"I'm the most sane insane person you're going to meet,"

a character in “Trinkets for Dr. Owl”, originally authored by FamishedPants, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Image

Zachary is a 23 year old man who gives off a kind and friendly vibe wherever he goes. He has brown hair that in the back, reaches his neck, while the hair in the front is cut to keep out of his eyes. His eyes are brown, oddly complementing his hair in this way. Standing at 5'11 and weighing in at around 175 lbs, this kind young man is also in pretty good shape and has an athletic build on him. His weight in mostly evenly distributed and his muscles aren't too defined, with the exception being his abdoman and down, which is because he uses his legs more than anything.

He is usually seen wearing a smile, and his character only helps reinforce the warmness of the smile. Normally, he is seen wearing a school uniform. However, if he's not wearing that, then he tends to wear long sleeved shirts with jeans in a mixture of colors or whatnot. Zachary is known to be EXTREMELY handsome, and when in school, he'll occasionally get asked out by complete strangers because of this. These woman are of course, rejected as he has developed trust issues do to both of pairs of his parents casting him out and betraying him in their own way.

While he does appear against violence and anything that goes with it, he did take classes on Tae Kwon Do. This was more because his parents insisted heavily, which he now figured was because they were just going to send him off. Thus, he developed a liking to sparring with others who could present him a challenge. That being said, he is fully against meaningless conflict and isn't the one who starts fights, though his inability to deal with bullying or negativity towards woman have gotten him into a couple, though he wouldn't admit this as he does get embarassed by this.

Image

Now, as handsome and kind as he looks.... his 'other' sides have you raising your guard with just his looks. Zachary suffers from D.I.D, and when he switches personalities... his face will show less pleasant emotions.

If he's in his 'asshole' state, his smile appears crooked and corrupt, he himself gives off a malicious air, and his voice deepens just slightly for whatever reason, but this isn't noticeable until you've been around him for a while. His eyes also seem to show hidden, threatening and condescending intent behind them, and these will be what gives him away if not his tone and choice of words.

When he is 'insane', his head is sometimes seen leaning to one side and his eyes dart around the area, as if looking in one place for too long will burn them. His smirk then turns into a disturbing, irratic smile that usually creeps anyone out, and his eyes are usually wide open. This 'change' is instantly noticeable by anyone who looks or hears him.

Personality

Zachary, when not 'changed', is what he looks like: A kind, handsome young man. He tends to not harbor any hatred towards anyone or anything, and is a fun person to be around. While his looks suggest him to be a playboy, and the constant girls asking him out would bolster this look, he tends to be extremely shy in towards that exact subject. He actually has never dated, and has a stance against dating just because of looks. Most people would agree that he likes to joke a bit more than the average person, and he would too. But, he can switch tones in an instant and get completely serious if the situation warrants it.

Now Zachary when 'changed' is... complicated. As his odd smirk suggests, there is something wrong with him. If you wanted to get technical, there are actually three Zacharies in one body. He will either change into a cold, ruthless and asshole person who does his best to make an enemy out of anyone and everyone. Or, he'll turn outright insane.

When he's insane, his eyes shoot about in many different directions, he mumbles to himself constantly, and he apparently has the urge to kill everyone, though he has yet to do so. His speech and tone are tremendously different from his real self or even his other personality. It's preferable not to speak to him when he's like this, as he usually spouts complete nonsense and laughs crazily. "NEEYAHAHAHAH!"

In his 'Asshole' personality, he is just that: An Asshole. Well, he's also a bit on the bad side and won't hesitate to cause someone trouble nor pain. Regretfully, his Tae Kwon Do training has been used in a negative way in a few occasions. However, he doesn't completely go against character, and still manages to only engage those with who he can evoke a threatening response from (He won't fight people who won't fight back or can't fight back)

Although Zach will befriend people quiet easily, he had developed trust issues and cannot bring himself to date in order to protect himself. He is also depressed, due to the stress and betrayal of trust that occurred, but he keeps a happy face nonetheless so that he doesn't bother others with it.

