Yulissa was born with a head of nearly golden yellow hair, pale yet pretty as it shone in the daylight. She took her mother, Althea's, hair, as well as her eyes. When she was younger Yulissa had always been growing faster than her older twin, becoming taller and stronger than Levi. It was only when she began experimenting with hexes that she accidentally hexed herself, stunting her growth and causing her to become physically frail. Unlike Levi who was blossming and becoming beautiful, Yulissa's eyes were too much like daggers, and her voice too salacious.
Regardless, Yulissa still dresses in appropriate regal wear for a Princess of her stature, particularly enjoying colors like blue and green in her wardrobe. She seems dainty and has delicate body language which belies the personality within. She was to never stand out more than Levi, never shine more than Levi, so as such she preferred to not be the pretty sister. Her makeup remains simpler than Levi's, and her clothing, half a grade less magnificent.

As I walked, I sensed you coming near,
But since when had you been so close to me?
This is simply the way our roads now intersect-
A bond we've all learned to see.

But as I look to the sky up above,
Searching through all of the things that I see,
I just can’t shake this strange unease
From the pain of that past memory.

I can feel this strength flowing endlessly inside my yearning heart,
Because I've found the things I swore that I’d protect
As these vistas pass back and forth right here, my troubles seem to disappear
As my feelings and my will both intersect.

At the start of time, when we first began, we swore this solemn vow:
That we would pass our judgment on the darkness here.
Even if we fell to our weaker selves, we swore we'd never turn around.
We would fight until our heartache disappeared.

As this well known scene plays before our eyes and our past fades away,
I feel the signals showing me which way to go.
I will cast aside all the things I hold that weigh me down and block my way,
And I'll choose to venture forth with all I know.

From the day she was born Yulissa was the unfavored sister. Even as an infant they all doted on the beautiful and intelligent Levi, choosing her to be the heir, the future Queen. The weight of the world was put on her shoulders from the moment she was born. Even as a child Yulissa did not mind that. Levi was given a much stricter life while Yulissa was allowed to eat as she pleased, and play as she wished. She made friends with children of the Arvis family, a family tied closely with the Military Police, and was allowed to see Magnolia for what it was, rather than what their mother and Queen, Althea, tried to pretend it was. Still, the closest person to Yulissa was always Levi, the smaller, cuter, and smarter sister. While Levi was fit to rule, Yulissa was raised to be her adviser and guide.

At ten years old their parents decided the twins were too close, too codependent. They were separated from one another, Yulissa was taken from the private tutoring lessons and enrolled in an Academy for rich children where she could study with Sonya and Sylas Arvis, her friends from social gatherings with the nobility. Yulissa learned of demon labor, she learned of Rebel Dimensions who defied Magnolia's will and of the Outlaw Dimensions who had yet to accept them. She learned of the cruelty of humanity, but the cruelty mages could bear as well. But no matter the adventures she had with the Arvis siblings, Yulissa always looked forward to Levi's night visits above all else. Together they summoned their familiars - Pen going to Levi, and Azure belonging to Yulissa - and despite being caught, Yulissa would never regret having made that decision.

In Magnolia, young mages are allowed to choose their specialty anywhere between the ages of ten and fourteen. While Yulissa had always excelled in ice magic, she didn't feel like it was what suited her. She learned of a dangerous magic, a powerful magic, it was typically illegal to use freely. Students were taught hexes and curses not because it was good to learn, but because they would learn how not to use them. With how much fighting and danger there was in Magnolia, with how many people tried to incite terror and fear in the hearts of the people, Yulissa figured the best magic to eliminate the enemy was with curses. She delved into her studies, focusing entirely on the arts of hexing and cursing, and even took the exam to earn her license to use those magics for the sake of Magnolia. Unfortunately, as side effects of this magic, Yulissa had seemingly permanently impaired her body. No longer was she strong and full of energy but now she tired entirely too quickly. No longer could she grow but was frozen at thirteen years old. She even lost hearing on her entire left side, and her Pangolin Disease only worsened from there.

But because of this, Yulissa became one of the most frightening users of hexes and curses Magnolia has ever known.

Yulissa's responsibilities grew as a result. She was assigned to hunting a famed terrorist by the name of Siegfried, she was made to volunteer alongside the Patriots on occasion, she was given a leading role in the subjugation of Constantia, and was even given temporary responsibility over the witch Zinnia Evernight, the legendary White Witch of Constantina. But Yulissa had a different plan. And it all started with a certain necklace...

The mages of the Patriots were surrounded at the entrance to the Artemis Ward, Assault Unit wands aimed at them on all sides. Sonya barked fiercely. "Don't move! The Queen is at attention!" She saw the wand of course, she saw Levi's wand here. "Obey the Queen and cooperate with her!" As long as the Patriots didn't do anything rash they would get out fine. Silas was already checking over their wounds, making sure they didn't get hurt so far in the crossfire. "The Prelinians are pretty militant. Are you all okay?" He was being more civil than the girls, Silas was just a gentler guy to begin with. There was a reason Yulissa loved him so much. "Adelyn, is everything okay here?" He held his arm out, keeping his wand arm at his side. "Can you tell me what's going on?"

Adelyn bit her lip and grit her teeth, deciding to speak up. She would not reveal Silas's role in this, and it was likely Silas too did not know the extent of her role among the Patriots. There was a lot for the two of them to have to discuss. Adelyn was more than eager to put herself on the line, but even her words were like knives. Well trained daughter of Greil Grace she sure was. "That won't be happening." Yulissa said flippantly. "You want safety? The Palace is where you'll all be kept safe as honored guests of the Anemone family." If anyone knew where Levi was, the Patriots were sure to find out. Silas seemed alarmed for some reason. "Wait, Yulissa, are you sure that's wise?" Sonya asked, narrowing her eyes. "What would the Council think?" A decision like that would require the consent of the Council. "That Fingolf will definitely try to stop it."

"No one can fight Sigfried but me. That man is too dangerous." So far, the only one to survive combat with Sigried was Yulissa herself. There was a puff of smoke then, and someone was here. Speak of the devil and naturally, he will come. "I heard my name mentioned." Fingolf Riven, the Head Councilor, grinned at her. "I see. What you're using this Assault Unit is for is very important. Pointing wands at our very own Patriots, the heroes of Magnolia." He spread his arms to stand between Yulissa and the Patriots then. "What are you playing at?" The Fingolf she knew would never put himself in harms way. He was a coward.

"You shouldn't threaten the Patriots, your Highness! You're still so young, is it really wise to give you this much authority over the military?" Yulissa had priority over the Council when it came to giving orders to the tri-branch military. Was he trying to take that away in order to attack Var Nayya? "You all should go." Fingolf turned around, yelling at the surrounded Patriots. "Watch. She won't give the order to fire." Yulissa narrowed her eyes, but she knew she would be in more trouble if she opened fire here and now. Yet something didn't sit right. It made sense Adelyn would find out about the purge, that girl had her ears in everyone's business. Even so, something didn't add up.

In any case her hands were tied. "Just go. We'll do one last sweep of the area." The trucks were already driving through, groups of surviving Prelinians being dragged off to Labor Camp Orpheus, a place no one could leave once they were put there to work.

Relief flooded her, her knees felt weak and her hands shaky. Pen grasped Levi by the arm, reminding her that they still had to keep up appearances. Yulissa had most definitely noticed her wand, the way her eyes had settled upon it. There had been recognition in those cold eyes. Had her sister connected the dots? Had she noticed something was a miss in the way they had behaved? "Queen Yulissa," Levi spoke as she began to turn away. Suzuya launched a warning glance in her direction and Levi heeded the warning, knowing that she was being reckless in her decision to speak directly to her sister. Pen still had a hand grasping Levi's upper arm. It squeezed her tensely, as though to ask what she thought she was doing. Levi swallowed hard, but she knew she needed Yulissa to understand.

