Taretha Rake

An elemental summoner, focusing upon the use of water and air.

0 · 1,564 views · located in The Infinite Void

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by Guest, as played by Discipline

Description

Taretha has amber-coloured hair and sea-blue eyes. She has a frail build-- a bit skinny, and even now showing some symptoms of osteoporosis. Normally behind her is a troupe of small clouds, each about the size of one's hand.
She normally wears a royal blue robe and high heels, explaining the clackity-clackity noises she makes whilst walking, although often discards them when in battle, preferring instead a T-shirt, what these queer Earthlings call 'jeans', and a pair of sandals.

Personality

In terms of position on the good-evil axis, Taretha probably falls a bit closer to the 'evil' side than the 'good' side. She has a rather sadistic personality, and is very self-righteous at times. Often, she's conflicted as to if she's a 'good' or a 'bad' person. She still tends to look at things dichotomously; "Are you with me or against me?" is one of her favourite lines. Taretha often trusts people too easily and blindly, and while this has made her friends with many people, she's been deceived one too many times for it to be considered a plus.

Taretha has no time or interest in sex. She'd be labelled "asexual" by a psychologist, as it's not that she has some problem that makes her turn away from sex, or that she can't get a man or woman, but she literally was born with no sex drive. She doesn't spend much time thinking about this, either, as she's usually either fighting for her life or running from people who want to either crucify her or make her repent for being a 'witch.'

Equipment

As a summoner, Taretha obviously summons elementals. Their "summoning" is in fact an enchantment of the matter with her energy. They are controlled to a certain extent by Taretha, but as one goes down the list of controllable beings, her control over them diminishes as they become more and more willful.

Naiads; Sample image -- Image

Why yes, the creatures so fondly called "naiads" by her are merely the water in a glass given temporary sentience. She can summon approximately fifty such separate beings, and merge and separate them at will. Their true power is that she can, with a thought, freeze them instantly, although she can't control water in its frozen state as well. Often, she'll distract an opponent so as to not let them notice that some of her naiads have floated behind them, then freeze them and send them barreling at the back of their head. It's an effective tactic for mortal opponents.

Cirri; The 'clouds' often seen trailing behind her are in fact these, which are charged masses of air. They appear as small clouds of mist. She has almost complete control over these, and often uses them as handfree "tasers"; the eight or so that she can summon barring other summoned creatures can, when used to shock in tandem, bring down an ordinary human.

Water Servitor; Sample image -- Image

These have more control of themselves than the preceding summons, but they still must obey the will of Taretha. Both kinds of Servitors are about the size of a refrigerator. Taretha can use these as guards that will aim water and slush from their own bodies (which will slowly disappear as they use up their water) at attackers. Each attack, if it directly connects, feels like a punch by a rather hefty mortal, and might bruise. Rarely do they break skin though. She can summon four of these at max.

Aerial Servitor; They're pretty much invisible, but they kick up small current of air in their wake. If they could be seen, they'd look sort of like the water servitor, just more effervescent. They're rather willful, and don't have the shackles that bind the Water Servitors. These Servitors can blow rocks up to cobble-size at opponents or blast away incoming debris. The latter also uses up some of the air inside the Servitor. Taretha can summon three of these at max.

Hydrodragon; Sample picture -- Image

The hydrodragon looks somewhat like a Chinese dragon, except made up completely of water. She has a pretty hard time controlling even one, and if she stops controlling them they're just as apt to turn on their former controller as they are on her opponent. The hydrodragon is about an anaconda's length and can float up to 50 ft. above the ground. It can spit out a jet of water with the same force as a fire hose, or fire hail the size of grapefruits from its tail. On a great day, Taretha can control two for about 5 minutes, and one for about 20.

Hurricane; Sample picture -- Image

Despite its name, the Hurricane is more of a dust devil. Taretha has almost no control of it, and it usually just ambulates around as a hazard if she stops controlling it. The diameter of the Hurricane is about 90 ft., and it rises about 700 ft. high. It moves at about 20 mph. It contains no eye, and the farther you get in the more debris is whirling and the faster the speed of the wind is. 100 ft. out, the wind speed will be around 10 mph. 50 ft. out, the wind speed will be about 40 mph. Inside the dust devil might be 90 mph, 100. She can't sustain the Hurricane for more than 3 minutes, and the longest she's actively controlled it would be about 8 seconds. It's extremely, extremely tiring -- the Hurricane is her trump card, and if it fails she's as good as dead.