Equipment

Zach has with him most of the time, medication. His diagnosis of DID was shown to be so severe that the meds actually don't do much, but any help was good enough to him. He needs to take it at least thrice a day, and if he feels like he's about to have an episode. However, since the episodes tend to happen instantly, he doesn't usually have time to take it.

He also always carries around his MP3, which is filled to the brim with metal, rock and country music. Most of the time he is by himself on a walk or something, he can be seen singing to whatever song is playing.

His Cell Phone is on his person at all times as well, as it should be. He sees no use in the thing if it isn't around to be used, so anyone calling him should usually get him on the other end.

History

Even though his parents showed complete disgust at him and his siblings, Zach actually grew up loving them tremendously. He was born a year before Lorelei, making him the second youngest out of the group. When he was nine, and his mother killed his father, he snapped mentally. For whatever reason, probably due to his inability comprehend that his parents could hate him or themselves for that matter. Thus, the kid was doomed to grow up sharing a body. His mental illness didn't show up until he was fifteen, actually, and by that point he had gotten in with a family and seperated from the rest of his siblings.

When he started showing signs of his alternate personalities, his new parents were surprised, to say the least. This kind, young boy was now acting completely his opposite. Originally, they thought he was just going through a phase, but after seeing the switches happen almost instantly, they went to get help. They found his disorder, and after a while, they themselves had developed a hatred towards the boy, that surfaced when they gave him the boot the day after his eighteenth birthday. Sadly, this also came to a shock to him, and he then developed his third, insane personality.

Since he was old enough to take care of himself, he managed to get an apartment and a job, the boss of said job being a friend of his, so when he 'changed', the man understood. Zach isn't the brightest person in the world, and nobody would call him a genius, but to say he's stupid or an idiot would be a complete underestimation of his abilities. His real strength is in his physical abilites, which are bolstered by constant working out and training.

If you don't like this... tell me what's wrong and I'll edit it. BUT DO NOT REJECT! HOLY BALLS THIS TOOK FOREVER!

So begins...

Zach was having an uneventful but nice day so far. He hadn't changed into... them, and he was done working for the day. So, with nothing else to do, he went on a bikeride. It was a bit further than normal, but he had the time to do so... well, he thought he did, then it rained and he basically said 'fuck it' at that point and continued riding. So, his clothes weren't in the best of shape, but he hadn't worn anything that was good or important to him, just a jacket over his long sleeved, black shirt and jeans.

He had been riding around for about two hours and was working up a sweat when he turned a corner to notice an odd sight. From where he was, it appeared as if someone had passed out and a man was dunking her feet in a pot of something. The thought of that man being a cannibal briefly crossed his mind, but eventually decided that if that were the case, he wouldn't be doing that out in the middle of the public's eye. So, he figured the woman was injured in some way, and that he was helping her.

The handsome young man insantly thought he should help, and was about to stop before the unexpected happened....he crashed. The bike had been going down the road rather quickly, with Zach on top and because he was paying more attention to the girl and guy, he failed to notice the car that was parked just next to them. At the speed he hit the car at, he didn't simply smack into the back, no, he wasn't that lucky. Instead, he gained a rather abnormal amount of air from this and propelled just over the car and onto the street in front of the vehicle.

Instantly, his back pulsed with pain and he groaned audibly as his hands shot to his back subconciously. "OW!" he cried, writhing on the floor in pain.

Ryan was leaning on the car panting. Jogging from the house to here with that heavy pot was not fun. He grumbled and dropped his head onto the hood. He was tired. HE needed sleep. and he needed more answers. Whre was that book? He had dropped it on the porch when he took Rory to the hospital. He wished he had it now....

Owl was tending to rory but Ryan wasnt paying attention. He was fairly sure Owl knew what he was doing. This was really the first time he was alone with his thoughts in a while. And he began to think about the shadows. It just came on him, he couldnt control it. The fear... It started flooding back. He shuddered and grabbed his bicep. The fear was cold. He kept reliving the experiance over and over again.

