier, Damian, and the Doctor rushed up the stairs to see what the commotion was. Xavier rushed into her room at Damian's behest, staring at Aria with those wide confused eyes, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Those eyes of confused wonder was more than enough to convince Aria that with Yui around, she didn't really have a place anymore. Victory no matter what, replace the old and obsolete models with the newer, stronger, friendlier versions. She couldn't blame them, could she? Aria observed with a scowl as Yui convulsed in what seemed to be a flashback and Xavier turned his attention back to the mermaid.

"...Take care of her, Xavier. She's the new me, after all."

Feeling new strength surge through her good arm, Aria turned herself invisible and floated to the front door, leaving the building in which she thought she was worth something. She ascended into the sky, high up - she forgot her jacket but for some reason wasn't even feeling the cold.

"What the hell are you doing? Get back here!" Damian's voice, so loud it snapped her out of her misery circle. Aria immediately started shivering, the will to run suddenly gone. "If you're going to leave, at least save your sister first. Wasn't that your goal all along?"

Was she even needed anymore? Was there a point in her being there? Shame and anger mixed together, and the raging idol forced herself back into the house, carefully holding herself so as to not further cause injury. Damian led her to the bathroom, where Yui was half submerged in water. She stared at the mermaid in the tub.

"...After seeing that, do you really still want me around? Or would you rather I just left?" Sadly, pride was still in effect, despite her wanting to kneel and beg for forgiveness. "...If you still want me, I guess I'll stick around. Maybe." Though her voice was hard and angry, her eyes were wide and absolutely miserable, betraying her true emotions.

She wasn't really absorbing words, it all seemed to simply float over her head. Yui suddenly felt very tired and she leaned her head back against the tub, closing her eyes. "Ari... We... Need.... You," the girl breathed, opening her eyes and looking up. Despite the fact that she was in the water, she was still panting. Her chest felt like someone was sitting on it and every intake of breath was sharp, like a knife in her lungs. "I don't know what you were thinking," Damian mumbled, shaking his head. Xavier joined them in the bathroom, closing the door behind him. "Guys, we can't have any more accidents today, the Doctor's leaving." He joked, sitting down next to Damian. Yui attempted to get out of the tub, but Xavier told her not to. She sat back down, looking back and forth from the boys to Aria.

"Ari, you're a vital part of this team. Just because we have new team members doesn't mean we don't need you," Xavier said, completely serious. A rarity. "Yui is young yes and yes a different ability, but Ari, you're my best. Friend. You've probably got the most talent and the strongest ability out of all of us." Xavier's expression was dead set. "Now, we need to talk battle plan. If you're healed up by tonight then we can go. Darkness would be better for us anyways."

"But-"

Damian protested and Xavier cut him off. "Of course, that's only if you feel better." There was still one problem though. Even if they liberated the camp, where would they put all of the people? "Where are they all gonna stay?" Xavier shook his head, as if he were saying that it was all taken care of. Had he gotten them a boat? A plane? A bus? There were many of them, surely one bus wasn't going to be enough to put them all on and even so, what would they do after that?

Xavier winked, "I've got a place for them." Instantly Yui was intrigued. Where was this supposed place? Would they ever see the refugees again? What about Mizuki? She would come with them right? Not go with the campers?

Acting as if it was only because of Yui's words that convinced her to stay, Ari made a little "hmpf" sound of annoyance and shrugged her good shoulder, turning her eyes away to avoid the mermaid's large ocular orbs that seemed to stare deep into her soul. She shot an angry glare at Damian for his quip but before the irritable idol could say anything, Xavier spoke up. It seemed as if he'd already processed what had happened - though his eyes still seemed sunken, this time for another reason entirely. Was it related to Yui? Had he seen something? The telepath also looked as if he wanted to discuss what was seen - so there was definitely a memory involved in the recent seizure. More guilty thoughts rose up in Ari's chest that made her feel like throwing herself carelessly into another battle, simply to get injured further as penance. That kind of thinking was useless, however.

Aria had a long history with Damian and Xavier, though she definitely felt closer to the leader than the second. The two often went on daring adventures as children, sneaking into places they shouldn't, and poking their heads into dangerous places for the thrill. And given his expression - he meant what he said about Aria being the most talented. She wanted to protest, but her pride snuggled within her, feeling satisfied at the buttery words. It was true that she always beat Xavier when they had practice fights, but she always thought he was going easy on her out of sympathy. Xavier's wink only proved further that he was fit to be leader when he mentioned in vague terms that he had a place for the campers. But regarding Mizuki...

