Kendra Lawrence There were many rustling noises about her, so the young woman paid no mind to another one added to the odd tempo, as she had always preferred noise and bustle over the stark absence of life that silence often brought in its wake. Then the rustling of leaves upon the ground became more insistent and belatedly, she recognised the frequent noises at quick footsteps upon the woodland's floor, turning rapidly to face the source.

The sleeve of her emerald blouse snagged on a rather inconvenient spindly branch, gray eyes immediately cast downwards to untangle it and in doing so, missing the end of the stranger's approach.

"Aha! she crowed as the sleeve came free but soon was distracted from her success by speech, glancing upwards in surprise to find an odd sight before her.

Now, at twenty-seven, one would expect Kendra to have seen such a sight previously and indeed she had - in the local swimming baths. Intimate relationships were not her forte and neither was dealing with any form of nakedness.

Kendra Lawrence There was a flicker of embarrassment across her youngish features, a hand coming up to fiddle with her headband, which was threatening to cover her eyes - a worthy distraction as she kept her eyes upon the stranger's own, giving him a bright smile in return to his query.

"Oh, I'm quite alright," she intoned cheerily, sounding not at all daunted or unsettled by the situation. "I have a habit of wandering about when in thought and now I find myself lost in these woods."

A sparkle flickered through her eyes at a sudden thought but she kept it silent for now. Although he had done her no harm, the Architect knew nothing about this man, save that he appeared quite stern in manner, was fairly attractive in her limited estimations and was quite shirtless. -e-

Kendra Lawrence [color=olive]Her first thought was that the stranger was quite peculiar, but then, most people were unusual to a woman who knew nothing of social norms and practices and especially little of the worlds that might exist in addition to this place and her home.

Instead, she deigned towards responding to his evident concerns for her well-being and was rather reminded of the military of Eden, who had never thought it appropriate for her to go anywhere unaccompanied and gave him a look of approval, as she often did them.

"You didn't frighten me, though you're quite right. This is my first time finding these woods and I know not the dangers or wonders within them." There was a sniff of annoyance at his calling her walking 'stumbling' but it passed quickly, giving him a look of curiosity that belied her appearance. To Kendra, the world was a never-ending wealth of knowledge and this stranger only added to it.

"Even far from home I find those decent enough to be concerned with a stranger's well-being. Thank you, but I'm sure I

Kendra Lawrence "Even far from home I find those decent enough to be concerned with a stranger's well-being. Thank you, but I'm sure that I can safely find the exit without intruding upon your time more than I have." She then indicated Archie with her free hand. "And if not, I have Archie to help me out."

Kendra Lawrence Definitely a soldier, Kendra reasoned brightly in her mind as he spoke eloquently but with a politeness. Her humour was tickled to find that they were both in rather similar predicaments and slightly stunned. He seemed quite capable, so how could he be lost?

Well now, that wasn't very fair was it? He had just gone and offered her not only a warm meal - tempting considering the chill that was cooling her skin - and potential conversation with a peculiar stranger.

He seemed to study her face for a moment before looking away, making Kendra blink in surprise but she recovered hastily, sliding Archie into a popped compartment that hung from her belt.

"If it wouldn't impose upon you, I gladly accept," she responded with a smile not unlike her trademark one, pausing for a moment before holding her right hand out tentatively, but with no reserve. "It seems appropriate to introduce myself if we're to be spending time in one another's company. I am Kendra, pleased to meet you."

Kendra Lawrence Obviously this man wasn't familiar with the practice of handshakes that were commonplace back home, a light blush rising to her cheeks as she felt bare skin under her palm. It's no different to the skin on his hand, she tried to tell herself in a chiding way, knowing that she would have no doubt been a little perplexed and a lot bemused by the strange greeting had she not been feeling thoroughly bewildered.

At least she knew he was like her, Kendra feeling his heart beating steadily beneath the skin of his chest as her eyes stayed trained on him, flickering between her hand and his salute with disjointed interest.

