Mitsuhide was the first born male of the Akechi family, the 7th of 9 children. They were nobility in the Island Of Hapón and as such his life was rather simple. Unlike the less fortunate he had private tutors teach him art and music, how to fight, how to be a man of honor, etc. Despite this he would still find time to be a child and run about with his friends causing both mischief and having their own adventures
. As he grew he took an interest in the affairs of the country, dabbling in the game that the noble families played and even gained the office of Head of Local Affairs, bettering his own and the status of his family in the Haneda clan by catering well to the people. When the land succumbed to the chaos of civil war, he abandoned his title and took up arms with the Clan, whom at first sided with the Emperor and eventually decided that he was too weak and sought to unite Hapón under the Haneda clan.
Mitsuhide served under his father, who was an officer, with his two brothers Ranmaru and Hideyoshi. For much of the fighting, Mitsuhide was usually placed behind the front lines with his brothers, his father not sure if they were ready for war just yet. However at the Siege of Hino, there was a shortage of supplies. Rather than retreat, the Akechi Trio volunteered to lead a force of men out of the walled town to confiscate the enemies food. For 9 nights straight Mitsuhide and his brothers brought back supplies stolen from the enemy and even managed to return with the head of three enemy officers, one who was identified as the second in command of the besieging commander. From then on his father had no doubt in and took him to the front along with his brothers.
Mitsuhide got the chance to prove himself yet again when he and the men of Akechi, marched ahead of the army and secured a series of bridges vital to their advance before the enemy could fortify them. Then, after being forced to retreat, they held the last bridge till Shogun Kenshin Haneda himself and the rest of the surviving army and had departed from the battlefield. The Shogun was impressed and made him his personal bodyguard, a position of great prestige.
The War continued and despite some setbacks the Haneda clans power had grown as had the Akechi family status within the clan, they were in the top three beneath the main family, the other two being the Mori, the Takeda . His father had died, Akechi was placed in charge of the family, him being the eldest male. He and the elders as well as the heads of other lesser families had been talking about the upcoming battle. The Battle of Jonihi, a move against their ally, the Toyotomi Clan. Many of them did not favor this and advised against it but were ignored. Mitsuhide had tried to talk Lord Kenshin out of it on their, and his own, behalf but he was waved aside. The heads of the Mori and Takeda siding with the Shogun. Mitsuhide, not wanting tk betray his allies sent letters to the other families whom he spoke with telling them of what action they would take.
Mitsuhide marched with his men to Jonihi but remained passive till they Breached. He joined his Lord in battle but to fight against him with the aid of the lesser families that opposed the decision to betray their allies. Though he did slay his Lord and saved the city, what would later be called the Incident at Jonihi was a tragedy for all involved. Mitsuhide soon found himself fighting against both the Haneda and the Toyotomi. He also had to kill his two brothers who remained loyal to Kenshin as well as others near to him.
In the end, all three forces were beaten and scattered. Full of regret and shame, Mitsuhide attempted to end his life to preserve his honor but did not go through with it in the end, adding more to his shame. He snuck off the Island and went to the east in hopes of starting a new life and perhaps even redeeming himself in his own eyes but his past seems to always haunt him....in more ways than one.
