Anko is the last surviving member of a clan of swordsmen who prtected the fabled 'Silver Sands', A vast desert of sparkling sand said to contain magical property and grant eternal youth to those who carried it on them.
As the legend goes, in the center of the Silver Sands lies a veritable Eden in which the guardians of the Desert called home. There they used the Sand to forge powerful weapons and armor to defend the magical sand from those who would seek it to do harm. It was then they created the most powerful weapon the village had ever known, The Saiken, a sword so powerful it could cut a sandstrom in two with a single swing. Within this sword the very will of the desert was placed. With this sword the Swordsmen of the village could use the very silver sand they guarded so dearly as their greatest weapon.
However, even within the hearts of those sworn to defend, dark ambition grows and the thirst for power can never be sated. The Emperor's Captain, Sosuke Kikyo, grew spiteful towards his leader, feeling that he could weild the sword better and lead the clan into a glorious age. So it was, that the war within the clan began, brother against brother, Father against Son. The battle lasted for ten days and nights.
As the sun rose of the eleventh day, the glorious city in the sand was reduced to nothing but a smoldering ruined that would soon be claimed by the sand it so diligently defended.
"But that was in a time before our Age little one" The Old woman said closing thing the book and smiling to her granddaughter.
"But what about the sword Gramma?!" The young girl of twelve said, looking up with inspired eyes.
The Old woman chuckled "No one really knows, perhaps it still stands, in the center of the desert, waiting for someone who holds within them the will of the desert to grasp it's hilt once again"
The Girl sat in awe for a moment, mesmirized by the tale she had heard "Gramma?.......... Do the Silver Sands exist?" she asked in a hopeful voice
"Ohohohoho" Laughed the old woman "Tis but a legend child" she said standing up and walking towards the door and blowing out the candles.
The girl let out a disappointed sigh and snuggled into her blankets. "Though you know......" Came her Grandmother's voice
"Legends have to begin somewhere"