Taretha has acquired an air-tight, metal canteen strapped around her waist. About a galloon of water is inside the canteen; it's a portable water source when she isn't around water, as well as a quick drink in a pinch.

Taretha Rake blinked at his words. "Curious," she whispered, more to herself than anything, then began to explain. "According to historians on this world -- that is, Grimore -- life on that planet began from exogenesis. That is. It came from another planet. Apparently they've kept lineage records dating back to Terra. I dunno what you're talking about."

Taretha Rake glanced around at the bar populace before producing a bag of popcorn from absolutely nowhere and beginning to munch on it as she spotted many of what appeared to be pepper shakers right by Roushouga.

Taretha Rake walked into Gambit's with a dour look on her face, her arms determinedly against her sides, her fists clenching and unclenching rapidly. She felt the sting as her fingernails bit deep down into her flesh with every clench, but unflinchingly continued to do so until she suddenly swung her head to the side, wondering why harsh words were suddenly being thrown about.
Her anger against the universe sated for the moment, she inconspicuously drew up to the pair, Ali and Naazmat, and leaned up against a nearby table. Clearly, she hadn't learnt the virtue of not eavesdropping.

Taretha Rake raised a brow at the two of them, as one accused the other of what Taretha thought were rather unreasonable charges. She entertained the idea of leaving the two of them together -- she was quite partial to watching a good fight, no doubt about that -- then noted the age of Tahira Ali. No matter her lack of adult morals or maturity, she couldn't just leave an old woman like that.
She slunk over to the duo, quickly slapping a smile onto her face, and started speaking English in a slight accent. As far as she remembered from her old days, everyone who looked vaguely human either spoke English or Grimorean, and since she had yet to witness any violent displays of magic...
"Would either of you perchance be interested in a little small talk? I can tell you two are both very well acquaintanted with each other," she interrupted, then grabbed a chair from a nearby table and placed it in the proximity of the two.
She was hoping that discussions of morals, violence, and killing people weren't their idea of small talk.

Taretha Rake shook her head no with a slight air of confusion, and followed Naazmet's nonverbal direction towards the wanted posters. Through the usual mess of brigands, robbers, and serial murderers, she found herself looking at a rather accurate likeness of the older woman before her.
Again, she was confused, although for a completely different reason, now.
"Why is she still, you know, here? Don't they have anything similar to police here at Wing City?" she enquired of Naazmat, biting her lip. "And what did you do?" Taretha questioned Tahira Ali

Taretha Rake bit her lip, lines creasing on her face. She didn't quite know what an 'American' was, but she didn't think it was a particularly nice thing to call anyone. At Naazmat's full disclosure of the facts, she blinked -- she couldn't pull off saying such a thing like that so brusquely herself.
"I... don't quite know what to say," she finally admitted, after considering what both of them had said. "Nor do I quite understand why I'm prying into this clearly dangerous matter, but that's another concern entirely. Anyway. Is there anything else I should know that may possibly endanger my life?"

Taretha Rake soon lost interest in discussing politics, and was about to return to her seat when an injured woman flopped through the door, wearing what appeared to be stripper's clothing.
For a moment she was inclined to leave her be, but as Kisa ran over, Taretha felt her almost nonexistent moral fibres telling her to help.
And so she did.
Taretha ambled over to the girl, then took her titanium canteen out from her side and uncapped it. She muttered an incantation, and water rose up out of the canteen. With a sigh, she sent it to cover the girl's visibble wounds momentarily, and with a thought, the water froze over her wounds. It wasn't healing her, but it was a decent form of hemostasis -- at least, for now.

Taretha Rake narrowed her eyes.
So there were bigots here as well as there.
"Fine," she muttered bluntly, and left the scene, the frost covering the girl's wounds melting into water. She hoped it didn't sting.
Actually, now that Taretha thought about it, she hoped it did stick. It'd serve the rude bitch right.

And with that being done, she stomped out of the door.

