"Son of a bitch..."

The door of the bar swung open to admit a young woman, stumbling in from what appeared to be the pouring rain. A brief flash of cobbled streets and gas-lit streetlights was visible before the door swung closed again, and the outdoor scenery returned to that of Wing City. Soaked through, the shivering girl took a few more tentative steps into the establishment, her arms wrapped tightly about herself.

A long gash ran across her chest, shallow but grating, and her thin, revealing top was steadily soaking up red from it. A second wound to the side of her head trickled into her hair, joining the water in dripping from the drowned locks onto her skin and the floor. Coughing, the girl staggered over to a booth and leaned over onto the wooden side of it, panting and gasping for breath.

So tramatised was she, that she did not even notice her odd surroundings, and the fact that the view outside the windows did not match the time of day -- let alone the location -- of where she had just come from.

"Wh... heal me?" the girl muttered, confused and disoriented. She shook her head, putting her hand to the wound on it, "How do you mean..? Are you a nurse?"

She barely had time to further make her confusion apparent, however, before another woman was approaching. As she began muttering, the blonde girl eyed her warily. "What are you..?"

She was cut off, then, as the water rose out of the canteen, and her eyes widened. Letting out an oath and a curse, she stepped backwards, obviously mortally afraid. "What the 'ell are you doing?!" she cried, her thick cockney accent obvious in her shock. Making the sign of the cross, as if to ward Taretha away, the girl began to panic.

When Tahira joined her, the girl looked to her as a 'rock' of (at least somewhat) normality in this bizarre impossible event. "'s nothing..." she muttered, shaking her head. She was trained by rote to 'ignore' whatever her clients did to her, as business was business. "B- the water! That's unnatural!"

Reluctantly, 'Ruby' allowed herself to be led to a seat, her head swimming with concussion and confusion. Where in God's name had she ended up now? Perhaps another time the girl would have questioned the ready acceptance of Ali alongside those such as Kisa (in her time the segregation of the races being still in full swing), but right now she was too busy questioning... floating water?

"'m fine. Jus' a scratch." she continued to mutter -- Daliah would be furious if she heard about this!

"I'm not suppose' to say. Someone caught me by surprise, is all. Nothin' serious. I'll heal." Ruby shrugged, "I'll be worse off if I blab, yeah?"

The girl eyed Ali warily, suspicious of benevolence. Most people had no sympathy for practitioners of the world's oldest profession.

Ruby glanced around, at the odd room, the fact that it was no longer night outside, and decided that this was, in all likelihood, a vivid dream. So what harm could it do to talk? "Fine, if y' want the truth, y' can have the truth. One of my customers got a little enthusiastic, and slammed my 'ead against the side of his bed. The slash is from a broken bottle. Drunkard, he was."

Ruby grimaced. "Can prob'ly still smell the beer on me." she muttered.

"Respectable men what pick up us girls? They're few an' far between, let me tell you. Money's money, I'll take what I get or else I'll just starve to death, violent drunks to 'ell." Ruby grimaced.

"I do what I gotta do to get by." she muttered.

Ruby Nocturne gaped at the gold that the woman proffered, taking it hesitantly and stuffing it away as soon as she realised that she was indeed being given it, without a catch.

If only it were not a dream.

"Th.. thanks!" she said, blinking and shaking her head. "I really ought to go. My.. boss, she'll be wonderin' where I am. Thanks, again. I 'ppreciate it, a lot."

Ruby smiled distantly to Ali, before she herself stood, trying not to look at Pryo too much, and making her way toward the door. She pulled it open, and sure enough, there waited the pouring rain. She took a deep breath, before running out into it. As the door closed the scenery once again returned to that of ordinary Wing City.

Maybe... it wasn't a dream? The rain certainly felt real enough. She'd have to go home first, stash the coins. They'd be robbed of her quick as a flash if any of the other girls, or indeed Daliah herself, discovered them...

For a brief moment the light at the bar's windows was replaced with the dark of late evening, as the door opened with a click to admit a young girl. An oil-lit lamp was visible outside before the door swung closed, and the light of afternoon returned, along with the regular scenery.

Ruby Nocturne (a ridiculous name by all counts, and quite obviously assumed) glanced about the room, running a hand through her hair. "Oh. Here again." she said, shaking her head. Clad in revealing clothing, Ruby wasn't at all out of place with the usual female patronage, but she still felt someone self conscious. Maybe she should invest in a coat? She had money now. Once she organised herself, she might even be able to get out of her current... business.

Ruby took a seat at the bar, glancing around warily. She would stay for a little while. Her hand lightly traced the white scar on her chest. Perhaps that woman would be here again...
