Government Center

a part of The Multiverse, by RemĂŠus.

You have entered a towering white building with Greek, Turkish, and Moorish architectural influences. It has white columns as well as domes, spires, and Moorish archways with thin pillars. Inside, the floors are a peach-colored marble, the ceilings reaching, and the lights soft and low, allowing the multitude of windows to filter natural light into the space. To venture past the lobby, one must pass through a metal detector and x-ray scanner, and receive a visitor's pass from the security booth. There is a marked military presence, as the TAF has assigned a small unit to provide additional security in the wake of an elevated security threat. A row of golden-doored elevators leads upstairs.

Ylanne holds sovereignty over Government Center, giving them the ability to make limited changes.

Ed Cranford 's secretary nodded at Chaska and Raphael. "Go right on inside, last door on the right hand side." She pointed down a hallway.

Cranford frowned at Fazari as he replaced the receiver in the cradle. "I'm sure she has good reason," he reassured himself, running his fingers through the thick white hair that framed his face. He glanced at the blinking light on the phone. "It seems the Aschen are here."

Raphael McGregor quietly waited to be shown into the inner office, saying nothing in his wait, only plotting and planning his next move, milling plans in his head before he stared directly at a overhead film map of the local region. "This is going to be a pill to fortify." He said, nodding to the Secratery before he adjusted his tie and moved forward, with the Defense minister behind him.

"Minister Cranford, a pleasure to finally meet you in person, I am Chairman McGregor.. this is Minister Chaska, I trust your day has been as pleasant as it has been productive?" The former admiral was laying on the charm thick, and it showed.

Helene Chaska inclined her head. "Chairman McGregor has the finer details of our proposal, I trust you will wisely agree with it." She said, extending her hand. "Helene Chaska, Minister of Defense."

Ed Cranford rose from his seat behind the desk and strode powerfully toward Raphael and Chaska, taking each of their hands in turn with a firm grip and a nod. "A pleasure to make your acquaintances as well, Chairman, Minister. This is Ahmad Fazari, from the Intelligence Bureau." Cranford motioned to Ahmad, who rose and offered his hand first to Raphael and then to Chaska. Both Terrans were dressed in identical dark, plain suits, looking very much like your average overworked and frustrated government employees.

Raphael McGregor nodded. "Excellent, shall we get down to business? Do you perchance have a projector of some kind? If not I can utilize a holographic projector and my personal computron." He said, turning to Chaska. Then he inclined his head.

"I have a multi-faceted plan that will require the cooperation of your government, with the objectives to secure the Local Region and Terran space, I have two objectives, one assigned to me by the LDA, and the other, right off of Roslin's desk."

"No, that's fine," said Ahmad, sitting in the armchair again. He watched Raphael curiously. "Normally, meetings are held in briefing rooms, but the Prime Minister is hosting you here due to the urgency expressed in your contact earlier today. It was a bit late to reserve space elsewhere in Government Center." He rested his chin on his hands, blinking at the Aschen man.

"What exactly is this plan addressing, Chairman McGregor?" asked Cranford, seating himself on the side of the desk facing the others. He assumed a look of nonchalance as he waited for Raphael to start the holoprojection.

Raphael McGregor nodded then he withdrew a holocron from his briefcase, the silver metallic sphere would be set in the center of the room, then he held up his portable computron. "Could someone get the lights?" He said, and when the lights dimmed, the entire room filled with ships, and a depiction of Terra was hovering above the floor and the holocron, with the entire solar system orbiting in the office.

"This is sol, and every ship within it." He said before he tapped an icon on his computron.

"Firstly, an individual known as blackjack has surfaced on Terra, in Wing City." He said, the region highlighted and zoomed in on the planet.

"It has become my main objective to apprehend this individual and ensure he does not leave Terra, however I need your cooperation to do so, Parliament has ordered a complete orbital blockade in coordination with the ships of your world."

It was then Aschen ships were seen coming into the holographic projection, approaching Terra.

It was a large fleet, one Reverence II, several first generation Reverences, Battlestars and CNVs, a planetary assault fleet, they flashed out after a moment and appeared above the planet in a typical blockade formation, along with green triangles to depict Terran ships.

"It's very simple, nothing comes or goes without being searched thoroughly."

Ed Cranford raised an eyebrow. "Why exactly is this individual of importance? Why ought I to care about one person whose name, quite frankly, I do not even recognize?" Cranford's tone was less biting than it was incredulous. His pale blue eyes met those of the Aschen Chairman, blinking as if he were merely asking an innocent question. But all four of them knew that that was not the case.

Raphael McGregor looked to his file, throwing it open and reading through the Anquietas text, then he brought his gaze back up to Cranford. "This individual is the single most wanted man in the Aschen Confederation, for attacks on Langara, and the murder of one of our high ranking LDA Agents." He said, narrowing his eyes. "I trust that your world won't be actively providing refuge to this individual, I am sure Khamtai won't be pleased if you decide to... shelter this individual from justice." Raphael said, something hidden in his voice.

