Taretha Rake

An elemental summoner, focusing upon the use of water and air.

0 · 1,575 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Guest, as played by Discipline

Description

Taretha has amber-coloured hair and sea-blue eyes. She has a frail build-- a bit skinny, and even now showing some symptoms of osteoporosis. Normally behind her is a troupe of small clouds, each about the size of one's hand.
She normally wears a royal blue robe and high heels, explaining the clackity-clackity noises she makes whilst walking, although often discards them when in battle, preferring instead a T-shirt, what these queer Earthlings call 'jeans', and a pair of sandals.

Personality

In terms of position on the good-evil axis, Taretha probably falls a bit closer to the 'evil' side than the 'good' side. She has a rather sadistic personality, and is very self-righteous at times. Often, she's conflicted as to if she's a 'good' or a 'bad' person. She still tends to look at things dichotomously; "Are you with me or against me?" is one of her favourite lines. Taretha often trusts people too easily and blindly, and while this has made her friends with many people, she's been deceived one too many times for it to be considered a plus.

Taretha has no time or interest in sex. She'd be labelled "asexual" by a psychologist, as it's not that she has some problem that makes her turn away from sex, or that she can't get a man or woman, but she literally was born with no sex drive. She doesn't spend much time thinking about this, either, as she's usually either fighting for her life or running from people who want to either crucify her or make her repent for being a 'witch.'

Equipment

As a summoner, Taretha obviously summons elementals. Their "summoning" is in fact an enchantment of the matter with her energy. They are controlled to a certain extent by Taretha, but as one goes down the list of controllable beings, her control over them diminishes as they become more and more willful.

Naiads; Sample image -- Image

Why yes, the creatures so fondly called "naiads" by her are merely the water in a glass given temporary sentience. She can summon approximately fifty such separate beings, and merge and separate them at will. Their true power is that she can, with a thought, freeze them instantly, although she can't control water in its frozen state as well. Often, she'll distract an opponent so as to not let them notice that some of her naiads have floated behind them, then freeze them and send them barreling at the back of their head. It's an effective tactic for mortal opponents.

Cirri; The 'clouds' often seen trailing behind her are in fact these, which are charged masses of air. They appear as small clouds of mist. She has almost complete control over these, and often uses them as handfree "tasers"; the eight or so that she can summon barring other summoned creatures can, when used to shock in tandem, bring down an ordinary human.

Water Servitor; Sample image -- Image

These have more control of themselves than the preceding summons, but they still must obey the will of Taretha. Both kinds of Servitors are about the size of a refrigerator. Taretha can use these as guards that will aim water and slush from their own bodies (which will slowly disappear as they use up their water) at attackers. Each attack, if it directly connects, feels like a punch by a rather hefty mortal, and might bruise. Rarely do they break skin though. She can summon four of these at max.

Aerial Servitor; They're pretty much invisible, but they kick up small current of air in their wake. If they could be seen, they'd look sort of like the water servitor, just more effervescent. They're rather willful, and don't have the shackles that bind the Water Servitors. These Servitors can blow rocks up to cobble-size at opponents or blast away incoming debris. The latter also uses up some of the air inside the Servitor. Taretha can summon three of these at max.

Hydrodragon; Sample picture -- Image

The hydrodragon looks somewhat like a Chinese dragon, except made up completely of water. She has a pretty hard time controlling even one, and if she stops controlling them they're just as apt to turn on their former controller as they are on her opponent. The hydrodragon is about an anaconda's length and can float up to 50 ft. above the ground. It can spit out a jet of water with the same force as a fire hose, or fire hail the size of grapefruits from its tail. On a great day, Taretha can control two for about 5 minutes, and one for about 20.

