Weston listened curiously. It seemed horrific to think of women being forced to marry at such young ages. While the salmon sizzled away, he turned around to face her. "Where I'm from," he said, speaking slowly and choosing his words with care "there's only one thing women can't do. Women can cook and clean, or they can hunt and go to battle, but women are not permitted to rule. Something about the royal spirit being passed from father to son, I always thought it was nonsense," he told her, and then, fearing he'd already said too much, he promptly turned back to his fish. "So, is it true? Did my book give you crazy ideas about the world?" he asked with a light chuckle.

Amira listened while he spoke and nodded. "Certain women were allowed to hold high places in the council, but only if their husbands had died, or were away. And then they were to act based upon their husbands previously laid out views. If she were suspected to make a ruling that was based upon her own wishes, she would be removed from the council." She said and then smirked. "It most certainly did. Mainly about women..That and I really hoped that was a real place in the world because I really wanted to visit." She said with a giggle. "When I left, I was so cut off from the rest of the world that I had no clue that women outside of my tribe lived the way they wanted, they arent required to be married, they can work and hold higher positions in society than men. It was a lot to adjust to at first. BUt now living here, the way I used to live seems like a cruel and barbaric way of living." She sighed.

Weston smiled as he listened to her talk. He couldn't help but to chuckle slightly at her comment about his book. "Damn, do I ever wish it was a real place, too," he agreed with a grin as he took the salmon off the heat and began to plate it. "I'll tell you what, though - if I ever find an underwater civilization with merfolk, you're the first person I'll take there," he joked. "In all seriousness though, I try to portray the women in my books the way I see them - strong, and unique, and capable. I'm glad to know that my book gave you crazy views about how women should be," he laughed.

Amira nodded along and then giggled when he said he'd take her to the underwater civilization of merfolk if he ever found one. "Deal. If I find it first, i'll take you too." She said with a smile and then nodded. "I would certainly hope you'd think we were capable beings. We birth children for gods sake." She said and then cringed a little at the thought. She had attended her cousins birthing of her first child and that was terrifying. But if a woman could do that and get up to take care of an infant damn near instantly, they sure as hell could do a whole lot of things. "It gave me such crazy ideas, made me want to go explore and see new things and places, and learn what the world had to offer. And now im here, with my own chocolate shop in a city that floats in the sky above the ocean. Its not quite as magical as an under water civilization...But its pretty close I think."

Weston plated the salad alongside the salmon while Amira talked. He lifted the two plates and turned towards her with a grin. "Well, hearing how much my book helped you has basically reaffirmed in my mind that all the hassle of publishing it was worth it," he said to her before carrying the plates to the table. "What would you like to drink?" he asked as he headed back to get forks and knives for them.

Amira watched him and then nodded. "It definitely was. Its one book I always recommend to people who are looking for something new to read." She said with a smile and then looked over at him. "I'll just do water please." She said and sat down when he came back and with the silverware and the drinks and when things were ready she took a bite and looked pretty pleasantly surprised. "You certainly can cook. This is great." She said once her bite was done.

Weston nodded as he poured drinks for them, getting them both water before returning to the table with the drinks and the silverware. "Perhaps I'll have to contact my old publisher about getting more copies printed and sent out here. I had no idea people were aware of me this far out," he said with a chuckle. It warmed his heart to hear how much Amira had loved his book and what an impact it had had on her life - and he deeply appreciated that, despite being a fan of his work, she hadn't turned into some sort of wild fangirl upon discovering who he was. When he saw the surprise on her face as she started to eat, he burst out laughing. "You watched me cook it and still thought I'd mess it up? You wound me," he teased.

Amira couldnt help but giggle. "My last boyfriend could cook and plate a meal that looked great, but then something was always really off about the flavors. Like, REALLY off. So yes, yes I am surprised." She said and shook her head. "You're the first man ive met who can actually cook, so you'll have to excuse my utter surprise." She said and took a bite of the salad, it was really good too and she sighed happily.