"I'm sure wherever Princess Levi is right now, she must be very proud of you." It was not sarcastic, nor was it a threat. The meaning, however, was clear. Both Suzuya and Pen pulled Levi away. "Apologies my Queen," Suzuya spoke quickly. "The new recruits came from very poor families, as you can tell their mannerisms have yet to be worked out." They walked around Yulissa quickly, escaping to the freedom that Fingolf had granted them. Why? Levi did not know. For the entirety she had known that man, her Mother had warned her that he was the scheming sort. He never did anything without some sort of intention behind it and Levi could not, for the life of her, figure what this one might be. Did he intend to pull a favor from the Patriots at a later time? Or perhaps he simply wanted to impede upon Yulissa's authority.

Where was Azure? Levi wondered. She had not seen the trusty familiar alongside her master. Surely she had returned to Yulissa's side and had not been stopped or harmed along the way? Levi swallowed hard. It had been foolish to trust that the friendly cat, Azure, would be able to make it back on her own. Cats, including demon ones, were naturally curious and could get themselves into trouble. "Levi, you shouldn't have done that!" Pen hissed once they were far enough away. As her post, Pen was supposed to guide Levi in the right direction. Her Mother had entrusted that position to her familiar. "I had to say something," Levi admitted, her mind still spinning at the scene she had happened upon walking through the Apollo Ward. It reminded her of what had gone down in Hepheustus.

"You will," Suzuya assured her, releasing Levi from her grasp. "When the time comes, you will confront Yulissa in front of the entire Kingdom and take back your crown." Levi nodded, feeling something strange well up in her chest. Leon returned from the shadows, still craddling Zinnia as though she were a bride and not a victim of kidnapping. "I trust you all have a second base to return to for the time being," she spoke, her words not critical, but most definitely judgemental. "We don't," Adelyn replied, scratching the back of her head. "We have no back up, it's true." Suzuya confirmed, "but we will return to the Patriot House once the turmoil has died down a bit." They had nowhere to go, in the meanwhile.

"I have somewhere," Zinnia responded. "But it depends on how you feel of eccentric wizards."

Back at the Palace, all Yulissa wanted to do was get some rest. She was nearing her limits now after partaking personally in the purge of the Apollo Ward, removing all Prelinians from Magnolia. Fingolf had returned with her at her order. "Why did you get in the way? You don't see me intruding on your business." Fingolf looked almost offended at that. "The Patriots are good people." He insisted defensively. "It would be a mistake to go after them. You're still so young and foolish, you don't understand anything." His voice was dismissive, his tone, mocking. "Mother always said you always had something planned. I can't trust you." But it wasn't in her political power to remove him either. The monarchy had no control over the Council and vice versa. "I'm trying to put a block on your tyranny." His eyes were hard. "You cause too much death, Queen. It paints a bad picture for everyone here."

An hour later, Sonya entered the room with a look of concern on her face. Azure was soothingly licking Yulissa's crystalized foot to try and control the pain. She had worked herself too hard today, even with Zinnia's potions there was a limit to what she could do. "My father wanted me to report to you that we couldn't find Zinnia. We searched all the Prelinian homes for any sign of her but there was none." Yulissa groaned, annoyed. "She had to have been there somewhere." She was tired, she didn't want to handle anything right now. "I hope we find her soon..." Sonya sighed, looking more tired than ever before. It was sad - Sonya was once such a beauty before all the stress got to her. "You need those potions, but only Zinnia Evernight can make them."

"Please don't go on purges anymore." Sonya was stern. What, did she think she had some authority here or something? "I have to. It's part of my sin." Yulissa had an obligation to go on purges no matter how bad it was for her. "You shouldn't have to carry the burden alone! I know it hurts you to do these things, Yule!" Sonya's hands were soft as she grabbed Yulissa's own hands. She pulled away, grimacing. "I'm the one at fault. You - you could have been a model like you always dreamed. Now you're fighting a war for my sake." Because of her, Sonya was stained and dirty with blood, with murder. She wasn't going to ever get to be a model now. "You're my best friend." Sonya was quiet, her blonde hair beautiful in the glint of the evening sky. "I wasn't going to let you do a coup without me helping you." Tears stung in Yulissa's eyes and she struggled to wipe them away.

The Queen was getting very tired but it seemed there was still something on Sonya's mind. "Why didn't you do anything? You knew that was Levi there." Referring to Levi's wand, that Lilac girl had it. Azure stiffened, yelping. "What? You met her? With the Patriots?" Yulissa nodded, remembering the words Levi told her. No doubt the innocent princess thought what she was saying was helping. "Fingolf was there. I couldn't let him know what I realized." Fingolf was dangerous - the more he know, the worse for Yulissa it would be. "Then why were you so mean?" Sonya whimpered. "You're never mean to her." The words Yulissa told Levi still stung in her heart. Why did she say that?

"I do not know why a peasant like you thinks you can speak for my precious sister Levi, but tell her that she should go back to a peaceful sleep where she belongs."

Nicklaus Flammel was by far the most eccentric wizard Levi had ever met. As a child, she had pictured him wizzened, with bright orange hair and a smile that made crows feet flicker at the corners of his eyes. The reality, however, was very different. Nicklaus Flammel had orange hair, with one long strand dangling off of his head in a braid that had beads at the end of it. His eyes were a keen yellow, but his smile, when he did smile, lit up a room. As soon as he opened the door, his face became alight with joy. "Lumier, Yuu! I see you've brought guests, come in, come in. Zinnia, don't tell me you've lost your cane already?" He scolded, he looked old enough to be Zinnia's older brother, or perhaps, in a stretch, her Father. "No need to wear disguises, you can relax here." Levi's eyes widened in surprise, it seemed the rumors were true. Red hair on mages meant powerful magical abilities.

"I did not lose it, I was kidnapped and dropped it in my surprise." There was a fire crackling in the hearth despite it being spring, but it was not hot. If anything, it made the room seem perfectly homey. There were large, squashy arm chairs and shelves lined with trinkets and books. No doubt he had collected them during his famed travels. "Thank you for inviting us into your home," Levi curtsied as her disguise fell away. "It is always an honor to host a Princess," he bowed at the waist, placing a light kiss on Levi's hand. She knew the spell instantly, a tracking bell. "Why did you do that?" Levi blinked in surprise, yanking her hand back. "Don't mind him," Zinnia waved it away as Leon, who was oddly gentle despite his brutish appearance, placed Zinnia down.

"He likes to keep tabs on important people." Important? Her? Oh, right... she was the Princess after all. "Thank you, but I like my privacy." Levi urged. "So, to what do I owe the pleasure of this midday visit? I thought you were at work and who are all of these lovely young people?"

Lumier cleared her throat. "Our apologies for barging in, Sir Flammel. We needed to escape the Apollo Ward during the Prelanian Purge." His brow furrowed, "Another purge so soon?" Levi nodded in confirmation. "She recognized me, without a doubt. She knows I'm with you all. Now you'll be in danger," Levi scrubbed a hand across her face, it was clear that she was stressed. "You can remain here, for the time being," Flammel offered. "I suspect they will check the Patriot House for Zinnia as well. They would hardly guess she would be in the one place she wants to be." Suzuya had been awfully quiet the entire time, they all looked to her, considering she was their leader. She was eyeing Sir Flammel with slight suspicion. "You don't know of a Sigfried, do you?"

