A dress to the award ceremony for all of the hard work, Flo wasn't entirely sure how she felt about it. She didn't care about big festivities or anything - in truth she was pretty apathetic of it. She didn't care about being personally recognized, she didn't need the approval of others. If she did, she wouldn't have been so willing to go to heads against Doll back in the days of Director LaFleur's reign. "It looks nice on you." Harris said with a sort of goofy grin on his face the way a father would look at a daughter. Flo kind of missed their old friend dynamic though, but daddy Harris wasn't bad either. "Doll made it for me, it's like making clothes is all she does." Flo said with a half smirk, gazing at the dress adorning her figure in the reflection.

Just like how Echo's dress was red to match her eyes, Flo's was purple and white with slits in the back for her wings - amethyst for the sheen of her orbs, white for the down of her feathers. "Ah, I get it." Samurai definitely wanted to see a dress, but it wasn't hers he was looking for. "You want to see Amy, don'tcha?" The blush confirmed that suspicion and who knows? Maybe one day the lovey dovey idiots will get a daughter of their own, a real one, not like baby Zinnia, but a real daughter for the two of them. "Watch your mouth missy, you're going to a meeting with very important people! We're representing the Tower Society, so you be on your best behavior!" Flo yawned and nodded, flapping her wings. "Yeah yeah, daddy, anything you want."

Leaving their room they went down the elevator to meet up with Echo and Hawk, both of whom were decked out in their outfits as well. Echo looked nice despite how much she must hate wearing something cute like that. "Who knows, maybe some American Terra will be enamored by your dress?" The pinkette sneered at Echo before making her way into the car to go to the award ceremony. Soon after this they'd be going home - Flo and Echo both worked hard to make the Washington Branch better, some time after the Brits have gone home, the Americans would move into a bigger specialized building to fit the new support staff and demons and Jaegers that Echo recruited, that Flo trained.

The car was already here and perhaps waiting for just a bit too. "Sorry we're late." Samurai said, being the responsible one here. "I forgot to set the alarm and it takes time for Flo's spirometer." It's true, he spent too long last night on his date with Amy and didn't set the alarm, and thus they woke up late. "It'll be fine, there's still an hour before the actual ceremony." Flo said with a shrug of nonconcern, mostly eager to get this over with so they could go back home. She wasn't really homesick or anything, just eager for the next stage of their lives.

The sun was setting over the winter colored landscape. Snow flakes drifted gently to the ground, each unique, all important. The snowflakes were sticking and unlike in England, it did not turn a hideous gray, but remained soft, pale white. Echo was almost glad that the ridiculous dress Doll had designed her came with a cape to put over her shoulders, lest she'd be shivering her boots off. Samurai and Fluorspar found them in the hallway on their way to the lift. "Well, someone looks like a Barbie doll," Echo giggled, sticking her tongue out in revulsion in regard to how fruity Flo was looking. Gwentyh pushed down on Echo's head, right over where her stitches had at last dissolved. "Ouch, ouch, I'm sorry, alright!" Gwenyth let up on her. "None of your snark tonight Echo, we're meeting with a very important group of people."

Echo rolled her eyes and leaned over to whisper to Flo. "Important my arse, it's not as though we're going before the Queen." Flo retorted with a quip of her own and Echo's cheeks turned a furious scarlet. "D-don't talk about Terra!" Terra hadn't come up in Echo's mind since that strange meeting on that chilly basement day. Gwenyth smiled, getting in on the teasing. "Aw, does someone still have feelings for her?" Echo's cheeks turned a much brighter shade, however she remained silent. By the time they reached the car the driver was a shade of his own, furious at how late they were to arrive. "Come on, come on, traffic will be starting any minute we need to be on the highway before then." Echo strapped in, eager to meet the leaders of the country she was becoming fond of.

"It's going to be tough leaving this place, as much as I miss chip butties and a proper cuppa." Echo
leaned back in her seat while Gwenyth leaned forward in an attempt to sort Echo's locks. "Five hundred years old and you still haven't figured out how to sort your own hair," Echo rolled her eyes, but allowed Gwenyth to use a brush on her mane of unkempt blonde locks. "Whatever, it's not like it's important." Echo had never cared much about her hair, she would be willing to shave it off if someone suggested it. "I just want cake," Echo yawned. "What sort of sweets do you think they'll have there?" Echo inquired to Flo, swinging her legs eagerly.