"Mizuki's staying with us." Aria said in a quiet voice, balling her fist. "That's - I'm ... this is non negotiable. I'll pun- ... I hope everyone's fine with that."

Xavier nodded with a smirk. "She was like a little sister to me, too. I'd move her in even if you were against it."

Damian seemed intent on a different issue, though. His gaze was trained on the mermaid and he seemed troubled. With a deep breath, his mouth opened.

"I have another memory of yours." He said in a low voice. "Do you want me to tell you now, or-"

Aria scowled deeply, feeling protective instincts rise up in defense of the mermaid - though if it was to pay back for injuring her or if she reminded her too much of Mizuki, it was hard to tell. "Later. She can't handle it right now, Damian!"

Damian's eyes narrowed and he visibly flinched. "Are you looking down on her? Yui can decide for herself if she thinks she's ready for it."

The wind mage and the telepath were glaring angrily at one another until Xavier decided to bonk both of their heads at each other.

"We can discuss that later." He said, aiming a friendly wink at Yui. "Aria, are you up for a night attack? You have to be honest - if you're not healed enough, you might collapse in the middle of the operation. You're amazingly strong, but even you have a limit."

The idol bristled, still rubbing her forehead from the collision with Damian. "...I'm... not sure." She admitted, forcing honesty out of her reluctant and arrogant throat. "My powers seem fine, but I don't know about my body. I'll let you know later if I think I can handle it."

Xavier's grin widened and he ruffled his old friend's hair as a silent praise for her putting aside her pride for even a little while. He looked almost proud of himself. "Talk like that more often. You'll find it's easier to make friends that way." His voice was half-jokey, half-patronizing, and fully annoying.

"No promises." The idol snapped and directed her cloud out of the bathroom and back to her own, where she lay herself gingerly into the bed. If she rested enough, then perhaps by nightfall, she'd be ready.

They were a circle, tight knit, unable to be separated. Yui was a line, one dimensional, awkwardly off to the side as they joked with one another, comfortable enough around each other. Yui had thought she was delicate, but truly, it Aria. Especially her heart. It was like glass, ready to shatter at the smallest shudder. Therefore, she built walls; she protected herself by wearing armor that pushed people away. Xavier wasn't put off by this in the least bit. He seemed to find the chinks, squeezing in to reach the glass heart. Like Cinderella's slipper, a frail beauty. This fairy tail didn't include Yui and she could tell as much from the outside. Xavier, the handsome prince, Damian, the King, watching over them all with concern, and Aria, Cinderella.

If Yui had to write herself into the story she would have probably been a mouse, one of the pathetic little creatures Cinderella saved. Caged by darkness, the trap was lifted free to reveal the light and with it, the three main characters of the story. Yui blinked, realizing another argument had started. She had heard her name and turned her head towards Damian, who was arguing with Aria. Nothing though, this was of no substance.

When Yui stood this time, no one stopped her. She got out of the tub, reaching back in to drain it. Damian had seen the flashback, he held the information, but for some reason, Yui didn't want to hear it. She was scared that he would reveal something about her past that had been horrible. For arguments sake, if Yui had to have a story written about her, it would certainly be a tragedy. "I'm gonna go change," Yui indicated to her torn clothes. Damian and Xavier stepped out of the bathroom and out of her room, shutting the door behind them. Yui stripped off the clothes that clung to her, heavy with water. She tossed them into the bin, peeling off her wet underwear and throwing it into the laundry.

She went through the boxes, the carpet making indentations on her knees as she rifled through, looking for clothes that weren't so flashy. She reached the hooded shirt Aria had given her. Yui pulled it on over her head, the fuzzy inside of the shirt feeling soft against her skin. She nuzzled the neck of it, satisfied. Pants were a bit harder to acquire since Ari's old clothes mostly consisted of cute dresses. Yui would never wear such things though. For some reason, wearing dresses made her feel exposed, as though she weren't fully protected.

Yui pulled the sweatshirt off, taking out one of the dresses and sliding it on over her head. It clung to her body at the top, as though desperate for something to hold onto. The bottom flared, fake butterfly wings attached on the back and a little hat to go with it. It was big, but all of her clothes were. She twirled in the mirror, the dress suddenly lighting up. Yui jumped back, startled, then went to her mirror to observe in closer detail. The lights refracted against the reflection, almost making her room look like a disco. Yui turned off the lights to admire the dress further, giggling. She turned the lights back on and grabbed out a different dress.