"Who might that be?" He inquired, whisking his wand through the air for a teapot to float in, along with several mismatched China cups. He sat down on one of the arm chairs, a book fluttering out of the way in the same manner a dog might. Pen and Leon were fixated by it, the two demons watching as the book pattered around the floor. "I suppose... for the time being, it would be safest for Levi, Pen, and Zinnia to remain here. We will naturally be doing daily check ups, as our time until the ball is short to begin with."

Once upon a time Sonya would be the fashionable one, rivaling Adelyn Grace in beauty. The two would have all the new dresses, all the new styles. They were the trendsetters in their childhood. Now one threw all of that away to become an altruist that helps as many people as possible, the other, training to become a captain in the secretive and mighty Assault Unit. It was sad and Yulissa still remembered the old days. Then again she herself remembered wanting to be a prostitute because she was explained by Althea that a prostitute was "someone who gives love to lots of people." "I'd rather not remember that." She muttered to herself. Azure giggled, her tail wiggling. She didn't go on the purge because Yulissa didn't want Azure to expose her eyes to the scenes that were involved. The white cat was innocent, she deserved better.

"Hello!" Azure stood up, her tongue sore from all the therapeutic licks she had given her master. She made an overly stiff expression and squinted her eyes really small, making a smug face. "I'm gonna be a prostitute when I grow up! I'm baby Yulissa! Please let me share love!" Yulissa blushed and sighed. "No, not so loud at least! What if people hear you?" Azure smiled, sitting down. "Take it easy a little! You're pushing yourself too hard! I like seeing you relaxed and happy." Yulissa gave her familiar a weak little grin. "I'm sorry. I know, I always worry everyone." It was hard work trying to clean Magnolia when all your sins kept piling up and weighing down on you. Would she ever be able to have a good night's sleep again? "But what do we do about Levi being-" Azure shook her head with a pout.

The white cat stamped her foot on the ground. "Do? No, no more work talk! Let's play, let's do something fun!" When was the last time Yulissa ever did anything fun? Even when she was younger she devoted so much of her free time to playing with curses, she did not know what normal people did for entertainment. "What's fun?" She asked blankly. Azure gave her a similar expression. "I was hoping you would know? Most demons have fun killing and eating but I always liked coloring but everyone calls it weird." The white cat looked sad, ears drooping. "Is it weird to like coloring?" Yulissa shook her head emphatically. "No, there's nothing wrong. Here, let's do some coloring." She raised her wand. "Accio colo- ow, ow!" Pain suddenly shot up her leg like a rail spike headed straight for the pelvic bone. She panted, feeling weak and exhausted.

"Yule! oh no! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" Azure sobbed, going back to her leg. She had stopped short because of her tongue, she should have finished the treatment before starting to joke around. "N-no. It's not you, it's something-" She whimpered weakly as Azure pulled the skirt of her dress up to lick it and examine. Azure's face was paler than her usual pale. "I-i-it's spreading, Yule. I can feel it, it's moving up your shin now." There was no cure. There was nothing anyone could do. "Th-then I have to... move faster. I have to finish the job so Levi can rule over a clean Magnolia." Anything less than that would be failure.

------------

Naturally it was Yue and Rainarch who did the paperwork to get Sir Flammel into Magnolia under a different guise, as Sir Flammel himself was on the very same wanted list Protea Zonenshine once was on. He insulted Queen Althea one day, calling her a dictator, so he was banned from Mangolia. Rainarch floated her way to Flammel's place, intending to warn him about what was wrong with Yue when suddenly everyone else was there. "Rainarch, there you are." Flammel's voice was gentle. "Hello, this demon is my friend." Rain gulped, panicking. "U-um, am I allowed to be here?" Technically she was supposed to report things like this to Queen Yulissa. "You're loyal to Yue, not to Yulissa." Flammel reminded her kindly.

These were the Patriots everyone was talkign about. Not only that, but some old faces were her too. Lumier gave her an awkward wave and Yuu nodded in recognition. And... Zinnia... "Zinny..." Rain sobbed, almost becoming a puddle of sadness. "I'm sorry! I couldn't stop Yue! I couldn't do anything right! In the end, it all got so wrong!" She had promised to make sure Yue did not become evil but in the end she helped her do all the bad things, she was her eyes, she was her guide. "I'm a bad demon! The worst! A bad familiar!" A demon was to be a guidepost. "Blithe would be ripping my head off and whipping me skinless right now..."

The depressed bubble demon suddenly remembered she had news. "Zinny! That's right! Yue's not waking up! Pomfrey was put in charge of her and-" Yuu and Lumier both spoke up in surprise. "Pomfrey?! She's alive!" Rain nodded, the mist demon confused. "Yes. But um, Yue isn't waking and it's been almost a day since she took the cure." She flailed her arms strangely. "Pomfrey says her breathing is shallow and she has a fever! Is that bad? Should I be scared?" The mist demon did not want anything bad to happen to her partner.

They all paused when a demon came floating in through the window. Pen stiffened, jumping in front of Levi to protect her. Zinnia and Flammel seemed calm, did they know who this mist demon was that could phase through solid walls? "Hello, any friend of Flammel's is a friend of our's," Levi smiled. "You shouldn't be so friendly to strange demons," Pen scolded. "What if she was hostile?" Levi looked up at Pen and sighed, "Flammel told us that she's his friend, so I don't think we have any reason to worry." Levi smiled, wanting to appear diplomatic and reassuring. It seemed that Yuu and Lumier too, recognized the demon. Was this another Constantinian? Did they allow demons to live side-by-side with the rest of the folk? Such methods seemed almost barbaric to those that lived in a mostly mage populated society. The folk in Magnolia were few and far between.

Zinnia leaned forward when the demon, whose name was Rainarch, addressed her. It seemed that Rainarch was Yue, the fabled evil witch's, familiar. "You were merely acting by the will of your Master. You are not a bad familiar Rain," Zinnia spoke in a reassuring tone, seeming oddly calm. "What did she do to you?" Yuu asked softly, looking between the demon and his friend. Levi too, was curious, but not insensitive enough to ask. The others, who were not familiar with Rainarch or the Constantian ways, seemed at a loss during this exchange. "Blithe would also act on my orders, if I had asked her to do such things." Of course, the difference was, that Zinnia would have rather died before lifting a finger against the folk. She picked up one of the tea cups that were drifting about the room, holding it out for the magical teapot to pour some into.

Levi too, clumsily reached for a tea cup. She had never encountered magic like this, used in such a mundane, but unique manner. She held out her tea cup, a sugar bowl zipping past and dumping in a sugar cube. Milk clumsily poured itself in, then the teapot, which was ever so careful. Levi watched, wide eyed, as a teaspoon stirred and clanked against the side, then went to put itself in the sink. "Can you teach me magic like this?" She asked softly, not wanting to disturb the exchange between the others. "You mean you don't already know it?" Flammel inquired, genuinely surprised. Levi shook her head, embarrassed. "My Mother, the Queen, always kept a watch on everything I learned. I was mostly taught defensive and healing magic. Never anything practical. She said a Queen should know to defend herself and how to rule and that was it." Flammel chuckled at that, his voice like that of a spring bird greeting the morning.

