Steve wandered back over to where he had tossed his money to try and retrieve it, then wandered after her.
Tavi went to the nurse's station behind the doors and started typing in the information for his discharge papers. Yes, she could have gotten one of the nurses to do it, but she didn't trust them yet and it would be faster if she just did them herself. She turned her head and noticed him following her but didn't say anything. Within a few minutes, she had his papers printed. She handed them to him. "I saw you almost cut yourself again on that window. If you want your cut to get better, stay away from activities that could pull out your stitches. It will take a couple of weeks to heal, don't take your stitches out before then, or you'll end up back here with another doctor stitching them up." She paused as one of the nurses tapped her on the shoulder, telling her that her next patient was waiting. She waited til the nurse left before saying "I get off of work at 6 am. I'll answer any phone calls after that."
Steve narrowed his eyes for a moment, and then said, "Then I will wait until then to call you. Thank you for your servitude. I will repay it with monetary values at the reception." He took a step backwards, eyeing her suspiciously, then took his papers and left.
She looked at him and seeing his suspicion, said "You're welcome, it's what I do." and headed toward her next patient.
Tavi had just clocked out when her phone rang. The number was unfamiliar, but she did tell Steve to call after 6 and didn't have time to put his number in her phone, so she answered. "This is Tavi."
The setting changes from Wing City Hospital to Wing City Plaza
Tavi walked to the plaza. As she walked, she considered everything that went on in the past 12 hours. Steve seemed interesting and straightforward, which was nice, but she wondered what his secret was and why he seemed almost like he was... rusty on how society worked. She was so lost in her thoughts she almost didn't see Steve leaning against the wall of the cafe. "Hey Steve. Long time, no see," she joked.
She went in the direction he gestured. "Great, I'm starving. And I was joking, although it feels like a long time with these hospital shifts." She looked at the menu. She contemplated whether she needed caffeine or not and decided for it, considering she didn't know how long Steve would take to show her his secret. "So what do you do when you're not working?"
She looked back at him, and actually studied him this time. Despite his strange blue hair and blood-stained clothes, he wasn't bad-looking and was actually... kind of cute. "You look good yourself, despite the blood stains. Yes I'll take a mocha and a club sandwich. Thank you for ordering for me." She handed him her menu and waited while he went and ordered the food.
She smiled excitedly. "Yes, I love martial arts. I've been in it for a few years. Weapons class is my favorite though. I love learning the katana. I also enjoy the fine arts, though I'm sure I'm not as good at them as you. What's your favorite thing to paint?"
Stars? She thought that was a little specific, but the stars were pretty cool. She also picked up her sandwich and attempted to look ladylike despite how hungry she was. "What kind of do-it-yourself work do you do?"
Tavi continued eating her sandwich as she thought about what to say next. She didn't think he would be interested in her workday, what with the mountains of paperwork and dozens of patients all needing something different. "Well that sounds exciting. Can't wait," she said sincerely. "I will say after being in medical school for so long, it is weird having some free time. I was always studying for this exam or that one right up until I graduated."
As he said that, she took the last bite of her sandwich. "Very well, lead the way." She stood up and picked up her coffee to take it with her.
As he guided her through the more sketchy parts of town, she started wishing she had brought something to defend herself with. "I'm pretty sure I can handle myself. Tell me everything." Then she heard someone behind them. She turned to look at the new person who interrupted their conversation.
She saw his eyes were unfocused and immediately knew what was going on. Her doctor instincts kicked in. "Sit down, you're going to trip over your own feet if you're not careful."
Octavia looked confused at Steve's behavior. "Steve, he's high. Don't make the poor guy suffer." She put a hand on both of their shoulders to indicate that they should separate.
