Eon stayed still as she waited for her to speak. Have I left her speechless? When Hellfire finally spoke, she stared at her for a few seconds. Her lips twitched as she tried to keep her face expressionless. Eon listened as she cleared her initial thoughts of what she just said. Her thoughts stopped when Meg finally asked a question. She ignored the gooseflesh she felt on her skin. Eon shifted from her sitting position. Slowly, to not startle Hellfire, she moved to the edge of the bed. She thought of standing, but instead she leaned back and stretched her legs out over the bed. She looked up at Meg. Her fingers gripped the sheets as she tried to think of the simplest answer to her question. She closed her eyes. The last question she wanted to answer was this one.
āWell, according to themā¦ā she paused to take in another deep breath, āā¦because I lost and destroyed valuable property. I stole important property and information. Translation, I helped experiments, or like they called them, research participants, escape. Also, when I was about to help the l-ā She couldnāt help the shutter that ran through her body. Eon stood up, opened her eyes, and walked around Hellfire. Eon went to the window and looked at the stars. āWell, before I could even help the last one escape, my sister caught me. She said sheād help me get this last one outā¦I decided Iād leave with h-, it,ā she said. Her heartbeat pounded against her chest, like a trapped and frantic beast.
āEverything went wrong with trying to get it out,ā she said. She crossed her arms and swallowed. āBefore s-, it died..sh-, it gave me something. It is a living thing that lives inside of me now. It gave me my ability to heal. It lived in h-, the experiment before. Now I am responsible for it. I prom-ā she gasped, cutting off her sentence suddenly. She couldnāt talk about it fully still. Eon bit her bottom lip and blinked quickly so tears wouldnāt fall. Eon felt overwhelmed as too many emotions ran through her at once. She was able to brush most of the memories away that tried to come to the forefront. Eon took slow deep breaths until she stopped shaking. She hadnāt even notice she had started to.
She only stayed silent for a few seconds though. Eon felt as if she said too much. It felt nice to tell someone something, but she felt raw, vulnerable, now. She likely just told the unfriendliest person on the ship as well. Eon didnāt want to start a fight with Hellfire, but she just thought of how she was to be assigned to the med bay. Also, she needed a change in topic. She was done with questions for the day. Eon already knew she wouldnāt be able to sleep after this lovely conversation.
āOne more thing. I am not telling you what to do, but I would strongly advise you donāt move me to the med bay. I am not good with people. I donāt like touching them or being touched by them. Itās one of my issues...Iāll help whenever we encounter Et Salvos, but it would be best to not assign me there,ā she paused, āI can help in the med bay if ever needed, if it doesnāt involve my powers, but Iāve been told my hands arenāt meant to touch anything living. They are only meant for machines I have been told. I helped in a med bay before and there were complaints. Living things are much more complicated than machines. Speaking of machines...ā
āWhen are we landing? Iād like to check out the rudders, especially after Bansheeās turns,ā she added as she turned around to face Hellfire.
