Christopher Maxey coughed and hastily let go when she drew attention to his hand on her person. "Oh, uh, sorry; thought it might keep that creepy guy away. I dunno... he looked really rapey to me. Hell, he probably wanted to stick it in the pair of us what with all that posturing." He rubbed his face. "And I really, really could do with some normal."

He flashed her a thin smile. "And, I, it sounds like some sort of Muslim thing, like, terrorists and things. I mean, uh," He back-peddled rapidly. "Not that I think they're all terrorists or anything, uh... just... shit."

"Uh... no, no I guess I'm not. I'd blame it on the lack of coffee and food but- yeah. It's just me. I'm an utter failure at this sort of thing, like, all of the time." He flashed her an embarrassed smile, rubbing his face.

"So, uh... I actually thought, seeing as it was Gambit's that he'd kind of do us in."

Christopher Maxey looked even more embarrassed at that question, not sure if he even wanted to answer. But- he tried to smile at her- lying was hardly going to make it any better. "Uh, well. I was at college, and I was actually doing the whole Oxbridge thing, but yeah- went a bit tits up."

Tits up didn't even begin to cover it. "So... what do you study?"

Christopher Maxey wasn't quite sure what to do with his hands all of a sudden, and he checked his watch anxiously; still running, and forwards at that. "I- had a bit of a thing at home. A sort of me related thing that I wasn't quite sure how to- uh, y'know... get around."

Chris flashed her a nervous smile. "But I was studying Biology and Chemistry at College... with the whole Physics, Maths and Critical Thinking package on the side. Can't say I was the most fantastic ever at Crit; seemed a bit pointless to me, but I was getting the grades."

Christopher Maxey shook his head. "I'm eighteen, just about, and no, I don't have a job. I've tried and everything, but nobody really wants to employ me." He had no money and nowhere to live other than the bar, which sucked, but he wasn't actually one to moan about it outside of his own head.

Christopher Maxey ran his hands through his hair, mourning the lack of dye and gel; he was woefully ginger again and looking more and more like a woman with every passing second given that his hair was now down to his shoulders. He needed it cut, but given all the stabby looking people in Gambit's, he'd been rather put off. And his last hair band had turned into an onion ring, which he'd eaten and later sorely regretted.

"I have less than no money right now, and I dunno... I'm not really sure what to do with myself these days. I certainly can't afford to go back to college." He wasn't even sure how to be homeless right; he laughed at himself for a moment before shaking his head.

Christopher Maxey smiled thinly. "Yeah, that'd be great, and, well... the whole money situation is a bit more dire than paying for exams will allow. I was really close to graduating too, which sucked; I even took half of the exams, but I'm still boned because my grades went to hell in the last term before I dropped it. There was just- a lot going on."

He shrugged, sucking in the coffee-rich atmosphere with a happy sigh. He had missed this terribly. "I deal, y'know? And I'll find work in the end, sort myself out."

A nerve she has most certainly hit, but Chris just shrugged, picking a seat in the most comfortable area he could find. He had all of six pounds fifty in a bank account and a passport to his name at the moment, which really sucked.

"My parents and me aren't getting on so well right now, so I can't really ask them for help. But it's fine; I'm sorting it all out right now. I'll have it down soon enough." That was a lie, but he could dream.

Christopher Maxey watched her, having no idea at all what she was talking about but- she was company and it was nice to have someone to talk to that didn't want to kill him, stab him, shag him in the seriously not-cool manner or throw a drink at him.

"Uh..." Did he tell her or not...? He actually quite liked her, and didn't want her to get weird about it. "It's sort of a- um, mutant like issue."

"Like, well... some odd stuff started happening and it wasn't really something that I could stop and it just sort of kept getting worse and-" He shrugged. "I dunno. Mutants- my parents were really anti before they realised that I was, like, one. And then- I dunno. They just weren't the same. I kind of bailed out on them."

He suddenly realised that he was missing something quite important there. "I'm not dangerous! I don't hurt people. I don't even do anything cool; it's all just rubbishy little things like my teeth turning pink and my hair band turning into an onion ring."

Christopher Maxey actually smiled, though part of him was insanely jealous that she had a cooler power than him. If his could even be classified as a power... "I think I have some evil karma power on the go. My watch stops, or starts going backwards, so does every clock around me, and then- bam! My teeth are pink, my wallet is a moustrap for all of five seconds so that when I pull it back out of my pocket it's just a wallet snapped shut on my stinging fingers. My fruit juice turned into what smelled and tasted like perfume, my hair conditioner turned into hair dye! And all of it turned back before I really got the chance to show anyone what was happening."