He began to wonder if Owl had been through the same thing. He seemed knowledgeable about what Ryan experianced. Maybe that was what happened to him, if Owl was ever normal in the first place....

His thoughts shifted Alex. And whether or not she was feeling this fear as well.

From her he moved on to the young girl he danced with. It was a little while ago. He couldn remember her name... Sarah? Maybe....

He wondered how her life turned out in Glendock. If she survived Josten's initial attack. If she was alive during the first painting. What kind of life ould she have lead in that kind of world. He suddenly found himself invigorated him. He felt a greater need to save Glendock now.

His thoughts were interrupted by a crash. He gazed from the roof of the car and saw a boy fly across hs vision and land on the street in front of the car. "What the hell?"

He made his way to the boy and squatted next to him. He poked him in the shoulder... "Hey... you alright pal?" he asked. Owl didnt seem to care too much and was still tending to Rory.

Before he could even respond to the first boy who had worried about him, he found himself in a car. Was he being kidnapped? That was a high possiblity, considering that he didn't even mutter a single word before he appeared in the car. Just before he was about to, an older, taller man poked him, evoking a cry of pain from Zach.

"Ow! That hurts!" he exclaimed, rubbing his wound. The pain still pulsated through his body, and he wasn't doubting the possiblity of a huge bruise on his back later on. After shoving the pain away from his focus, he sat up straight and spoke. "Are you guys kidnapping me or something? I'm confused here...." he admitted, his eyes glancing around to survey the small confined space of the car. His eyes eventually settled on the older man who gave off strange vibes with just how he looked and even how he tone in which he talked.

"Not kidnapping. Helping. I can fix you up at the house then have you out my door soon enough," Owl promised. Though he wondered if this boy would prove useful. Who was he? Where did you come from? the questions kept repeating over and over in his mind.

Something peculiar emanated from him. He wasn't normal. He had experienced much...

It was the same aura Owl had seen in Lorelei when first seeing her, noticing more than what she showed in her expression. Owl had a knack for noticing such things and he leaned closer to the boy curiously.

"Would you like...to help us with something?"

"Err... I guess," he answered unsurely. The slight pause told him something was going to be... off about the request. However, what that was has yet to be revealed, and so he'd just assume it was something about the red head that was unconcious at the moment. Speaking of her, something was familiar about her. Maybe Zach had seen her before when he was on a ride or something.

Whatever it was about her, it was nagging at the back of his mind. It was as if he knew what it was, but couldn't recall at the time. Damn, one of those things like forgetting the name of someone in a movie and then bugging yourself until you got it.

He sighed, then rolled his neck, feeling it pop a few times before speaking up. "Yeah, I guess I can help. I have nothing to do for the rest of the week," he explained. "Anyways, I am Zachary," he offered his hand awkwardly in the cramped space of the car.

Owl glanced to the offered hand, to acknowledge it, then moved on. "We've lost two on our team and you would be greatly appreciated...are you easily skittish?"

He didn't seem to be and Owl touched his forehead, headache still pulsing, knowing something was off about this boy. Again, he leaned toward the stranger. "Zachary...you've been through a lot. I believe you are a strong person because of it. Would you say your strength may become a liability however?"

Owl knew Lorelei had grown into a young woman who was stubborn and followed through, good traits to have, though could land her in a bit of trouble. Perhaps this young gentleman had a different story attached to him. Perhaps he could keep a level head and not act rashly...

But somehow Owl knew better than to hope that an earthling would provide such stable assistance.

"Ummm...." he sighed and retracted his hand as the man spoke without even introducing himself. Oh well, he'd just ask later if possible, or maybe somebody else would tell him. He wondered how this man could basically tell there was something up with himself. He hadn't really even said much and the guy apparently thought he was strong in whatever way.