"If you so wish it, then I can teach you, but she would be better suited for dueling," he hooked a thumb in the direction of the red haired witch. "Brilliant young thing, which much more field experience than most." Levi tuned back into the other conversation, Rainarch was now explaining that her master would not wake up. Zinnia did not seem worried, if anything, she was contemplative. "More than likely, Yue has been overworking herself. The cure will work, it has merely been a day. Tell Pomfrey to give Yue Elderberry Syrup and Fairy Silver." She reached into her pocket, producing a glistening golden bottle. "If neither of those work, give Yue a second dose of the cure." Flammel suddenly strode across the room, grabbing Zinnia's hand and holding it up to the light.

"I can't tell if you're brilliant or daft at times. Honestly, using your own blood to forge such magic?"

"It needed a strong bond, the devil snare won't bloom without blood either." These were all such foreign terms to Levi, who had never been taught potions. Zinnia handed the glass bottle to Rainarch, "be careful with it, alright?"

With Rainarch having returned to take care of Yue with the new potions she received from Sir Nicolas, the new mage who had moved into the Artemis Ward, Madame Pomfrey assured Yulissa by morning that she would keep Yue alive and well until she awoke from her slumber. The diagnosis was that she simply needed a chance to rest, and that hopefully this here would be that chance. When the morning sun rose in the sky Yulissa sighed painfully. She was going to have to go and meet with Relda Ina and check up on her latest bit of magical research. It was a pain but someone was going to have to do it. "You can send me and rest here for the day." Azure offered, serving her Master some tea. "Relda asked for me specifically." Yulissa said quietly after drinking the tea and her daily doses of the potions Zinnia gave her.

It was supposed to be a top secret project, one that would change how things were right now. That was all that Relda told her in the special message. "What could it be? Oh, that's so exciting!" Azure wiggled, eyes lightning up with eager energy. Still, Yulissa could not ignore the fact that Relda, alongside Fingolf, wanted the Assault Unit to go and attack Var Nayya. "You'll be coming with me." The Queen told her close friend and best aide. "I think I'll need you." The Magical Research Institute was famed in the Realms, it was the reason why Magnolia was steps ahead of the rest of the magical world and the Legion of Magic. Relda was one of the most important people in the city, her mind fueled so many projects. The mana wind mill, the apparation rooms for long distance apparating, she even made a special engine that could send someone into the past if they so wished it.

In the center of the Athena Ward, the Institute of Research awaited. With it's pristine and modern look of glass and metal, it almost looked like some futuristic building smack dab in the middle of a marble city. "It's so pretty." Azure swooned. "I like it here." Yulissa nodded, glad to be feeling at least a little better. What was in store today? She pressed on the door. "It's me, the Queen. We have access." The guards at the doors scanned their mana and allowed them through without a second guess.

It was busy inside. Despite how pretty and fancy the facility was on the outside, inside was chaotic with researchers and mages in labcoats running all over the place as they did their experiments and work. Relda was waiting for them in a much cozier room, smiling. "I invited you here because I thought you would find this interesting, your Highness." Her smile was wide, her grin like fangs. "Please, tell me more." It was an unintelligible device that looked like something between a helmet and a rooster. "It's an Occlumency Amplifier." Relda's voice was sweet. "If you channel occlumency through it it will power your signal and connect you to everyone in Magnolia."

So it was almost like a signal booster, except for occlummency. "Then you can control all those you encounter." There was a spark in her eyes as she described the device. "You can root out all evil in Magnolia and find Princess Levi so much quicker." That did sound interesting for sure, but something like that wasn't complete. "That seems dangerous... do you know how long the control lasts?" Relda nodded helpfully. "It's permanent, your Highness. You're erasing their free will and making them your puppets. It's a necessary evil to stop terrorism once and for all."

Magnolia had an awful terrorism problem, Yulissa knew that for sure. Even so, a tool like this was incredibly dangerous to have around. "I'll keep this with me. If the situation gets worse, I'll consider using it." But not right now. If all terrorism stopped, wouldn't that allow her to keep delaying the invasion of Var Nayya? There was a hint of frustration glinting in Relda Ina's mad scientist eyes but she said nothing. "Wise decision. As always, your Highness." The Council were all tricky, each and everyone one of them. Only Greil Grace ever operated with any honor and integrity.

When morning came, Levi's lessons begun. Zinnia awoke her at sunrise, an unholy hour, to begin with meditation. She had explained that while she trained Levi, the Princess would be on a strict schedule. Far more rigid than any sort of political training. Structure was important, as was being rigid in their studies, supposedly. Pen slept in while Levi meditated, an activity she had had never done before, then helped prepre breakfast. "Everyone has chores, not even a Princess is an exception," Zinnia explained. "I understand, I'm ready for the responsibility!" Levi said in determination. They made eggs and baked fresh bread, using magic to quickly rise the dough. There were spells Levi had never heard of, kitchen spells used to chop and stir, ones that washed dishes, or fanned the oven flame. She was storing all of this knoweldge for later use, of course. Levi did not know if she would ever use them again, but she wanted to be able to recall regardless.

After breakfast began the first practical subject. "Are you sure you can spar?" Levi asked in concern, "Your limp seems worse today," Zinnia shook her head, seeming almost offended. "I was born with bad legs, they have never impeded my ability to cast spells before," to prove her point, Levi had to quickly dodge a Wimpendum. She yelped, jumping out of the way. "Now, show me what we are working with," Levi nodded, taking what she hoped was a fighting stance and gripping her wand tightly. "No, no, this is terrible already." Zinnia rose, using the wall to steady herself as she limped forward, striking one leg out. Levi squeaked as Zinnia adjusted her, pushing her legs farther apart and moving her wand. "That is a fighting stance, you look less like a cowering child and more like a Queen." Levi nodded in understanding, her cheeks turning red. Was this how her sister had learned?

"I'm going to launch my attack now!" The witch announced, waving her wand above her head. "No, don't tell me, just do it!" Zinnia replied, returning to where she had been standing. Again, Levi's cheeks flushed. "R-right!" She held her wand up and swallowed hard, "Soumai!" It was really the only offense spell that Levi knew, since she primarily learned water types. Her spell took effect, water knives launching towards Zinnia. "Andendum," the spells bounced harmlessly off of the shield. "Try again," Zinnia encouraged. "Whelpin Odinfer!" A whip of water splashed from her wand, hitting the floor. Levi flicked it twice towards Zinnia, who easily dodged and dispelled her attack. "You are predictable, you take too long to decide on your spells, your movements are sloppy, and your elbows too far out." Zinnia criticized. Levi subconciously tucked her elbows into her sides.

"We have much work to do and very little time. Come here, let me show you," Zinnia instructed and Levi did as told. Zinnia did not have nor did she need a wand, but she knew the movements by hand and did her best to teach Levi. Levi had always been a good learner and listener. One had to adapt quickly as Queen, or so her Mother had taught her.

It was a little bit awkward seeing her like this. Yulissa's real purpose in the visit to the Grace Estate was to check up on Greil Grace to see if he had any plans in countering whatever moves Fingolf and Relda were trying to do. Both wanted Var Nayya subjugated, but Yulissa, Xavi, and Greil had to resist that however they could. Yulissa was not really expecting to be face to face with Adelyn Grace, whom she had had an awkward encounter with just recently during the Apollo Ward Purge. "Hello, Yulissa." Adelyn Grace's voice was cold, almost chilling. Azure made awkward flapping motions with her arms as she rode on Yulissa's head, her favorite spot to find a perch. "It's good to see you." How much were they allowed to say?