He pulled a face. "I bet it sounds kind of funny, and I guess it sort of is, but when your computer frizzes out because your tower turned to jelly for seven seconds and fried it all and- I dunno. It makes life kind of hard and it's not like I've had any luck making it stop."

Christopher Maxey grinned a little at his own expense, because had actually found someone who got what it was like. "It- well, I guess it is sort of funny. I mean, my hair was green for three weeks, and my phone wallpaper swapped from a nerdy Pythag thing (don't judge me!) to a photo of someone's dick (seriously, don't judge me, not my fault), my clothes all vanished once as well... and they didn't reappear either, which was mean."

He really needed to stop talking, and yet- he grinned. "It's embarrassing and really annoying sometimes."

It was nice to just spend time with someone who he could have a laugh with, especially when there was coffee involved as well! This day was going well, really really well, and for fear jinxing it... nothing crazy had happened yet.

"I dunno whose it was, but- man, eww. I didn't need to see that shit. I mean, god! I did that whole locker room thing, but- gah! No no no! Not on my fucking phone, man!" He pulled a face. "And I think you've nailed the situation when it comes to my mutated bad luck. The weirdest shit happens to me."

Christopher Maxey slipped quietly into the almost-empty room, trying to look as though he hadn't been waiting for everyone to leave before entering. It didn't work; he was too tired and too worn down to pull off anything close to casual. The strain was beginning to show in the tatty, worn down look of his clothes and the way his hair fell in long, unwashed rats-tails around his ears.

He took up space beside the fire, curling right down into an armchair in an attempt to chase away the cold.

Christopher Maxey had fallen asleep despite himself moments after sitting down, and laid sprawled with his head pillowed on the arm of the chair, knees tucked up to his chest. Despite the constant danger, it was easy to sleep when he was so tired, even in Gambit's Bar. People tended to stay away. He liked to blame what he was, rather than the red jacket that he wore, now tucked under his head as a makeshift pillow. He had laughed, somewhat hysterically, earlier in the day; he was ignoring The Big Issue, even when selling it.

He was tired enough not to startle when someone touched him, rising instead with a groggy groan. "Sorry..." he mumbled, uncurling from his seat but not getting up for the moment. "I'll move on."

Christopher Maxey knew charity when he saw it and hated it, but he was hungry and he hadn't got enough money for food if he wanted somewhere to stay tonight. It was cold outside, and his coat didn't help; it was old, and even a brand new coat wouldn't have been all that good. It was a common misconception (one that he had shared with the rest of the world) that a good coat could make sleeping outside bearable. His mind was wandering...

"I'm hungry, yeah," he finally said, wondering what was wrong with him; he normally knew how to speak, he was normally more than willing to. Maybe it had been too long since he'd had someone 'normal' to talk to, maybe he was just tired. Maybe it was harder talking to someone when his little red vest was tucked under his elbow...

Michael was easy to talk to, even when he was high, or itching for a fix, because they were the same. There was no pity, no charity, only conversation. Edward was the same, when he wasn't fast asleep or playing the guitar so loudly that Chris struggled to think.

Christopher Maxey would have hated being talked to like he was a child (eighteen; six months ago he had been so excited to finally have ID) but it was difficult to summon the energy to care. Maybe he was coming down with something, maybe he was just tired... there were an awful lot of maybes in his life all of a sudden, and he didn't like the certainties half as much as he used to.

"Anything. I'll eat anything. Thanks." Awkward, stilted... for some reason he couldn't find the right words, couldn't quite drag himself awake enough to enter the conversation with any real enthusiasm. It made him feel strange, but he had been feeling strange all day. "Oh." He'd forgotten the rest of her words. "Chris. M'Chris."

Christopher Maxey had fallen asleep in the chair beside the fire, this time half falling out of his seat. He didn't seem bothered by the clearly uncomfortable angle, and he hadn't paid any mind to the woman's argument with the interface. He had tried to, at first, but he was so tired.

The fact that the bar was starting to fill up again was lost on Chris, who began to snore lightly, looking rather tramp-like and unwashed, but probably harmless. Probably drunk, though that was an assumption over the truth.

Christopher Maxey woke at her touch, to remained more groggy and disoriented than before. He had always found it harder to wake up properly once he'd been asleep, and waking up after less than five minutes was physically painful. The promise of food was almost not enough; he wanted to go back to sleep so badly...

But there was food, and it was free; he was probably starving, though he felt faintly sick rather than hungry. Maybe he was so hungry that he felt sick... there was another of those bloody maybes again. He sighed, fisting his eyes with a grubby hand before reaching out to take the food. He was cautious, wary that she'd remove it again now that he'd made it clear that he wanted it.

"Thanks." He really wasn't sure what to say. What did you say to a stranger who got you a burger and treated you like a kid?