He spoke up and warned him. "I suffer from D.I.D or Split Personalities due to trauma when I was younger, so that's my bigger weakness," he relayed. "So when I'm changed, yeah, I'm a... liability," he sighed, unwanting to say that, but it was definetly true. Whenever he wasn't himself, the others really only seemed to cause trouble wherever he went and mess things up. He sat back with a bit of embarassment on his face while they continued riding towards his house.
.
.
.
Zachary entered the house, which was... slanted. He didn't remember this house from back when he originally lived here, but then again, he didn't go around town for fun that much, so he probably just never came over here. Besides the house being at an angle, it looked and felt like it was old, or at least older than the houses around it. That, and it didn't seem like it was even completely stable. With another, smaller sigh, Zach found himself sitting on a chair as he waited for whatever was going to happen to happen.

The older, taller man, who had gone upstairs for a brief period of time, came back downstairs and gathered everyone together. It felt kind of awkward since Zach didn't know any of these people, but for now, he'd entertain them. He smiled and simply waited for the man to get started.

"Not sure. But I'm planning on heading out too. You mind?"

Hayley gave Alex an annoyed look, god, why did she have to ask, Hayley was not a child. It was only a moment though before the older girl had left the crooked house calling out a goodbye over her shoulder. Hayley looked around, it felt weird being the only person in this house. She started wandering into rooms and inspecting cupboards hoping to find something interesting. She had just reached the door to the Doc’s basement when she heard the front door open again. Hayley walked down the corridor to see Ryan and the Doc carrying Rory. She watched them put her on the couch before The Doc disappeared into the attic. “What the hell happened to Rory?” Hayley asked Ryan quizzically while looking over at the redhead. She looked back around the room and noticed another boy. “And new guy...?” Hayley asked confusingly looking between the new and Ryan. The new guy looked familiar in some strange way put she couldn’t place it. Odd.

After a few moments Owl returned and gathered them all up seemingly annoyed to not find everyone. “Um, Aiden left a little while ago and Alex just left then, I don’t know where they went though.” Hayley supplied unhelpfully. Though when Owl mentioned warm clothing she remembered that she had yet to change out of her dress. So she left everyone in the living room to change into something warmer and more practical for running away from monsters. God, she hoped that wouldn’t be happening but who knew with The Doc and his crazy schemes.

Unfortunately, Zach didn't have anything else to change into. After all, his clothes were more or less 'balanced' for weather. He wouldn't really mind whatever weather he was faced with, as long as it wasn't in the extreme. Then again, he could just shed clothing if it got too warm, and he did better in colder weathers anyways. With nothing else to do, Zach got a little impatient.

"Does anyone wanna help the new guy out at all? I must admit I'm a little confused as to what I will be assisting with, and I would love for somebody to clarify the job for me..." he called out to whoever would listen while wearing a warm but sheepish smile, that beamed with his nice character. In addition to learning why he was here, he also wanted to get acquiented with some of the people he'd be around while he did whatever it was he was doing. Actually, he half-expected the older man to give him the information he was looking for in a minute, so he really just wanted to learn a few names and whatnot.

Rory sat alone in the dark, her legs crossed underneath her. She could feel the darkness pressing down on her shoulders, like someone were leaning on her, forcing her to collapse within herself. She tried to breathe, but her body wouldn't function. She was too compacted together, her body couldn't move properly.

No one loves you. Your own mother tried to kill you.

She felt tears trickle down her cheeks, the salty beads escaping into her mouth. She tried to push herself up, but the pressure was too great. She was surely break her back before being able to tear away from the darkness.

Why would anyone love someone like you. You care more about fictional beings, myths, than real people. No one wants to be around that.

Rory released a harsh breath, as her body broke. Falling further down to her knees.

Even Owl is going to leave you someday. And then, you'll have nothing.

Rory tried to scream at the voice. To make it go away, but she couldn't bring herself to speak. More tears poured down her face, making her face feel bloated and sticky.

You're going to die. Alone. With nothing but your books to mourn you.

