Mathas's Story

Mathas slowly pushed the door to the tavern open, and peered inside. Entering, he quietly shut the door, and made his way to an empty booth. Sitting down, he let out a sigh of relief as he placed his backpack on the ground. The pack began to shudder, and a small chirping noise came from withing. Mathas raised an eyebrow, and whistled. Whirring, a small, spider-like machine crawled out of the backpack and scurried onto the table. Mathas laughed, and gave his small friend a pat on the head. The machine chirped happily in reply.
The setting changes from Gambit's Hotel, 3rd Floor to Gambit's Bar
Mathas slowly pushed the door to the tavern open, and peered inside. Entering, he quietly shut the door, and made his way to an empty booth. Sitting down, he let out a sigh of relief as he placed his backpack on the ground. The pack began to shudder, and a small chirping noise came from withing. Mathas raised an eyebrow, and whistled. Whirring, a small, spider-like machine crawled out of the backpack and scurried onto the table. Mathas laughed, and gave his small friend a pat on the head. The machine chirped happily in reply.
Mathas poked his head into the bar. Looking around, he quietly slipped inside and closed to door gently behind him. Mathas pulled his cloak tightly around him and made his way to an empty booth. Sitting down, he placed his backpack on the ground, and brought his left arm into the light. It's metallic surface gleamed in the firelight, and whirring noises issued forth from inside. Mathas was distracted by a small chirping noise that came from his pack. He whistled, and a small, spider-like machine crawled out. It skittered onto the table and shittered happily.
Mathas raised an eyebrow at the small machine. "Legs, mind helping?" The spider chirped once more, and a small hatch sprung open on its back. Out came several mechanical arms, with grasping pincers at the ends. Mathas opened a small hatch on his own arm, revealing the clockwork interior. Reaching into his pack, the artificer removed a pair of lenses and placed them on his head. Focusing, he began to work on the inner regions of his mechanical appendage, his own hand choreographed with the machine's arms.
Mathas looked back at the girl whose eyes were staring holes into the back of his head, then turned to his machine. "Uhm, Legs? Creep behind us. You wanna take this one?" Legs chirped happily, lifted one of it's legs - and shot a small stream of oil at Rin.
Mathas looked at his machine. "Hear that, buddy? No magic mean no you." The machine chittered angrily. Mathas nodded, closing the hatch on his arm. "Oh yeah. I know what you mean. No way in the Hells are we letting that happen." A blade sprang forth from the metallic arm, and flames engulfed his other hand.
Mathas walks up to Drakus. "I heard you're only taking regulars. I'd still like to assist, if I could."
Mathas entered the bar. He quickly crossed the room to an empty booth by the fireplace, his mechanical arm hissing and emitting small puffs of steam. Sitting down, Mathas sighed, and reached into one of the numerous pouches on his belt. Pulling out a small set of tools, he set about tinkering on his arm. Meanwhile, a small chirping noise came from his pack, as a small, mechanical device appeared from it. Spider-like, it skittered over Mathas's back, whirring and chittering as it watched.
Mathas made a motion to the machine on his shoulder and whistled. The spider whistled in return, and scurried onto the tabletop. With a flurry of motion, a small hatch opened on the device's back and a number of brass appendages reached out. They began to work on Mathas's arm in unison with the Artificer's own motions. Faster and faster the two moved together, until there was a loud blast of steam. "A-ha!" Mathas cried, face changing from triumph to worry as a dagger-sized blade first unsheathed, then fired from the mechanical arm, flying across the tavern.