"I disapprove of what you did yesterday. The purge went a little too far." Adelyn sipped from her tea with a straw, always having had that strange habit even from the old childhood days. "I had to take extreme measures." Yulissa did not regret the extermination. Some people called it genocide, others called it retribution. "They hurt Levi really bad, so now everyone will know Levi is off limits." No one would risk hurting Levi, not if it meant their families and loved ones would be purged. "H-how is she?" Azure asked, letting the cat out of the bag. Adelyn glanced at her in mild surprise. "...Better. I think she still wants to see you." Yulissa wanted to see her too. There was a part of her heart that felt cold and frozen when Levi wasn't there to warm it up. But with all that she had to do, there simply wasn't much she could say to Levi right now.

Greil Grace was as welcoming as ever. Xavi looked a little bit uncomfortable in the room as well. "Thanks for keeping them entertained while I got myself ready, Lyn." Greil said with a jolly sort of expression. Adelyn nodded, walking off to whatever business she had to do now. His expression softened as the door closed off, the three members of the triumvirate sitting together to plot and scheme. "How is Janna?" He asked Xavi, who slumped his shoulders. "The same as always." He admitted weakly, looking down. "She's a full statue, and she's in constant pain." Yulissa gulped, pulling at the collar of her dress. She was not looking forward to that grim future that awaited her. How long did she have to be fully functional? How long until she could no longer fight?

Only Yulissa was strong enough to beat Sigfried after all.

Once formalities were out of the way, Yulissa informed everyone of Fingolf and Relda's movements, of Fingolf protecting the Patriots, of Relda making mind control devices. "They're both trying to force your hand." Greil Grace said simply. "Your Highness, you can't let them catch your guard down." Yulissa nodded, having had a feeling it was like that. "I know." Her expression was grim. "What can I do?" The fact remained that Xavi did not have much influence yet, he was still too young. And Yulissa lacked the political experience for struggles like this. "Can't I just fight them?' Greil laughed, shaking his head. "I don't think fighting them is going to be an option."

"Is there really no way to make them change their minds?" Xavi asked, distressed. "I'm sorry, but greed and comfort often take control of people's lives, especially those with power." Greil shook his head. "Those two will never change." People didn't change. Yulissa too, would likely never change.

Her robes were torn and sweat stained, Levi was sitting in a heap, panting, hardly able to catch her breath. Zinnia stood patiently, her gaze unwavering. "I had expected that the Princess, of all Magnolians, would be better prepared to win a fight considering her Mother's disposition." Levi blushed something awful, her cheeks heating up quite a bit. "That's why I need you!" She attempted to rise, thoroughly exhausted. "I-I need you to teach me to fight so I can defeat Yulissa and take back my throne!" Zinnia seemed skeptical of her claim. "Right now, I can hardly see you claiming anything." Levi's shoulders drooped in disappointment, was she truly that bad of a fighter? "You have time of course, in two months I suppose I can whip you into a worthwhile witch." Levi bounced to her feet with renewed vim and vigor, taking Zinnia's hands in her own.

"Really?" She asked, her eyes twinkling. Zinnia nodded, offering a hand. "Your limp is better," Levi noticed, blinking. "Yes, it comes and goes." Zinnia explained as Levi rose. "I have excess mana within me, if it builds up, it impedes my ability to function," Pen came running down the stairs at that moment. "Your mana hurts you?" Levi asked, wondering if it was in anyway similar to the Pangolin Disease so many Magnolians suffered from. "That's why you can use so many high level spells without tiring?" Zinnia nodded, Pen bringing over tea for the two witches who had been dueling all morning. "Thank you Pen, that's very kind of you," Pen placed the tray down. "What is your familiar like?" Levi inquired, curious as she knew Zinnia had one.

"Protective, sometimes overly so." Zinnia replied, sipping her tea, "Is she strong?" Pen was sitting on the arm rest, she too, wanted to know what Blithe was like. "I suppose, but she is not very good at chess." Levi blinked, a bit confused. "Chess?" Zinnia nodded, taking a sip of her tea. "Yes, that is how she came to be my familiar. I summoned her, but she did not want to serve a child. I made her play a game with me. Should I win, she would become my familiar and serve me for life. Should I lose, she could take my soul and do what she wished with it." Levi's tea nearly dropped from her hands. "And you played knowing that you could die?" Zinnia shrugged, taking another sip. "I did not have much to lose, I was a child and daft. Besides, I knew that demons were not very good at chess."

It was such an obscene and strange thought, a child battling with a demon over a chess board. "What would have happened if you had lost?" Levi pondered aloud, what did demons do with souls? "Blithe probably would have eaten her," Pen mused aloud, which Zinnia confirmed with a nod of her head. The witch chuckled at Levi's complexion, which had suddenly gone pale. "What did you think Pen would have done had you summoned her without reason?" Now it was Pen's turn to go pink. "I-it's normal for demons to take human souls! It's part of what we do!"

It was always a pleasant time to spend some time at the Grace household. The noble houses of Magnolia tended to be close knit and well connected. The Arvis, Wreckum, Grace, Riven, Ina, Songyin, and Anemone families were often spending time with each other and having their children mingle. These days though the Riven and Ina families were becoming more hostile, though Yulissa still thought kindly of the children she grew up with. Tyre Ina, the son of Relda, was in an exploration troupe in search of a substance called "miasma" that was poisoning the natural wildlife in outer magical realms. Riven's daughter, Mice, was a young business lady on a business trip in Farfar, the second largest realm in the League of Magic, trying to expand business opportunities to bring more jobs to Magnolia.

The pleasant time ended when they heard the sound of magic. One of the butler lay dead on the ground as Yulissa and Xavi rushed out to see the commotion. "Assassins?" Unfortunately, due to their status it was not uncommon for them to be targeted by those who wished them harm. Yulissa pulled out her wand and Azure hissed on her head, leaping down to give her licks. "Be careful, Yule, you shouldn't fight too much!" She nodded, knowing full well the risk. But even so, she was the Queen of Magnolia, she couldn't let lowly ruffians get to her. Xavi had his wand as well, he turned to say something to Yulissa but she couldn't hear it because he was on her wrong side. "He says he'll fight with you." Azure whispered, cowering behind Yulissa because the white cat was not one who enjoyed fighting.

Blasts of magic shot at them from the ground floor, crashing against the banister as the two young nobles ducked for cover. "Azure! Go tell Adelyn to keep her father safe!" Xavi cried and the white cat nodded, dashing off. Instead of that though, Adelyn Grace left the meeting room. "I'll fight too. This is my home." Her wand spun prettily in her hands as she prepared her spells. Yulissa grit her teeth painfully. "Orgis Velmos!" A ringing sound went through the mansion, stunning any enemies who heard it. It was a spell to cause pain by making loud noises. Xavi made barriers for them as the attackers pressed up the stairwell.

"Where is Greil Grace. He needs to die." The enemy mages asked as the three nobles blocked their path. "You won't be getting to him. Why would you even want to?" Adelyn gasped then, pointing to the pink marking on their clothes. "The Mark of the Pink Rose." Her eyes hardened. "These aren't usual thugs, Yulissa." The Pink Rose was a league of assassins that took contracts for whoever had the money. "It was someone very rich who funded this attack." The assassins of the Pink Rose grinned, firing their powerful spells, shattering Xavi's barrier like it was paper. No wonder the estate guards weren't able to do anything.

They rushed up the stairs, moving aggressively, five assassins against three young nobles. "Who goes there in my domain!" Greil Grace coughed as he exited his room. A sickly old man he was, he still had too much pride to not fight for his home. His wand was drawn, sparking with power. "I'll have you all peacefully leave my premises." Yulissa narrowed her eyes. "They won't. Not without a fight." They were hired to do this. "Even so, I won't be having bloodshed in my home." He raised his wand. "So don't kill a single one, understood, children?"