Rory jolted forward, her head pounding. Her eyes darted around the small living room, re familiarizing herself with the crooked house. She was shaking, freezing, but her skin felt like lava to the touch. She took in gulps of breaths, trying to calm down her pounding heart. She sank back into the cushions, eyes glued to the ceiling. She felt tears trickling down her cheeks, falling into her hair.

She glanced around the space, to find it completely empty, except one person. She quickly sat up, rubbing the tears from her eyes. "I'm sorry." She said giving a shaky laugh. "Who are you?"

Zachary stumbled backwards as the previously unconcious girl's head flung upwards and she scanned the area as if to make sure nothing was going to kill her. That was all too familiar for the man who'd done the same thing many times before. Reoccuring nightmares sucked, and always caused him to wake up in an odd state of mind. The woman glanced up at him with fresh tears in her eyes that she quickly rubbed away before laughing shakily and asking who he was.

He smiled as he glanced down at her while fully understanding how she might've felt. "I am Zachary," he said. "I was riding a bike and noticed you on the ground with your feet in the water before I... err, slammed into the back of a car like an idiot," he laughed as he explained the situation. "Somehow, I ended up here, and apparently I'm supposed to help with something that I've yet to be informed about so..." he extended his arm to her and continued beaming a warm smile.

"...I'm Zach, and you are?"

Wednesday 4:59 PM

Yup. Fifteen, not thirteen.

"Lorelei," Owl addressed, stepping into the room and a conversation he noticed, Zachary's hand extended. He eyed the boy. "Are you still hurt? Do you need mending?"

Before he could response, because he looked absolutely fine and Owl cared little at the moment about HIS well-being, he turned to the red head and asked, "How are you feeling? Sans nightmares of course."

He took out a toothpick and chewed on the tip, adjusting his round glasses.

Rory laughed. "Lorelei, but you can call me Rory." She took his hand and shook it happily, glad to have her mind off her nightmare. "Zachary," She repeated. "I have a brother named Zach. He was a year older than me."

She mused looking up at the ceiling. "So, you slammed into my car. It better not be dented." She laughed again. The atmosphere this man gave off was calming Rory's hectic nerves. She felt so comfortable around him, like she had known him her whole life.

"And don't expect to be informed on anything anytime soon." She explained. "Owl likes to leave a little mystery. He's crazy like that."

She sank back into the couch, crossing her legs. "I can try and be of assistance to you. What would you like to know?"

"Lorelei?..."

No, can't be little sis, can it? I haven't seen her in years! There's no way she would still be here after what happened! Maybe.... she probably took it better than I if this is in fact her, I mean... I guess I was the more emotionally attached one of the group. As weird as it seems, maybe that's it. She does give an oddly familiar look about her, and if she has nightmares that evoke that kind of response, then it makes sense.... but....

As soon as he was about to dismiss the thought, Lorelei spoke.

"I have a brother named Zach. He was a year older than me."

His eyes widened at her statement. If she wasn't his sister, nobody was. What were the odds of someone sharing the same unique name that she had, and that she had a brother named Zach as well. None, actually. It wasn't possible as far as he was concerned and so, he smiled as he realized that he found a family member that had long ago been seperated from him. Someone who shared a similar, traumatic event, because his and hers were one and the same.

"Lorelei...." he paused, thinking over how he could tell her, and thought of a perfect way. It may bring back bad memories, but in this way, she would instantly know that he was her sibling. He leaned down to her ear, and whispered their biolgical mother's name, one that was definetly not shared by anyone else in the world.

Rory's eyes widened as Zach leaned down, pressing his lips to her ear. He whispered her name. She pushed away from Zach, her head reeling. No one knew that name, that name was lost to everyone years ago. She looked up at him, his eyes were the same as hers. The same dark brown, holding something back. Hiding many secrets.

"No, that's...how do you know that name?" She questioned.

She hadn't seen any of her siblings since that night, and she hoped never to see them. As much as she loved her siblings, seeing them would just bring back painful memories. For everyone. That night changed everyone in their family. Rory had reoccurring nightmares, a need to please everyone, and a scar that would permanently remain on her body. She remembered her oldest brother being admitted into a mental facility, but that was years ago. Who knows what has happened to him since.