Weston laughed, shaking his head slightly. "I did lots of cooking classes while I was working on my first book," he told her, taking a quick sip of his water. "It was a nice way to help with the writer's block - it got my mind completely off the writing and immersed in something unrelated, and by the time I got back to the writing, I felt like I had a fresh start and a new perspective." He smiled, taking a bite of his food before glancing back up at her. "Oh, and there's also the fact that a man who can cook is always a hit with the ladies," he joked with a chuckle before turning back to his food.

Amira listened as she munched away at her food, about the cooking classes. "Oh I never took any classes, you start learning to cook at six where im from. You have to be well able to prepare meals for your future husband. Twenty years of cooking is pretty much what I owe any skill in the kitchen i have to." She said with a giggle and then smirked at him. "It is a hit, especially around here. All youd have to do is mention that you could cook and youd have like three girlfriends instantly." She said partially joking about the last part.

Weston chuckled slightly as he heard her words. "I was never taught to cook. It wasn't necessary," he said, but quickly shut up before saying anything further. He glanced up when she commented that cooking was a hit around here and he smirked. "Three girlfriends? Damn. I'd be doing well for myself," he said with a laugh. "Maybe it's time to renew the search for love," he said, though he knew fully well that he wouldn't.

Amira blinked. "It rarely is for men." She said. When he started talking about renewing the search for love she giggled a little bit. "Maybe you'll have better luck than I have. Dating is exhausting" She said with a little bit of a sigh before taking a sip of her water. She hdnt done super well dating wise previously, and was currently on a break from even attempting going on a single date again. Weston would be quite popular with the ladies though. So hed likely have no trouble finding a nice girl.

Weston smiled a bit, shaking his head when she commented that he might have better luck than her. "Somehow, I doubt it," he murmured before focusing on his food for a bit. He knew that relationships were a bad idea for him. He didn't trust people enough to have a functional relationship. Even his friendship with Amira was a tentative thing. He was quite fond of her, and he found they were getting along well, but he also knew that he wasn't about to turn around and tell her his life's story or anything like that.

Amira shook her head. "Not with that attitude mister." She teased though she understood the pessimistic attitude towards the whole deal. She munched away until she was done and then when he was too she collected the plates and took them to the sink and washed them up. She got them washed up and put them up to dry, swaying as she did. "So, did you have any place else in the city you really wanted to go to?" She asked, looking back at him.

Weston chuckled a bit at her comment, though he didn't really have much else to say about the matter. He could tell that she was only teasing, and he had a feeling that she understood where he was coming from, to a degree. She probably didn't quite have the same issues he had, though, but that was for the better. She was a great girl and would make some man very lucky one day. He was a broken and damaged man who probably couldn't do the same for some woman. He followed her to the sink as she took the dishes to wash them and he shrugged slightly. "I don't know," he replied. "Is there a library? I almost hope there isn't. I might lose track of time and never finish writing my next book," he laughed.

Amira nodded. "Unfortunately for you, there is a library." She said and giggled a little bit. "I go about once every couple of weeks and pick up a few books." She said and then dried her hands off. "There are at least three book stores in the city as well." She said and smiled up at him. "Your book needs wont go unfulfilled I promise."

Weston laughed when she said that there was, indeed, a library. "Well, damn," he said with a shake of his head. "There goes all my productivity. I should probably see how much writing I can get done before I let you show me the library," he laughed, gazing towards her. "And while I'm at it, I should write my old publisher and see about shipping some new copies of my book up here. I need to bless the local bookstores if there are three of them in town," he continued with a chuckle.

Amira smiled a little bit and nodded. "They certainly would benefit from having at least a few copies of your book here. This city, its different from everywhere else. The people are different here. It should sell a lot better, especially with me peddling it off on people like I do." She said and leaned against the counter.

Weston laughed softly, grinning over at her. "That explains why it was so well-read when you showed it to me. You said you'd read it twice and I couldn't figure out how reading a book twice could weather it so much," he teased with a grin. "And everyone you've had read it...they liked it?" he asked, genuinely curious. He hadn't had a lot of positive feedback where the book had been published, so hearing what the people here seemed to think of it was amazing to him.