They had until nighttime after all, there was plenty time for shenanigans.

Meanwhile, Xavier and Damian were talking. Damian had told Xavier what he saw and the older boy was clearly concerned. Yui's brother was MIA, a piece of a puzzle they hadn't accounted for. Had he escaped too? Was he in a coma somewhere? Was he looking for Yui?

The idol wasn't sure if she was glad that Yui seemed to be enjoying the videos of her performing, or if she was horribly embarrassed. Her cheeks flushed red as Xavier gave her the news and the chuckle. Was it really that remarkable that Aria had a nice side? Why did everyone have to make such a big deal out of it, anyways? It was beyond ridiculous! Aria let out a hmpf as Xavier turned to leave, but suddenly had a change of heart.

"Hey, wait. Come back." The idol beckoned with a slight frown. "It's been a long time since we talked, just the two of us. Or if you're too busy, it's not like I really care or anyth-"

For some reason, Xavier seemed extra happy to hear that and he immediately turned around and reentered the room, a boyish smirk on his face. He walked over to Aria's side, stopped her words in its tracks. "Don't lie, I know you care. That's why you stopped me, silly."

"Shut up." The singer growled, turning her head. She instantly regretted everything. Why did he always have to find the holes in the walls she built up? Why couldn't he just - oh whatever, it wasn't worth fretting about anymore. It was too late. What an idiotic situation. "...How's your family, anyways? Are they okay?"

Xavier's expression turned serious and he nodded.

"Yeah." He said slowly. "They didn't find out. Ari... they're still asking about you. Ever since that day years ago - they're still worrying about you. You were like a daughter to them. When we were kids, you slept over so many times, you're practically a part of the family."

They definitely had a lot of memories together. Her own family was fractured from the beginning, so it felt like a relief every time she dragged Mizuki over to Xavier's house for a night, just to experience what it was like to have a loving mother, and a doting father. It was something the girls had never really felt very often in their own home, if at all. Painful emotions welled up but only for an instant. Xavier noticed it within a second.

"Don't make that face." The leader said gently. "Once this is all over, we can eat my mother's cooking just like in the old days. That's something to look forward to, isn't it?"

What was the point? Aria didn't plan on living, anyways. The girl she was back then, brimming with naive idealism, and the woman she was now, full of unforgivable sins - she was different now. They probably wouldn't even recognize her anymore. Heck, sometimes she wondered if her friends at the Freedom Fighters HQ even recognized her. She was the one different from the others after all. No one else killed enemies for fun, rather than out of necessity. None of the others enjoyed murder quite like she did. She still wasn't convinced she fit in.

"They didn't really care." Aria insisted stubbornly. "They didn't help me when I was being whipped."

But Xavier was still her oldest friend. Seeing his face fall, she knew she had to say something nice.

"....Thanks for telling me that I mattered." The idol murmured. "I think I needed it, Xavier."

He cracked his usual grin. "I'll say it as much as you need. We can't do it without you." His face turned more serious again, graver. "Hey, about Yui. Damian and I were discussing it. I figured you should know."

She nodded, silent, as a gesture for him to continue.

"Yui had a brother." Xavier explained grimly.

He waited to gauge Aria's reaction. She visibly stiffened, eyes widening. It was ironic - she and Yui did discuss this not too long ago, after all. That day when she got her arm broken, and Yui had her first flashback, Aria said it was a possibility. She didn't know whether to laugh or wince. "Yeah, she seems like the sister type." Aria said in a neutral tone. "From your face, I'm guessing he's MIA, or dead, right?" The dancer let out a groan and concern bloomed in her for the mermaid. "Damn. I even got her hopes up that she had a sibling looking out for her...."

Xavier scratched at his hair, frowning. "Damian's running searches and data-mines right now, but isn't coming up with a single clue. Whatever info there is, it's well hidden." He looked almost angry. "Ari, if there's a chance he's out there, we have to get him. He might be what we need to unlock the rest of her memories."

Aria wasn't pleased that they were still trying to dig into Yui's head, but Xavier probably had a bigger goal in mind in the works. So, she shrugged. "Okay." She rolled her eyes tiredly. "Once I'm healed up, I'll go fuck a bunch of people in Shoku's administration to try and get some clues."