Hurricane; Sample picture -- Image

Despite its name, the Hurricane is more of a dust devil. Taretha has almost no control of it, and it usually just ambulates around as a hazard if she stops controlling it. The diameter of the Hurricane is about 90 ft., and it rises about 700 ft. high. It moves at about 20 mph. It contains no eye, and the farther you get in the more debris is whirling and the faster the speed of the wind is. 100 ft. out, the wind speed will be around 10 mph. 50 ft. out, the wind speed will be about 40 mph. Inside the dust devil might be 90 mph, 100. She can't sustain the Hurricane for more than 3 minutes, and the longest she's actively controlled it would be about 8 seconds. It's extremely, extremely tiring -- the Hurricane is her trump card, and if it fails she's as good as dead.

Taretha has acquired an air-tight, metal canteen strapped around her waist. About a galloon of water is inside the canteen; it's a portable water source when she isn't around water, as well as a quick drink in a pinch.

Taretha Rake grabbed the 'iced tea' (which in fact was just a glass of water) from the bartender before watching a girl, Sammie Macchia, walk in, survey her surroundings cautiously, then jump up to the rafters. Curious, Taretha took a quick swig of her water, then walked up the stairs, following Sammie.

Taretha Rake looked down at the noise of a yell, then blinked at the sight of a bleeding woman surrounded by a woman. She tilted her head sideways, wondering what was going on, before reason struck her and she jumped down, already mentally focusing. She ran over to her previous table, grabbed the water, and dashed back, almost spilling some of the water. Taretha looked the injured woman over for a second, before wiggling her pinkies. The water in the glass splashed over the rim and floated over to the invalid, washing over her head and cleaning out some of the wound.

Taretha Rake had been washing Serenity's wound up until the paramedics came. With the invalid gone, she grabbed her glass and walked over to the bar, sheepishly asking for a refill. After downing about a half-dozen glasses, Taretha walked over to Ishae again and thanked her-- "Very smooth on the pickup, I didn't even see where you got that phone from. What's your name, by the way?"

Taretha Rake nodded, seeing the intelligence in her words, and mentally marking her down as a 'good person.' With that being said, she downed yet another glass of water and walked back to the bar. She took a seat next to Sophia Voth. Ordering a water, she glanced at the woman and muttered, "So here we are, the only two people not consuming alcohol. Funny business it is." She momentarily shuddered, as the feeling of another consciousness entering hers came and went.

Taretha Rake sighed in disgust. "Then that makes only one of us. Sobriety is a lonely word..." Taking the glass of water gratefully, she sipped it with what was a dignified silence (well, it bloody hell wasn't, but she could fake it better than a porn star.) "The days are getting drier and drier, it seems. Not that anyone else would notice," Taretha whispered to herself, not noticing as Roach neared closer to her. She wiggled in her seat, and a slight bulge appeared in her left pocket.

Taretha Rake felt one of the most unpleasant of feelings, that of being watched. She looked back and couldn't find anyone looking directly at her, although there were a couple people approaching the bar, as they were given to on days like this. She swivelled back around in her seat with a sigh, and the bulge in her left pocket shifted out a bit more. Grasping her glass of water firmly, Taretha chugged half the drink and wiped her mouth with the underside of her arm.

Taretha Rake waltzed into the bar with a cheery expression on her face, wearing plainclothes for once. She slapped her sneakers down with every step she took, causing an undue amount of attention to be drawn to her; if she noticed such, she clearly didn't show it. In a couple of seconds she had made her way up to the bar, acquired her usual water, and surveyed the bar's populace.

Taretha Rake walked into the bar, her hair now french-braided. Her gait was a bit lopsided, as though she had suffered a leg wound recently, then slowed as she made her way towards the bar. "A wat--" she started, but didn't even have the chance to complete her sentence before a glass of said liquid was shoved in her face, and with a snort, she grabbed it and tilted it so that a few drops splattered on her other hand and onto the floor. Immediately upon hitting her hand, the water evanescenced away to a small mist cloud about the size of her palm. Taretha scanned the room, and upon finding no one she knew, shrugged and sidled over to one of the people that looked as though he or she was drinking alone for the night.

