Description

Image
A TOAST to the Fools!
Pierrot, Pantaloon,
Harlequin, Clown,
Merry-Andrew, Buffoon--
Touchstone and Triboulet--all of the tribe.--
Dancer and jester and singer and scribe.
We sigh over Yorick--(unfortunate fool,
Ten thousand Hamlets have fumbled his skull!)--
But where is the Hamlet to weep o'er the biers
Of his brothers?
And where is the poet solicits our tears
For the others?
They have passed from the world and left never
a sign,
And few of us now have the courage to sing
That their whimsies made life a more livable
thing--
We, that are left of the line,
Let us drink to the jesters--in gooseberry wine!

Then here's to the Fools!
Flouting the sages
Through history's pages
And driving the dreary old seers into rages--
The humbugging Magis
Who prate that the wages
Of Folly are Death--toast the Fools of all ages!
They have ridden like froth down the whirlpools
of time,
They have jingled their caps in the councils of
state,
They have snared half the wisdom of life in a
rhyme,
And tripped into nothingness grinning at fate--
Ho, brothers mine,
Brim up the glasses with gooseberry wine!

Though the prince with his firman,
The judge in his ermine,
Affirm and determine
Bold words need the whip,
Let them spare us the rod and remit us the
sermon,
For Death has a quip

Of the tomb and the vermin
That will silence at last the most impudent lip!
Is the world but a bubble, a bauble, a joke?
Heigho, Brother Fools, now your bubble is broke,
Do you ask for a tear?--or is it worth while?
Here's a sigh for you, then--but it ends in a smile!
Ho, Brother Death,
We would laugh at you, too--if you spared us the
breath!

Wherever Daemala would be, he would be close behind. She of all people knew how he got in such situations and since there was a 'chain of command' to follow, her being his sire and all, he decided it best to wait upon her before doing anything...

He began to make his move once he saw Daemala attack... Knife out, hand wielding with surgical precision as he made his way through the crowd; cutting, slicing and stabbing anyone who came close enough. He didn't stop to drink, or to finish... He just turned on the crimson sprinklers, ensuring himself soaked within the blood of his surrounding victims with glee similar to Augustus Gloop and the chocolate river.

He drank where he could, of course... Mostly from pickings of his fingers that dribbled down into his upward-tilted, open mouth... Or from sprays that flew into his open lips. He had his mask pulled up to just below his nose to feed and had already left at least a dozen around him dead, dying or screaming in their own fluids.

Now both freezing and shivering, Harlequin let himself collapse into the pools around him with shudders and groans of relief...
Banging war drums finally died down, his eyes glazed over with sweet silver clouds. He was drenched; damp in blood. His bed was a puddle.. Or rather, a river.

He had killed so many... Injured more... He was filled up already, yet not one of his victims had been drained and he personally left not a single sign of vampirism. This was a simple killing spree... Done in his name. No doubt that's how it would be reported...

The Harlequin slipped out during the chaos; disappearing into the night...

The Harlequin looked up from where he had seated himself along the side of the entrance hall, at a small chair and single-person decorative table.

"Hello..." He grumbled.

The Harlequin sat down besides the woman, as usual. "What needs to be discussed?" He asked, still a slight growl in his voice.

"I suggest we take a sheet of white linen and spill a human's blood on it via an artistic wound... We could then centre the rest of the crest around it?" He suggested, deciding to take her seriously considering how long she had been eager to get this over with.

"I also like the idea of my mask being used..."

"I told you all what we could do to cover the hunt up before we left," Harlequin replied with a frown as he wandered in. "Or was it just to Daemala? Honestly I'm not sure. This is what we should have done: used knives, not fangs to spill blood. Do not drain dry, merely suckle then move on. We should have also left bloodied bodies and a very big mess. That way they would have thought it was a simple mass murder rather than a hunt."

He sighed a little, then made to slide down into a seat. "I vividly recall requesting these things so that I, a well known theatrical mass murderer, would take the blame instead of a clan of vampires."

The Harlequin began to chuckle a little. "They caught a werewolf? Well Daemala caught a Harlequin. I fancy our chances."

He was so full of himself.

"Why are Werewolves so scary, anyway? If it can bleed it can die. Probably easily, too." He explained while rubbing the back of his head and leaning back in his chair.

"Really? Well, just set up a trap or something and it's as good as dead. It doesn't matter how strong or intelligent it is. We can get it, we just need the right plan."

He peered over at Daemala...

"Yeah, I heard. You're sending someone to go fight it. All very thorough, and all. I just don't expect it to work." He yawned a little.

The Harlequin entered, a grin on his face that stretched his mask to strange proportions. It managed to be both thrilled, solemn and downright unnerving all at the same time.

"Not returned?" He asked. "Did I not say he would fail? You should listen to your dear little Harlequin more, darling Daemala."

The Harlequin let his face fall into a frown. "I never said I could do it. I could try, of course... But dog blood isn't as satisfying as human... The fact you would so willingly throw me to where my life is in danger just because I displayed what may seem like arrogance?"

He almost looked as though he was going to cry. Of course, he was just using it as an excuse to hug Daemala and bury his mask into her chest. Which he tried.
