a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by RolePlayGateway, as played by joco3899

Description

Full Name: Name: A'Kaiiyllen (translated: Bright Shadow)
Nickname: Kaii

===Human Form===
Height: 5'0”

Build: slim muscled build

Weight: 85lbs

Hair Color: black w/ blue-green sheen

Hair Style: long to middle of her back

Eye Color: Pale blue with additional slim circles of navy blue that occur first close to the pupil then half way from the first occurrence to the edge of the iris and finally the outer edge of the iris itself. (Note eyes in human and dragon form reflect light like a cat's)

Skin Color: light tan/peach

===Dragon Form===

Size:
*9'11” Tall from fore claw to top of head
*10' from shoulder to rump
*Wingspan: 20'
*Tail: 10'

Total length: 20' w/ tail included.

Weight: 350lbs

Build: Slender, streamlined, slim musculature.

Scale color: Blue with a green pearlescent sheen.

Horns: four spiral horns on the crown of the head, two start above the eye ridge bones and are each one foot in length and 3” inch in diameter. Two are further back and start above the ears, are 8” in length and a thicker 4” in diameter.

Horn Color: Ivory with a slight blue-green sheen.

Eye Color: Pale blue with additional slim circles of navy blue that occur first close to the pupil then half way from the first occurrence to the edge of the iris and finally the outer edge of the iris itself.

Additional Appearance Notes:
*paler underbelly and underwings
*five toed feet
**fore-feet have opposable β€œthumb” and β€œtoes” are elongated allowing full grip similar to human hand.
*eyes are like a cat's eyes in that they contain tapetum lucidum.
**The tapetum lucidum, located behind the retina, is composed of fifteen layers of special glittering cells of the substance guanine. The tapetum lucidum reflects any light that is not absorbed as light passes through the retina of the eye. The reflection by the tapetum lucidum allows the retina to absorb extra light, which aids the dragon's night vision. Another consequence of the tapetum lucidum is that it causes the dragon's eyes to shine in dim light, when the light hits the eyes at certain angles. (This occurs in both her human and dragon form)
*scales are titanium strong on the back, tail, and legs. Softer more pliant scales are found on the underside of the tail, neck, body, and legs.
*bones are extremely lightweight and hollow though incredibly strong, pliable, and resistant to damage.

==Abilities==
===Shapechanging===
Kaii can shape change. Her mass is displaced into the fourth dimension through magical means and maintained there until she changes back. Each form takes time to learn, so she cannot just look at something and become it. The closer to her original dragon form it is, the easier she will learn to change to it. Becoming a β€œhuman” took her over fifty years to master.
====Forms====
*Human (Girl)
*Ferret
**black fur/blue eyes

==Miscellaneous==
Kaii can sleep almost anywhere comfortably and fall asleep within seconds.
Kaii can eat massive amounts of food, including food that has been spoiled, without an upset stomach.
Kaii has very powerful jaws and dense strong teeth and has been known to accidentally eat objects that should not be eaten.
Kaii can see in low light conditions, very well.
Kaii has an advanced sense of smell and hearing.

==Limitations==
Kaii's only magic is shapeshifting.
Kaii's body would sell for a great deal on the black market (dragon's blood, dragon's bones, dragon's teeth, dragon's meat), but pretty much only if she was dead and cut into pieces, so she must pretend to be human.
Kaii is aerobically fit, but not very strong (due to her relative size in any form being very slender and small for that type of creature)
Kaii was raised in Faerie until just now, and though she was taught a lot about the current Human world, some of her knowledge is missing or out of date.

Personality

((I prefer that this comes through RP))

Equipment

Kaii owns nothing of value. She is generally seen wearing khaki short-shorts and a white tank top. She is almost always barefoot. The tank tops generally have cartoon pictures of dragons on them, which she finds amusing.

History

Her sire, Prethyvwythell Krrymaugroth (translated: Ancient's Promise), was a dragon of prophecy. Many great and daring tales among the fey speak of Preth and his children. Kaii was the unexpected child, an egg laid just prior to her mother's passing. The egg was not expected to survive but did somehow pull through. Unfortunately, Kaii was not gifted with magic beyond standard shapeshifting capabilities and also ended up much smaller and slighter than her kind. Dragons, though intelligent, are also vicious, territorial, and demanding. Kaii would not make it growing up without Preth to watch over her. Preth, a dragon in his final years, was not sure he had the strength or life remaining to continue to raise his final progeny. Eventually he sent her away from her kin, hoping she would find another existence and a life worth living.

So begins...