"A pleasure to meet you as well, sir," she replied tentatively, feeling rather awkward using the formal language that she infrequently used but it seemed appropriate in this situation. She said nothing in reply to his request to allow him to assist her whilst they were together, merely nodding her compliance as he released her hand.

Kendra Lawrence It was a struggle not to rub her hand gently, feeling it tingle oddly after coming back into contact with the cold air, beginning to follow him carefully through the darkened woods.

"You do not have to call me lady, you know. I thought that title was reserved for... nobles," she interjected into the silence as they walked, bringing herself alongside her new companion as the query was posed. -e-

Kendra Lawrence "I... Well," Kendra started, but found herself quite speechless in the wake of his explanation. There was no struggle to realise that this was only one of the many differences between their philosophies and worlds but still, the evidence of the matter made her grin inexplicably to learn that such honour codes still existed.

"I really only thought such manners existed only in storybooks. How wonderful!" she finally said as they reached the little camp site, halting her own steps as Lucian set about tending to his armour.

She felt like she must treat this Sentinel, as he called himself, with the same respect that he evidently gave to all that he met and was quite at a loss on how to go about such a thing.

Kendra Lawrence "Should I record data, Lady Architect?" The tinny voice startled Kendra into glancing down at Archie with surprise, her hand coming to her chest as she calmed down.

"Oh no, Archie," she replied, only a little irritably. Dominic had been tampering with her communicator's protocol again, it seemed. "Go into standby mode."

"Affirmative." The little noise indicated compliance and in a bid to distract herself from her own great confusion - a feeling almost alien to her - she approached Lucian as he brought his attention to the various foodstuffs that he had evidently gathered.

"Can I help at all?" she enquired, feeling a little foolish as she crouched down beside the assortment, a hand resting on a nearby tree to support herself. -e-

Kendra Lawrence [color=olive]Kendra stifled a giggle at the look he gave her, reasoning that she had asked something entirely foreign to him. Was she wrong to try and impose her help upon him? Was that not the done thing in his world? Goodness, this was rather difficult!

His reply halted her from retracting her offer, smoothing down her grin as she nodded her understanding as he moved about, gathering the necessary components to begin a fire.

Alright, this she could most certainly do. God only knows what she would have done had he asked her to start the fire. The whole forest would have burnt down, most likely!

There was quite an assortment but Kendra strove to keep the meal simple but hearty, gathering up a few reasonably sized fish with a variety of vegetables rather awkwardly in her arms, separating them from the rest, standing slowly before making her way over to where Lucian was and giving him a smile as she ungracefully set them down a few feet away from the fire upon a stone that had a rather convenient curve on its u

Kendra Lawrence Kendra did not hold back her amusement this time, giggling at his stumbling. "I do not wish to cause you discomfort, so if calling me lady is easier for you, then please continue to do so," she offered, sitting carefully down upon the grass beside the intriguing man, legs tucked underneath her.

Her eyes were indescribably lit as he asked his question. "I'm not from this world, so I haven't the faintest but back home, asking a woman's age is considered quite an intimate question," she said, twirling a bit of auburn hair between her fingers absently as she looked across the small distance between them.

"I however, have never been partial to such things. Why should a woman be able to ask a man his age but he not be able to do the same? I'll answer you if you'll do me the courtesy of allowing me to ask the same of you."

Kendra Lawrence It occurred to Kendra that she had skirted over his reference to her beauty quite aptly, for if she thought on it for longer than a moment, her cheeks became a tad warmer. Social awkwardness was something of a inescapable curse of her personality, so she was very pleased when he assented to reply in kind, giving her a chance to gather her wits.

Until he moved closer and her cheeks did redden then, but her pride prevented her from breaking eye contact, steeling herself against the negative emotion.

"Excellent!" She hoped she sounded quite cheery, for in truth she was excited. "I am twenty-seven and I hail from a place called Earth and more specifically, a city called Eden."