"That's not what I meant, Ari."

The idol smirked with malice. "Just be happy I bothered to inform you this time, got it?"

The leader sighed and left the room without another word.

The tape stopped. It was over, static playing out on the screen. Yui wanted to watch it again, but she had no idea how the camera worked and the first button she pressed made the screen go black. The female got up from the floor, taking the dress off and folding it neatly before replacing it back into the box.

A shattered dream.

It was sad really, what these boxes represented. They were fill of hopes and dreams for the future, a life spent in what could have been a different world completely. Aria's career as an idol was over. She was a fallen star, exploding into a super nova before fading completely. Not from existence, no; no energy ever disappeared nor was it simply created. Matter was much more complex than that. It was redirected, creating a different person entirely. Rising from the ashes and dust of the burst, Aria became an entirely different creature, different from the normal light bearer. She was light haunted by darkness. Grey, in between, neither one nor the other.

It was different and it was scary and it was.... breathtaking.

To have the power and drive to take what you want rather then sitting around, having it being handed to you. That was what being a light bearer was really about. To have the determination to see something wrong and make that change. Yui looked at her hands, clean, soft skin. She had no idea whether her hands were bloodstained, whether her light bearer mark ever could have been infused in darkness.

When Yui thought of her past, she saw nothing, a blank emptiness that weighed heavily on her heart. It wasn't starch white and pure like one would imagine though. No, the thought of her past was haunted by images of red. Not the beautiful red of roses or the heart pillows covered in velvet cloth. It was the red of blood, or crimson really, dripping against a harsh background that seemed to be screaming. It drowned her mind in voices, clouding her thoughts, overshadowing her vision, shaking Yui to her very core.

And she would yell at them to stop.

And there would be silence.

The silence was no more comforting though. It echoed with thoughts of what should be there, but nothing that Yui could recognize or make out. She pressed a button the recorder, the tape began playing backwards, everything moving in reverse. She played the tape, the singer bouncing around on the stage in smooth succession, her smiles as dazzling as the sun.

"I want to be that vibrant," Yui whispered. Dazzling like the stars, the sun, so bright it blinded everyone who watched. Was that how Aria had felt? Yui looked at her hand wrapped in bandages, she would never be a star. The only thing Yui knew how to do was be a monster.

Aria had a strange feeling. She'd simply been laying in bed, humming a benign tune for the past half hour, doing her best to occupy herself in a way that didn't involve physical activity. She wanted to launch the rescue mission as soon as she could, after all. The idol, suddenly growing determined, decided to try and think up potential targets for her information gathering, once she was in fit condition again. Which members of the Shoku Administration could be easily swayed into spilling their secrets? Who'd be likely to accept bribes?

It was more difficult to set up an information network now that Fox was gone. Moreover, Aria wouldn't be surprised if she made an enemy out of the HIVE. It was almost a good thing that there were three sides to this war. Shoku's Administration was the strongest and most dominant - they held almost all of the power. After than was the HIVE, a crime syndicate that no one knew how deep it ran. Heck, Aria didn't have the slightest clue who the leader even was, they were that shrouded in mystery. The idol let her mind drift...

"I'm a Light Bearer, Fox. One of the best." Aria said in one of her meetings with the mole. He was secretly working on conjunction with the Freedom Fighters - Aria wouldn't have had half of the info she did if it wasn't for his help. They had a nice, amicable partnership that she cherished. Many times she'd share her more intimate thoughts with him that she couldn't tell anyone else. "Light Bearers are meant to bring light to the world. The others, they fit it perfectly. But I can't help but feel... like I'm different. I don't really fit in."

"What do you mean?" Fox asked, sounding concerned. It wasn't the first time they talked about it and it wouldn't be the last. "Do they say anything about it?"

The idol shook her head with a tired, anguished sigh. The two were in Foxhound's apartment - it looked relatively average, and anyone who didn't know him would never think he was a part of the HIVE. Magazines, a few pictures of the past, even a well watered potted plant. Foxhound's place looked incredibly unassuming. And Aria couldn't even guess at his real identity.

"No. They seem... relaxed. As if they're having fun." Aria stared intently in front of her, as if she were in a trance. "I don't get it. How can they just screw around? This is a serious thing - it's a war! Why aren't they more like me?"