Who knows what could be wrong with Zach.

She felt more tears trickle down her cheeks. She tried to wipe them away, but they wouldn't stop. Dammit! Stop crying you idiot! Crying got you nowhere! Just suck it up!

"Then it's true..."

He backed off, knowing EXACTLY how she was feeling. A part of him wanted to cry, seeing as anything related to that night did. But, he couldn't let himself now, she was already doing it enough for the both of them. Maybe it was a mistake to let her know. Well, he couldn't change that now, and hiding it might've only caused complications later on.

Looking at her eyes or his... there wasn't really a difference besides who they were on, he saw... normal. She may be troubled, but he could tell there wasn't anything AS wrong with her as there was with him. She might've been lucky off, for one of his siblings. All of the others were AT LEAST antisocial with horrible depression that ruined their chances at a somewhat normal life. All of them besides the eldest, who wasn't even lucky enough to only develop temporary insanity like Zach, no, he was Zach's insane side full time, with no stops.

Regretfully, Zach wasn't really a lucky one either... he was more or less a ticking timebomb waiting to happen. He wanted to tell Rory about his problems, so that she wouldn't be caught offguard if he changed. He wanted her to know that even though he might appear completely crazy or assholish, that he was somewhat sane after the events, but it might just end up hurting her more at the current moment. So, instead of telling her at this time, he simply strained a smile.

"...I guess it's been a while... I'll give you space then..." he finally mumbled.

Owl stared at the two, brows furrowing. When they finally silenced he asked, "That's all nice and well, but we have Trinkets to retrieve, no? Or did you forget that while you were sleeping Lorelei?"

Rory glared at Owl. He was really getting on her nerves lately. She wiped away her tears and looked back up at Zachery. She couldn't believe she hadn't seen it before. The bone structure, the eyes. He was a spitting image of their father.

"Sorry about him," She said looking back at where Owl once stood. "He...has a lot to worry about."

She looked back at her brother, a smile on her face. "We should follow him, he has information for you. I can fill in the blanks as we go."

"Sounds like a plan, I guess," Zachary smiled back, ignoring the rude old man that just left. He offered his hand to his sister as he spoke. Luckily, Rory didn't look much like her mother, as he could tell that'd only bring her pain to look in the mirror each morning if she did.

"An odd coincidence, is it not? I really didn't think any of my siblings would still be here after that. I wasn't for a while actually, just moved back a week ago and I'm still getting used to it..." he sighed. "But, I'm glad. Family is important, this much is true, regardless of how a certain couple thought about the subject"

Rory smiled. Although what he said wasn't a happy thought, she couldn't help but be glad that she found one of her siblings at least semi-okay. She had no idea what was hidden behind those eyes, but he was family.

"My adoptive parents love it here," She explained. "We live nowhere near our old house, so I don't see it very much. The fact of the matter is that I've moved on. My subconscious hasn't, but I have." She laughed.

She led him upstairs, explaining things about the house, and how she had come to work for Dr. Owl. "He liked me, I guess. Said I had potential. I still have no idea what he's talking about." She mused. "I kept telling myself that I would only do this for a little while. But I fell in love."

Zach gave her a look that clearly meant her words came out wrong. "Not with Owl. God no." She corrected. "With his home. It was such a beautiful country before the new rule. I would love to see it in it's glory. That's why I'm still here. That's why I want to help him. I want to see it just as badly as he does."

She looked up at Zach, who still wore a confuse look. She laughed. He looked so much like their father. The happy smile he showed warmed her heart. Somehow, long before her or her siblings were born, she was sure her father had smiled like that. Perhaps looked at their mother with loving eyes. She had never seen it, but she couldn't help but hope that her parents had once loved each other. At least enough to actually want to have children together.

"I must be confusing you. Doc is better at explaining it then me. His insanity makes it a bit more believable."
