Nadya watched all of this and then rolled her eyes. This was weird and ridiculous and she was bored senseless. Working with Rei may have taught her how to keep her mouth shut and to butt out of things, but this? Urgh. Nadya sighed and found a corner of the shop to take a seat in on the floor. It's not like there was anything else for her to do.

Great. Now she had time to think about it. She had been abandoned hadn't she? Well. It wasn't too surprising. This Laura lady probably would do the same at some point. Nadya pulled her legs up to her chest and lowered her head to her knees. Wing City Orphan. That was her fate here. Her bosses sucked.

By this time Laura was anxious to be rid of her guest and it's strange ways. "Just... tap it with your finger." Laura said looking towards the door of the shop, hoping that this didn't get crazier. "If.. that doesn't work. I think there's a cyber cafe just down the way.." She added helpfully. This was getting even more ridiculous by the moment. Laura seriously doubted her ability to help whatever this thing was, as it was outside the scope of her experience. She dabbled in small time magics, and none of it was really designed to make even the smallest blip on the proverbial radar of most of the unseen.

Ductu poked at the screen understanding that it moved or interacted with such things. The newer words were partly lost on her replying to Laura breaking her monotone with a cheerful smile half-way through, "I will see if I need any Cyber to eat later. I hafta read this now, Kay? I'll be over there if you need anythin'!"

Pointed over to beside the door Ductu went there to read while standing a mist of black particles reorganizing above her hand periodically and compared to the images on the PDA. Occasionally the dust quivered as Ductu tried to figure out how to make the heart work from still pictures. She didn't understand why information flowed down the body around the vein. She'd shortened the nerve fiber when she encountered it. The images said it didn't connect anyway.

That was it. It wasn't a big deal if she found an adult to stay with today. Nadya stood up and bit her bottom lip. Besides, it was probably better if she stayed away from June and her type anyway. She didn't want to be forced out of this vacation life too early. The teen glanced around the shelves and took the long way to the door that let the counter see her as little as possible. She was getting out of here.

A home would have been nice. It would have been a lot like being actually adopted, she was willing to bet. Nadya hesitated by the door as she considered that. A parent. How many lifetimes had it been since she had a parent. Not since her first. She always came without them, it seemed, and the very idea of one...

Well, she had survived this long without a parent or guardian. She could keep it up. Firming her shoulders, she looked to the door and checked to make certain the way was clear.

"And where do you think you're going young lady?" June asked putting a hand on Nadya's shoulders. She had been allowing the teen to wander while she dealt with this zombie character, but she'd also been keeping a careful eye on the girl. Who knew what sort of wards Laura had decided incorporate into the building, and just how much help she'd had charging them.

Sighing, Laura looked around grateful to see that her shop wasn't in disarray much more than usual. "I'm sorry about that Councilor, I really am.. this place hasn't really ever attracted a customer like that before."

pieces of fresh heart emerged into the air as Ductu tried to put the errant pump back together. She wasn't a Jinhai she needed to know how the organ worked to reassemble it. Veins, nerves, and cartilage were one thing but the organs were singular devices. The pieces throbbed as they tried with futility to pump in place among motes. Ductu kept them alive with her own life energy. Some muscle had to be removed from the host to study the organ but the mass grew back fast enough.

Then she felt the wave of psychic energy that passed from Holy Terra across the Altar of Myrkul. Toothy with gleaming eyes she lit up gleefully while working, "The Emperor of Mankind has risen! Demonkind will be turned to dust."

"Far, far away." She said firmly, and pointed to the zombie. "And that is why. Seriously, I want to go take shelter somewhere safe, because those are the words of yet another invasion force. I know what happens with invading forces. I lost my parents to one." And she didn't want to die just because some jerk decided that Terra was a good place to invade, or take over, or bomb the hell out of because that was what happened, every time.

People died. She was an orphan because people died. The girl wiped at her eyes, refusing to cry. The chance of a parent of some sort wasn't worth her life, and she recognized danger when she saw it. "Everyone knows people like that don't keep casualties to only the one species or race or alien they are after. There will be collateral damage, and there will be more collateral damage than actual who cares what killed." She held her elbows in either hand and looked away. "I don't want to die. Maybe having a family isn't worth dying over. I can stay an orphan."