There was a moment of pause as she considered his words with the heavy contemplation she felt they deserved. "Our worlds are quite different, aren't they? Soldiers in my world would give their lives to protect their loved ones from the evils that threaten us, but you can offer your own life if you lie."

Kendra Lawrence "You speak in the past tense," Kendra stated simply, feeling a tug of sadness at his tone. "Can you not return, like me, or did something happen?"

Her eyes followed his form as he laid down beside her, shifting a little so that her back was to the fire and her front to Lucian. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't ask such things. Forgive me," she said very quickly, releasing her hair and placing her hand upon the ground, fanning the grass with her fingers.

Kendra Lawrence There had only been a flash of a moment to find Lucian's grasping of her hands startlingly bold before he had begun to speak and then embarrassment was swept from her thoughts, replaced by the sense that her question was about to answered, whether she willed it or no.

Numbly, Kendra listened, knowing his sorrow but at the same time, was incapable of appreciating the extent of his loss. Entire districts of Eden had been lost to the Sinners of her world, but this... this was eradication; heartless massacre.

Her endless optimism and smiles disappeared, his chuckle causing a frown to mar her lips. "Do not be sorry," she said firmly. "I asked and you were kind enough to answer, despite the pain it instils within you."

Kendra tested his grip on her hands, not surprised to find it easy to break before switched their hands around so that her little hands awkwardly held his. "What selfishness is there in telling such a tale?"

Kendra Lawrence Well... well, she thought, staring after Lucian as if he was the strangest man in the world. Kendra forced herself to recall that he had been calling her beautiful from the beginning, so that was nothing unusual. But there was no mistaking the insistent pounding of blood in her ears as he had leaned towards her.

A breath that Kendra hadn't realised she had been holding in escaped as he moved away, releasing her hands rather awkwardly. What world was this that found the Architect being forced to endure the very thing she was the least practised at?

Kendra Lawrence He called her lady once more, trying not to ponder on the 'my' that came before it too closely. Focus on the conversation earlier, she told herself as she looked about for implements to eat with.

"Tragedy can only be viewed thus if you wallow in your misfortune, instead of trying to make something in the ashes left behind. You have moved forward and there is no impropriety in showing that to anyone," she said gently, giving him a kind smile as she went to stand, placing a hand on the ground to steady herself.

"Implements," she then said abruptly, straightening, giving him a rather hopeless look, only now noticing his blush and wondering if her cheeks were the same colour.-e-

Kendra Lawrence Again, he proved himself quite able as he produced little metal containers with which to set the food inside. Kendra took hers off him with a grateful smile, stiffening only slightly at the brush of shoulder against her body.

Kendra's eyes searched his with a smile, nodding. "I am known as the eternal optimist back home," she grinned in reminiscent humour as she lifted a little bit of the cooked vegetable, eyes lighting up briefly as a pang of hunger flickered and was sated.

"It's lovely, thank you," she said before taking another careful bite of food, deciding against telling him that this was her first meal of the day.

Kendra Lawrence "Ah, I often share food and drink with others often, so I do not mind," she acquiesced with a smile, setting her metal container on the floor in the same moment that he touched her head.

His words made her stare at him, stunned. "How did you know that?" she asked, a little too sharply, trying to decide whether the indignation or flush of pleasure at his claim that he would hunt her down would win out. "So, is starving myself the only way I am likely to see you again after today?" she probed teasingly, looking mortified moments afterwards. She had not just said that!

Kendra Lawrence Kendra's comfort zone had been about fifteen minutes ago; hell, it had been way back when he had taken her hand to greet her. This seemed to be a two-way street, for he had all but admitted his particular attention upon her by his noticing of her ill health, though it was slight.

Her eyes were as wide as saucers, Kendra quite frozen at Lucian's words and actions, her lips falling open in utter... something. "I... goodness!" she exclaimed, looking at him in focused confusion. "It is strange; you know nothing of me and I barely anything of you and yet we are acting this way. Is this normal? Is this even right?" she begged for understanding, gray eyes intently upon the little vegetable piece before her lips and wondering what would happen if she ate it.