"Well, I think I look cute." Flo said with self satisfaction, her wings twithing with every word she spoke. "But well, your type seems to be the big chested purple heads, though, innit?" Ah, there was nothing like a good mutual ribbing session between best friends born again from the dead, hopefully a partner and friend for as long a life as they would live together. "Um, sweets... well, there's some kind of cake, I don't remember, and then pastry squares?" The pinkette shrugged, never one for sweets herself. "I prefer savory and salty myself." Sweet and sugar was always nice, but nothing could beat fine cuisine - then again, Flo was raised in a relatively wealthy household, so growing up she had her fair share of foie gras and caviar as she pleased.

And finally they were there, not quite as on time as they should be, but they did beat the press - though they weren't the one hour early that might have otherwise been expected of them. "Nice hall, looks quaint and well built in case an enemy attacked." Flo said with an appreciative nod. They were rushed along to where they should be - considering this was as much a publicity stunt as it was an award ceremony, so they were briefed on making sure to act accordingly, not that Flo would need much instruction on how to direct herself. Echo might be a bit more of a wildcard but, all things considered, she probably wouldn't make too big of a mess here, no matter how much she despised dresses. Finally, amid the flashing cameras and the modest crowd and even a wave from the special granddaughter herself, the President began his speech, meeting the two demon children face to face, speaking to them as honored equals.

After dealing with the media in as tactful a manner as possible Flo was ready to take things easy for the rest of the day. They still had dinner - well, lunch as the Americans would call it - and then all afternoon and evening free, since today was their day off. Even if it wasn't, all of Flo and Echo's efforts ensured that the Washington Branch was now self sufficient and would be able to stand on its own two feet from now on. "Before going back to base, should we get lunch around here?" Flo asked, since otherwise they'd probably suffer from hunger during the long drive back along the highway. "Maybe explore too." Since before they know it, they'd be back in London in no time.

"Once our date with the press is over, the dinner will be starting. We can explore after," Echo rolled her eyes, of course Gwenyth wouldn't allow them to go off alone. She didn't trust Echo, knowing that Echo would be willing to turn on humans or run away if she felt like it. Echo wasn't stupid, however, she knew that she was connected to Gwenyth and if she ever tried to run away Gwenyth would come and find her, she would always find her. The only way to achieve true freedom was to live in a world with no humans, but to kill off all of the humans would mean to allow the demons to live by the laws they wanted; which would only equate to utter chaos and terror reigning supreme. "Fine," Echo sighed and turned to Flo."You're strange you know that? Preferring things like shrimp over cake." Demons were of no exception to the fact that most women adored sweets.

Echo could not comprehend why someone would not want to eat cake all day, every day. "Well to each his own I guess," Echo rolled her shoulders and resumed her position of looking out the windows. "What's that?" Echo wrinkled her nose at the large white facade they were pulling up to. It was relatively ugly, with banners and flags posted everywhere. Men in tight black suits stood at the gate, with little ear pieces that buzzed information Echo could vaguely hear. Her demon senses were quite good, she could distinguish the buzz of a fly up to a mile away. "What is this place?" Echo whispered, wondering what lay beyond the ugly house and the very large black fences. "This is the White House," Gwenyth whispered between her teeth as they were waved through.

The White House? Echo suddenly realized what this meant. "Then the person giving us the award is the President?" She asked, looking between Flo and Gwenyth. "No," Gwenyth corrected," We're receiving the award from the Vice President. The President is a very busy man and can't be bothered with things like meetings with demons. We'll be meeting a lot of distinguished characters, so be on your best behavior." Echo sighed once more, the car pulled up beside an ever piling snow bank. The white house lawn, which was normally a stark green, was sprinkled in a light dusting of beautiful, powdery snow. "It stays so fresh here," whereas in England the snow would already be a terrible, slushy gray. "We'll be getting lunch here, supposedly."

Echo slipped out of the vehicle, knowing that she had to pull her act together quickly so that the White House Staff were not left with a bad taste in their mouth after an interaction with a demon. She needed to show them that demons were no more a threat to their safety than any other human citizen.

Oh, politicians, Flo knew their type. For a long time, wasn't she one of them? "We saved his granddaughter but that isn't important enough." Flo murmured with a bit of a dark expression, wringing her wings behind her as she spoke in this very hushed whisper. "Well, to the really important people, family takes a backseat to the job." She would know, that was the exact definition of Director LaFleur and her eventual grab for power against Director Harway, with Echo and the Second Impact as tools to replace the Director with herself. Well, regardless, the pinkette knew better than to let this glint in her eye remain. She needed to appear benign, and in truth, she meant no harm to the humans here. They had a shared interest - to have this meeting go as harmlessly as possible. The less trouble that arose, the better for everyone here.