Flammel had returned, appearing trouble. His vibrant hair was in a long braid down his back and he kicked off his boots upon entering the home, his robe floatingtoarwds the coat rack. "What's wrong?" Levi inquired as a cup drifted his way, he snatched it from the air, holding it out for tea. Settling into a cushy arm chair, Flammel slung his legs over the side and took a long sip before answering. "The fae are speaking, they're saying quite troubling things." Levi leaned in closer, wondering if she could sneak a lesson out of this. "What are they saying?" Zinnia did not seem to mind Levi's prying on the orange wizard. "They've prophecized that all of Mage kind is in danger, that there is a great terror coming and are preparing for a full-scale disaster." Zinnia looked up at that, it seemed her curiosity had been piqued. "Zinny, they have said that you are at the forefront of it all."

Levi looked on, feeling like an outsider. "Why would Zinny be in the center of the end of witch kind?" But the red haired witch had gone pale, her hands shaking slightly. "Before Rainier was killed, he spoke of something similar coming to pass." She said softly, her words trembling. "I predicted that I would be used as a tool, for whatever it might be. I am not aware of specifics quite yet," she placed her tea down so that it wouldn't spill. Levi reached out to take Zinnia's hand, "That means you're a victim, not the beringer. You have nothing to worry about," she attempted to smile, attempted to appear serene and embody every inch a Queen. "It's like my Mother used to say, without the right pieces for the job, you can't complete it. If we can prevent you from being used, then it won't come true." Was it simply optimistic thinking?

"You cannot outrun fate," Zinnia replied. "I was a fool for believing that I could change it. I thought if I gave her the cure, she would get better." Flammel shook his head and reached across the table. "Yue is no longer part of the procephy," both girls looked up in school. Levi had heard of Yue of course, of both her kindness and brutality. It was not a healthy relationship, but Levi was not going to comment on it. She knew that Zinnia loved Yue and wore the ring her girlfriend had given her everyday. "I think you can't outrun it, but you can change the course of it, you can defy fate." Levi took Zinnia's hand in her own, uncertian of the future, but knowing they would face whatever came, together.

Before Greil Grace joined the fight it had been an even struggle between the three young nobles and the assassins of the Pink Rose. Once he got up from his perch and added his wand to the count it became a wash. Icy daggers shot from Yulissa's wand, dancing across the air, slicing the assassins to ribbons in nonlethal areas. Grace didn't want anyone to die on his watch after all, not in his home. Azure licked her cheek once it was over and the assassins were restrained by ice pinning their limbs to the walls. It was useless to try and interrogate them, but the way they glared daggers at her made it clear they had not expected Yulissa to be here and ruin the fun. "Sorry, but if you aren't Sigfried, you don't stand a chance against me." Frail as she was, only Sigfried could challenge her in a fight.

Xavi was panting, he had tired himself out. Adelyn was rubbing at her wrist where she took some damage from a fire spell, frowning gently. "Why did they attack?" Xavi asked, peering up at Greil Grace who raised his wand to make a distress flare for the Guardians to come. "Someone paid them off." Greil muttered under his breath. "I think I know who it might be." Wasn't it obvious who it was? Relda's image went straight to Yulissa's head, an ominous image. The research director was not quite as benign as she liked to appear to be. Was this about Var Nayya again? "The Guardians are here." Yulissa said, dusting herself off, hearing the sounds. "I'll ride with them to the holding cells." Greil nodded, waving her off as the Guardians entered the premises to gather the culprits. "Thank you for the help, little Queen. I'll see you again later."

It didn't take long to reach the holding cells in the prison deep within the Hades Ward. Yulissa smiled as she gazed upon the assassin they allowed her to interrogate. A kid he was, barely older than eighteen. They were hiring young now, weren't they? "I wasn't aware the Pink Rose would resort to such untrained personnel. Your organization's really going down the drain, huh?" No comment from the prisoner even as he laid in mana blocking chains. "You're kind of pathetic. I'm just a Queen, yet you couldn't beat me? Laughable, really." It was all in jest of course, Yulissa was a strong fighter and everyone knew it and should fear it.

They did not know how frail her body was, how weak it was that she could barely stand anymore thanks to her crystalized foot's condition starting to spread and grow within her leg. They did not know her limited time left thanks to the volatile Pangolin's Disease she bore within her body. "Well, you're boring, aren't you?" They were trained not to speak when imprisoned after all. "Well, here's a gift from me to you." She placed a little bracelet onto his wrist, clasping it tight so it couldn't easily be removed. It was cursed and he let out a gasp of fear as he realized his sight was stolen from him. "Don't worry. It's not like there's much to see for you down here anyways."

The Queen limped out of the room to Azure, who was calmly waiting for her. "Let's apparate back now." Azure told her with a worried frown. "You're overdoing it again, Yule, I don't want it to spread anymore." She nodded, feeling dizzy and faint. "Yeah." Yulissa agreed. "Let's... go back home."

Levi went to sleep that night thinking about what Flammel had said. You could not outrun fate, it seemed true in every sense of the word. Eventually, it would catch up to you. "What are you thinking about?" Pen asked, laying on the bed beside her. "Everything and nothing," Levi rolled over to look at the ceiling. There were constellations painted on the roof of the attic, which had been converted into a guest room. Flammel had thought it best, least the magical forces that Yulissa employeed raid his home. Zinnia could conceal her presence, but Levi still had a long way to go before she could use the same high-level spells tha tFlammel and Zinnia could. Were Zinnia's pupils, Yue and Orie, also proficient in magic? Levi wondered as she drifted off to sleep. She hoped that one day, she could be as strong as them.

She hoped that she would make a good, strong Queen.

When morning came, Yuu and Lumier were waiting in the living room. Flammel was still there, preparing breakfast while Zinnia sat and spoke with her friends. No doubt they had much catching up to do. Levia allowed Pen to sleep in, knowing her familiar was often up, restless half the evening. "Princess!" Lumier jumped up to curtsy, "Please, you know you don't have to call me that." Levi shook her head, smiling. "It seems that there is some troubling news," Zinnia gestured to the seat across form her. Levi sat, wondering what it could be. Was it about Yule? Was she alright? Had something happened to her sister? "We captured members of the Pink Rose yesterday. They're a group of hitmen, hired assassins if you will." Yuu began to explain, seeming frustrated about something.

"They attacked Greil Grace, Adelyn's Father's home." Levi gasped, surprised and horrified. "How could they do that?" Lumier shook her head, it was clear that this had surprised them all. Yuu cleared his throat, continuing. "Most of them didn't want to talk, but Suzuya made one of them sing." Levi shivered at the idea, knowing how strong willed Suzuya was. She was most certain that, that girl could lead an entire rebellion on her own. "They had another hit put out," Yuu scratched his head, averting his eyes. "Apparently, word is beginning to spread that you're no longer asleep and no longer in Yulissa's care." Levi leaned forward, her nails digging into the cushion. "Who is the hit on?" She asked softly, but the answer was already in her stomach. "You," dread crept down her spine.

"We've all, already spoken to Suzuya." Lumier interjected, not wanting Levi to feel hopeless. "We've got a watch set up of course, if any Pink Rose members come near the house, we'll be alerted, but I don't think they know you're here. You can't leave without being disguised either," that much was obvious. Being a Princess was dangerous, sure, but to have a number hanging over your head was extra weight that Levi did not need. "Now, now," Flammel waved a hand. "Stop scaring the poor thing, all of you come and eat. Levi has much training to do."

