Hunter from District Twelve. Found the ruins of District Thirteen.
Jack can be sleeping one moment, at your throat the next, then your best friend a few seconds later. His mood depends on the situation: when calm, he is lazy; when hostile, he acts according; when solemn, he is silent. Normally, Jack acts like a ghost, trying to stay out of conversations that aren't his concern. As for the Games, his partner can live or die, probably die, but as long as District Twelve comes out with the win, it doesn't matter to him. Life has no meaning, everyone is a statistic, even him.
Jack can work with a variety of things, but normally chooses to work with a small knife to use the world around him. Bows, spears, staves, anything that can be made from carving wood is under his skill level. For reasons known only to his mother, he has a very uncanny skill in using a scythe.
Jack was born in the Seam, and stayed there most of his first ten years. His father didn't exist in his world, only his mother. When she had Jack, she was only sixteen. The following year, she was chosen for the Hunger Games. She survived, and came back with her mind deadset on one thing: make her son able to survive anything the Games could throw at them. She only told him one thing, and only taught him one skill. She told him to never back down in the face of mercy or the absence of it, and taught him to use a scythe like an extension of his arm. Apparently, it is the most useful weapon for an agile fighter possible. However, she made a fool of the Capitol, so there was an 'accident' nine years later when she declared the Games 'pointlessly brutal'. She did not survive.
Jack ran away when word reached that she no longer breathed and was lost for a month in the wilderness. When he came back, no one recognized him. He'd changed from a mama's boy to a calculating, heartless monster of a thing. Since then, he's only spent half of his time in the city. He only comes back to watch for the Hunger Games and the participants. When he turned twelve, Jack placed his name in the runnings five more times than needed. Every year since then, it's been the same, but not once has he been picked. Finally, he decided to volunteer.