Foxhound shrugged and patted her shoulder gently, using warm tones. "Maybe they wonder why you aren't more like them?"

"I'm fundamentally different from them." The singer explained solemnly. "I couldn't care less about the lives we take on the path to victory. I don't care about the cost. I'm not really... light at all, you know what I mean?"

Fox's eyes were wide and sympathetic. He soothed the younger girl with a back-rub and then wrapped her up in a blanket. "Don't worry about our session. You're upset, and doing our usual would only make it worse." Aria nodded blankly at him, staring pitifully at the floor. "Do you feel like you belong there?"

"No. I don't belong at all."

She could pretend - heck, she could even stay in the house with them. It didn't change the truth. Aria frowned pensively at the mark on her left hand. It was a beautiful flower - a spider lily. She researched it earlier, and it certainly had a strange meaning. Perhaps she was starting to realize what it really symbolized. An eternal parting; two friends who would part ways and never again see each other for as long as time existed. The idol committed it to memory.

It was around dinner time. Damian and Aria were at the table as Xavier went to gather Yui. The two sat in silence, neither willing to eat without waiting for the others. The idol kept a blank expression on her face because she knew very well that Damian could enter her mind whenever he wanted. It'd be child's play for him to figure out her real feelings.

"You're being pretty guarded today." His voice rang in her head as it always did. "What are you thinking of, Ari?"

Aria immediately shoved the image of Yui naked into her head, causing Damian to recoil violently. She still remembered that day when Yui accidentally bared everything. A mischievous smile danced on the singer's face as she played with the fork, waiting to stab into the food. "No dirty thoughts at the table now, Damian." She chided in a mocking way, making the telepath's face only grow redder.

Aria gave the bandage on Yui's hand a stare. It was easy to forget that Yui had also sustained a wound from that one practice fight, given the idol's own injury. She internally shook her head - she really had been taken completely by surprise by the bloody cage. If she had use of both of her arms, maybe she could've won that mock fight, but for what end? It didn't change the fact that Yui was still mostly green in terms of combat. She bested the huntress at her own game, without the experience to back it up. Who knows how strong Yui would be later? Damian shot Aria a sharp glance, and the idol merely smiled in response. This time it was more like an elder sister's curiosity than any kind of jealousy. With practice, how high could Yui soar? Aria was excited to find out.

The singer decidedly ignored the other three as they talked about the omurice. Instead Aria stared intently as she grabbed a ketchup bottle, thinking of what to put. She then first did a few strokes and made out with the character for "moon". Beside it, in the bottom half of the second slot she put the character for "power". She stared a little more, trying to remember the third radical to put above "fire". Finally, Ari shrugged and scribbled it in, deciding it didn't really matter, resulting in the kanji for victory. The girl stared at her artwork with a wry grin on her face and somehow flipped the ketchup back to its rightful position with her one hand.

"Did you enjoy the songs, Yui?" Aria asked lazily, stabbing into her food and messing up the character she worked so hard to make. "Could teach you to sing'em if you wanted. Though I guess it's pretty meaningless."

"She can probably sing a hell of a lot better than you." Xavier smirked, giving Aria an aside glance. The jab in the side with a cast only made him laugh harder and he clapped the mermaid on the back amicably. "C'mon, a cranky person like you absolutely can't sing!"

Oh? Was it a challenge? Aria stared down the leader, completely ignoring the fact that Damian was now trying to say something. Xavier and Ari shot daggers at one another, both grinning fiercely at one another.

"Cranky? Aria hissed, nerves crackling. "I heard that right, didn't I?"

"Oh hell yeah." Xavier jeered, sticking his tongue out and making a face. "You're always yelling this, shouting that, I bet you couldn't even be a pop idol if you tried!"

If Damian or Yui were trying to say something, it was being drowned out by Xavier and Aria's sudden explosion of competitive energy. The ex-idol glowered and jabbed hard into her food, cracking the plate completely by accident. Xavier stared at the plate and it only made his raucous laughter grow in tempo. Feeling a nerve pop in her forehead, the idol let out a low, threatening growl. Food was all but forgotten.

"I had millions of fans!" Aria exclaimed. "You don't know how many leaked nudes of me there are on the net!"

Xavier had a pleased expression. "Oh, come off it, Ari." He waved it off with practiced ease, accidentally nudging his plate onto the floor without a care. "Any hot girl could upload her pics, we know it was you." And just like that, the two friends started shouting at each other at a machine gun's pace.

