Physical Description
Edmund is a tall young man, standing at 6'1". Edmund's skin is pale, but not quite as pale as a stereotypical vampire's. He is reasonably muscular, but not ripped by any standards. He has a heart-shaped face with no visible imperfections, but there is a large, jagged scar on his forehead (which he received when attacked with a broken glass bottle) that he hides with his fringe. His hair is jet black, long enough to fall down to the bottom of his neck, and a different shape every day. Edmund just lets his hair stay the way it was when he woke up, but always makes sure that it hides his scar. His eyes are the most noticeable feature on his face; they are both golden brown, have slightly slit pupils and seem to constantly dart around, inspecting every little detail of everything.
Edmund isn't particularly fussy about clothing, or any other aspect of his appearance for that matter. He usually wears a black cotton shirt, chocolate brown or grey trousers, dark socks and black shoes. When he's outside or moving around he always wears a long, buff-coloured coat with black stripes that loop around the shoulders and go straight down the sides as well as a large collar which he will pop if it gets too cold.
"I have more important things to worry about than looking pretty."
I can...
Edmund is a talented guitarist who plays the electric, acoustic and bass guitars, and can usually be found playing one of them in his room in his spare time. As a witch vampire, Edmund has the power to summon and manipulate black matter. Black matter is a solid with no definite physical properties; Edmund decides on them when he brings the black matter into existence. He decides how hard or soft it is and how light or heavy it is. It will not react with anything. He can mold the black matter into various objects ranging from bouncy balls to knives. The more black matter Edmund summons, the more energy he uses, so he tends to use his power sparingly. He can draw energy from other sources such as plants, animals and inanimate sources of energy, such as mains sockets or fires. Drawing energy from a living being will weaken it (e.g. a small animal might pass out or a flower may wither if Edmund used its energy) and drawing energy from an inanimate source can potentially damage or destroy it (e.g. drawing too much energy from a fire will put it out and drawing too much energy from a mains socket would break it). He also understands animals well, and is capable of communicating with most of them. He can also take abuse with a straight face.
"Impressive, huh?"
But I can't...
Edmund can't stand being put down as a second-class citizen, but he knows there's nothing he can do about it. While outwardly he'll just stand there and take punches, part of him inside wants to summon a blade and drive it through the human's neck. While he won't let anyone know this, he often has violent fits when he's alone to try and get rid of some of the aggression that has pent up inside him. His social skills leave much to be desired, even with vampires. He is also a terrible liar, especially when trying to convince someone that something Malphas has said about him isn't true; he'll go as red as a beetroot, fail to make eye contact, move around a lot and fidget with his fingers and clothes.
"M-Malphas, stop making stuff up about me!"
Personality
Edmund immediately comes off as cold to just about everyone. Edmund distances himself from other people, whether they are humans or vampires. However, he enjoys making tongue-in cheek remarks to humans, but only ones who look down on vampires. However, he knows his limits, and knows exactly how rude he can be to humans without being punished for it. He likes to portray himself as a hard man, so he will reject the sympathies of others, whether he wants them or not.
However, beneath Edmund's facade of a hard man lies a distressed little child in need of comfort. Only Malphas knows how Edmund really is but doesn't keep as quiet about it as Edmund does. Edmund longs for someone to talk to, someone he can be open with, someone who sees Edmund Malkin, not a filthy subhuman. However, he's dug himself too deep, and feels that he can't drop the veil of being cold and antisocial. While he gets angry at Malphas for telling people about his side he never shows, a small part of him is grateful to Malphas for saying what he wants to say but can't.
"Did I invite you in here? No? Then go away."