"Trust me when I say you are safe hands here." June said with a sigh. She could see where the girl was coming from, especially after the girl's strange words. Unfortunately she wasn't sure that there was really anything she could do about what was going on right now, not without consequences anyway. "Laura is perfectly capable of protecting you, and she has friends that can help you." June added as she knelt down to Nadya's level. "Even if anything happens, it's not your job to worry about it. Be a kid for awhile, okay?"

"She's right you know. Being a kid is important." Laura said. "Besides which, I suspect our zombie friend will be gone sooner or later, never to be seen or heard from again." If they weren't, Laura knew a handy spell to get rid of them permanently. Though it was rather a one time use thing.

Ductu looked over still gleeful at the return of an Emperor having a keen ear and little decorum against eavesdropping, "Myrkul will never forget your help. All struck from the Altar after me will remember your generosity. The Emperor is returned to life blooded and thumping like this missing part of my host! Once I fix her I can leave her here and return to Him. We are in service of Humanity now we must protect the willing!"

She looks on at a single strip of heart muscle the glistening red meat and its pacemaker causing periodic quivers.

Nadya hesitated and bit her bottom lip. "...Are you sure?" She said and glanced to the zombie being. "Even the house mother..." She trailed off and looked to June, eyes wide, uncertainty clear there. "I don't know if I know how. I wasn't a kid in the refugee camps even, and it wasn't too much better at the group home." And she didn't think that it would be too much better now, but they seemed to think it would be, that they would handle it all.

Could they handle it all? June probably, given who she was, but Laura? She looked kind and caring and terribly, terribly weak. Then again, Nadya was used to soldiers and guns and fights and trying, desperately, to not be killed because she had been seen, or broken some unknown rule, or hadn't pulled her weight.

"Positive." Laura confirmed with a nod before giving Ductu a strange look. The girl was uttering what sounded like complete nonsense to her. With a slight shrug, she turned her attention back to Nadya and June. "The house mother was likely overwhelmed and underpaid. It's a normal reaction." Laura assured the teen. "Refugee camps are... what's the word.. chaos?" June mused before leaving Laura with Nadya.

"I hope we were able to at least give you some semblance of help, even if it wasn't necessarily what you wanted." June said as she approached where Ductu stood. "I mean you should be able to turn that into a heart sooner or later right?"

Ductu smiled, "I think so. You're made of so much meat! Jinhai might find their way here eventually but we are few still. They are protecting wing city rekindling the lives of dead mankind. They think you are easy to repair. We are trapped in Genesis the Warp holding demons holds us back."

She frowns at the strip of quivering meat her accent returning, "But like Ductu like me can only ring the altar of Myrkul we can't join. I gotta actually learn stuff I guess it makes us easier to bond with willing mankind. Did you know your heart is built really weird. Doesn't it clog? We don't like... push water around inside."

Squirming her face she adds with a raised eyebrow pulling her cheek, "Your bodies are like... really moist. It's kinda disgusting. We haven't been in mankind's space for thousands of years. I never got to bond to any before."

"Chaos is right." She agreed and then hesitated, before moving a bit closer to Laura. She took a deep breath and smiled to the other, uncertain. June would take care of the zombie, it seemed. That was good. The teen tucked her hair behind her ears and looked to the side, uncertain. "June says your family is a refuge of some kind." She said quietly. "Is it really?" She couldn't imagine June having her on of course, but she also couldn't imagine finding a home, a place to stay, just like that.

Maybe her Bosses were looking out for her after all. The teen looked up to the sky and wondered if they were. She'd pray to them tonight, to thank them, just in case.

June offered Ductu a slight shrug, "Squishy meat bag is another way I've heard it. But yes, heart's can clog keep reading that text Laura gave you. Because they can break in many ways, and sometimes they just don't work." She couldn't really quite understand this new entity's fascination with the human race. "Take it from me though, humans have been coming up with new, interesting and creative ways to kill one another for millennia. You're not the first thing to take notice and want to help."

Laura pursed her lips in thought for a moment before answering Nadya, "Yes, really." She said finding that a simple answer was the best thing for the small teen.