"They even sold body pillow molds of me!"

"Hah, for the lonely and desperate, huh?"

"You have one in your room, you idiot!"

"One of my guy friends gave it to me as a prank. The weird one with the funky hair."

"Ew, god, him? Seriously? He was one of my fans?"

"He also bought one of those undress-able dolls..."

"Ugh, what the hell? Why didn't you tell me this sooner?"

"Oh, I did. You broke my nose and then bashed your head until you could forget it ever happened."

"...Oh."

There was a very brief moment of peace. Xavier then smiled wider. "I bet you're still a shitty singer."

Okay, Aria had enough. She shot Xavier a glare of deepest hatred and started to sing. It was a quick, catchy tune that reverberated off the walls. Damian seemed to have given up saying whatever it was he wanted to and Xavier was openly tapping his finger to make a beat. The words flew out like a river that she almost forgot - familiar tides and ripples flowing from her throat with a strange sense of comfort to them. The song was, oddly enough, about being optimistic and always looking for the silver lining in the darkest of times - something completely contrary to her usual mindset. Finally she saw a cocky smirk on Xavier's face as he nudged the mermaid.

"Now you owe me, Yui." He laughed. "I just earned you a free live performance."

Just like that, Aria stopped singing, glaring at her best friend and worst enemy. "Xavier. I am going to fucking kill you."

Then Damian coughed, looking slightly miffed. Everything went silent as Xavier and Ari turned to stare at him, as if surprised he was even still there. The telepath cleared his throat and then spoke in tones of forced calm. "I was monitoring HIVE movements, and I predict they're going to do a raid on one of Shoku's military bases in the Shinjuku District tomorrow night. We could coordinate the attack on the work camp then to divide Shoku's forces, and to give Ari a little more time to recuperate. Thoughts?"

Xavier blinked for a few seconds, processing the new information. Then he set down with a serious expression, elbows in the fallen omurice on his table. "Yes, that's a good plan." He declared. "We attack tomorrow night!"

Aria was powerless to do anything but stare with confused and perplexed eyes at Yui, wondering what exactly just happened and if she should feel angry or not. She opened her mouth to say something, blinked, then realized that some things are best not to be thought about.

Yui had just wanted to enjoy eating her omurice in a nice, quiet setting. She was happily munching, Damian's cooking was stellar, as per usual. Yui didn't even think about the possibility of a fight until there was one. She looked up, her mouth full of food, at Xavier and Aria yelling back and forth at one another. She swallowed. "What's a body pillow?" Yui asked Damian who slapped his forehead in reply. Clearly this dinner wasn't going as planned. It was lively though, so Yui didn't mind.

Plates cracked, words flew, finally, Aria settled on singing. Xavier sat back down, a smug look on his face, one that said he clearly won. Aria's face was as read as ketchup, she stood up, giving them an impromptu concert. Yui's food was forgotten, her eyes were wide, sparkling with awe. Her voice was like ocean waves, lapping gently against the sand. A calming sound that nearly had a hypnotic effect. The room was silent aside from the warble of Aria's melodious tune. Yui felt almost sleepy, like a lullaby a mother would sing to put their child to sleep. When it was over, Yui clapped. Xavier seemed to take note and did as well, saying that he had just gotten Yui a free concert.

"You're really good." Yui said softly; although that wasn't anything Aria didn't already know. The singer had so much confidence, she strut around like she was the boss, hips swaying, words sharp, always dangerous, always poised. Could Yui possibly have any talent? She looked at the plate of omurice. Damian's talent was cooking, Xavier's was leading, Aria's was singing. Where did she fit in?

Damian spoke up, he was clearly put off by their antics, but sighed, smiling gently. They postponed the attack further, targeting the camp, then HIVE. It gave Aria more time to rest, put them less at risk, it also meant that it gave the camp more time to prepare though. They had no idea when the Freedom Fighters were going to strike. In a way, it almost gave them the upper hand.