"You should probably stop eyeing up the place." Samurai said with a half joking laugh as Flo exited the vehicle, wings sweeping at the snow at her feet. "This isn't a battlezone or anything." But was it really so unreasonable to be on edge here? Anything could happen - putting a bunch of important people in a building like this was akin to asking for a bomb to strike. "Can't be too careful." Flo murmured, shaking her head. "Remember, back in London? Even the safest place can be penetrated. I gotta be prepared!" Amy wasn't high profile enough to be here, and well, she was a shy little thing, it made sense she wouldn't do all so great in this kind of situation anyways. But Flo could feel it, transmitting through the TB as they made their way into the White House, Harris's earnest love and longing for that freckled country girl.

Flo did her best to keep the scowl off of her face, but the fact of the matter was, she wasn't exactly in the mood to eat lunch all stiff and monitored as if they were labrats. They rescued the granddaughter of this nation's leader, something a bit more carefree wouldn't be too bad, if she had any say in the matter. Which she didn't, unfortunately. "We've been waiting for you." A suited man said that Flo could very vaguely recognize but couldn't place to name of. "Sorry for being late, I had a medical emergency." Flo said, a little white lie. His eyes seemed to crinkle in some semblance of concern but Flo waved it off with a smirk. "I'm fine now, and glad to be here, sir." He nodded curtly and gestured the way for them to go in this strange building.

How funny, the sensation coming from Samurai, a strange mix of disappointment and pride as the quartet headed to where they were supposed to be, to meet the Vice President, apparently, since the actual President himself didn't feel like showing, or couldn't, due to other obligations. "Um, what's next, Hawk?" Flo asked, since Hawk was the only one with a real idea on this kind of thing. The pinkette was no stranger to politics, but she didn't live it quite the way Gwenyth did, since Flo spent most of her life in a public school, and then in a hospital rather than the noble class power struggle that no doubt the Delanores and the St Claires and other noble families dealt with.

|| Studio Ghibli Songs || Various Arists ||

Days turned to nights, falling into months, which peeled away into a full two years. They explored to their hearts content, salvaging the time that they could, were made honorary citizens and received multiple awards. Echo was fully healed,
no longer walking with a gimp or a cast nor brace, but in full strides, the way a demon was meant to. The veins in her brain had stopped thinning aggressively thanks to the shunt, which was now regulating the blood flow to her brain. Echo and Hawk made quite the team and if anyone dare say it, with Hawk's strict training, they had more potential than Echo and Fluorspar. Sure,
the two had meshed well but they had pushed themselves in dangerous ways. Hawk, named aptly, watched her young-ling Echo with the eyes of an older, wiser guardian. She knew the ropes of the world in ways the five hundred year old demon was still ignorant to.

Perhaps she would have learned better had she not been locked up for half of her life. "It's a shame we have to leave," Echo glanced around the barren apartment, save for the few essentials she would need for the course of the next week. Their belongings had been packed up and sent ahead to London. In the next few days they would train and witch over the new recruiters. The duo had already rid their office of all personal belongings. When not in recruitment mode, Echo and Hawk had been active in the hunting scene. Echo had never learned whom that mysterious pink haired demon might have been, even if there were hints to lineage that made no sense to the blonde haired bat. "It's been a nice run," Hawk finished taping up the last box to put on the truck. Echo waved across the hall to the open door where Fluorspar and Samurai were closing up their rooms.

"Everything is temporary," Hawk spoke knowingly, placing a hand on Echo's head. "Nothing is forever. Speaking of which, you need a haircut," Echo stuck out her tongue, detesting the idea of having a human come anywhere near her with a pair of scissors. "Fine, I guess we can wait until we return to London." Hawk rolled her eyes, getting any human other than her Master to so much as shake her hand ended with disastrous results. The ones who had been cutting Echo's hair these last two years had been either Flo or Hawk. Today, Hawk had her own hair pinned up neatly in a fancy braid that ended in an over the top bun which reminded Echo of a flower. It was now early fall, the summer had whisked away quickly into what was going to be another eventful Halloween.