The slumbering Seer trembled and shook in her sleep. She was sweating profusely and not doing well at all. "I gave her another dose, but it isn't working!" Pomfrey cried, despairing. Nothing she did was working. She tried so many potions to fight against the shaking, the fever burning her up. You could cook on Yue's forehead and it was clear she was in a lot of pain. "I-is there anything I can do?" Yulissa's leg was killing her today, she woke up tired and with no energy in the slightest. Still, she knew she couldn't rest, there was simply so much to do. "I don't know if there's anything anyone can do." Pomfrey's hands worked tirelessly at trying to solve the problem.

"Show me what's wrong." Yulissa had a very intensive education in magic, so she had a good background in all forms of magic. Though she specialized in curses, she could use pretty much any magic, though Occlumency and Charms were both her weak points. "Maybe I can see it." It was worth a try at least. "Here." Pomfrey waved her arm, marked lights glowing as Yue's internal organs were put on display. "There's some sort of dark substance eating away at her organs, but I don't know what to do. Nothing's clearing that black ooze out." But at least the poison in her heart was gone. "The Laetitia's is cured." Yulissa said softly, oddly relieved. "Yes, but there's still problems.

That was when Yulissa noticed something in the corner, a weird black puddle. Could it be related to that? She walked over to it to try and clean it with a Purifico spell, but the black puddle transformed into a small demon girl, glaring at her. "Don't interrupt my sadness puddle!" Rainarch whined, the mist demon's displeasure very clear on her small features. "Try a wormroot potion." Yulissa suggested with a frown. "I did already, it didn't work." Wormwood usually helped against miasma, which came as a result of corrupted mana. While mages were born as pure mana as babies, as they grew older if they didn't practice magic safely, their mana had a higher chance of corrupting. Mages didn't typically have life expectancy, but only stronger mages could keep their mana in control and as pure as possible as they aged.

"I'll do more research. Keep at it, okay?" For now though she had to go. She had to try and find Zinnia, she had to go after the Patriots to get Levi back... she had to deal with both the Pink Rose Guild as well as the rising terrorist acts popping up throughout the city. A Queen's work never finished. She limped down the hall, intending to reach the curse room when she was stopped by Silas. "Yule... we need to talk." His soft eyes looked at her with care. "Here, take my arm." Yulissa's heart pounded. Could it be? Would her feelings finally be answered? A faint blush appeared on her cheeks. "Thank you." She accepted his arm and followed his lead.

It burned, the world had burst into bright lights of technicolor envy. It had consumed her in shades of red, yellow, and orange. Flickering, it touched her skin, curious, engulfing, burning her alive. It stole the breath from her lungs and made her heart race with anxiety. It was going to kill her, wasn't it? "This is a hearth demon," suddenly she could feel the cool air, it rushed at her as she collapsed in a heap on the floor. "Levi!" Pen screamed, grasping her. Levi was breathing hard, clutching at her chest. "Hearth demons," Flammel began to explain, "are relatively harmless, at least, when they can be kept under control." It leaped into the fireplace, cackling as the wood chips began to smolder.

"You shouldn't scare others like that!" Pen scolded the flame, which seemed to stick its tongue out at the two girls. "You can control spirits that don't necessarily contract with you," Flammel began to explain. Zinnia had dozed off in the plush lounge chair behind him. Asleep, Levi could see how young the red haired witch truly was and the burden she carried on her shoulders. It seemed that Flammel had caught her staring, as he too, had fallen silent. "The poor child has always been holding on to more than she can carry." He picked up a blanket that had been folded over the side of the chair and placed it over Zinnia. "Too much worry for one witch," he seemed saddened.

"How long have you two known each other for?" Levi inquired, taking a seat. "I've known Zinnia for a very long time," he replied. "Was she always so alone?" Pen nudged Levi in the side, wishing her Master would not speak in such terms. "I mean, she seems... lonely." Flammel smiled, it seemed saddened, but wise all the same. "Some of us are cursed to live lonely lives." He rose, "Now, back to your lesson," Levi jumped to her feet, eager to learn. They spent the next few hours learning spells, until Levi felt dry on mana and Zinnia had woken up and made corrections in just about everything the young witch did. Levi practically collapsed by the time the sun had set, exhausted to her very core.

"I warned you I would not take this lightly, did I not?" Zinnia asked, unrolling the sleeves of her robe. "Yes, you did warn me, but I can take it," Levi smiled. She was determined to learn, determined to become the one htat would beat her sister. She wanted to take the crown back with her own two hands and wand. "I have faith that this training will help me become a witch like my Mother." Zinnia seemed to cringe at that and Levi faltered, recalling the sins that her Mother had perputrated unto others. "I mean, strength wise of course. I have no intention of purging any other magical city and forcing them to become citizens of Magnolia."

In the indoor garden of magical plants where Yulissa first hexed Levi into a deep three month sleep Silas finally stopped walking, turning to face her with a troubled expression. Yulissa was a bit tired from all the walking but she appreciated having some alone time with him. Silas had always been the apple of her eye. The way he was gentle and kind, the way he was strong from a military family background, the way he said her name and looked at her - how could she do anything but fall in love? With a faint blush on her cheek she waited for Silas Arvis to speak. "Yulissa, there's something we need to talk about." He had had a hand on her arm the whole time to help her walk and he was always careful to speak on her right side so that she could hear him. Someone thoughtful like him wasn't a common find. "It's important... but first of all, are you okay? Your cheeks are flushed."

Yulissa waved it off. "Just a bit tired. Today's a bad day for me." She lied easily of course. While she wasn't as good at it as precious Levi, Yulissa too knew how to remain as composed as possible. She and Levi were both refined and well bred. He was going to talk to her about her feelings, she already knew it. "Please, go on." He nodded, finding a nice glade with shade for the both of them to sit in. "It's about you... and Levi. We know she's in the Patriots, that wand was unmistakable." Of course it wasn't going to be about love, was it? "She is. We saw her the day we eliminated the Prelinians from Magnolia." But what did he want to say about it? "She would be safest here in the palace. You know they're using her as a puppet. They plan to depose you and put her on the throne and control her from the shadows."

Of course it was going to be like that. Why else would the Patriots be fighting against her? Yulissa knew she wasn't exactly a kind ruler, but what she was doing was necessary for the good of Magnolia. "What do you propose? We hunt down the hope of the citizens? They all love the Patriots. It'll be a full scale rebellion of the lower class against the upper class." She had to be careful with how to proceed in this affair. Even as her heart ached that Silas obviously loved Adelyn, she had to put her duties as the Queen of Magnolia first and foremost. "Levi needs to be made aware that they're using her." Silas frowned. "She's always been a naive sort. Your mother's doing - but we can help fix that. I don't know why Adelyn's just letting Suzuya do this to her..."

As much as Yulissa loved Adelyn, she didn't want to hear that name right now. "Enough about Adelyn. She's a Patriot, so we have to consider her an enemy for now." Something had to be done. Levi simply couldn't remain there with the Patriots. "E-enemy?" Silas made an about face, staring at her oddly. "We grew up with her. She's not an enemy, she's just misguided." Yulissa sighed, waving her arm in a grand gesture. "She's siding with those who would manipulate my little sister. Of course that makes her an enemy." It was sad for Uncle Greil, but Levi's well being was her first priority. At all cost Yulissa needed to have her returned safely to the palace.