Taretha Rake brightened as the man turned to her. Finally, someone who wanted to talk to her. "Just fine, and you?" she answered, marking this person down as a good one. She placed the glass of water on the tabletop and took a seat, the misty apparition moving to her lap.

Taretha Rake shrugged. "I'm not a fan of beer. It's crude. Champagne is the only drink I'd really try, but it's unhealthy and it clogs the mind." Inwardly she shuddered at the smoke rings, and masked her disgust by taking a sip of the cool, fresh water. Ahh. That was better.

Taretha Rake nodded gratefully at Jack Jester. "If you did, that would be delightful. A matter of hygiene, of course," she added as an afterthought, before being suddenly interrupted by one Chance Reil. She turned around in her seat, placing a hand into the glass of water, and inclined her head towards him. "The 'pretty lady' is perfectly fine today, thank you for asking." The water in the glass began to steam, and the wisps of vapour already coming out began to form into more mist clouds.

Taretha Rake returned her attention to Jack, attempting to ignore Chance's jibe. She put on a smile and replied, "I'm a regular here, really. I've not been coming as often as I can since I've been preparing for the Grassroots... and you?" At Chance mentioning his name, she swivelled her head around and considered just holding a (dignified?) silence, but decided against it; perpetual felicity was always one of her flaws. "Taretha. Nice to meet you, Chance."

Taretha Rake shook her head no. "It's a tournament of sorts, naturally. I'm not going to be a physical fighter, of course..." She hesitated, then added, quietly, "I'm a mage. It's commonplace around Gambit's Bar, but so are... people who don't like us for it." She gazed upwards at the ceiling for a few seconds, then had her concentration interrupted by a man with a gasmask stepping heavily towards the bar. She narrowed her eyes, turned in her seat towards him, and said with a hint of annoyance, "Can you not?"

Taretha Rake responded with a slight smile. "Thanks a lot. If you can, though, can you not spread it around? I know lots of people parade it around as if it's something to be so very proud of. I've got a couple enemies who all know me as that wind and water witch... if I don't keep hush they'll put me on a cross and stab my heart with a silver stake," she joked wryly.

Taretha Rake blinked at Jack's sudden departure, and accepted the card with a "thank you", placing it in the back pocket of her jeans, before grabbing the champagne from the barmaid who had brought it to her. She almost dropped it at the sound of an explosion, and took a quick swig before she actually did. Taretha placed the glass on the table, waving as Jack left the establishment, then continued to watch the man who had evidently hacked Reality and teleported inside. "Funny, I thought Rigel had set up the anti-teleportation spell well enough..." As Razor walked in, she turned her attention to the woman and smiled, waving the woman over. "Hey! Remember me? Sorry for having to leave so urgently the other day."

Taretha Rake pouted at being ignored by Rae, then continued to watch the bar fill up very quickly. She heard a couple "Sorries" and saw a few winces, then made an "I give up" hand movement and walked out of the bar, still limping oh-so-slighlty.

Taretha Rake walked in with a swagger, wearing a black-and-white mosaic dress. She went over to the dusty stage near the back of Gambit's and slipped behind the curtain. Once there, she began setting up things for the concert she and a couple other people would perform today. "Stand over there, stand over there, stand over there, we'll need a seat for me..." she muttered softly, then came out, cupping her mouth. "Has anyone seen my triangle?"

Taretha Rake suddenly rose up from her seat, unnoticed in the bar until this pivotal point. "Gay is a sexual orientation, not an insult. And if you say that word again in a bad way, you're going to rue the day you were born," she hissed at Vampiric Rage.

Taretha Rake blinked and hastily dodged Ashleena, who at this point had suddenly flown into the table where she had just gotten out of her seat. She gave the woman a quizzical look, then walked over and extended a hand. "Are you alright?"

Taretha Rake nodded gravely at Adam Hets; she'd encountered many a situation like this before. She was just about to continue reprimanding Vampiric Rage before ROBCOP zoomed onto the scene and began to make warning noises and monotone sentences. With a sigh, she got back to her seat.
