Sananna lowered herself to the floor, pulling the woman up. "Come, now. Do not be fearful. Nothing within this lair will cause you harm. Calm down." she said sternly, looking down upon the girl.

"Do you know your name?"

"Very interesting. Well, never to fear. I believe...it might be Lilith. Does that, so to speak, ring any bells?" she asked, letting her eyes run over the woman.

"Calm down. My appearance may be frightening, but I am far from the monsters you are sure to meet outside of my chambers."

Saranna was going to be blunt.

"You were her. And she was you. You were the same person, and I separated you. She, all the evils, and you, the compilation of all the good. That woman claimed to be Satan's general. Now, there's quite a few Satans out there, but it never was any reason to overlook how bad one acting out is."

"I suppose you are. Is that a side you will refuse to admit to, as well?" she asked, raising a brow. "I do not believe you were forced into existence, no. You were an unfortunate byproduct of her possession of a young girl. But now you have a will of your own. What you intend to do with it is all up to you, now."

There was a round of applause from five pairs of hands. Saranna almost smiled. "Very good. Now, if I am going to take something from you, I must give you something in turn. You wish to be kind? Noble? The opposite of the other half. Very well."

Saranna rose her first pair of arms, extending her fingers, From one hand, a thin, mistlike substance shot out, driving through Lilith and tangling around the demonic, dark parts of her soul, ripping it out fiercely.

From the other, tendrils of light oozed, and dove into the woman's body, replacing the darkness, which was quickly dumped within a clear jar that Master Toad held in his hands.

Saranna closed her hands, and all at once, the light faded, and the spell was over with.

"Good. Good. Very good. I've gotten a remarkable amount of errands finished today. The frogs will bring you some clothes. Do you have a preference?"

Saranna snapped, and a series of croaks could be heard in the next room.

"What did I do? I gave you a power that would only make the other furious in turn. She causes chaos...you...will cause tranquility. Or, in the very least, try to. Use the power wisely, will you?" she said. "And a girl you love? I haven't any idea."

Great kindness?

Hah!

Saranna was in it for the viewing pleasure. Not of Lilith's nude form, of course, but for the battle- the conflict...that was sure to come in the future. Saranna helped others and granted wishes so she could observe the outcome, whether it was fortunate or not.

But the witch managed a wry smile, patting Lilith on the shoulder, just as the frogs came in carrying a dress. A very simple blue dress, with ruffles at the waist, modest indeed, with a high neck.

"Just call me Saranna. And please, do be sure to do whatever you can in the world outside."

"Oh, do not worry for this witch, Lilith. Within my chambers, there is only one master, and no one can defy my rule here. It is absolute."

There was a much smaller, very undragonlike creature ambling up to Railynn that day.

It was a green frog, running on two legs, with a red hat and shirt. As it skidded up to Railynn, it wiped its brow.

"The Madame has a message for you! She would like to warn you of a great, and terrible force headed this way for business. She said it will not be dangerous as long as you comply to its wishes, and it will likely never bother you again. That is her message."

The frog nodded, gave the woman a salute, and rolled down a small hill before leaping on its way. It was sure it had something else to tell the girl, but...bah. It probably wasn't important at this time!

Not half an hour after this warning, dark clouds gathered overhead, and the day grew dark. There was a sharp clap of thunder, and the wind picked up.

Through the trees, one could hear heavy, steady footsteps. They did not shake the ground, nor did they sound particularly as massive as a behemoth, but the monster of a man that walked through the woods toward Railynn was plenty more terrifying.

Perhaps it was his heavy bulk, though that should not have been enough to scare the girl. Even his weapons- a crude, but effective ax made by the tooth of some ancient monster- would have been commonplace for her.

There was something else about him. He wore a pair of worn, traveled pants, and bore his chest bare, revealing a collage of colorful scars, old injuries, deep grooves, and a brick wall of pure muscle. Every movement caused them to ripple.

But no! No...that wasn't it, either.

It was his eyes.

Something in his eyes, that revealed a deep, dark intelligence that stated this was no simple warrior. They were the eyes of a very powerful predator that knew its place.

"I was told...this is where I can buy dragons." he said, not asking, but telling. His voice was like gravel, stone against stone, or perhaps the deep rumble of thunder.

Look for them, she said.

It would not be difficult, she said.

Well, Toad certainly trusted the words of Saranna, but her...opinions...needed a bit of revision! Difficult was trekking over the wastelands looking for some sign of life. A dragon flew overhead at one point, but it needed to be something sentient. That he could speak with.

Damnable woman. What was her second set of instructions? His true name? Toad sighed, then shrugged.

"Valentine Rey."

"I have been living with the Master, Saranna, for more years than I wish to recall. I know this rule all too well." he said, speaking clearly, deeply, with a slight croak in the back of his throat.

"I bring news from the Master. I also bring her with me. My real name is Valentine Rey. Her own is known by only two."

"Ah, yes...we've heard about Mammon. We can offer you safe haven, or perhaps a guardian. Even the power to keep him at bay. But it would be better for you to discuss this with Saranna, herself..."

From his little shirt, Toad retrieved a small, square mirror, no bigger than a pocket watch. He set it on the ground, stepped back, and muttered an ancient, magical language. The small mirror began to unfold and expand, over and over again, standing erect as it reflected the vast wastelands before it.

And then, all at once, it became dark.

Something...pale and sickly...a face! White, with lips like onyx, appeared, with ten arms, five at each side, grasping the edges of the mirror.

"You called?" spoke the witch.

"I am aware of quite a bit." replied Saranna, letting her eyes fall to Toad for a brief moment. "Many spies roam Terra and feed knowledge back to myself."

One pair of arms laid onto her lap, fingers clasping, while another arm leaned its elbow onto an imaginary rest, chin resting atop the knuckles. "You can go ahead and not trust me. I have many customers to attend to. Your business may or may not be valuable. It is you who are the desperate ones. I can offer you great power in many forms, or shelter. However, many of those come at a price. Are you ready to pay it, if you so wish?"

"And what might the knowledge be about? I am not out to take that eye or tooth. I have many of my own. I also know enough for my own benefit at the moment- or so I'd like to think. Would you like to prove me wrong?"

"Please, if you will, name where she is a key player. There is much going on within Terra- and outside Terra- at the moment. But do tell me. Who is this Lilith? Why is she important? Go on. Tell me."

"You believe me to be simply mortal?" said Saranna, amused. "Or vaguely human?" There was nearly a laugh in that voice. But she digressed, shaking her head.

"This is all very informative, indeed. I do believe I can use this information to my..." A smile curved on her lips, "...leisure. Very well. Choose what you may. You can come to my chambers, where my power is absolute, or I can hand you a guardian of some sort. I am also open to suggestions. "

All fifty of Saranna's fingertips touched to their twin. Tapping. Tapping.

"Very well. You may come to my chambers. I shall prepare a spell to allow you through this mirror. I shall also let you know that you are allowed to stay because of your payment. I did not say I wanted to keep you on any other term. I shall spread news of your existence in this realm as long as you feed me information I wish to hear. Understood?"