Despite the thin crust of snow that lay so thoroughly across the clearing, Kaii stood in barefooted bemusement as she watched a small herd of deer make their way deeper into the woods. Her eyes were half-slits as she pretended disinterest. Even from so far away, she could smell them... practically taste them.

A slight puff of air escaped her lips as she reminded herself, for perhaps the zillionth time, that she was not allowed to hunt live game. Her hands clenched and released within the pockets of her khaki shorts. Being forced to live by someone the rules of another being had a way of getting under her skin.

After the last of the deer had disappeared into the shadows, Kaii's shoulders slumped into her true casual manner. She wasn't even sure why she tested herself this way; putting prey so close when she knew it was banishment if she faltered. The relative quiet of the forest crept back in and the slight bodied young woman settled to sit upon a cold bolder; ready to soak in the precious silence before returning to the loud world of the city.

She wasn't new to feelings of unease. She was a runt... a slight, tiny, being raised among the larger giants of her kind. In a tribe where size meant power, Kaii had spent nearly every day suppressing her instinctual 'fight or flight' reactions to the posturing of those around her. All of this aside, being used to a feeling did not mean she was happy about it. Which was why she found herself automatically searching the tree-line for whatever was coming her way.

Kaii felt herself automatically stiffen when he finally entered the clearing. From years of experience, she managed to force herself back into a casual slouch. She wasn't about to give him the satisfaction of knowing he was effecting her at all. She turned her face away; allowing her long dark hair to swing forward and hide most of her expression. Her eyes, however, slid back in his direction.

"Yo." A simple response to recognize that another being was there, but nothing too open to conversation. Not that she'd turn that away, just that it was better to be cautious.

To say that her jaw dropped in shock would be an understatement. Her automatic unease at the stranger's presence was overpowered by her immediate indignation at being found out. Was she truly that awful at playing the "human"? She slid from the boulder; fingers subconsciously feeling the gouges in the rock as pat of her mind calculated the strength involved in such a feet. "Oh, so you know me, huh?" The nerve of this guy, to just waltz into her woods...

She took a deep breath in and let it out. Within seconds of losing her cool, she was already chastising herself. Her kind were territorial, but she could hardly claim any portion of these woods as her own. Besides, she had to admit she couldn't have made those marks in the rock, and part of her was already considering escape routes. "Yes, well... it's not like I'm required to stay there or nothin'" There.. that was a slightly better response to his casual statement, wasn't it?

She could have smacked herself. He had gotten her to give away info of herself by simply making assumptions. She folded her arms in front of herself. The cold didn't effect her the way it did others, but she could at least determine that the relative temperature had cooled considerably in the last several days. She looked to Asher and gave him a smirk of her own, "They were making noise until you arrived. Seems to me that it wasn't the cold that shut 'em up." She pushed her hair behind her ears as she spoke, no longer feeling the urge to hide.

She thought about his other comment; odd colored eyes closing slightly as she considered a response. "Why would you need to figure out if I could talk, anyways? You come across many that don't?"

Kaii gave a rather unladylike snort at his appraisal that she was shy, but she had to admit to herself that the the "little trust" part rang a bit true. She gave herself a mental shrug, putting aside her feelings about how quickly he seemed at summing her up. "I've never found animals to be... clingy." She smiled widely, exposing her pearly whites in a way that indicated another word would fit quite well. "However, I agree about people... at least generally. I can never make heads or tails of them. Obsessing over things that don't really matter..." She stopped herself from starting a tangent.

"Kaii" It wasn't her full name, but at least people could pronounce it. She didn't concern herself over his opinion about her abilities with humor. Humor didn't keep a being alive, and that was mostly what she was concerned with. "And you, oh rock ripper? What's your name?"

She was incredibly curious, but she didn't want him to know that, so she ignored the statement about people hunting and destroying his kind. She raised one dark brow, "You're kind of dead? How can a person be kinda dead? You either are, or you're not... I mean with my experience." Yeah she might be a mythical being, but surprisingly she saw things in simpler ways. "Kaii is short for something, yes." She didn't expand on that, because she was too busy trying not to connect "short" for a statement on her size.

Kaii ignored the comment that her name was cute. She didn't understand "cute" the way most people generally did.

Kaii moved farther up on the boulder to reach behind it for the pack she'd stowed away. The worn leather was cracked with age, but showed no other individualistic marks. It smelled of her, however, proving that it had been with her a long time; sandalwood and cinnamon. She tossed open the flap and rummaged inside to pull out a rather large sandwich; wrapped carefully in wax paper. The smell of roast beef faintly intertwined with her own scent to smell oddly exotic. Of all the things she'd learned from humans, combining breads, cheeses, and meats into a sandwich was by far one of her favorites. Of course veggies wouldn't matter.