Ductu looked askance at June with her cybernetic patina-colored eyes. A stiff face gave a flat voice, "Help? You made us for this purpose. We exist to protect Mankind and the Emperor from threats of ætherkind. Kept from the emptiness of their eternal hands if we can help it. We will run æther threats to the emperor down to the end of existence then turn that them and that place back to the dust it came from."

The warmer tint to her voice returned as a huff left, "Hummph! I just hope I can get this running before she wakes up all the way! I have to like learn how to make one that won't just stop after. The new Emperor hasn't made new Dicta yet. If I'm in the host and she wakes in refusal I will be in violation."

She frowns out a whine, "I don't wanna be poured into the Altar to be recreated! I'm a good Ductu! I didn't want the Mankind to die at the weapons of nonhumans! The Jinhai don't understand they're all the same person!"

She nodded, uncertain. "Alright. I think June took me here for that." She was certain of it really. "I...I didn't mean to, but I accidentally showed I could do some magic. I was just startled though." She blushed, embarrassed. She shouldn't have revealed anything to June, startled or not. She knew better than that, and had no doubt that she'd be in trouble for it later. The girl tucked her hair behind her ear again, though it definitely didn't need it at all. She bit her bottom lip and looked down. "It's okay if you can't for me though."

She could just go back into the system, if she couldn't hack living on her own. It would be fine, and she knew it. She wasn't like other magic kids, who might need more help than she did. Or she thought she wasn't. She hadn't been her for very long.

Laura just laughed at Nadya's excuse, "It's okay, Nadya was it? Magic is something that ties all of us together some way, some how." She explained to the teen as she lead her towards the front of the shop. "Some of us can do great, huge, magics and some of us are content with much smaller things." Laura said before disappearing behind the beaded curtain for a minute. "Councilor Blackwelder knows her stuff and she used to handle a lot of the children's cases for local law enforcement so... I wouldn't worry." She added from somewhere in the small back room used for storage.

"Made you? I didn't make you, I think you're very much mistaken." June replied plainly. This was insane, aether threats and emperors she hadn't even heard of. She briefly wondered if it was worth violating her personal very low contact policy with her siblings to ask if they'd encountered much of the same strangeness. The Council likely wouldn't have anything on this, and likely wouldn't care.

She smiled at laura leaning in a bit, "Well, um, we kinda can't tell between mankind so Myrkul names you all our creators. There's just you, the emperor, your names, and what uniqueness we feel of your mind outside it. The fallen Emperor did not carve in the Altar of Myrkul a Dicta for your faces before he died."

The emotion on her face hardens, "We will protect you from ætherkinds at all costs. Celestials will be tolerated unless the Emperor of Mankind bids us deal with them. Demonkind will be destroyed. Sylvankind was not a focus of the fallen Emperor."

Ductu put the host's finger to her chin looking at June, "Maybe I could learn faces? How do you tell the difference between each other? All the meat looks the same from inside."

She stares at June's eyes, "Is it the color on the front of the eyes?"

"Yeah. Nadya Alexeev. My English is pretty good, but that's because I learned it in the camps. I'm russian." She said simply and moved to the edge of the beaded curtain, peering past it curiously, but not stepping back there at all. "I haven't spoken it in ages though. I think I've forgotten a lot by now." It wasn't like people spoke Russian here, and with no family, well. Who was going to enforce the language in her head?

"Are there lots of kids cases? There can't be too many right? I mean, people here are mostly nice to magic users."

None of this was making sense to June, and that was saying something, so she just offered the other a non-committal shrug. "Something like that I suppose." She muttered in reply. "Honestly... I think you just need to spend some time out in the world to figure things out. You know a few millennia or so, it might do a mind some good." June added taking a quick look at the time on her watch. "Either way, you'll be fine... just you know steer clear of whatever made that hole." She said to Ductu before slipping out of the shop and disappearing.

Meanwhile Laura was helping Nadya settle in as best she could, "Russian huh? That's interesting." She said as she reappeared, setting a mug of hot chocolate in front of the small teen. "I think my old boss's aunt is Russian.. or something like that. I forget, she comes in here occasionally though."