"This time next week, we'll be back in London," a Level 5 already, Echo was proud to say, which was a lot considering what she had been through to get there. Her third human and they were working their hardest to make up for lost time. Hawk thought herself to be something of a Mother hen to Echo and while she had tried to date around, including that Doctor from the Boston Children's Hospital, she just couldn't find anyone good for her. Echo had suggested dating woman, to which Hawk had smacked her not too kindly over the head with a newspaper for. "Not everyone can just decide that they want to date a woman!" She barked, chasing Echo out of their apartment. "Go pick up your uniform, the goodbye dinner is next week and you've delayed going to the dry cleaners for long enough."

"Fine, fine!" Echo winked at Flo, as though to say she would be right back and scurried off in the hunt for the uniform she would have Hawk pin her medals to, since if Echo tried to do it, she would end up with a jagged line across the breast pocket.

Two years. A whole lot happened in these past two years, perhaps one of the more exciting events was the definite bulge growing on little Amy's belly. "Who'd have thought you'd have to be a father, hmm?" Flo taunted mercilessly to Samuria, nudging him in the side with her elbow. He reddened and seemed somewhat between terrified and flustered. "Everyone grows up eventually." Samurai muttered, clutching at his tie, trying to look professional for their farewell from America. "I'm an old man now, Flo." Well, he still had a few good years left before being on the wrong side of twenty, didn't he? "Well, it'll be good for him to be born in the land his parents are from." Amy said with a satisfactory pat on her tummy. Flo's grinned sharpened and she peered up at her oldest friend. "What are you gonna name the lucky bugger?" A sense of nostalgia loomed in Harris's eyes as he opened his mouth.

"I'll name him Nell."

It was time to go home, the goodbye dinner was full of farewells and even a few tears and begs for them to come back and visit sometimes - Fiore in particular had been impressed at the duel Flo and Echo had, which ended up, predictably, with Echo's victory, their fight was to celebrate Echo being considered fully capable of combat once again, and lo and behold, she proved it in full strides. "We'll be back, don't worry, kiddos." The pinkette waved and settled in the car next to Echo, who definitely was more the type to proudly show off her medals than Flo, who had them covered up in a decent jacket given to her by Doll, as per the usual. "London's waiting, it's been forever now." Yes, it was, but soon enough they'd be at the airport, and then on the plane, and then landing in the newly restored London International Airport to greet old faces yet again.

"Echo! Flo!" A familiar face was almost crying out at them, it was Charlotte, looking the same as always, ever since becoming a mermaid her growth had been halted. Ariel was there too, though one of the five immortal little children girls was missing - Silence and Pray, weren't they supposed to be still in Berlin handling the mess over there? "We're home at last." Flo yawned, tired from the flight, sitting in the wheelchair mostly because she didn't feel like moving. Her lungs, they were showing very slow signs of improvement - after a century or so, Wei predicted that they would be fully acclimatized to her body. "Welcome home." Christopher said with a bit of emotion on his face - not much, but still some. Doll was there too, seeming perhaps a little lonely without Melody at her side.

Yup, the two still sported their rings. Just a few months ago, they had their marriage, following the trend set by Flame and Melody, the ones to break the mold and live a happy life with one another - well, not the first. Wasn't there another pair that betrayed humanity for the sake of love? But unlike them who died, Flame and Melody were granted the right to love. "Cal, I know you're there. I don't feel like a big welcome party, I just wanna sleep." Calciferous had a bashful grin as he scratched the back of his head and Shadow patted him on the shoulder, the two having grown, Shadow, once a weedy little boy, now looking like a respectful young man. Reyna and Corona were back home to Ogygia, but Ellen, Crescent, and their accompanying demons were glad to greet the returning pairs.

And then someone broke the crowd, it was Director Wei, but he wasn't sporting the smile Flo expected he would. "Just now, we received a message from Berlin." The fighting was getting worse over there, especially with the annihilation of the Kiev Branch, but Flo didn't think it was going to get this out of control. "Melody, who had arrived with Flame during their honeymoon are stuck in Berlin, and Silence and Pray have gone missing." The butterfly sighed and aimed her amethyst eyes at her eternal partner, Echo. "I hear Berlin's nice this time of year." She said with a wry little smirk. "What say we go on vacation there and see the sights?" No matter what happened, Flo knew everything would be okay - not everyone could get a happy ending, but she would fight for hers with all her might. With Echo at her side, she knew that would be possible, no matter how long it took.
