The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

Welcome to The Royal Academy for Etheric Engineering and Alchemical Studies. Join the illustrious students as the architects of tomorrow.

1,362 readers have visited The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick since Hal_Wannabe created it.

Introduction

It's been a scant 27 years since The Alchemist revealed his greatest achievement and changed the face of the British Empire. Etherium a source of power that far outstrips the gas and coal of yesteryear. The Empire has changed. Only two nations have made steps in the same direction and as Britain, they guard their secrets jealously. The Royal Academy for Etheric Engineering and Alchemical Studies presides over this change.

The current headmaster is Dr. Nicholas Frink, known more often as Dr. Arachnick for his obsession with spiders. It is a name he relishes in and uses to introduce himself. He also holds position as the personal mechanic to the Clockwork Queen, she who has extended her life through the machines created at the Academy.

The Empire is powerful without but fractured within. The Commoner King attracts more men to his banner each day and it is only a matter a time before he and his revolt against Her Majesty, the Queen. She fends off her own family as they struggle more and more under her mechanical thumb. Spies try to steal the secrets to your mechanical marvels for auction to both rival engineers and enemy nations.

The Academy is currently home to a grand research project that's attempting to mass produce Etherium without the need for Alchemists, something that upsets many and excites a few.

Men who have made the switch from flesh to clockwork roam the streets, but the Etherium powering them has started to affect them.

Welcome Home. I hope you survive the experience.

Toggle Rules

Characters are of your own design. Remember that first and formost.

Alchemy is the process of taking celestial energy into oneself and manipulating it to enhance chemical reactions and physical properties, human experimentation is strictly forbidden by society's rules. Prepare for harsh consequences (or great rewards) should you dabble in this science. The amount of the general population who has the ability to be an Alchemist is less than 3%. Alchemist characters will be few but powerful, should they be able to justify their abilities with science. All Alchemists are required to join the academy since they're the only ones capable of producing Etheric Jars, the power source of the new sciences. Alchemists need a focusing device for drawing in celestial energies. In old times staffs with crystals were used which was the source of the tales of witches and warlocks. Get weird with your focus. It's supposed to be fun.

Etheric Engineering is the process of designing and animating a machine that runs on Etherium. Each Etheric Jar is custom built to run one type of machine. These are glass jars with Etherium powering cogs all across the jar. This is a powerful reagent that if inhaled can be deadly.

Gay characters are discouraged but not banned. This is set with many Victorian world views. Including that being gay is wrong. If you choose to play a gay or bi character be prepared to be ostracized should word get out about your dabbling in the love that dare not speak it's name

While women are considered more delicate, due to the lack of people who understand Etheric Engineering any woman who shows a talent for it is welcomed to the academy.

Steam. clockwork, and Etheric Jars are the tools of the Engineer, these allow the powering of the Automaton Armies of the Clockwork Queen and the many marvels that keep the nation once known as the British Empire in power.

All character's must have a basic equipment list, and in the case of Alchemists must describe how they utilize their Alchemy, from using enhanced armors and blades to pure alchemical attacks.

And this is NOT a high school roleplay, you are all intelligent human beings (unless your not) so act like it. Even if your passions do get the better of you.

Character guidelines, Automata at this point are limited machines. They are not playable.

Resurrection is up in the air at this point, if you wish to play a resurrected human, be prepared to make a good case.

Humans are fully capable of supporting mechanized parts. But beware, you may pay the price later on if Etherium starts seeping into your body.

suggestions are welcome

Nick stared at the etheric cutter in his hands the sparking and whining of it entrancing as he ran it across the metal horse hide. It would be his Masterpiece, a powerful steed made at the request of the Queen for the Rider. Yes, it would have been easier had he been able to meet the man in person, but that was the thing, two people could keep a secret if one of them was dead and all that. words that Nicholas Frink understood. He set the twirling pipes releasing the energy back into it's slot on the story tall Jar that would cut through un-enhanced metal like butter.

He pulled the goggles off his eyes as one of his mechanical arms grabbed a beaker of water for him to quench his thirst. He glanced out of the windows into the deepening twilight. It was almost time. His meeting would be starting soon.

Re: The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

I care not if you want to play a gay character. That's your business, but it may put undue pressure on you in-game should it come out. And you're approved. Post when you're ready. I'll wait on you.

Re: The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

Now I kinda want to play a Gay character because I think you didn't realize some of the most brilliant minds of Victorian era were gay. Okay I can only think of one, Oscar Wilde, but I think there were a few others.

Made a character!

Re: The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

No, Straight Automatons are not playable. They have very basic functions, but as mentioned there's always the options of mechanical parts, I'm up in the air about resurrected people, if you wanna make a case for them.

Re: The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

I noticed automatons are mentioned a lot and this is steampunk (which is more advanced than the regular Victorian Era),so are automatons/robots playable?

Re: The strange Academy of Dr. Arachnick

No, a short description of personality, gear and your portrait will suffice.