Taretha Rake trudged into the bar with a weary expression on her face. She looked up dumbly as Click murdered someone in cold blood, and wondered vaguely what was going on.
Not another bar fight...

She uncapped her water canteen and sent a flow of water shooting out towards the man.

Taretha Rake turned her attention away from Click to Giselle, who had apparently just materialised within a table.

Hey, if the shoe fits...

She glanced back to Click momentarily as he dug a ditch in the floor for no apparent reason. The jet of water -- she was careful to note that, not a simple river, a jet -- continued to fly towards the man, but Taretha turned before she saw the effects.
"May I ask why you just appeared within a table?" she enquired of Giselle, as though asking about the weather or another mundane subject.

Taretha Rake was rather concerned about the recent turn of events.
And then she winced. Who on Grimore was playing that goddawful beat? It was... ugh, atrocious!
She felt the need to kill someone today.

Thankfully, however, she had more maturity than the average juvenile bar-goer (who, in fact, should technically be too young to purchase alcohol, let alone be surrounded by other people consuming it), and held her rage inside.

Cue trumpets.

Taretha grimaced as she swung her legs boredly to and fro under one of the circular tables. She looked around every so often, looking in vain for someone she knew (really, she couldn't understand her need to go to Gambit's without a conversation partner), and let out a sigh after a couple searches.
She snapped her fingers for a barmaid, and a glass of cool, clear water was pushed into her hands. She snapped again, and a newspaper entitled The Private Eye was placed gently in front of her. With a quizzical eye, she inspected the headline -- "Morgue Inhabitant Declared Dead".

Taretha Rake glanced upwards, then all around confusedly as the voice spoke to her. Why would a child be here, in such a grimy, nasty place?
"Hello?" she asked a bit spacedly. "What're you doing here in this disgusting, creepy establishment?"

Taretha Rake looked around confusedly again, noting that a couple other people in the bar seemed to be hearing the same childlike voice again, judging from their reactions. "Who are you, and how do you know my name?" she asked to the air around her.

let out a hacking cough as she pushed her way through the Bar's doors, her face having an unpleasant lime-green cast to it. She stopped for a moment in the middle of the floor, inhaled deeply, and suddenly broke out into a coughing fit again. After a good thirty seconds, she finally stopped, trodded over to the bar, and croaked out a request:
"A water with a Pepto-Bismol, please."

Taretha Rake looked drearily up at JoJo Emmerson as she waited for her glass. Her stomach growled as she addressed the man in a pathetic voice:
"Amazing observation, captain Obvious."

Hey, just because she was sick doesn't mean she couldn't be a bitch.

A slightly fizzy glass of water was placed in front of her, and she downed it without a second thought.

Having ordered another medicine-laced glass of water, Taretha groaned softly in her seat. If nausea didn't overtake her today, her sudden headache might.
As Tessa strolled up to the bar stool beside her, Taretha raised a brow, and attempted to swivel the chair counterclockwise to face the schoolgirl and what appeared to be a giant mound of books.

"What're you doing here with a billion textbooks, girl?" she enquired, wincing slightly at the sound of her own voice.

Taretha Rake blinked. Homework? Was the girl in high school or something?

"Erm... right," she muttered under her breath, then took the glass that the barkeep had so generously refilled with more fizzy water. "I'm grblgrh," she stated, drinking and attempting to speak at the same time, creating an odd sound somewhat akin to a waterfall. "How're you?" she added, taking [b]Tessa's hand with her left and rubbing her own stomach with the other. The green tint to her body seemed to be fading, replaced by a much more health-ful looking pinkish one.
Speaking of unrelated topics, why did this girl seem so familiar...?

Taretha Rake creased her forehead as Tessa rattled on, nonchalantly, about being a dark mage or warlock (or however one wished to style the phrase.) Wasn't she a bit... young to be considering that? Taretha wasn't the type to pry, but she was, to put it lightly, a mite concerned for the girl.
"That's very... nice," she finally said, barely hiding a trace of disgust in her voice. She tried to disguise it as merely an artifact of her inflection -- she'd done it before with much older warlocks, although there was the distinct possibility that they had just gone a bit senile.
She looked again at Nina Honda, then, as Chalie entered the establishment, gave her a meaningful look. Too many people in this place.
