When in danger, planning for battle, or the thick of naval combat, Jenaro has a level headed almost predatory aura about him. Focusing completely on the task being presented to him, the completion of which, most of the time his life depends on. In the thick of it, setbacks donât affect him at all and when focused on something he would still be crawling toward his goal if he was cleaved in two and bleeding out.
When he doesn't have a clear goal, or there is downtime, Jenaro becomes much more introspective and calm. Mostly spending his time thinking on his own or inspecting various facets of his ship. Though he still is able to keep up a polite and commanding attitude because of his position as captain.
Despite his natural tenacity, when he does occasionally experience hopelessness he doesnât take it well. It generally breaks him down to caring for virtually nothing and being relatively useless. Though the times this has happened in his life canât be counted more than one hand.
Jenaro was born in a inland castle so far from the ocean he never saw it until he was seven. His father was the âkingâ of that castle. Though the man had little real autonomy as his land had been conquered by a nearby realm within the past few generations. Technically the so called âkingâ was supposed to have autonomy over his own lands, but he was little more than a figurehead. Still, the man had enough power to easily get away with adultery. Which ended in the birth of Jenaro.
At first, being the âkingâsâ only son, Jenaro was treated with kindness and attention by his father. That was until his fatherâs wife finally gave birth to a legitimate son. When his father lost interest in the young boy, the child had no allies left. Even his mother had never showed much interest in the boy because the Queen made it abundantly clear early her distaste for the Kingâs bastard. Jenaroâs mother was a survivor more than a mother and wasnât about to tangle with a noble.
Just around a year after Jenaroâs half brother was born, the Queen convinced Jenaroâs father to send the boy away. So his father disowned him, having previously legitimized him as his own, and sent the boy away. Lucky for Jenaro though, his father wasnât a completely inept diplomat. The king âvolunteeredâ his first son for a position in the Royal Navy of the country which de facto ruled his. It was supposed to look like a symbol of loyalty. It worked somewhat to that regard, but the situation and Jenaroâs identity was quickly forgotten. However, due to the relative high profile of the arrangement, Jenaro became the cabin boy for a Vice Admiral. Albeit a rather low profile one.
Pocotae was the name of the Vice Admiral. He was in charge of scouting, pirate hunting, and pirating against hostile countries on the edge of the territory controlled by the Royal Navy. The nature of these duties were primarily carried out by a single ship, though occasionally Pocotae had a few other ships from the Royal Navy assisting.
Pocotae was a good commander and a decent, so in a short time Jenaro began to look up to the man as a father figure. And if Pocotae was the boyâs father, then Roland was his mother. Roland was the researcher assigned to the ship. The man was charged with a combination of duties from checking and improving territory maps to sampling local goods to see if they could benefit the Country. Though a large majority of his time was spent with Jenaro, tutoring the boy in as many scholarly subjects as possible.
When Jenaro turned seventeen, Pocotae died. It was not like Jenaro wasn't used to death, he had long since become adjusted the death of crewmates. Even Roland had passed away three years previous. So Jenaro steeled himself and carried on. Though at the death of Pocotae, it turned out that not only would the ship be decommissioned, but the crew would be refused pay. So the crew, the new captain and Jenaro at his new position of co-captain, made the decision to defect and become unaligned pirates. So they set sail under the black flag in the newly renamed ship, âThe Red Saberâ.
In has been three years since Jenaro has become the Captain of The Red Saber.