Absently she put half the sandwich next to Ace; not bothering to place anything under it. Truth be told, the sandwich was only wrapped in wax paper to keep it from falling apart in her pack; not due to any concerns of hers about dirtiness or freshness. She had listened to his reply the entire time she readied her meal. She stopped, mouth open over a large bite to ask in shock, "Wait, so your body isn't real?" The playful growl caught her off guard again and she almost responded with one of her own, before she reminded herself that growls from different species meant different things.

Her jaw dropped for the second time in her short experience with Asher. Luckily, she had already managed to consume and swallow her half of the sandwich, so he didn't have to see mangled food parts. She closed her mouth quickly and took a moment to swipe up the mustard glob that she'd managed to spill on her white tank top. She popped her finger into her mouth; utilizing the action as a moment to get her thoughts together.

So that was why he seemed so peculiar. She had wondered at her inability to place his smell. The finger was pulled from her mouth and she nudged the sandwich closer to the Vanquished. Despite having eaten more food than her 5' tall stature should have allowed, she took a moment to wonder if maybe he wouldn't need the meal she was offering him... maybe she could eat that half too? "Well, that's pretty ... woah. I mean I guess it would be nice not to worry about pain, but that's kinda crazy how you can do that skin thingie."

She considered telling him a bit more about herself. She couldn't rip off her skin like that, but when she transformed it was kind of similar. Instead of giving up the possible advantage her shape shifting could give her... err that was if this Vanquished guy was actually not as nice as he seemed to be... she decided for at least a bit of truth. "My kind isn't liked much either. We're either seen as slavering beasts of destruction..." She sighed and picked at the mustard stain again; though no further sustenance would come from it. "Or we're slaughtered for profit." She flinched a bit, realizing that she'd said more than she intended. Was Asher the type of being to care about profit? What did he mean by "Goals" and "Means" that others didn't approve of. While she waited for his response, she quickly tried to remember any mention of "vanquished" that her Father might have made.

Kaii stiffened somewhat, when his hand covered her mouth. She didn't like sudden movements, but he didn't seem to be threatening. The slight snarling noise that her ears picked up, started her heart racing. She calmed a bit, when Asher started speaking again. His comment about the sandwich made her blush, though it was quickly in her hands and halfway gone before she took the moment to respond. "What plans." She could have, perhaps, taking a bit longer to chew before answering. The words came out garbled, so she tried again. "I mean, what wants to stop you? What are you trying to do?"

Yeah she had been trying not to show interest in all his mysterious talk, but the distraction of another being in the area had her forgetting to play it 'cool'.

Kaii licked her fingers clean, finally feeling somewhat sated enough to stop thinking about food. Her brows drew together as she considered what life would be like as a vanquished... or she supposed non-life, since he wasn't technically alive. She slid off the boulder and started pacing. She wasn't truly aware that she looked nervous; it was an automatic reaction to the brief scare earlier. Though her body showed the signs of 'flight' her mind was still on the conversation.

"People are always trying to take out things that they don't understand. I guess it's natural to fear what you don't know, but once you take the time to understand it... you should be able to control that fear rather than fight it." Perhaps she was trying to reassure herself of the very fact. She thought about his last question; finally pausing in the pacing as she did. "What am I going to do? I dunno. I don't have a real goal. I was sent off to..." She lowered her eyes to her bare feet. "Find some kind of life." She surprised herself into a laugh, "Hey that's kinda like what you're doing... only mine is figurative."

Kaii clenched and unclenched her fists, her face automatically turning towards the source of the noises that were starting up from the forest. Even if demon scouts and an army of skeletons attempted not to make a noise, her ears were much sharper than most.

She saw no reason to continue hiding from his current question. "You're good... dragon." She felt the urge to transform into her larger and more protected form. At least with fang and claw, she would have an easier time protecting herself. She reminded herself that she was forbidden from taking on that form as well; at least not where she would be recognized for what she was. Her eyes traveled over the large sword and back to Asher's face; meeting his eyes. "Oh I figured that... I mean at least you haven't acted like you wanted to skewer me... yet." She jerked her chin in the direction of the disturbances. "You may need to use it soon though." It didn't bother her to know that blood had been spilled by Asher. Her people often dueled to the death over territory, mates, their hordes of precious rocks and metals... it was a way of life. She didn't understand why he felt the urge to 'make it up' to those that were left, but decided not to broach that subject when it was possible they were about to face trouble.

