Jason Cabella

ASCO hunter; skilled marksman

0 · 122 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by SylentStand, as played by ABMT

Description

Full Name: Jason Cabella
Sex: Male
Age: 24

Physical Appearance: Cabella is a tall, weedy man of no great physical strength. His head is smooth and round, shaved clean to better fit within all manner of protective headgear. His forgetably-dull green eyes have been blessed with 20/20 vision but also lend him an air of anonymity that he dislikes. He chooses to wear nondescript lightweight body armor over his torso in favor of quick flight and ease of movement. A tactical balaclava and several variations on camouflage pullovers afford him secrecy in the field.
Strengths:
-Skilled shot with scoped weapons
-Taciturn and efficient in combat
-Skilled tracker

Weaknesses:
-Too rigid in combat; unable to deviate smoothly from original plan
-Physically weak
-Does not trust his fellow ASCO members
-Confused and intimidated by the Supernatural

Personality

Personality
Jason is a man mired up to his neck in a drama that he does not fully understand. The existance and prevalence of the supernatural has shaken the logical marksman badly, skewing his preconceptions of 'Man vs Nature'. Now that he has learned the truth about dark creatures vying to destroy the living, he has fallen into an endless loop of soul-searching and denial that has rendered him sleepless and somewhat unstable. He badly wants to see his current path as just another job, but can't make ends meet in his mind.

Beneath the inner turmoil lies the heart of a veteran cop who just wants to do right by his moral code. Jason believes humility and patience to be cardinal virtues and exudes them in every aspect of his life. Rarely losing his temper, he strives to support his comrades with well-placed words and occasionally well-placed bullets. When he is tracking a target or operating alone in a dangerous area, he does tend to lose his nerve and psych himself out. He prefers to provide long-distance support through his rifle's mechanical eye than to confront his quarry face-to-face.

Equipment

Equipment
As a former SWAT sniper and designated marksman, Jason is most at home behind a scoped rifle. While known to take the company-sanctioned M14 rifle into the field, Jason prefers his heavily-personalized L96A1 sniper rifle. Nearly a third of his ASCO income is invested to keep the rifle firing, which may explain why he still does not own a car.

Forced to operate without a spotter, Cabella must rely on the electronic rangefinder in his advanced starlight scope; leveling the field with night-stalking predators. He also carries an antiquated ASP handgun as a sidearm.

History

History
Born in California's Santa Clara county, Jason has lived in the western United States for the majority of his life. After graduating high school, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department looking to make it big and enjoy his career along the way. He soon applied for and was accepted into LAPD SWAT. As a member of team, he saw more action than typical over his two years served, and decided he'd had his fill of killing. He left the team to become a member of the LAPD's traveling competition shooting team, training other agencies in marksmanship and winning many awards for precision shooting.

Fulfilling as it was, it couldn't last. An accident on the range left him unable to clench his right hand. Reparative surgery was deemed too costly, and he reluctantly left the force on pension. Undeterred, he began to practice shooting with his left hand. The results were dismal. It seemed that his law-enforcement career was over: indeed, even his skill with a rifle was worthless, remembered only in plaques on his mantle. But just as the reality was beginning to sink in, a courier showed up with an intriguing offer. If Jason would agree to join a team of 'law-enforcement and military professionals' to do some 'consulting work' for a firm, they would be willing to have his hand repaired and offer competitive pay to his former career. There was literally no viable alternative, and the offer was too sweet to turn down. Jason Cabella joined ASCO as a sniper and trainee Hunter.

Jason Cabella 's eyes crinkled up in interest at the new dissipating heat signature that swirled about the bar: Some kind of explosive, perhaps? No, the patrons weren't responding in a matter consistent with those pierced by red-hot shrapnel. In fact, most weren't responding at all. Smoke-bomb usage, as he began to recognize the signature, must have been fairly commonplace in this establishment.

Cabella refocused his matte Northrop-Grumman scope on the newcomer.

Jason Cabella tightened his lips in bemusement. He watched in pervasive detail as the man took some kind of beverage from his jacket and put it to his mouth. The cooler blue juice slid out of sight as it was ingested and rapidly warmed to the newcomer's body heat. The man was harmless enough; no vampiric traits, no swirling EM clouds about him to signal the supernatural whatsoever. Another boring regular, and not a target.

Cabella sighed and put up his rifle. Business was slow tonight.

Jason Cabella lost sight of the smoke-bomb thrower as he walked away from the open window. The sniper frowned and wondered if he'd have to displace to another apartment. He stared at the naked rebar before him, willing it to become translucent, but it didn't, of course. Without the benefit of this vantage point, his quarry could slip in and out without a trace. It was time to move on to the bar proper where he could keep an eye on things.

He wrapped his rifle up in tattered cloth and tucked it under a splintered and mothballed couch in the corner of the derelict apartment that made his perch. Five minutes later, he slunk into the bar minus his rifle and body armor.

instinctively glanced away from the man who had adressed him, hiding his face in artificial shadow brought on by the blinding stage lights and the brim of his baseball cap.

"An assassin? No, that isn't my line of trade. Wanton killing is against the law here." He weighed his words carefully, unsure of how to approach the feckless man.

's eyes flicked around the bar. Had he been compromised in some way? This man was either intentionally leading him on, or was simply an astonishingly bad businessman, but such assumptions had a tendency to leave one dead. He softly keyed the microphone in his pocket three times through the pocket of his jeans while scratching his light beard with the other.

"Sure mate, let's take a walk. Lead the way."

Jason Cabella followed the man into the room, heart pounding in his ears. Adrenaline: powering his muscles, speeding his reaction time, bracing him for what he knew he had to do. He shut the door behind him.

"Sorry" he grunted, before grabbing the man and spinning him into the wall. He quickly had a length of metal garrote around the hooded man's throat. He ignored the other man and his merlots. They would keep, perhaps he'd shoot the other man soon enough.

Jason Cabella Gasped in surprise as the man slipped from his arms like a living shadow. Not human, was all he could think, definitely not human!

An M911 was in his hand in an instant; blasting Cryoface's frosty visage with a metallic clack almost guaranteed to leave the icy warrior unconscious. Stammering into his radio, he placed a hasty request for support.

Jason Cabella saw the arrow in flight and his body twisted to avoid it even as he realized it was too late. He took the missile like a punch to the chest, knocking him down and rattling his teeth.

"Fuck!" he spat.

Even as he struggled to hands and knees, he could feel a curious chill creeping through his kevlar vest. It quickly became a stabbing pain that swirled about his body, lacing him with frost and stiffening his limbs. Jason's teeth chattered and he fought the urge to scream even as the pistol rose again in an infirm hand.

Jason Cabella canvassed the altercation with the all-seeing mechanical eye of his L96A1 rifle. He wanted badly to punch a full-jacket round into the demon's black heart, but he wasn't sure what imbalances might result of that action. Clearly there was some sort of link between Aimara and the loathesome figure. He hated the demon, all demons, with every ounce of his being; wanted to snuff his unholy life-force like he'd snuffed so many others. IF he was anything like Maelik...

"I've got your back, ma'am..." he whispered to his fellow hunter, knowing well enough that she couldn't hear him in her trancelike state. If it came to blows, she would not fight alone.

Jason Cabella regarded Chigaru coldly.

"Stay out of my head, hellspawn. I'm gonna put a slug in that tin-foil hat of yours if you so much as twitch! Get back to the pit!"

He leveled the rifle at the demon, meaning business, and at the same time cursing his inneptitude. He was in way over his head here, operating alone without support. Time to earn his salary by doing the job he lived for: killing the unholy.

"Down, sooka..." he muttered.