Yui finished her dinner, drinking her cup of milk, chocolate, as always. Milk was the way to build muscle and bone density, so she drank a lot of it. It also tasted much better than the stagnant water that came from the tap. "I'm done," Yui stood and went upstairs to go to bed. She wasn't tired per say, more anxious than anything.

~~~~~~~~
The next morning came far too quickly. It felt as though she had little time to sleep. The base was abuzz with action. There were others there, other Freedom Fighters had come. The Doctor was on standby, the Freedom Fighters guarding HQ while they would be out on attack. They also had people coming to take the refugees in busloads to the hiding spot Xavier had spoken of.
When morning broke, Aria was among the first awake. Perhaps that extra time was all she needed - she was still injured of course, but the girl felt as if she had much more energy than before. She felt like she was ready to fight. Even better was that they'd get to fight at night, which was even funner and it gave her an extra chunk of time to recuperate. Aria was excited. She was restless, constantly on the move, helping Xavier organize everything, conjuring a large illusioned image of the camp's map and drawing battle plans for everyone to follow. It was rather complex but at the core, Yui would be working with a few others at evacuating the campers while Mira and Xavier lead the primary attack team, with Damian at the rear, keeping everyone organized and coordinated.
It took a few hours to get everyone up to speed, and Aria's throat was parched after talking for what felt like an eternity. All in all, there would be four teams: Xavier leading the attack, Yui helping coordinate the escape, another team actually transporting everyone to Xavier's refuge (thank god for Lauren's mass teleportation abilities), and Javon from Hokkaido would be in charge of guarding the HQ. Damian would also be there, keeping tabs on everyone and more or less masterminding the entire plan with his telepathy. Aria then limped her way to the mermaid and pulled her aside, figuring the girl might be overwhelmed.
"Hey." Aria said, after taking her into a more secluded area. "You see the girl with the purple pigtails? That's Emmy - she can make shields and barriers. You'll be working with her and her team from Sterling City to protect the campers and get them out. You can handle it, right?" Aria looked at the younger girl with a fond smile. "I know I haven't been the best person, but I really am glad you're here. Let's be friends for a long time, okay?"
Aria dug into her shirt pocket, taking out the picture of Mizuki Fox had given her, shoving it into Yui's hands and closing it tenderly. Her crimson-contacts eyes glimmered as she stared into Yui's sapphire orbs. "That's... Mizuki. My sister." Aria said, voice low and full of emotion. "If you see her, tell Lauren..." Aria paused, and pointed at the teleporter from New Osaka chatting to Xavier with a flirtatious grin. "Her. Tell her to take Mizuki back here. Also, um..." The idol frowned a little. "Let her know I'll see her soon. Can you do that for me?"
Aria took another glance at Xavier and Lauren's mutual flirting and sighed. "...Idiot." She shrugged. "Well, I guess it'd be good for Xavier if they did start dating. It'd probably make him happy, right?"
The ex-idol stared at the mermaid again and silently passed another chocolate bar to her.
From the moment Yui had awoken, the house was hopping. She got dressed quickly, poking her head out the door to see all of the other Light Bearer's. They were all here, united in the cause to liberate the oppressed. Today the Freedom Fighters would finally prove how big of a threat they were. Their faces would be wanted, they would never be able to go home again. All for the sake of freedom. It was heart warming really, if Yui didn't know any better, she'd think that this was what being a Freedom Fighter was all about.
The girl had spent the day as a runner, running messages back and forth between members. She had barely had time to eat or refresh her ena, Yui was so busy. It was good though, it kept Yui from thinking about the battle. When she finally had a break, Aria came over to speak to her. "Emmy," Yui committed it to memory. She looked at the picture in her hands, at the picture Aria was entrusting her with. It was a bit out of focus, but Yui could make out the details. She would memorize every inch of this photograph in order to find Aria's special person.
"Don't worry Ari, I'm definitely gonna protect her." Yui assured the older girl. The older girl looked back to where Xavier was talking to a female, both of them smiling. The girl giggled. Aria almost seemed jealous, but Yui knew better than to make a peep. Aria handed her a chocolate bar. "Thank you!" Yui chirped. She tore through the packaging, about to take a square when Damian made her stop. He took the bar from her and marched Yui to the kitchen where he had prepared dinner. "You can have this back once you've eaten." He handed Yui a plate but all of the chairs were taken. At the smell of food, a line formed in the kitchen and Yui sat on the floor to eat. Once she was done, she went to claim her chocolate bar, stealing it back from the counter when Damian wasn't looking and going to hide in her room to eat it.
Not an hour later Yui was staring at the large wall that served as the barrier to keep the humans locked up inside; caged like animals. The cold bit through her clothing despite the layers and her fingers felt stiff in her gloves. Any moment now the operation would start, the battle would begin, and the death count would rise.
