Pharo's Story

Pharo flinched, not expecting the touch, but smiled at Iante regardless. "I have never played, but you can teach me so I can."
Pharo looked completely blank as he tried to sort out what it was Iante had just said. "I don't know what Skittles are."
Pharo nodded, believing every word as Iante was assured that it's true. "I did not realise angels could harness a rainbow..."
Pharo "Oh, ok. Of course." He looked at Ghell as he realised he was finding Pharo amusing and cute for some reason. "What?"
Pharo prodded Ghell, trying to figure out what it was, but not getting anywhere. "We could if you want, but will your parents be very happy about you bringing strangers home?"
Pharo thought back to his quarters on the Rakinsa, and could hardly justify calling them a house. "But I don't have a house..."
Pharo took a single sweet gingerly, inspecting the acid green drop suspiciously before placing it in his mouth. "I am sorry, but I don't think you would do very well with me. You'd be better off staying with Ghell." Iante's disappointment made him feel nauseous, and he dearly wanted to cure it. The sharp, artificial sweetness of the skittle wasn't helping...
Pharo gestured at Kai, in what was essentially a failed attempt at a wave by someone who has no idea how they work.
Pharo touched Iante's head gently, projecting a mix of comfort and calm. Despite the species difference, Pharo's empathy worked just as well as ever, unless Iante rejected it. He picked up on the feelings Iante didn't express, though not the thoughts themselves, and they hurt, they really did.
Pharo nodded, maintaining his projection. "We understand, but it is against our rules to get involved." He looked at Ghell, pained and frustrated. "If we took you home with us, you would be returned immediately by our superiors."
Pharo "He can, but how likely are they to listen? This place has no Ambassador, so there is no one to speak for him."
Pharo despite his soothing projection for Iante, Pharo honestly wanted to cry. It was horrific that the Prime Directive would not allow them to help, calling it interference. "We'll keep them private, shall we?" He said, looking desperately for a way to make even this little gesture work for Iante. "We could transport them directly to you, not through your parents. I'm sure we could set it up."
Pharo managed to pick up on a little of what Iante was thinking, though he was confused by it. He knelt by Iante and murmured to him, so it remained private. "I don't know why you think it, but I promise we won't die."
Pharo shook his head. "Your father cannot hurt us; we would stop him. Don't be afraid for us." He gently brushes Iante's tears away. "We will write, regardless of your father. We would never want to leave you on your own."
Pharo shook his head, cursing silently, then hit on an idea he hadn't considered. He unclipped the com at his belt, a nondescript oblong with only two buttons. He offered it to Iante. "Take this. If something happens and you need help, press this button." He pointed to one lightly shaded green "I'll know if you do, and I'll come, ok? I promise." He looked up at Ghell, knowing there would be questions. "Betel isn't technically a full member of the Federation. The Directive can go to their hell."
Pharo agreed with what Ghell said. "I can't lie. You'd know if I did, so when I say I promise, that's it."
Pharo hugged the boy back, knowing Ghell would forgive him the intimacy of the move. "I have to go for a bit, but I'll be back again soon." He tapped the com he'd given Iante. "Just call, remember?"