History
Edmund was born in Pendle, Lancashire, England, the town famous for a long history of witchcraft and other strange goings on. Both of Edmund's parents were Witch Vampires, and both came from long lines of vampires who had lived in Pendle for centuries. They were very good at cloaking the fact they were vampires and taught Edmund how to as well, although these skills became redundant in the future. They all lived fairly happy, normal lives. Edmund's mother home-schooled him, teaching him not only normal subject that all humans learn, but how to cast magic. She gave Edmund an egg to look after when he was 7, an egg that a baby Eurasian eagle owl hatched from, an owl Edmund named Malphas. Malphas was Edmund's familiar right from his hatching, and has been ever since. Through Malphas, Edmund learned how to communicate with animals, and in turn, Malphas learned how to speak English.
When Edmund was 11, his family moved to Iowa, attracted by the University of Diversity. Edmund was sad to leave Pendle behind, but looking forward to the prospect of meeting even more vampires and humans who would accept him for who he was. His dreams were soon shattered, and after days of joining he was beaten up by a group of older humans, who left him in a pool of tears and blood. And Edmund couldn't do a thing about it. Eventually he learned to take blows with a straight face, but he still felt the same inside as he did on the day he was first attacked.
Over time, Edmund changed from a cheerful little boy to a cold young man who wouldn't talk to anyone but his owl. Edmund intends to return to Pendle as soon as he can, and to live there for the rest of his life.
Opinions
Malphas - Edmund sees Malphas in a way that many teenagers might see their fathers. Edmund feels constantly embarrassed by Malphas revealing things about him that he would never tell anybody else, but often falls back on him for support of all kinds.
Lilith - Edmund has never had any close interactions with Lilith, but he knows who she is, and what she is. Edmund fears that Lilith can read him like a book, and knows how he really feels. As a result, he tries to stay away from her, even though she's probably figured him out already. Edmund's scared of her, but he's not going to tell you that.
Henri - Edmund and Henri have a rather heated, not-so-friendly rivalry. The rivalry started when they were put in a pair to work on a class project. Edmund ended up doing all the work, not because he didn't want Henri's contributions, but because Henri was unwilling to give them. Edmund let Henri know how lazy he was being, sparking an argument. The two never got on ever since. However, Malphas and Everest get on far better than their masters do, much to Edmund's chagrin.
Nozomi - Edmund doesn't know Nozomi very well, but she seems nice enough. He's only talked to her a couple of times, but he already respects her for her willingness to speak her mind and kind disposition towards vampires. She's one of the few people Edmund would talk to voluntarily.
Other
As a child Edmund was fascinated by stories about Malkin tower; a tower in witches supposedly gathered and performed black magic. Edmund's father said that his ancestors had lived in Malkin Tower. While archaeologists were incapable of finding any signs of the tower, Edmund is certain of its existence, and intends to search for it upon returning to Pendle.
|Theme Song| Tesla - In a Hole Again
Don't want anyone to know
Who I really am so they'll never see
All the things I hide behind these precious walls
I built just for me
So if they look into the windows of my soul
All they're gonna see
Are my eyes starin' back
And not shattered glass or the broken side of me
'Cause I'm so afraid to show my darkest secrets
I keep them wrapped in chains
And locked up in a place where no one goes
But I'm sure my insecurities will give it all away
I'm heading fast straight for a crash and burn
For me there is no shame
(I'm going down) Back in a hole again
(Deep under ground) Back in a hole again
(Where no one's around) And I don't need a friend
(So safe and sound) Back in a hole again
I'm finally back of course behind the mask
I've always worn for you
To distract you, since I couldn't face the fact
That someone ever knew
That all I am is just some smoke and mirrors
And a gun pointin' back at you
And you to catch me in the act of this
I know it would be through
All these years I've lived in fear, that you would find out
Just exactly what I'm made of
Or what I'm really all about
And it would kill me just to see you
Point your finger and hear you say
"You're one of them" and this I could not stand
So I'll be on my way
(I'm going down) Back in a hole again
(Deep under ground) Back in a hole again
(Where no one's around) And I don't need a friend
(So safe and sound) Back in a hole again
(I'm going down) Back in the hole again
(Deep under ground) I'm in the hole again
(Where no one's around) And I don't need a friend
(So safe and sound) Back in the hole again