"I think I'm getting better at this," Levi smiled as she lay down in bed that night. "I think you are too," Pen agreed, braiding her Master's hair. The two of them were ready to doze off into a blissful dream. "Zinnia still kicks my butt, but the lessons are sticking. I think I could actually be good at fighting," it wasn't that Levi was eager to battle, it was that she had never been allowed to engage in any sort of fighting. Now, she was finding something she never knew she could be good at. "I think I can do this, we're whittling down on the days." It had only been one week since Levi had begun to stay with Sir Flammel, but Levi felt as though she was making much improvement. Levi was not eager to fight her sister per say, she was merely... eager to test her new abilities.

The last thing Levi ever expected when she awoke were leaves beneath her head. Confusedly, she sat up, attempting to gain her bearings. "Pen, come!" But Pen did not come. Panicked, Levi sat up, looking around frantically at her unfamiliar surroundings. Beside her was a stream of water, rushing past her head. On the other side were trees. What was this? Some sort of exercise? Had she accidentally teleported in her sleep? "Hello!" Levi called, only for there to be no answer. "Hello! Anyone there!" She swallowed hard. The key to this would be to stay calm, Levi had to keep a level head and think logically if she wanted to figure out where she was. Above her, the sun was already high in the sky, signaling that Levi had been asleep for quite some time.

"Pen, come." Levi tried again, feeling desperate. She looked around, realizing that thankfully, her wand was on the ground beside where she had laid. "We can do this," Levi took in a deep breath. These could be the woods outside of the Artemis ward, or, she could be in some unfamiliar land, but how would she have gotten there? Kidnapping? No, no one knew that Levi was staying at Sir Flammel's residence. Therefore, this had to be some sort of test. Yes, Zinnia was testing her, wasn't she? That was why Pen would not come. "Locomotor Tendium," she cast, attempting to figure out which way was up and which was down. Behind her, a small light burst forth, signaling that, that way was north.

"Alright, we'll start going north and look for higher ground. Stay by the water and..." and what? Wait for help? Fend beasts off on her own? Levi shook her head, she could not scare herself before the task even began. Gritting her teeth, Levi began to make her way due north. Her stomach growled, but luckily she was beside a stream that could provide her with water. Should she fish? No, that would merely take time away from whatever task was laid ahead of her. Levi clambered up the rocks, down the path of the stream. She was still wearing her night gown and had no shoes, but the leaves were soft beneath her feet and the spring air was warm. So long as she kept a level head and stayed calm, Levi figured that this task would be a breeze.

With a warrant in their hands, the Military Police stormed the building, taking the doors down. Silas walked in with the squad. Did he want to do this? Not really, but it was the Queen's orders. Thankfully it was not Adelyn's name on the arrest warrant, but another name. He was glad that Yulissa decided to finally take action, it wouldn't do for naive little Levi to be taken advantage of and be made a puppet. "This is the Military Police!" They declared as they pulled out their wands, pinning everyone down to the ground with frecknis before anyone could react. Even Adelyn would pinned down, eyes wide in exasperation as the Patriots were rounded up in the room, with some particular faces not present.

"We have orders to arrest Suzuya Hoshimiya for having criminal connections with the renowned terrorist, Sigfried Dennes." Chief Longhorn growled, grabbing Suzuya roughly by the arm, dragging her painfully with him. "You're coming with us, you filthy terrorist." One of the patriots let out a cry, Lumier Price. "What do you mean-" She was silenced by a glare from Suzuya, who shook her head. "You're lucky if you're all not put under investigation too. The Patriots could very well be a front for terrorist activity." A dark haired boy stood tall and proud as he pulled out his wand. "What evidence?" Silas didn't want a fight, that would just be too messy. "We'll reveal our evidence for the upcoming trial." He said before Longhorn could interject. "Please remain calm until then. If Miss Hoshimiya turns out innocent, we can release her, no harm done." Yuu's eyes were indignant, it was clear he did not believe it would go so smoothly.

The wand sparked brilliantly as dark marks appeared on Suzuya's body. She groaned and remained silent even as Yulissa gave her the pain curse. "You don't have to act tough, I know it hurts." Yulissa told her in the dark dungeon below the palace. It was a special high priority containment area where special criminals would be placed. Azure was at her side, silently trying to lick Yulissa and soothe her but the white cat was afraid, she was afraid, she had never seen Yulissa like this before. "Normally... when torturing someone... you ask them questions." Suzuya murmured as her skin burned and her flesh peeled thanks to the curse. It was all nerve pain of course, there would be no external or internal damage. She would never die from this.

"I already know you won't answer my questions." The Queen said simply. She was tired, she was in pain, but she knew that this was what she had to do. "Someone like you doesn't fall to torture." Suzuya's grin was ghastly. It was frustrating, but sometimes you had to go to these methods if you wanted to do what was required to protect someone from being manipulated. "But maybe your Patriots will be baited into revealing where Levi is being kept so I can have her returned to my side." She would not let them manipulate her sister. She would not let them make her a puppet.

Blood, it ran between her fingertips and stained her nightgown. Levi coughed, a sea of crimson sputtering from her lips. "Why?" She whispered, the branch having impaled her side. "We cannot have you threatening Quene Yulissa's reign." The hooded figure knelt, cupping her chin in his fingertips. In his left hand was Pen's soul piece, in his right, Levi's wand. Where were Zinnia and Flammel? Wasn't this just a test? They couldn't be dead, could they? Her heart hammered in her chest, it was making her bleed out faster. "Don't worry, you won't die, not here of course. We have to plant you in the right place first." Her hair was grabbed, she could taste copper in her mouth as a spell flew from his wand. "Lyracus Savona," a chill danced down her spine, ghostly hands grasping her; then darkness.

The floorboards above her head creaked with the shifting weight of bodies. One of her eyes was swollen shut, a piece of cloth stuffed into her mouth to keep from crying out. "Shh," a hand pet her head as she moaned. She could taste blood in her mouth, her hands were tied behind her, she was laying on the cold, hard ground. "Yulissa makes such a fine Queen, don't you agree?" Her captor smiled, exceptionally vicious teeth glinting in the low light. She could see her wand and Pen's soul piece on the other side of the room, sitting on a table. Where was she? Levi had no idea. "Don't worry, she'll find your corpse soon enough, but by then it will have been too late. I'll make it look like you put up a good fight," he pinched her cheeks; then darkness.

They were in a carriage, her wounds throbbing with each bump and jostle of the wagon wheels. Where was her captor taking her? Levi did not know. "I've planted clues for Yulissa, I'm sure she's seen the first one by now. Suzuya didn't know she was carrying it, but she brought it right to her." He rubbed his hands together eagerly. "Waaaa," Levi attempted to croak. "Water?" He removed the cloth, holding a container of water up to her lips. It was tepid and warm, but Levi drank as though it was her last. He tied the cloth back around her mouth, prohibiting her from speaking once more. "It's too bad, you could have been a good Queen. Too bad, what a shame. If there wasn't so much money riding on this I would play with you a little bit more, but a deal is a deal and I'm getting a lot for this you know. Well, you probably don't."

There was a cave, dark and cold. Levi's nightgown was ripped and stained with blood, she was not sure what spell her captor used to stab her hands and legs and hold her above the ground. "Such a pretty face, it's too bad, it really is." She felt something hard hit her, her head snapping back. "Don't hold it in now, those tears are precious, after all. We need a genuine performance if the Queen is going to believe the Patriots did this to you." Levi did not want to cry, she did not want to admit that she was weak, but mostly importantly, she did not want Yulissa to find her like this, especially not dead. Another spell hit her, this time burning her. "Go on," the pain was overbearing, but Levi did not make so much as a peep.

She could not cast without her wand, she could not cast without her words. "If you don't start crying, I might just kill you faster."