Her hand swooped down to hook into the straps of her bag. She settled the bag loosely as she sped up her own steps to keep up with Asher. She truly had nowhere else to go, and she felt somewhat safer keeping up with the tall man holding a sword, rather than staying in the forest alone.

"Kalzadin's Call?" Why was that phrase so familiar. She wracked her memory, but just like "vanquished" she couldn't place the name of the flute. She walked on rocks, sticks, bushes, all without flinching; her skin being tougher than it appeared. "Why do you need a flute? Are you also a musician?"

The fact that he seemed to both believe her claim of being a dragon and accept her easily, settled deep within the recesses of her psyche for examining later.

Her eyes were wide as she held extremely still within Asher's arms. She wasn't used to close contact, especially not in her current form. She gave a small ascent noise, but didn't couldn't manage to respond with her voice right away. Stifling the embarrassment that colored her cheeks, she carefully focused her mind on the possible danger around them.

She knew several facts:
1. Asher's abilities...self...soul whatever he was, was probably not considered "holy" or "clean" to these people.
2. Her complete lack of magical ability outside of her transformation powers also meant that she had absolutely no idea where Asher's shield was. She would have to listen to him and move as he said.
3. Any cult that held holy magic, and felt anything other than human was an abomination, was very... very.. deadly to her.

She used her low light vision to carefully look around them, attempting to see any sign of attack before it hit. She supposed, rather randomly, that she could change into her small ferret-form, and escape underground. She would be leaving Asher alone to face this new threat, however. She was surprised how quickly she dismissed the idea of escape when it meant her new... friend maybe?... would be left behind.

Kaii flinched when Asher suggested she hide. Had he somehow realized that she had been considering bolting just a moment before. She felt shamed now in her cowardice. She may not be the largest of her kind, but sure she was stronger than a human would be... maybe? She'd never tested herself against on, and the thought was daunting.

She couldn't sense the shield he left behind, though she imagined that maybe she could. It was almost a half-wish that she would be able to feel magic, sense magic, become magic. That thought wasn't for now either. She turned her attention to the man in front of her. He was so incredibly tall, she wondered if he ever felt fear himself. Did vanquished feel fear? "It's alright... I..." She looked around desperately for anything she could use to help in their defense. Her eyes settled on a large branch. It looked as if it had been hit by lightning at one end, and blackened.

She was quick to grab the branch and hold it before herself. She swallowed quickly in a nervous fashion and forced a wide smile for Asher. "See, I'm sure I can help." All the while her mind repeated the lessons in punching that a friend had given her so very long ago... If only Mia was still around to keep giving Kaii sparring lessons. Maybe then she wouldn't be in this predicament.

Kaii was startled into a screaming yelp by the violent action. She dropped the branch and ran towards Asher and his assailants. The motion attracted attention, and before she could reach her companion, an arm wrapped itself around her waist. The immediate affect of a non-moving object on her moving body caused the air to rush from her lungs. As she gasped, open mouthed, a hand was placed securely over her mouth.

Her breathing came out in rushed whimpers, once she was able to breath at all again. Her eyes went to Asher with great concern. What were they doing to him? Was he alright?

Her fearful thoughts were stopped by the voice by her ear. "Don't you worry now. You're safe with us. That man isn't a man at all." Her assailant, despite giving her reassurance, did not seem at all surprised that she was struggling against his hold. Kaii realized they must be used to 'helping' the unwilling.

Kaii felt her fear abate when she saw that Asher was at least still speaking. She could stop focusing on him and now consider her own self. Instead of struggling, she allowed her body to go limp. The surprised man holding her was distracted from the continuing battle before him, "I think she.. AAAHAAARGH"

Kaii's teeth looked normal, but were incredibly strong. So was her jaw. It had taken her a moment to realize there was one advantage she still retained in her human form, and that was bite! She spit out the bloody lump of flesh as the man dropped his grip of her to raise his hand towards his own face. He did not seem to believe what had happened, even as he continued issuing forth a yell of pain.

Kaii felt a moment of revulsion that the man's flesh had been in her mouth. At least it had only been a section of the meat of his palm. Free from his grip, she ran towards Asher and the rest.

Her stomach was grumbling. This wasn't new to her, as she had a much larger appetite than her current, tiny, form would indicate. To keep herself fed, she often found that she had to consume more often than others. She wasn't particularly worried about adverse effects of improper cooking; which was probably why she was choosing a bar for her 'eats'. "As rare as you got" was the only instruction passed to the server in Gambit's, immediately after 'meat' was requested.