Ed Cranford stared hard at Raphael, with all the steely obstinacy that had marked his career in the Scottish delegation prior to the formation of the Terran government. “I hope you’re not suggesting that the Terran government would be complicit in the sheltering of a fugitive and a criminal, Chairman McGregor. Rest assured that Terra will take all available steps, internally, to combat this threat. When -- not if, but when -- we find this individual, we will be more than happy to extradite him immediately to Langara to stand trial there. We cannot, however, permit tactical, non-defensive operations to occur within Terran space. You are welcome to form a blockade of the outer reaches of the system to prevent his escape, if you truly feel it necessary. But I cannot have tactical operations occurring within local space around this planet.”

Helene Chaska shook her head. "The complete blockade of space outside the system would be an extraneous burden on Aschen resources that need to be allocated elsewhere for the pertinent defense of our world. The fact of the matter is, this individual is extremely dangerous to not only the Confederation, but Terra, and your desire to deal with this threat internally would only put your world and your government in danger, cooperation is the only viable outcome that will be mutually beneficial to all parties." She said calmly.

"I don't think this is a matter of defense or sovereignty, I think you wish to use your position to stick it, maybe get your revenge by denying us the one thing that our agencies have been striving to attain for the past decade, truth be told, by not cooperating with our requests, your world is complicit in every way, harboring this individual by a neglect to actively peruse him, You can talk politics to me, and vow to do this and that, but I am a woman of results, Prime Minister, and blowing smoke up my ass won't solve anything."

Raphael McGregor nodded. "Minister Chaska has a point, we both have orders to attain results, the complete termination of this individual and his organization." He said, looking to the file and shaking his head, then he turned to Chaska, slipping into Anquietas. "Non sunt moveri, ut eamus in lima facere teneatur." He said, shaking his head.

"Ut nihil optio discessurus sum iens ut iuberet." He added.

Cranford shook his head. “You want to talk politics, you talk to Parliament during session. That’s politics; that’s politicking. You come to me and threaten and insult, and that will get you nowhere. I don’t think you realize the gravity of your situation. I have told you, Minister Khamtai has told you, our government will take all possible measures it can to locate and apprehend this individual as soon as possible -- that is not refusing to actively pursue him. You don’t seem to think that’s enough. That’s fine. It doesn’t matter what you think, because I am the one making the decisions for Terra, and not you. You don’t seem to think we care about protecting our own security. I assure you, national security is the highest priority of this government, and nothing you say to me, in this room or to the public, is going to change that reality.”

Helene Chaska puffed up some. "And the National Security of the Aschen Confederation is the number one priority for myself, after all, I am the Minister of Defense." She said, flipping open the black file in her hands and then reading over it. "If Blackjack slips off this world, your government will be held responsible." She said, before she pulled out a small black envelope from the file, and then she handed it to Raphael.

"Chairman McGregor, you will execute this directive." She then turned back to Cranford. "If you won't help us, then we're done here."

Raphael McGregor nodded. "Parliament has allocated the proper funding?" He asked, taking the envelope and sliding it into one of his pockets.

"I'm sorry that your government is reluctant to help, it's a shame because it will probably impact future relations, and with not only a Belkan threat, but an Oligarchy threat. Your world needs as many allies as it can get, consider the Aschen Confederation withdrawing all military assets from your world, additionally we will not render any assistance in the event of foreign incursion.. I'll be passing the word to the Solace docked at Saturn to return to Confederation space."

Cranford stared down at Chaska from his decidedly intimidating height, offering the smallest of nods -- one of acknowledgement, and that alone. “Ahmad? Please show the gentleman and lady out,” he said, motioning for the younger man to lead Raphael and Chaska through the maze of the offices leading to Cranford’s personal office. Neither Aschen could have possibly understood the complexity of domestic politics on Terra and the political climate influencing Parliament’s policies.

Ahmad rose from where he was seated, heading toward the closed door to lead the two Aschen from the inner office.

Raphael McGregor heaved a heavy sigh before he withdrew his phone, putting it to his ear he dialed the number of a heavily encrypted line to an undisclosed location. "This is Chairman McGregor, patch me through to Admiral Corman." He said as he walked, then he narrowed his eyes.

"Admiral, I need you to execute your black file order, you already have the details." He said before he flipped the phone closed, turning back to glance at the Prime Minister for a moment, before he continued out of the office.

Ahmad Fazari led Chaska and Raphael through Cranford’s offices, and as they passed empty, darkened offices and emerged into the secretary’s desk in the front of the wing, Ahmad nodded toward the two Aschen. “I trust you can find your way to the front door downstairs?” he asked, opening the door into the marble-floored hallway. The elevator doors in the hall dinged open, and Arianne Drulović appeared, clutching a dark blue folder with the TIB’s seal embossed on the front. “Director,” said Ahmad in surprise. “Is that for me or the Prime Minister?”
